Work Text:
Ned turned from one side of the bed to the other, feeling a mix of emotions. It was the first night he was sleeping alone again after what happened in Santa Poco, a small town full of unexpected adventures.
The memories of their thrilling journey lingered in his mind as he lay there, surrounded by the familiar sights of his own room.
But for Ned, something was missing. It was Lucky, his companion during that unforgettable trip. They had grown close, sharing not only the excitement but also a deep connection that blossomed into a secret love. Their forbidden romance added an extra layer of complexity to their shared experiences.
As Ned lay awake, he couldn't help but reminisce about their stolen moments and stolen glances, hidden from the prying eyes of their friends. The memories brought a bittersweet smile to his face, knowing that their love was a secret treasure that only they held.
Feeling a sense of longing and nostalgia, Ned finally decided to get out of bed. He moved with utmost care, avoiding any noise that could disturb Dusty, who lay peacefully in the adjacent room.
He slowly turned the doorknob, cautious not to make any noise, and gently pushed the door open to reveal Lucky's room. Inside, Lucky was peacefully sleeping, unaware of Ned's presence.
Ned tiptoed towards Lucky's bed, trying not to disturb his slumber. He knelt down beside him and reached out to touch his shoulder, gently shaking him. "Lucky," Ned whispered softly, hoping to wake him up.
Lucky stirred in his sleep, his eyes fluttering open as he turned to face Ned.
Startled, he found himself face to face with Ned, causing his eyes to widen in surprise.
"What are you doing here?" Lucky asked, his voice filled with confusion.
"Calm down, please. Just give me a moment to explain," Ned pleaded, his voice filled with urgency.
"You shouldn't be here," Lucky insisted, his tone firm.
Ned's eyes filled with longing as he looked at Lucky. "Can I sleep with you?" he asked, his voice filled with vulnerability.
Lucky's eyebrows furrowed in disbelief. "Of course not," he replied, his voice tinged with a mix of confusion and disbelief.
Ned's heart sank at Lucky's response. "But I miss you so much. I can't sleep there without you," he confessed, his voice filled with longing and sadness.
Lucky let out a frustrated sigh, clearly displeased with the situation. However, as he glanced over at Ned, he noticed a profound sadness etched across his face, resembling that of a dejected puppy. It was a heart-wrenching sight that tugged at Lucky's emotions.
"Please," pleaded Ned, his voice filled with desperation and longing.
Lucky found himself unable to resist Ned's plea. A warm and affectionate smile slowly spread across Lucky's face as he reached out to lift the sheet, extending a welcoming invitation.
"Come," Lucky urged, his voice filled with genuine kindness and compassion.
Ned quickly formed a smile on his face, expressing his immense joy. It was as if he had transformed into a carefree child, brimming with happiness. With a sense of comfort and security, he rested his head on Lucky's chest, feeling the rhythmic rise and fall of his breath. His hand found solace on Lucky's chest, feeling the warmth and steady heartbeat beneath his touch. Lucky reciprocated this affection by gently stroking Ned's hair, creating a soothing and tender connection between them.
Ned felt an overwhelming sense of happiness and contentment, as if he was floating on cloud nine.
"Lucky," Ned called out to his companion, his voice filled with affection.
"Yes, buttercup," Lucky responded, using a term of endearment.
Ned took a deep breath and shared his innermost thoughts. "Do you know what I wish for every single day in this world?"
Curiosity piqued, Lucky asked, "What is it?"
Ned's expression turned serious as he spoke from the depths of his heart. "I wish that society would see us for who we truly are, without labeling us as anomalies. Love knows no boundaries, and it should never be limited by gender."
Lucky couldn't help but smile at Ned's genuine and compassionate nature. "You possess a sweetness that is rare in this world. Unfortunately, not everyone shares the same mindset," he whispered softly.
With a determined look, Ned lifted his head from resting on Lucky's chest and locked eyes with him. "But that won't deter me from being by your side. I will proudly stand by you and marry you," he declared with unwavering conviction.
Touched by Ned's words, Lucky reciprocated his feelings. "I love you," he confessed.
A smile spread across Ned's face as he replied, "And I love you too." He leaned in, their lips meeting in a tender kiss that expressed the depth of their love and devotion.
