Chapter Text
Fili stopped and turned, his body tensing when hearing his little brother frantically yelling for him, he dropped the sticks and logs onto the ground and hurriedly broke out into a sprint, yelling for his brother in panic, wondering what could've possibly happened to cause such screaming from his little brother. Fili ran from the trees, a sword in hand and he ran to the camp as fast as he could, ready to fight whomever was responsible for making Kili react so frantically, he'd make them pay. Again, he stopped abruptly, lowering his sword and stared, his jaw dropped. The last thing he expected to see was an unconscious girl of men, in Kili's arms. He jumped back to action when hearing Kili choking down a terrified sob. Fili rushed to Kili, taking the girl from his brother, quietly muttering his reassurances to Kili, turning his attention to the girl of men. Miraculously, she was only unconscious and a little bloody.
"Wipe your eyes brother, you're okay." Fili told his little brother, in a calming tone of voice and Kili nodded his head, sniffling.
"Is she-- ... she's okay, right?"
"I do not see anything life threatening, so possibly." Fili shrugged. "Find the healing kit, we must make sure she doesn't have other injuries." Kili jumped into action, he rushed over to their horses and he loudly routed through all of the bags, hoping to find something remotely useful.
Fili looked down at the girl of men, tilting his head with intrigue. She's young, from what he could tell, men didn't age like the Dwarrow. By Dwarf standards, she was a child, but according to men standards he really could not tell... Fili hasn't many any men before, it was actually forbidden for them to mingle with men. The girl of men had long red hair and white skin, with a long and intimidating scar down the right side of her face, from above her eyebrow through her eye and down her cheek. She was rather beautiful, in spite of the injury to her face, and, if not for her round ears, he would've even thought she was an Elf. Fili apologised to the girl of men, cringing as he carefully removed her strange coat, to inspect her skin for any injuries. There were several old scars, which fueled rage which he didn't know he had, this girl has seen battles, but nothing which he would need tending too, only the little injuries to her head, which weren't too serious.
"Fi." Kili called, Fili turned and caught the healing kit that Kili tossed over to him, he got to work, being sure to be gentle with her, knowing men didn't take pain like the Dwarrow. The girl of men needed nothing more than healing creams and coverage. "She is okay? ... uhm, is she a she?"
Fili chuckled, shrugging. "Maybe? I can't really tell. She's practically hairless, so she isn't one of us. Elf, maybe?" Fili said, Kili pursed his lips and leaned over, very gently moving her hair out of the way to look at her ears and the brothers sagged, disappointed -- her ears weren't pointed. "A man, then." Fili decided.
"She could be a half-breed." Kili spoke up, still eyeing the young woman -- who they were assuming was a young woman.
Fili gave Kili a look, he didn't agree.
Dwarrow were identical in their psychical appearance and with their personalities. Their females, Dwarrowdam, were just as hard headed, as shapely, and could grow beards just as glorious. Meanwhile, Elves were the complete opposite to Dwarrow -- feminine and hairless. They wore pretty clothes, took great care in being seen as delicate and rather ethereal, but still very lethal. Orcs were vicious and monstrous, there was really no mistaking them. The Hobbits were little, with hairy feet, they're gentle folk, who spent a majority of their lives eating. No two men were alike, they varied exponentially -- you know a man by how they acted over how they looked. The world had plenty of other beings, but Fili hadn't met them all, and she definitely was not a Goblin, they're fatter and uglier and much sloppier than Orcs... Truly, they were a vomit-inducing sight to behold.
"I have her belongings." Kili informed, Fili looked up with interest but then frowned in confusion when seeing only one small bag, which looked no bigger than a coins purse. Kili laughed at his expression and said. "Safe to say whatever happened to her, she isnt out here of her own free will, she has no proper travelling equipment."
"We will help her." Fili decided for them, without a hint of hesitation, Kili agreed.
They were very honorable Dwarrow.
Despite the reputation of a Dwarf being a frightening and unkind being, there were none more respectful than them. Kili and Fili were raised to be brave and true, they were raised to be gentlemenly. Especially to females, of all communities -- Elf, Men; it did not matter because to the Dwarrow, females were as precious to them as the famous Arkenstone. Dwarrowdam's were unbelievably rare -- for every ten Dwarrow born, only three Dwarrowdam are born... so they treasure those born. To bring any harm to a female was seen as the worst crime a Dwarf can possibly commit -- Kili would have brought great shame to their family if he'd ignored this girl of men.
"Where do you suppose she came from?" Kili wondered, very confused. "There are no men villages near these parts... If she is of men. She's not dressed for a travel, I have never seen footwear like -- those before, and not one weapon on her... Not even a little knife." Fili looked down at the shoes the unconscious girl was wearing, they were oddly shaped with a long black tick sewed into its side, what purpose did they serve? Compared to the rest of her attire, they were completely different.
"I don't know Kili." Fili shrugged, covering the unconscious girl with his thick coat, to keep her warm without risk of burning her with their scorching campfire.
"And there's nothing in her bag."
Fili's head shot up towards Kili, frowning at him. "You looked inside her bag?!" Kili shrugged shyly and Fili took the tiny bag from his younger brother, disappointed.
"I thought she might have something to tell us who she is, or where she's from... it didn't. There's nothin' in there, not even one golden coin." Kili explained himself.
Who in Mahal was this girl?
The girl remained unconsciousness well into the night, the brothers made sure to keep her warm and set aside a portion of stew, for whenever she wakes up. They took turns keeping watch, ensuring their camp was protected from any threat that may appear from the darkness -- namely, those who caused the girl's injuries. They were still understandably confused with that... when Kili found her, the girl of men was already unconscious and bloody, he saw no sign of a struggle or evidence of others previously being there; no fires; no camps, blood trails -- or trails of any kind. It was as though the girl appeared out of nowhere... They hadn't any answers as to why or who. Fili didn't like it, the unknown was a very dangerous thing, especially in times like today. Perhaps she was a spy? Assassin? A usurper? Perhaps she's just an innocent girl in need of their help, they won't know until she wakes up. Fili would decide on what they would do when they got the chance to actually talk to her.
"Stop ogling her." Fili warned his brother, his eyes were closed and he was leaning against a large log as if he were asleep, but still he caught Kili. The younger shyly blushed and looked down at his bowl.
"I'm not ogling her." Kili muttered.
Fili turned and looked at his brother with a raised eyebrow at Kili and commented. "Kili, you're going to burn a whole into her head if you stare at her any harder." Kili's cheeks only flushed brighter, smiling into his bowl, now feeling quite embarrassed. Kili was still very young, only a few years over the age of adulthood for Dwarrow's, he hasn't quite gotten over his childhood awkwardness towards the fairer sex, Fili would usually laugh and tease him, but it was not the appropriate time to do so as she was a stranger, and unconscious; Fili helpfully reminded him of that small fact, making Kili look away in shame whilst he sheepishly apologised, and Kili was now doing his best to not look at the girl.
"Fili, we can't leave the girl out here." Kili suddenly said, after a few moments of silence between them. Fili turned.
"What's that?" Fili asked him.
"We can't leave her out here." Kili fiercely repeated, then said in a slight panic. "No matter who she is, it's very dangerous for anyone, nevermind a girl of men. She has nothing, she'll die." Fili took a moment to think, Kili turned his intense stare on him, trying to read his brothers expressions.
"We'll take her with us, to The Shire. Once we know she's okay." Fili decided and Kili let out a sigh of relief, nodding, then calm silence fell between the brothers, as they moved back into their original positions. Kili snuggled into his sleep bag while Fili leaned back against the log, keeping his ears out for any dangers, looking at their stars with a small content smile.
"Maybe she could help us reclaim--"
"--don't even finish that sentence, Kil!" Fili interrupted him, looking at Kili as though he'd lost his mind. Fili chastised his little brother. "Uncle would never allow it. This girl is a stranger to us, we can't just allow her into Erebor because you think she is pretty! We could endanger everyone." Kili pouted in response, rather childishly.
"But this Hobbit can come?" Kili argued.
Fili stared, then he sighed. "Go to sleep."
