Work Text:

“I’m sorry.” Ortho's voice faded in and out as Idia scrambled to figure out how to fix him.

“No, no, no, yo-you are ok, Ortho. No need to be sorry. I=I’ll figure it out. I just need time.” Idia’s hands were shaking as he opened Ortho’s damaged chest panel.

His eyes scanned across the mangled chest piece before him. The hardware was fucked, almost completely crushed. With one hand going for the wiring, his other hand pulled up his tablet. He had to fix it, he had to make it better. Ortho was counting on him!

“Big brother.” Ortho’s voice called and Idia’s breathing was coming out heavy and quick.

Black spots were starting to appear in the corners of his eyes as panic set in.

“It’s ok! It’s ok, no big deal. EZ. I could do this blindfolded. You’ll be back in full health in no time. I just need to… no wait, I have to… I need to start…!” Idia muttered as he stared at the tablet.

The whole screen was red, a bright red warning bar scrolling across the top. Ortho’s body was too damaged. He would need time to rebuild it. If he could get Ortho to his lab, he could transfer-

His thought process was cut off when a shadow fell over him. He froze before slowly turning his head. His lower lip trembled in fear.

“P-Please. Just let me fix him.” Idia begged, curling over top of Ortho in desperation.

The other person sighed deeply.

“Idia, enough. You and I both know he cannot be fixed.” They stated.

Idia’s hands were shaking even harder.

“I can! I totally can fix him! This isn’t even that bad!” Idia said, feeling a bit of anger with his desperation.

“He’s a doll, Idia. Isn’t it time you stopped playing with dolls?” they asked sweetly.

“He’s NOT a doll! He’s my little brother! He’s-” Idia was cut off.

“No, Idia. You KILLED your little brother, remember?” they asked, their smile wide.

“B-Big brother.” Idia’s head spun around and…

There was so much blood.

Idia screamed as he jerked up straight in bed. In his panic, he tumbled off the mattress and onto the floor. Idia curled up on the floor, trembling and crying, trying to calm his own panic to no avail.

“Big brother? I heard you scream! Are you ok?” Ortho called from the doorway.

Idia scrambled to his feet. He raced over and dropped to his knees before Ortho, checking his chest plate with his trembling hands.

“Y-You’re ok. You’re ok. You’re not crushed beyond repair.” Idia muttered.

“Of course not! And even if I was, you would fix me! You always do!” Ortho said cheerfully.

Idia swallowed and wrapped his arms around Ortho in a hug. Ortho giggled and hugged him back as Idia trembled and cried.
