Work Text:
The polyester clinging to her body was soaked, down to the tank top and shorts worn underneath. The feeling of fresh, hot blood coating her hands, running down her arms, splattered all over- it was far too familiar.
Shaking, she pushed forward, trudging back to the security office. Her office- yes, of course. Had to get cleaned up now- the body was dealt with, nobody would look for it, just a little water would wash away the deed-
But that wasn’t true, she knew. The child’s expression before dying would haunt her, as all the rest did.
Finally reaching her destination she allowed her body to fall, landing on her knees. She hardly felt the pain of the impact, tearing the mask from her face so she could breathe.
In, 1, 2, 3, out, 1, 2, 3. Repeat.
…still had to clean up.
She peeled off her gloves, revealing the scarred hands beneath, and reached back to find the zipper before wriggling out of the stupid thing- she really should’ve payed attention to that sewing tutorial, this suit was way too tight for her liking…
That didn’t matter now though. After getting the whole damn thing off she shoved it into a plastic bag and crammed it into her work bag, and she was about to throw on her work uniform when-
“Vanny, you’re going to have to towel off a bit, you know. Wouldn’t want to get that bloody.”
The humor in his voice made her sick. Regardless, she looked back at him.
The golden rabbit of her nightmares stood casually leaning against the doorframe, his bright eyes glowing cheerfully. His staticky voice echoed out once again.
“Oh, quick as a bunny now, dear. Your shift’s nearly over, don’t you know.”
“..right.”
taking a rag she’d stolen from the kitchen she wiped at the blood, scrubbing ‘till her skin burned a little from the rough texture. Of course, it would never be enough to get rid of the deed but at least she wouldn’t be in prison, or dead.
Under William’s eye she forced down the tears that threatened to pour over just minutes ago. She went about sanitizing the office with ease, and in twenty minutes it was as if nothing had changed at all- just a normal guard on a normal night. Easy.
“Hm-hm.. good show. Now let’s get home, yes? I’m sure you’re tired.”
Will smiled even wider than usual, offering a fuzzy hand. She decidedly ignored him, passing by into the hall without another glance his way.
“Aww, don’t give me that! I was trying to be nice, you know.”
“Oh, and you were awful nice to that kid,” she snapped.
“Oh, someone’s in a mood. Goodness, Vanny, you speak as if it wasn’t you holding the knife.”
he floated by her line of vision, arms folded behind his head as if he were laying down.
“I didn’t want to, you know that.” She grumbled, trudging towards the main area.
“But you diii~iiid!” He chuckled, now resting his arms on her head. “Don’t you remember, Van? You like the chase just as much as me!”
”do not.” She shook him off. Each comment of his was another guilty blade in her gut and he knew it.
Of course she didn’t want to. She didn’t want ANY of this!
but did she..?
No. She knew her own mind, even with him in it. Vanessa picked up her pace
…but of course William wasn’t done messing with her.
“Come on now, where are you rushing off to? Can’t outrun your sins, you know!” Another laugh escaped him.
“Or, perhaps… you don’t wanna be caught too close to where the kid went missing! running from the scene, are we, little criminal? Heh, guilt really getting to you now, eh?”
”Do you ever SHUT UP!?”
The fact he thought this was all funny made her more angry than anything. To think she ever thought he was her friend…
yelling seemed to take him by surprise though, but he didn’t let that show on his face.
“Oh, come on now, you know I don’t. Now can’t we get home without you fighting me on something?”
“You could stop instigating.”
“Vanny, behave already.”
His sillier tone of voice dropped. She’d gotten on his nerves. Great. Last time that happened he’d seized control of her body and fell down a staircase. Doglike, she fell silent.
“…good. Now let’s get going, alright? Don’t want to be the last one out the building, now. Not if you want to remain under the radar.”
“..fine.”
at least they were heading home now, she thought. She could escape him in sleep, at least.
