Chapter Text
Vox was a decently powerful overlord. Him and the Vees ruled pentagram city because of their strong media influence. Due to their power they were all overlords. Unfortunately this meant that they had to attend the overlord meetings that were annoyingly frequent. Valentino used to go to represent them for a little but but he very obviously wasn’t the best person to represent them and as Vox was the leader he was forced to go.
Vox was pissed that he had to go. He had so much more important things to do and he had to waste time listening to random overlords he couldn’t care less about talk and talk. He entered the elevator to go up and payed no attention to the other overlord that got in with him. It seemed like the other did take notice of him tho, what was his problem? Much to Voxes surprise the other overlord spoke.
“I don’t mean to be disrespectful but, who are you?” said the other with semi-menacing look and at the same time a creepy smile that seemed glued to his face.
“My name is Vox and I’m here to represent the Vees.” As Vox said this the elevator was already upstairs, it was pretty fast.
“Well it was a pleasure to meet you.” Said the other overlord very politely.
Vox walked alongside him, “What’s your name?” Vox wasn’t too familiar with all the overlords yet.
“My name is Alastor, perhaps you know me from my radio broadcast?”
Oh shit that’s who he was. Of course Vox knew who Alastor was, even though he didn’t care to know about the other overlords and thought they were annoying, he knew about Alastor because of how much influence his radio broadcast was and he was pretty fucking powerful.
“I think I’ve heard your broadcast once or twice.”
They both walked into the meeting room and since it didn’t seem to matter where they sat and Vox knew nobody there he decided to sit next to Alastor.
Carmilla and Zestial started the meeting as usual and Vox informed Carmilla that from now on he would be there representing the Vees. Throughout the meeting Vox didn’t really care to listen to what Carmilla would talk about since it wasn’t anything that mattered to him. All he did was observe the overlords around him to get a better sense of the room. The only one that stood out to him was another Overlord sitting next to Alastor. The only reason he took notice of her was because she had the same creepy smile as Alastor. Unlike Alastor sometimes this smile went away, Alastor’s smile was glued to his face.
Once the meeting was over Vox quickly got up as he didn’t want to spend any more time here than he had to.
“In a hurry I see?” Alastor took notice that Vox was ready to run out of there.
“Yes I have some important things to do.” Vox seemed a bit annoyed with Alastor’s questioning.
“Well that’s a shame.” The other said smoothly while swiftly getting up and he began walking away. Was he gonna ask him to go someplace with him after? That’s the first thing that came to Voxes mind and for some reason he did not want to lose this opportunity.
“Well I’m not actually that busy I just don’t want to lose a second of the day.” Vox said as he was running up to him, even though he was extremely busy he thought it would be nice to befriend another overlord to potentially get more power down the road.
“Well it’s good you have some free time on your hands.” Said the other and continued walking away.
Did Vox misread the situation? Well he had to act quickly, he could easily wait for the next overlord meeting so he wouldn’t look so desperate but Vox wasn’t a man that would wait around when they could act in the moment.
“Do you also have some free time right now?” Vox was walking alongside Alastor so that he could make sure they could keep talking.
Alastor paused and thought for a second before saying, “Yes I suppose I am not busy right now.”
Vox seized this opportunity quickly. “So would you like to maybe grab a coffee?”
Alastor’s eye slightly twitched as Vox said this. Alastor couldn’t believe that some weak new overlord was acting so friendly with him and he did not like it but Vox took no notice of this.
“Sure. Coffee is always nice.”
Vox led Alastor to a coffee shop that Vox always sent his assistants to get his coffee from since it was very hard to find any good coffee in hell and this place was rather nice and close to the Vees tower. It was a small not too popular shop that Vox was sure was the only good one in the entirety of hell. They sat in a booth in a corner while other demons in there stared at them since they were both overlords. Alastor hated the place but he was polite so he stayed.
“What would you like?” the waitress asked them, she was basically staring at Alastor as if a spell was on her. Vox couldn’t blame her since Alastor was seen as a very powerful overlord and was intimidating to most.
Alastor acted like he did not notice she was gawking at him and said, “A black coffee would be nice.”
Vox wasn’t too fond of the bitterness of black coffee but it came as no surprise that Alastor liked it. “I’ll have a Café au lait.” Vox would usually go for something a bit sweeter but he would seem kind of like an idiot if he ordered anything really sweet after Alastor ordered a black coffee.
They got their coffee extremely quickly since the staff was pretty scared of what would happen to them if it didn’t come out quickly.
“So, why did you invite me for coffee? If you want to strike a deal with me I must tell you it won’t come cheap.” Alastor said this with his grin creepily extending to each corner of his face.
It just hit Vox that he went up to an overlord he barely knew and acted like they were best friends. Of course Alastor suspected he wanted something.
“I don’t need anything I just thought it would be nice…” … why did he say that? Now Vox sounded like a big idiot. Alastor thought so too.
“Well, then I have better things to attend to.” Alastor said as he got up. He adjusted his coat and walked out. He was pretty annoyed that Vox wasted his time like that.
Vox was left there dumbfounded. He didn’t really expect Alastor to just leave him there sitting alone like an idiot. Weirdly enough though Vox wasn’t mad at all, this actually made him admire Alastor a little bit. He must be an extremely busy man to not even be able to waste a second of his time. That was all Vox thought of and he admired that commitment to work. Vox quickly payed and with this new aspiration he zapped back to the Vees tower and got to work.
Since Vox was weirdly extremely motivated throughout the whole day he finished all the work he had to do that day a lot earlier than expected. He also did the work much much better than normally so he was feeling especially proud of himself. Vox always loved making new goals for himself, no matter how small or stupid a goal is always good to have. Especially if the goal is hard to reach. Vox decided his new goal was to befriend the radio demon and get him to get on one of his shows. Vox knew this would be extremely difficult but it would skyrocket his viewers and bring benefits to both of them. Besides, Vox had his own tricks that would let him get his way.
Vox went up to his bedroom and he figured he would sleep early that day. He wanted to wake up early the next day so he could continually finish his work early and bump into the radio demon on “accident”. Unfortunately only about a minute passed when he got up there when Valentino came into the room with a suspicious smirk on his face.
“Soo Vox, I heard you were strolling around town with the radio demon? Don’t tell me you’re replacing me with him?” Valentino said teasingly. He imagined that Vox would freak out which amused him. Vox was a little surprised Valentino knew this but he wouldn’t put stalking beneath him.
“He was more polite than I expected so I invited him out for coffee. You’re not jealous over that are you?” Vox knew this would anger Valentino which made him want to laugh.
Valentinos smug smile turned into a bit of a frown. “Of course not I just don’t see why you’re associating with someone as weird as him.” Valentino said dismissively. He didn’t necessarily hate Alastor he just disliked most overlords.
For some weird reason Valentinos remark made Vox slightly annoyed. “I’m in no mood today Valentino. I need some rest.” Vox said while signaling Valentino to get out.
“Awww Vox you don’t want to entertain me? Not just a little?” Vox simply gave him a stern look and rolled his eyes.
“You’re no fun.” Valentino said as he was leaving.
Vox called over Vark since he wouldn’t admit it but he liked sleeping which Vark by his side. It was like his best friend. Vox drifted off to sleep determined to work at all of his goals the next day.

The following day Vox got up a little earlier than usual since he had slept a lot more. He slipped out from under Vark and went to go start his work for the day. He went into his room with all his computers and got to work instantly. He realized he had a lot less work than he expected, maybe he knocked out some of today’s work yesterday without even noticing. That was good though since it would give him more time to work on his goal to befriend Alastor. Now that Vox actually thought about it, he had no idea where Alastor would frequent. That’s nothing his cameras wouldn’t fix but even with those it would take a while.
Velvette then burst into his room, she was wearing a smile but one as if she had just been laughing her ass off. What was up with everyone suddenly bursting into Voxes rooms!?
“Vox please explain why I heard that you were on a date with the radio demon?” Velvette said through laughs. She was very clearly making fun of Vox and teasing him. Upon hearing this Vox instinctively bolted up.
“What?!” Vox was appalled to hear this but also wanted to know who was spreading such stupidity’s.
“Valentino told me that you were on a little coffee date with the radio demon! He was so pissed!”Velvette was laughing so much Vox wouldn’t be surprised if she popped a blood vessel. Of course it would be Valentino spreading that.
“I invited him out for coffee on a whim I don’t know why Valentino has this weird idea of that.” Vox said rubbing his head as if he had a headache.
“Well just in case the rumors were true I bought you something I’m sure you’ll like.” Velvette took out a radio from her bag and put it next to Vox.
“Now you can listen to your boyfriend’s broadcasts right?” Velvette laughed as she said this, she liked poking fun at Vox every once in a while. Although the gift did not come from the best of intentions Vox appreciated it a lot. Although he quite liked the gift it would be a bit suspicious if he showed he liked it.
“Thank you Velvette this is the best gift you could’ve ever gotten me.” Vox said sarcastically while rolling his eyes.
“I know I’m pretty great aren’t I.” Velvette said very clearly proud of herself.
“Yes your amazing Velvette now please let me do my work.” Vox liked spending time with Velvette as they were like best friends but they both had work to do.
“Of course I’ll leave you alone now.” Velvette said and she slipped out of the room.
Later that day Vox heard Alastor speak from the radio Velvette had given him. He had recently finished his work and thought it would be nice to listen to something as a distraction for the mean time.
Vox didn’t understand why Alastor still used something as old as radio. Normally Vox would prefer video but he couldn’t put Velvettes gift to waste. She was his best friend after all Vox of course had to be polite. That’s the only reason he was settling for an old dingy radio.
Vox was only half listening since he had lots of things on his mind. He continued to keep the broadcasts on though because Alastor’s voice was admittedly nice to listen to. Vox knew Alastor would only go on the radio for maybe an hour and only whenever he felt like it so he didn’t take this for granted. Near the end of the broadcast though Alastor would finish the actual entertainment bit and just ramble for a minute or two. People loved these few minutes, sometimes even more than the actual broadcast simply because Hell always wanted to be up to date on overlords.
Vox was a bit sad when Alastor started his ramblings since he knew the broadcast would soon be over. He would have quite a bit of free time once the broadcast ended and he really didn’t know what he should do that day.
“Yes the other day I met another overlord for the first time. His name was Vox I believe? He was rather friendly, he even invited me out for coffee!” Said Alastor as if it was all rather amusing.
As Vox heard his name he felt all the air being sucked out of his lungs. Alastor mentioned him?? Normally Vox would be pissed if anyone talked about him as if he was a big joke but for some reason he didn’t see it like that with Alastor. He was happy that he was on his radio broadcast even if just briefly.
If only Vox knew this was just the start of his infatuation with the radio demon. :>
