Love Me Like Music (And I'll Be Your Song)

Summary:

NRC Archives, May 25 1983, the Tonight Show Starring Orson Krennic, Guests; Carson Teva, Luke Skywalker
[Krennic]: You were in the biggest band in the world. Aren’t you worried you’re gonna flop by yourself? Would be pretty embarrassing.
[Skywalker]: Oh, well I am now.
[Audience Laughter]
[Krennic]: Look, I’ve gotta ask-
[Skywalker]: I’m sure you do.
[Krennic]: the Rebellion announces a tv special with footage of you recording what will be your last album, Millenium, followed by a concert special. But then next thing we know, the specials’ taken off tv listings, you play a random untelevised rooftop concert, album doesn’t even surface for a few more months and then you announce you’re broken up! Everyone’s dying to know- what the heck happened? None of you have said anything since!
[Skywalker]: None of the stories that people tell about us can change what really happened.
[Krennic]: So then.. what?
[Silence as the Camera focuses on Skywalker]
[Skywalker]: (Sighs) Do you really want to know?

3 Grammys, multi-multi platinum records, sold-out world tours, multiple #1s.
The Rebellion was the biggest band in the world, until it wasn’t.

Notes:

Firstly I would like to send a hearty thank you to the Stardads server for not only being some of the best people to walk the planet, but also enabling this. Secondly, thank you to my band of incredibly talented artists, Zee, Lovey and K. I cannot believe I got to work with you, and I admire you so much. Also, thank you to the incredibly talented EmilianaDarling for being clutch for like, everything. Finally, thank you to the mods for organising and being so generous with your time and support. (Also sorry about the word count.)
Also, I highly recommend listening to the playlists (there are a few, labeled for each chapter) for this fic, only because they are some of my favourite songs on the planet. It's linked here:

Chapter 1: 1983

Chapter Text

NRC Archives, May 25 1983, the Tonight Show Starring Orson Krennic, Guests; Carson Teva, Luke Skywalker

00:25:00

[Orson Krennic is seated behind a desk, with a chair and a couch beside it, in an open tv studio with an audience.]

[Theme Music Overlayed, Audience Applause]

[Krennic]: Welcome back to the show everyone, our next guest needs no introduction, he’s about to release his first solo album, Ossus , please welcome to the show, Luke Skywalker!

[Camera 2- a young blond man, dressed entirely in black walks out onto stage, waves, shakes Krennic’s hand, takes a seat.]

00:29:42

[Krennic]: Luke! Nice to have you back on the show, though it seems like you’re missing a couple things this time around.

[Skywalker]: (Laughs) It’s a pleasure to be back.

[Krennic]: I love the single, I mean, the title, Get Up. Genius.

[Skywalker]: Thank you.

[Krennic]: I yell it at my teenagers on weekends often enough, amirite?

[Camera pans to audience laughter, back to Skywalker]

[Krennic]: You had to be nervous, releasing it.

[Skywalker]: Well every artist-

[Krennic]: You were in the biggest band in the world-

[Audience applause]

[Krennic]: Aren’t you worried you’re gonna flop by yourself? Would be pretty embarrassing.

[Skywalker]: Oh, well I am now. And anyway, Wedge has done pretty well for himself, hasn’t he?

[Audience laughter]

[Krennic]: Speaking of, With You is still the biggest selling single of all time-

[Audience applause]

[Krennic]: You can’t seriously think you can top that?

[Skywalker]: I’m extremely proud of that record-  not looking to top it-

[Krennic]: Then why do your own music at all? Retire!

[Audience boos]

[Skywalker]: I don’t know how to sit still, I guess.

[Krennic]: Look, I’ve gotta ask-

[Skywalker]: I’m sure you do.

[Krennic]: there’s reports that the Rebellion’s doing a tv special with footage of you recording Millenium , followed by a concert special. But then next thing we know, the specials’ taken off tv listings, you play a random rooftop concert, album doesn’t surface for a few months and then you announce you’re broken up! And there’s rumours that you did tape your sessions- but no one’s ever seen the footage. Everyone’s dying to know- what the heck happened?

00:37:23

[Silence]

[Camera focuses on Skywalker]

[Skywalker]: (Sighs) Do you really want to know?
