Little Brothers

Summary:

A set of mini-fics inspired by the song "Little Brothers" from Phineas and Ferb, because it felt fitting for the Odinsiblings.

Notes:

I was watching the episode with this song in it and couldn't help imagining Hela as Candace and Thor and Loki as Phineas and Ferb.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: Little Brother, I Remember When You First Came Home

Chapter Text

Little brother, I remember when you first came home.

The king and princess of Asgard sat outside the royal chambers, awaiting the birth of the newest heir. Odin was worriedly pacing back and forth.

"I know that you are worried, but Frigga is the goddess of motherhood. She will be alright." Hela spoke.

"Yes, but I fear that what happened with your mother could happen a second time." The king professed, both of them thinking about his lost first love. He sat down, and they were silent for a while except for the sounds of the queen's screams of pain and threats against Odin. After several hours, a cry rang out.

"My king, you have a healthy son." A healer poked her head out of the door. The aforementioned king leapt up and followed her into the room, leaving Hela outside. Are those people right? Will he replace me? She thought with a sigh. Her musings were interrupted by the same healer returning.

"My princess, you may enter now." The healer informed, and young Hela pushed open the doors to her parents' chambers. Her stepmother lay on the large bed, exhausted but smiling, and holding a small bundle in her arms. The other healers who had been tidying up finished what they were doing and left the room to give the royal family some time alone.

"Hela... come and meet your new little brother." Odin beckoned, and she walked up to Frigga's bedside. This is supposed to be a prince?  The... thing swaddled in a blanket was pudgy and pink, with cobalt blue eyes identical to the Allfather's and a full head of golden blonde curls inherited from the Allmother, the latter of which glowed in the early morning light.

"What is his name?" the princess asked. "His name is Thor... Thor Odinson." Frigga replied, gently stroking the baby's hair. Hela turned to her father, not impressed. "You told me he would fight by my side. How is he supposed to be able to do that?"

"He will, in time. You'll have to wait until he is older, for now he is but an infant." The princess looked down at Thor again, then looked away. Her stepmother immediately sensed that something wasn't right. "What's wrong, Hela?"

"I... I overheard three of the nobles saying that once the baby was born you wouldn't have any use for me anymore, and that Asgard would finally have a proper heir instead of ‘that girl’. Is that true?" She sniffled.

"Oh, dearheart... of course that's not true! Yes, Thor will require more attention since he is a baby, but that does not mean we'll stop loving you. Even though you're not mine by blood, you're still mine by heart." The queen reassured.

Odin gently tilted Hela's chin up. "Both of you are my children and heirs, and I will be having some choice words with those who spoke ill of their princess. Now, would you like to hold your brother?" "Yes." Frigga gently placed the baby into her arms. Thor looked up at her in wonder, then smiled and grabbed one of her fingers.

"I think he likes you." Her stepmother spoke. Just then, Hela felt a jolt and yelped, thankfully not dropping the infant prince. "He shocked me!" "What?" Both parents asked. Thor giggled and clapped his hands, making tiny sparks as he did so.

"Well, we know what he'll be the god of when he is older." Odin remarked. The baby then yawned and fell asleep in his sister's arms. Perhaps you won't be so bad after all. She thought.

Chapter 2: Then Came Another Little Brother Of Our Own

Chapter Text

Then came another little brother of our own.

Hela rested on a bed in the healers' wing, recovering from the war on Jotunheim which she'd returned from about an hour ago. Her injuries had been treated and she'd cleaned up a little, but not fully. Odin was in another part of the wing having his own injuries attended to. With a flurry of wings, Huginn and Muninn entered and landed on the bedposts. They squawked at her as if asking a question.

"Father is alive, he is being attended to by Eir." Hela informed them, and they squawked gratefully and flew off. With that, she lay down for a nap, but was only able to sleep for a short while before she was awakened by an einherjar in the doorway.

"My princess, your father and mother have summoned you to their chambers." Hela begrudgingly got up and walked down the hallways until she arrived and pushed open the doors. "Ah, Hela. There you are." Odin greeted, bandages obscuring the right half of his face.

"What have you summoned me for? Do we have to return to battle? I thought the war was over now." The princess inquired. "No, no, the war is over. We have someone we would like you to meet." The king guided her over to the bed where Frigga was sitting. In her arms was what appeared to be a bundle of cloth. They moved closer, and the queen pulled back part of the blanket to reveal a tiny baby. Oh norns, not again. One Thor is enough. Hela groaned in her mind. Speaking of which...

"Papa!" A blonde blur came tearing in, and Odin got down on his knees to greet him, sweeping the giggling boy up into his arms. "Should you not be in bed?" The king inquired with a raised eyebrow. "Yes..." Thor looked sheepish. "Missed you, papa." "I missed you too, my son." The little prince gasped when he noticed the bloody bandages where his father's eye had been, and he gently placed his hand on them. "Papa hurt?" "It will heal in time." Odin reassured his son. Hela walked up to join them.

" 'Ela! Missed you, sissy!" Thor chirped in delight upon seeing his sister. "I missed you as well, little brother." She replied. Just then, the baby in Frigga's arms made a little sound, wriggling in his blanket. "What that?" The prince turned his head at the noise. The three returned to Frigga's side and sat down on the bed.

"Hela, Thor, meet your new brother." She told them. He looks like me, well, except for his eyes. The princess thought, and she was right. The baby's downy hair was the same ebony black as her own and as Odin's had once been, but his eyes were a dazzling emerald green instead of blue. Her other brother looked at him in wonder, which soon turned to delight. "Brother? Brother!" Thor giggled and gently touched the baby's hand. "Loki. His name is Loki." Odin chuckled. Said infant innocently sucked his thumb.

After several minutes, a horrible smell began wafting through the room. Hela, who had been holding Loki in her arms, knew what it was from Thor and instinctively held him away from her body. "Ugh! I think he needs a change!" She grimaced, wrinkling her nose in disgust. "Give him here." Frigga reached to take him, knowing of her daughter's dislike of smelly diapers. "It's all right, my love, I can do it." Odin intercepted and took Loki into his arms.

"Are you sure? I recall you being wary of Thor's diapers when he was first born." The queen inquired. "I have fought in countless battles, I believe I can handle one soiled diaper." The king laid the baby on the changing table, removed the nasty one and cleaned him up. He reached for a clean one, but the infant chose that precise moment to open fire, scoring a direct hit on the Allfather's face. He tried to block the stream with his hands but to no avail as both his wife and daughter tried and failed to stifle giggles. Thor wasn't even trying to hide his laughter at his father's predicament. Even baby Loki was giggling madly.

"You think that's funny, do you? Not even a day old and a little troublemaker already." Odin remarked as he re-diapered the child and returned him to his wife. "Now I shall need a bath and my bandages changed." He turned to leave the room. "Husband, mind the-!"

WHAM!

Frigga tried to warn him, but the now one-eyed king slammed himself into the door frame, setting little Thor and baby Loki giggling again.  "...door frame." "Are you all right, Father?" Hela helped him up. "Yes. I will have to get used to this." he rubbed the bandaged spot where his eye had once been, only to have his hand swatted away by Frigga.

"Don't rub it, you have our youngest's urine on your face already and I will not be kissing it until it has been cleaned. Hela, could you please watch Loki for a moment whilst I return Thor to his bed?" "I will, Mother." The princess replied. Frigga smiled at her and placed the infant in her arms before turning to Thor, who was yawning, and went to pick him up off the bed. "Wait!" The little prince moved closer to his siblings and stroked Loki's hand again. "Night-night, Brother." Both women couldn’t help smiling at the display. After the two had left the tiny infant yawned and smacked his lips, snuggling into Hela’s arms. She softened, and placed him into the cradle next to her- no, their - parents’ bed.

I have a feeling you’re going to be a handful. Hopefully you won’t be as hyper as Thor when you’re older. Hela thought. Perhaps two brothers will be better than one.
