Work Text:
The first thing Giyuu noticed when he woke up was the burning heat under his skin. The second thing was the heavy arms around him, holding him close, feeling so comforting yet so unbearable.
Giyuu groaned, attempting to unwrap himself to get away from the heat, noticing the pounding in his head and the soreness of his throat as well. The arms wrapped around him tighter and he was beginning to feel trapped.
“Kyo…” he mumbled, attempting to get out of the others grip again. Speaking sent Giyuu into a coughing fit, scratching his throat further while the pounding in his head grew.
The coughs and movement began to wake the other man up. Kyojurou stirred, nearly jolting awake as Giyuu coughed against his chest. He immediately loosened his arms and pulled away slightly to look Giyuu in the face. “Giyuu- are you okay?”
Giyuu coughed a few more times before settling, groaning in pain and annoyance. God, he hated Mondays. “Sick, I think…” he grumbled out, voice low in an attempt to keep himself from coughing.
Kyojurou set his hands against his forehead. They were warm, and honestly quite uncomfortable against his skin, which he reprimands himself for thinking but he can’t deny that it’s true. “Yeah, you’re burning up,” Kyojurou stated with a sigh, pulling away. “I’ll go get you some water and medicine.”
The moment Kyojurou left the room, Giyuu immediately felt emptier. He was hot, sweaty, and in pain and the lifeless walls surrounding him only made him feel that much worse. He grumbled and dug his face into the pillow, clumsily kicking the blankets off so they pooled at his legs. He still felt hot.
He must’ve zoned out because the next thing he knew Kyojurou was nudging him, saying something about medicine and sitting up that Giyuu was honestly too tired to comprehend. He felt hands nudging him to sit and he brushed them off, slowly bringing himself into a sitting position against the bed frame. He sighed and rubbed at his face in an attempt to clear his pain-riddled mind slightly.
He opened his eyes to Kyojurou holding out the water and medicine for him to take, an expectant expression on his face. Giyuu accepted the items and swiftly took the medicine, nearly chugging the water as he did so. His throat was parched .
“Woah, woah, slow down,” Kyojurou chuckled, grabbing the water from his hands. Giyuu glared, through quickly relented and wiped his mouth with his sleeve.
“Thank you,” he replied, thumbing the hem of his shirt with his fingers as he sighed. Now that he was further aware of himself, he jolted as he remembered something and moved to stand up. “Work, I need to-“
“No, sit back back down.” Kyojurou gently pushed at his chest, pressed him against the frame. Giyuu began to protest until the other interrupted. “I’ve already called in. You’re staying home today, whether you like it or not.”
“But-“
“No buts. You’re staying here and resting , which is something you need to do more often anyway.” Kyojurou removed his hand from Giyuu’s chest, now sitting down on the edge of the bed. Giyuu stared, apprehension clear in his expression, as he contemplated his options.
See, he could go to work, clearly miserable and in pain to anyone who spared a glance at him, and risk getting others sick. Or, he could stay home, rest in bed, and do nothing all day.
One option was certainly the more productive than the other, but it was looking less and less appealing the more he thought about it.
Sighing, Giyuu nodded. Kyojurou smiled and cradled his face, kissing him softly on the forehead before standing up. Giyuu didn’t think much of it as he watched the other leave the room, instead he threw his shirt off in attempts to cool off and laid back down on the mattress.
He drifted in and out of sleep for a while. The sounds of Kyojurou walking through the house keeping him from completely falling asleep. He heard the other ruffling through his wardrobe to seemingly get ready for work, but suddenly there was a dip in the bed. Giyuu rolled over, eyes half-lidded as he curiously looked at the other man who was most certainly not in his work clothes, and instead in a new set of pyjamas. Giyuu hummed in a questioning tone.
Kyojurou smiled down at the other man. “Did you really think I’d leave you here all by yourself? Someone’s gotta take care of you.” The tease was obvious and Giyuu scrunched his eyes and groaned. This elicited a chuckled from the other who then laid down next to Giyuu. Said man fully rolled over to look at the other, eyes tired but expectant nonetheless.
Kyojurou was silent, simply staring. Giyuu internally shrugged, not unused to this behaviour, thought slightly annoyed as this was the time he chose to do so, when he likely looked like he just rose from the dead.
When they first started dating, Kyojurou took it upon himself to take every chance he could to stare at Giyuu. He thought it was odd, and slightly unnerving because why is he doing that why is he looking at me so intensely , until he learned that this was just how Kyojurou was. When asked about it, he simple responded with how he liked to admire things he thought to be beautiful, and with a wink of all things.
The statement left Giyuu perplexed because how could he be beautiful? Last he checked he was average-looking at best, and to add to that he knew how unlikeable his personality was to others. But Kyojurou simply denied his rebuttals and Giyuu eventually grew to accept it.
But still, when he was sick ?
Giyuu took it upon himself to try and sleep again. Thinking about this was too much at the moment, and his headache was worsening at the strain. Kyojurou huffed and he felt hands run through his hair gently. Giyuu hummed contently and burrowed himself into the mattress.
Even under these circumstances, he supposed a day off wasn’t so bad.
