Chapter 1: The reunion

Chapter Text

Ga Eul and Yi Jung are getting married. Not long after Jun Pyo left Korea, Yi Jung realized that his heart had been stolen by her. They started dating a month later. He proposed two years later. - You look beautiful, Ga eul. - Jan Di had tears in her eyes, her best friend getting married to the love of her life. The bride looked unreal, her face had matured over the years, and as she got older, she only got more graceful.

- I can't believe this is happening. - Ga Eul spoke with a shaky voice. Her hands attempted to smooth out the nonexistent creases in her dress. Jan Di smiled at her friend, but that smile didn't reach her eyes. She knew he was in the same building right now. After what happened almost three years ago, she still couldn't get over him. Jan Di glanced at her dear friend, who was dressed in her wedding gown, once more. She was wearing a white silk dress that hugged her waist snugly, the skirt as well as the sleeves flowing around her like water. Her hair was pinned up in a complicated updo. - When Yi Jung sees you, he's going to think that an angel fell from heaven.-

- If someone told me that you would be the first one of us to get married, I would have laughed in their face. - Woo Bin laughed as he helped Yi Jung put on his suit. - I always thought Jun Pyo would be the first one to go, your mother had a list of candidates ready as soon as he turned eighteen. - Ji Hoo laughed. - Hey, you know I can hear you. - Jun Pyo yelled at his friends but smiled right after. After all, they were right, his mother was quite disappointed in him, but she couldn't drag him to the altar, no matter how much she wanted him to marry some rich heiress.

He looked at F4 and thought how much they had changed physically over the years, boish faces became manly, they put on some muscle, and Ji Hoo got rid of that terrible red hair. - I thought love was a fairy tale before I met her. - Yi Jung smiled at his reflection while fixing his tie. He thought about the moment he proposed to her, how her eyes widened as he got down on one knee, and how her eyes lit up as he placed the ring on her finger. It was truly a work of art, with a diamond so big it looked almost comical on Ga Eul's slim hand.

After Yi Jung was ready, they all accompanied him to the altar before taking their seats in the first row. - Ga Eul is a good woman, take care of her. - Jun Pyo patted the groom's back before sitting in his chair. What wouldn't he give to be at his place, waiting for the only woman he had ever loved?

He knew that she had to be here, after all, her best friend was getting married. There was no chance she would miss this wedding. He was so lost in thought that he didn't notice when an empty seat next to him got taken. - Hey.- As soon as he heard that voice, he froze before looking at Jan Di. -Hi.- He quickly looked around and noticed that there were no empty seats left in the first row, they were forced to sit next to each other. - Fucking great. - He thought but couldn't resist the urge to sneak a few glances at her.

She wasn't a girl anymore, the person sitting next to him was a fully grown woman. She couldn't be called plain by anybody now, her features got sharper, her black hair grew down to her hips, and her bangs were gone. That was all he noticed before the piano started playing and everybody got up.

The ceremony was perfect, just as Ga Eul imagined. She wished for a fairy tale wedding with her flawless prince, and she got it. The crowd cheered as the groom kissed his bride and scooped her up bridal style. Jan Di couldn't help but feel sad, she was looking right at what she could have had it not been for her selfishness. She imagined herself standing at the altar with him. After all this time, he still made her heart beat like crazy, and he was sitting right next to her. ,,Hey" was the only word she had managed to say to him, too nervous to attempt to even start a conversation.

Jan Di didn't even notice when they changed locations, now she was looking at the first dance of the newlyweds. They looked at each other as if nobody else existed. Spinning around to the delicate sound of a violin. After a while, other couples started joining in. She stood next to one of the tables, a glass of champagne in her hand. She felt someone approaching her, Jun Pyo stood in front of her, neither of them saying anything. Suddenly, he sighed and extended his hand towards her. - May I have this dance? -

He couldn't take his eyes off her, and now she was right next to him, looking at him with her perfect eyes. He tried to appear composed but inside him, there was a whole hurricane of emotions. - Of course. - She responded and took his hand. When their fingers touched it felt surreal as if nothing had changed over the years. Jan Di allowed him to lead her toward the center of the dance floor.

They swayed to the gentle music. His hand was secured around her waist. He noticed she had lost some weight since the last time he met her. He wondered if it was accidental. He still remembered the angry hothead who loved stealing his meals out of spite. - It's funny, you know. - Jan Di said. - I thought you still hated me. When I sat next to you, I was afraid that you were going to ask someone to switch seats with you. - She looked up at him with a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes. - How could I ever hate you, you stupid woman? - He responded while tightening his hand around her as he felt her starting to tremble.

He fell for her the moment she kicked him in the face. She was different, temperamental, and full of flaws. Despite all of that, he still saw her as the most perfect woman in the world, but he couldn't force her to love him the way that he loved her. After he turned the lights off during the last race, he moved away from Korea, away from this mess, and away from her.

Being the heir of a great corporation, he didn't have much time to think about his high school sweetheart, but his feelings showed no signs of going away. After three years, he still thought of her every day. He still recalled her eyes shining as beautiful as the stars, her smile as bright as the sun itself. She made him feel human when he was with her, she made him feel as if he was breathing for the first time, he was truly alive. When she threw herself on him just to protect him from that chair, he wanted to kill the bastard who did that to her right there and right now. And if she asked him to track him down and kill every last one of them, he would. Unfortunately or fortunately he wasn't sure, she was too kind-hearted for that.

She didn't know that she was falling in love with him until she kissed another, cheating on Jun Pyo with Ji Hoo was the greatest mistake of her life. She still didn't know why she never told him that she had feelings for him. Jun Pyo didn't even expect her to say the words "I love you" He only wanted her to tell him that she liked him more than a friend, and she still couldn't do it.

She protected him from taking that chair on his back because she loved him, and she still does. She had wondered if he regretted their past relationship, months of foolish games, and if he was haunted by the things they shared that she would never forget.

She didn't notice when she had fallen for him, maybe it was the day he rescued her from bullies and treated her wounds in his house? Maybe it was the time when she got drunk and threw up all over his suit and he still took care of her? Or maybe it was the day he bought her the swimming goggles just because he knew she liked them?

It didn't matter when it happened because she was now sure that she was in love and that she ruined it all. He was willing to forgive her for cheating, he allowed those guys to beat him up just so they wouldn't harm her. Despite all of this, she couldn't say those three simple words. When he left Korea, she wanted to go after him and beg him to come back, but she respected his decision and made no attempts to contact him even when her heart burned with longing.

They spun around the room, both of them thinking about their past. - What happened to us, Jan Di? - He finally broke the silence. - My selfishness and taking you for granted. - They suddenly stopped mid-turn. Jun Pyo couldn't believe his ears. How did she manage to say it after three years of silence? How could she say it so casually?

They looked into each other's eyes for a few seconds before they noticed that they had attracted quite a bit of attention. Oh yes, great teenage lovers reunited as if those people don't have any better topics to focus on. - Come with me. - Jan Di took his hand and started leading him towards one of the closed doors. When they entered, she led him towards the sofa, she gazed at the fireplace as they sat down. The fire was the only source of light in the room, and it made her look ethereal in his eyes.

- Gu Jun Pyo I am truly sorry for what happened between us. - His breath quickened, and his hands gripped his thighs hard. - The day you left, I wanted to get on the next plane and go after you. - She stood up and walked toward the window to avoid his piercing gaze. - I hoped you would come back. I convinced myself that you needed some time and that if I leave you alone you'll return, but you never did. Those words you wanted to hear that night, I wish I had the courage to say them then. -

He could see her reflection in the window in front of her face, tears started falling from her eyes. - I love you, Jun Pyo. I took that blow for you because I didn't want to see you in pain. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if stood by while you allowed them to beat you up just to protect me. - She was now sobbing, her shoulders shaking, as she desperately tried to regain her composure. She turned towards him, her hands wiping her face. Her breath was quick, shaky, and irregular.

- I will go now. Have a great life, Gu Jun Pyo, you deserve it, I truly mean it. - She was about to reach the closed door when he quickly got up and pulled her into a hug. Her back was flush with his chest, he could feel her tensing up. She was still much shorter than him, he could rest his chin on the top of her head if he wanted, but instead, he wrapped his arms around her as if she would disappear in a second.

- How could you expect me to let you go after saying this? - he asked while holding her tightly. He could feel her shoulders still shaking, she turned her face to him, her makeup stained her cheeks black. - I never hated you, not for one single second. How could I when you were the only woman I have ever loved?- He whispered, how dare she even assume he felt anything different?

- All I did was hurt you, Jun Pyo, I can't put you through this again. - Her gaze never left his eyes, he always felt as if she could understand him without words, her eyes, they never lied even when her lips did. - You're saying this as if I had never screwed up. You took my heart almost four years ago and never gave it back. All I ever wanted was you. - After he said that, Jan Di released one last sob and turned fully towards him. She threw her arms around his neck, pulled him closer, and closed her eyes, he quickly did the same. They moved at the same time, he lowered his head as she stood on tiptoes he mentally cursed their ridiculous height difference at the moment, it was the only thing postponing their kiss right now.

When their lips met, he finally felt complete, Jan Di was back in his arms. Her lips moved first, kissing him deeply. It was their first kiss, but it didn't feel like it, they moved together as if they had done it a thousand times. She pulled him closer by his shirt, his hands started roaming around her back until he decided to finally settle them on her hips.

Jun Pyo always imagined their kisses would be soft and gentle, but reality turned out to be different. She was no longer a shy little girl, afraid of any form of intimacy like she used to. They both grew up and got tired of dancing around each other. She started walking him backward towards the sofa, their lips never leaving each other. She broke the kiss while pulling his bottom lip with her teeth, hard enough to hurt but not hard enough to draw blood. She pushed his blazer off him and opened up the first few buttons of his shirt, struggling with her still shaky hands.

Jun Pyo felt as if he was in some sort of fantasy, Jan Di kissed him while straddling his lap which was quite impressive considering the fact that she wore floor-length dress. She pulled away for a second and looked at him with eyes full of adoration, which he would have never expected from the girl he remembered.

He had one of his hands at the small of her back, and the other one caressed her cheek as he stared up at her lovingly, he could get used to that, holding her in his arms and kissing her senseless. She sighed as she felt his lips on her neck. That sound was like music to his ears, he had never heard anything more beautiful in his entire life. But that was nothing compared to the sound she made when he sucked on a particularly sensitive spot just below her ear.

Her hands reached for the zipper of her dress. That was when he started hesitating. - Wait. - Everything had happened quickly, too quickly. Gu Jun Pyo wanted her, he wanted her so much, that he thought he was going to explode as soon as she touched him. But he couldn't let this continue without being sure that she wouldn't regret it tomorrow. They were both drinking and emotions were clouding their minds. - I'm not sure if it's a good idea. -

Her eyes widened at his words, and her cheeks burned in shame. - I'm sorry. - She got off him and rested her head against his shoulder. - I thought you wanted this as much as I did. - Jun Pyo wanted to explain to her that that's not the point, he wanted her with every single cell of his body, but she was faster. - I haven't done this before. I tried dating some guys, but they couldn't compare. - She couldn't meet his gaze again and started chewing on her cheek instead.

- You stupid woman, I don't know how you managed to get into that medical school when you lack common sense. - He pushed her down on the sofa and climbed on top of her. Jan Di looked up at him with confusion visible on her face. What does he want from her, first he's stopping her now he's taking the lead. - Trust me, I want you much more than you can imagine. I'm just worried that you're not thinking clearly. I don't want you to do something you're going to regret. -

She tangled her hands in his hair and pulled him down for a deep kiss. - If you question my intelligence once again, I'm going to make you wait until marriage. - She hissed in between kisses. She could feel him smiling, he groaned as she pulled his hair again. It felt surreal, she had been haunting his dreams for the past three years. He was pleased to say that the real thing surpassed his imagination by miles. His mind couldn't wrap around the way her skin felt, the way her lips melted against him, and the sounds she made, and she was quite vocal.

Jan Di couldn't get enough of him, she felt his hands tracing her waist, not daring to go higher or lower. It seemed almost as if he was teasing her, so she decided to take the matter into her own hands. The room she had led them into turned out to have a bed. "Those rich people," she thought. - Gu Jun Pyo, get up and take me to bed. - She demanded and he immediately stood up and slipped on the carpet in an attempt to get there faster. She laughed as he tried to hide his embarrassment. - Oh, what was that? The great Gu Jun Pyo tripped over his own feet because of me. -

- That fucking carpet. - He muttered, but quickly got silent as she started walking backward towards the bed. She turned her back towards him and looked over her shoulder through her lashes. - Could you help me with this? - she asked in a teasing manner, he needn't be told twice. He got to her in just a few steps and slowly unzipped her dress. She reached up to slip the dress off when she suddenly winced in pain.

He could see her whole back tensing up. He grabbed her by the shoulder, but she only flinched away. - What's wrong? - He quickly asked, was she hurt? What happened? When did it happen? - Don't worry about it. - She responded after an agonizingly long second. - Are you kidding me? Tell me what's going on. -

- It's an old injury, Jun Pyo. I don't want to talk about it now. - Suddenly, they heard a knock on the door. - What do you want? - Jun Pyo shouted. - The bride is looking for Miss Geum Jan Di. - He sighed. Why couldn't she focus on her new husband instead of protecting her friends' virginity?

- Well, she prevented us from starting a family. - Jan Di chuckled as she brushed her fingers through her hair again. She was quite disappointed that they couldn't finish what they had started, but it didn't matter. She had waited for him for three years, she could handle a few more hours.

- The heir of the Shinhwa company got his high school ex-girlfriend pregnant. Tabloids and my mother would have a stroke.- They helped each other with fixing up their appearance, which screamed "I just made out with someone". Jun Pyo's hair has suffered the most since Jan Di's hands couldn't seem to leave his head alone.

When they got back to the main hall, Ga Eul, Ji Hoo, Yi Jung, and Woo Bin were all watching them with smug looks on their faces. - Where have you two been? You disappeared so suddenly? -
- We resolved some issues. - Jun Pyo said as he placed his hand on Jan Di's waist with the biggest smile known to men. - Oh, I have no doubts about that. - Yi Jung laughed as Jan Di looked at him with a confused expression. He only pointed at her neck while still laughing. She gasped and quickly covered her neck with her hand and turned to face Jun Pyo who looked a little too proud of himself for her taste.

She didn't expect him to leave marks. - Okay, you had your fun, now hand over my best friend, you can have her back tomorrow.- Ga Eul said before taking Jan Di's hand and walking away from F4. They could hear the boys congratulating Jun Pyo and asking for details. - You have to tell me everything. - Ga Eul said with excitement.
