Chapter Text
July 19, 1996, 05.45.
"Mari, wake up. It's time for school soon." Mari gently opened her eyes, looking for a moment at Sunny standing next to her already dressed in his school uniform - a black vest with pale yellow pants. UFO was still wandering around the room and staring at every angle, looking for something new to toy with. PIANO on the other side was reading a History book as his owner was still dwelled in delusion. Mari, still dressed in her purple pajamas, gets up and puts on her slippers, heading for the bathroom immediately; earlier she told Sunny that he could go downstairs first, no need to wait.
Sunny was Mari's little brother, mostly quiet and a shy child. At least if he was quiet, then he wouldn't cause a lot of trouble; even less. He needed to whisper to the necessary person if he wanted to have a whispered conversation because his voice wasn't as loud as Kel's -at first his friend could talk. Sunny's days were spent in a school-home cycle; with his family and close friends. So, he just went with the flow when they went out together.
Furthermore, as Sunny's sister, Mari has the best support for someone who sometimes feels their life is off-color. Her gifts can be anything from wise advice to a warm hug to ease the chaos of the heart. In addition, she is perfect if you check what her talents are; math, physics, biology, chemistry, literature, and almost any subject she can eat. It seemed like the family that took care of her -even the youngest- had a really clear goal as a middle-class family.
Sunny took a few steps down and turned right into the kitchen, where her mother was still preparing toast with jam, and her father was organizing the washed dinner plates. "Sunny? Thank goodness you've come downstairs. Can you organize those plates? I'll have breakfast ready in a minute." Sunny saw three clean plates stacked on the table, arranged according to the family's seating position. After that, Sunny glanced at the latest newspaper: Total Collapse, CEO Arrested for Graft.
Inspect that one perception, Mari had already changed into her schoolgirl outfit: a red ribbon on the collar of a white shirt, a black vest, and a brown skirt. After applying makeup with a shiny object around her neck, Mari was ready to go downstairs with PIANO. Sunny seemed to have forgotten his backpack, so Mari carried it along with her own.
"I wonder, are Mom and Dad waiting right now?" Mari asked PIANO who was a KI-pet -they were coming downstairs and were about to put their bags in the living room. In the end, PIANO thought that the question was obvious; then why should she ask it again? She thought. Mari assumed that PIANO didn't say anything. Human footsteps could be heard, approaching the living room and putting down two backpacks, turning into the kitchen, and all the normal family members were already gathered on the dining table; with an ideal family-style atmosphere. UFO met up with his friend again. Now they both wanted to look at the kitchen window.
"Hi Mari, how come you woke up late?" the opening began with her mother.
"Staying up late for tomorrow's test."
"Didn't you study yesterday afternoon?"
"Studying..." Mari rather listlessly answered that. Somewhat disappointed. Sunny knew that when Mari reflexively made a doodle, it was quite large.
Trigonometry and statistics had tricked Mari into wanting to draw, so she doodled on the plain paper that became the scenery. Hero's busyness uncovered his crush's actions without a chance for Hero to see it, so the rest of the problems he could answer were abandoned. Sunny and Mari's gazes collided.
"Sunny? How was the homework?" His father called out.
"I did." Sunny took another bite of her toast.
"Good." a sip of coffee sounded.
"Mari, make sure you have a regular schedule. Sunny does well on his homework because he's focused, so you should go to bed at 9 pm. You don't stop studying from 7 to 3 o'clock. You'll be sleepy in class."
"Okay, Dad." Mari wished she could continue her task.
"By the way, you're wearing a new necklace, Mari?" her father began to change the topic, pointing at the new necklace Mari was wearing. Silver threads and purple crystals made a beautiful pair of colors. "It was given to me by a robot, its head is like our home TV." Mari placed the jewelry on the table as she explained, all sides could see the object. "What was the robot's name?" asked Sunny's mother. Mari starts to glanced at the upper left, remembering what happened on the way to Hero's house.
Mari was on her way to do school homework, the reason Hero's house was chosen as the conditions that could be used for studying; Hero's house could guarantee peace because the family of "the boy who she liked to flirt" rarely involved in conflict, plus she and the boy had promised each other that they would study together. At this time, Mari saw the robot - as described earlier - standing near the fence of Hero's house.
"Excuse me, who are you?" Mari asked.
"No need for the name."
"Ah... what is that?" The robot glanced at the necklace she was holding.
"Do you want it?" the robot offered.
"May I?" the answer was in the gift.
"I thanked him, he also seemed reluctant to say his name," Mari said, ending the memory of yesterday afternoon. Mari's family let out a long, subtle ooh, and that was before the UFO swooped in to pick up the shiny object; before it went in and "operated" on the threads, Sunny picked up Mari's necklace and stared at his pet. The UFO let out a short, soft wave of sound; implying guilt for breaking things so many times. PIANO could only watch the UFO's behavior. The UFO's surroundings laughed at its actions. Only PIANO was more interested in Mari's necklace. This thing is interesting.
Breakfast was over.
"Ok, mom. We're going to school first. Bye." Mari pushed back her chair while waving her hand and walked out, followed by Sunny; preparing to go to school.
