Chapter Text
Jungkook is not having the best day.
Firstly, he woke up late and missed half of his first lecture, which turned out to be important because they had a quiz right after. He’s pretty sure he failed that. Secondly, since he was so late, he didn’t have time to get ready properly and now he looks like a homeless bum. This fact leads to the next reason why he wants this day to be over already.
“But hyung, there is such a long line and my legs hurt,” says Kim Taehyung as he bats his eyelashes at Namjoon.
“Oh no, did something happen?”
“He had a yoga class, the same as any other Wednesday morning.” Jimin answers instead while he chews on an apple. “Aren’t you a pro by now? How is it that you still get leg cramps—“
Taehyung gives Jimin a sharp look that clearly tells him to shut the hell up, and since Jungkook is sitting next to Jimin, he doesn’t miss it.
Namjoon, though, completely misses it.
“I still get cramps sometimes,” Taehyung says in an overly sweet voice that makes Jungkook want to cover his ears, and when he pouts, it seems to be the last straw for Namjoon. With a determined look, he stands up from the bench.
“You wanted strawberry milk, right?”
“Yes, please.” Taehyung answers, the perfect picture of docile and sweet.
“Alright, does anyone want something else? Jimin? Jungkookie?” Namjoon asks like the gentleman that he is. Jungkook barely suppresses a sigh.
When both Jimin and Jungkook shake their heads, Namjoon starts walking towards the cafeteria.
It’s a pretty day in April so they’re sitting outside for a short break before their next lecture. They brought some snacks with them, but out of nowhere Taehyung decided he wanted strawberry milk. Like, right now. Unlike Jungkook, Taehyung looks beautiful today. As much as it pains him to admit it, it’s probably impossible for Taehyung to look anything other than pretty.
But today it bothers Jungkook even more because he knows that he looks like shit. He also feels like shit because of that fucking quiz that literally ruined his mood for the day. And then, as if it wasn’t enough, he had to sit here for almost half an hour and watch Taehyung flirting with Namjoon in like, 20 different ways.
Namjoon, bless him, is oblivious as fuck, and Jungkook starts to think that the only way to make the man realize he’s being hit on is to sit on his goddamn lap and give him a lap dance.
Luckily, Taehyung isn’t bold enough to do that, and honestly, he doesn’t seem that bothered by Namjoon’s lack of reaction. If anything, he looks pleased as fuck when he turns his eyes to Jungkook.
And the little shit has the audacity to smirk.
God, Jungkook hates him so much.
Unfortunately, his friends love him.
Taehyung transferred here at the beginning of the semester and somehow managed to charm Hoseok on his very first day. Naturally, Hoseok immediately introduced his new found friend to Jimin and Namjoon, and by the time he met Jungkook, Taehyung had them all completely fascinated.
Don’t get him wrong - he gets the appeal, but it’s a little hard to befriend Taehyung when he has the potential to steal the heart of the guy Jungkook has been crushing on for years.
Kim Namjoon.
Aka, mister clueless himself.
Namjoon is just a year older than Jungkook and they attended the same highschool before enrolling in the same college.
Basically, they are childhood friends, only that Jungkook started having not-so-friendly feelings for the guy years ago. Unfortunately, he never had the courage to admit them. It’s just that Namjoon never seemed interested and Jungkook didn’t want to ruin their friendship. He never lost hope, though, that maybe things will change someday.
Enter Kim Taehyung, who quickly became the talk of campus.
Gorgeous, sweet, funny, and overall lovable. Practically the perfect omega. He can have anyone, and yet, for some reason he chooses to constantly flirt with his Namjoon.
Jungkook scowls while Taehyung’s smirk gets wider. The little devil is enjoying his pain.
Argh, he can’t stand him.
"Okay, stop with the staring contest, I’m still here.” Jimin says before he snaps his fingers in front of Jungkook’s face.
“I wasn’t staring at him.” Jungkook huffs.
“Right, you were just staring at the beautiful air next to me.” Taehyung deadpans.
Jimin snorts but tries to cover it when Jungkook turns his glare to him.
“You didn’t have to make Namjoon buy shit for you.”
Taehyung makes his eyes appear large and innocent before he asks with a pout, “Me? I would never force him to do anything.”
Jungkook simply raises an eyebrow.
Taehyung’s pout turns into a sneer. “If you want him to buy things for you, you can just ask. It’s not my fault you’re a coward.”
Jungkook gasps. “What did you call me?!”
“You heard me!”
“At least— at least I’m not taking advantage of other people’s kindness!”
“Excuse me?!”
“You—“
“Is everything alright?” Namjoon asks and they both immediately shut up.
“No—“
“It’s nothing—“
“Everything is fine,” they answer together. Next to them, Jimin coughs to cover up a laugh.
Namjoon still seems confused while he stands in front of their table holding a small bag that probably contains Taehyung’s strawberry milk.
"Yay!” Taehyung cheers as he reaches out for the drink, “That was fast.”
“There wasn’t a line when I got there.”
“Lucky,” Taehyung says with a pleased smile while Namjoon sits down next to him.
“Here, Kook, I got this too.”
“Oh?”
Jungkook stares at the small bottle of banana milk in Namjoon’s hand and is once again reminded of why he likes the guy so much.
“But I didn’t ask you to—“
“It’s a gift, you seemed upset earlier.”
Namjoon blesses him with a dimpled smile and for a few seconds everything is alright in the world - the birds are chirping, the sun in bright, the air is clean—
But then he sees Taehyung scowling at him from the corner of his eye and feels irritated all over again.
While Namjoon and Jimin begin to talk about some show they’ve been watching on Netflix, Jungkook and Taehyung continue to glare at each other in a silent contest to see who will cave in first.
Jungkook really hates him.
❥❥❥❥❥❥❥❥❥❥❥
Jungkook isn’t a petty person, and usually, he doesn’t hold grudges. He never made ‘enemies’ and always got along with pretty much everyone.
But something about Kim Taehyung pissed him off from the get go.
He’s not too proud to admit that it had something to do with jealousy. From the moment he saw Taehyung walking through the campus hallways with a bright smile on his face, easily capturing everyone’s attention, he felt a little envious.
It’s not that Jungkook is not a friendly guy, but he’s just not overly outgoing, and doubts he ever managed to charm anyone with a simple smile or a laugh.
And the thing is that it’s what people expect of him, or from omegas in general. They are expected to be kind and sweet, beauty doesn’t hurt either, and while Jungkook does consider himself to be fairly handsome, he’s not what most people would expect an omega to be.
He likes to work out so he’s on the muscular side, and since his favorite color is black, usually you'd find him wearing that color, which is also a contrast to the cute and sweet image that so many alphas adore.
Over the years he learned to accept himself as he is, but that doesn’t mean that he’s not self conscious about it on occasion.
Kim Taehyung awakens all of his self doubts just by existing - he’s the omega that everyone wants. And Jungkook never had a close omega friend so it all feels new to him. Even Taehyung’s sweet floral scent manages to irritate him for some reason.
Taehyung wasn’t mean to him at first, he was actually nice, the same way he was with everyone else. But the slight irritation Jungkook felt at first escalated when he saw the way Namjoon treated Taehyung. He was gentle and kind, he carried his things for him and stared at him more than necessary. It made him mad.
Jimin later told him that he was exaggerating but Jungkook saw what he saw. At first Taehyung didn’t deliberately encourage it, he might have been a little flirty but that’s how he acted with almost everyone else. But then his attitude started to change, along with the way he acted around Jungkook.
Taehyung probably realized at some point that Jungkook didn’t like him all that much (it wasn’t that hard to tell), and so he started treating him the same way.
Jungkook sometimes wonders if he is the first person Taehyung hasn’t managed to charm. If that's the case then it probably bothers him to no end.
Since they have mutual friends, they never had an actual big fight. Snarky comments and deadly glares are enough, but Jungkook still feels the need to strangle him occasionally, especially when he’s overdoing it with the sweet-and-innocent-omega act.
Right now would be a good example.
Taehyung is sitting in the campus’ cafeteria surrounded by a bunch of guys from their college’s basketball team. Hoseok is sitting next to him, but he’s looking bored out of his mind and has his eyes stuck on his phone.
The guys don’t care about him anyway, they are much more focused on Taehyung, who’s trying to listen to a story one of them is telling him. He’s doing the ‘act’ again (as Jungkook calls it) where he’s being all sweet and welcoming, and Jungkook can’t help but roll his eyes while he passes them by on his way to buy something to drink.
Hoseok texted him earlier and told him to come and hang out in the cafeteria before the next lecture. He should have known Taehyung would be here too, they are a package deal these days.
While Jungkook waits in line, his eyes stray again to the other omega and his admires. Taehyung is still smiling brightly and acts like everything is cool, but Jungkook can tell that he’s starting to feel a little uncomfortable. Maybe it’s because Jungkook has been watching him for weeks that he’s now able to detect the small cracks in his perfect mask. Taehyung’s smile is a bit strained and Jungkook sees the way he’s fidgeting a little in his seat, as if he’s trying to create more space between him and the jock on his other side.
He isn’t saying anything but he clearly wants them to back off.
Jungkook grimaces at the scene, but then it’s his turn in line and he has to look away so he can order. He buys banana milk (per usual) and a large chocolate chip cookie because he needs some sugar to get him through the rest of the day. But before he pays, he hesitates and he asks for something else.
When he’s done, he heads over to the table and clears his throat before he says, “that’s my seat.”
The alpha who’s sitting in front of Taehyung is in the middle of telling him all about his family beach house and how he has to visit there one day, but forced to stop when Jungkook interrupts his story time. He turns his head and huffs at him like he’s the most annoying insect ever.
Jungkook simply raises an eyebrow at him. He is well known for not taking bullshit from anyone.
“Fine, we need to go to practice anyway.” The alpha grumbles as he slowly gets up.
When Taehyung smiles brightly at him, the jock almost loses his balance. Jungkook bites his lip to hide his smile. So embarrassing. Taehyung is happy that they are finally going to leave him alone, but they obviously don’t realize it.
"Have a good practice.” Taehyung tells them sweetly and they all look a little star struck before they walk away, murmuring their thanks and how Taehyung has to come to their upcoming game.
Taehyung nods and waves at them until they are finally out of sight.
Then, his smile falls. Not completely, but he definitely seems less excited than before when he leans his head on his hand and sighs.
“Useless alpha,” Jungkook says as he smacks Hoseok’s head, finally making him look up from his phone.
“What?” Asks the alpha in question.
Jungkook shakes his head at him. Hoseok is almost as oblivious as Namjoon, so he clearly hasn’t realized that Taehyung needed rescue. When he sees the other omega looking at him, he’s reminded of something else.
"Here,” he says before he places a small bottle of strawberry milk in front of Taehyung, who stares at it like it’s poison.
Jungkook doesn’t say anything else after that and proceeds to open his own bottle and take a sip. He’s being nonchalant about it, trying not to make it a big deal. It's not. It's just his good deed for the day, nothing too meaningful.
But then he sees Taehyung staring at him with a much softer expression than the one he’s used to seeing, and it immediately makes him feel a little bothered.
Taehyung shouldn’t look at him like that, it’s odd.
To cover up his own unease, he grimaces and frowns at the other man, clearly showing his displeasure.
It doesn’t take long for Taehyung to change his own expression to something less soft and more annoyed. He sticks his tongue at him before he reaches out for the drink, not even bothering to thank him.
Now that’s more like it.
