Chapter Text
They were different from other kids; of course they were. But what made them so different was their connection to each other and to the power. Maybe it was because they were twins- that could be it. As soon as they were able to talk, their parents found out they could read each other’s minds; they could practically speak to each other without actually saying anything. Talk about twin telepathy. It was also revealed that the twins had a great connection to their fire power; that was a hectic day. But now being old enough, they were being trained in how to control their ‘abilities’- as their mother put it.
The twins were out on the porch, watching their father and older sister. Jayden looked fascinated with their father’s swordsmanship while Kendall was busy playing with rocks.
It’d be nice if we could play with swords. Jayden thought while continuing to watch Lauren and their father. He only diverted his gaze from them when he heard his twin snort.
Yeah, then I can prove that I can beat you with it. Kendall responded, discarding his rocks to watch the training session in front of them.
The older of the two glared, also returning his attention to the training session. Yeah, right. Jayden responded, letting out an audible scoff, which earned him a playful shove back. Giggles could be heard while the twins playfully fought with each other.
The eldest of the Shiba siblings looked over at her little brothers. A part of her wanted to ignore her training and just play with them. But she shook it away, continuing with her lessons. She would do this- had to do this. Lauren didn’t care if it killed her, as long as her little brothers were safe.
The woman wanted to cry. “I can’t- I can’t separate them.”
“Jennifer, we have to-”
“We’re already losing you, it’ll kill them to be separated.” Jennifer cried, but quickly wiped her tears away. “I can’t do it.”
“I know this is hard, my love, but it has to be done. Lauren has to master the symbol-”
The auburn haired woman shook her head, “Please! She’s too young for this! And what of the twins? They haven’t learned to control their power.”
“Jayden will stay here with Ji and take Lauren’s place until she’s ready. You and Kendall will go into hiding.”
“They’re just kids…” Jennifer said weakly, quickly making her way down the halls of their home. How she would explain this to her children, she didn’t know.
The day they had been dreading had arrived. With tears in her eyes, the matriarch had to hold back her twin boys while they watched their sister being taken away. “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.” She whispered, hugging her boys close to her. Jennifer held on tighter to Jayden, knowing she wouldn’t see him for a long time after tonight.
“Jennifer.” Ji spoke, making the three look at them. It took a lot of willpower not to break when the man took a look at the twin boys he had grown to love as his own. “It’s time.”
“Time?” “For what?” The boys asked, looking between both adults.
Jennifer nodded, giving Jayden a tight hug once again, hating that she couldn’t prevent the pain her children were feeling. “We’ll see you soon, sweetheart.” She whispered, kissing the top of Jayden’s head. “Come on, Kendall.” The woman said softly, grabbing the boy’s hand.
“Mommy? Wha- Why? Where are you going?” Jayden asked, chasing after his mother and twin.
Kendall kept trying to pull his mother back but to no avail. “Mommy! What about Jay?” The little blonde asked.
“Kendall, we have to go.”
The twins couldn’t understand what was going on. They had just seen Lauren being taken away and now they were being ripped apart too. “Mommy, please!” Both boys pleaded, tears streaming down their faces. Jennifer had to restrain herself from taking both boys and hated herself for giving into her husband’s last wish. This would be her greatest regret.
“Kendall, we have to go.” The woman repeated as she helped Kendall onto her horse before climbing on herself.
“Please! Don’t leave me here!” Jayden cried and tried to run, but was held back. “No, let me go!”
“Jay!” Kendall yelled, reaching out for his brother.
“Kenny!” Jayden yelled back. He could only cry, watching as his mother left him behind to become something he didn’t want.
