Work Text:

The city of Hell's Kitchen was cloaked in shadows as the night descended, casting an eerie silence over the bustling metropolis. Frank Castle, aka the Punisher, moved with the precision and stealth of a well-honed predator. His footsteps were nearly silent as he ascended the fire escape of a decrepit building, finally emerging onto the rooftop. He had come here, like so many other nights, to find solace in the quiet and to survey the city that he had sworn to protect.

But this time, as he stepped onto the rooftop, he was met with a surprise. A woman, clad in a sleek black outfit, was already there, her eyes fixed on the horizon. Startled by her presence, Frank couldn't help but mutter, "And here I thought I was the only one who knew about this place."

The woman turned to face him, her eyes meeting Frank's with an air of confident nonchalance. "Punisher," she acknowledged, her voice carrying a hint of amusement. "Nice to finally meet you. You can call me Volpina."

Frank raised an eyebrow, his expression skeptical. "Volpina? What, you just escape from the circus?" He scoffed at the pseudonym.

Volpina merely shrugged, her lips curled into a sly smile.

Punisher wasn't one to engage in idle conversation, but curiosity got the better of him. He pointedly asked, "Why are you up here?"

Volpina's eyes locked onto his, and she gave him a knowing look. "Why are you?"

Frank's steely gaze bore into her, but he didn't answer her question. Instead, he countered, "I asked you first."

She chuckled dryly, her gaze returning to the cityscape. "This is the only place in Hell's Kitchen where I can go and people can't annoy me."

Frank couldn't help but crack a small grin. "You're not wrong," he admitted.

Volpina's smirk deepened as she leaned back. "Although that might change," she said, her gaze now fixated on Frank.

Punisher couldn't get a read on this woman. She was different from the typical criminals and threats he encountered, and he couldn't quite place her in any category. Her agility and presence suggested she wasn't an ordinary person.

Suddenly, without warning, Volpina stood. Frank's instincts kicked in, and he tensed, ready for anything. "Where are you going?" he demanded.

Volpina turned to face him, her confidence unwavering. "Some other rooftop, I guess." And with that, she smoothly darted to the edge of the rooftop, then with a graceful leap, she crossed the gap to an adjacent building. She vanished into the darkness, her agile silhouette barely visible against the cityscape, before fading completely from sight.

Frank watched her departure, his mind racing with questions and uncertainty. He had no idea what to make of this encounter. But as he stood alone on that rooftop, he couldn't help but think that her black-fur fox mask had actually looked rather sexy. It was a fleeting thought in a night full of mysteries, and the night had only just begun.

Notes:

Should I turn this into a series? Volpina is one of my OCs that I've had for a few years now, she's suave and mysterious. (note to self: If I do turn this into a series, name it "Volpina's Game: A Punishing Tale"!)
