Chapter 1: Betrayal

Chapter Text

His whole body ached in pain from this month’s rough transformation as Remus stormed through the castle trying and failing to calm himself. The wolf wouldn't quiet down. His mind was whirling, unable to understand how the events of the last day could have happened. He couldn’t believe that Sirius would betray his secret in such a way and use him like this. He could have killed Snape and he wouldn’t have even been aware enough of it to stop himself.

He probably would have eaten him - Remus shuddered at the thought. What could have happened made him ill just imagining it. This stomach roiled and he dry heaved as he leaned against the wall. The images of what didn't happen passed through his thoughts and Remus could not leash them.

How could he ever forgive Sirius for this? His heart felt like it was breaking, he’d trusted Sirius with everything about himself. And Sirius had used that information to use Remus like a tool for one of his petty vengeances.

Sirius' pathetic little protestations of being sorry hadn’t given Remus any kind of reassurance, there was not a hint of remorse for what nearly happened to Snape. Sirius was only sorry that Remus was angry, Sirius wasn’t sorry that he’d nearly gotten another student killed using Remus as the murder weapon. He wasn't sorry that he'd nearly made Remus into a murderer. It would have been so easy, the beast within would have slain Snape without a single qualm.

Remus found an unused classroom on the seventh floor and slammed the door behind him, screaming into the void without even bothering to cast a silencing charm first. He wished he had some fire whiskey, but he’d be just as likely to smash the bottle against the wall as he would be to drink it. The room smelled vaguely of sex to his wolfish senses, but Remus was just desperate for a moment of peace and no one was here now.

He dropped against the wall, wrapping his arms around his knees and started to cry, great wracking sobs that shook his body.
