Chapter 1: The New Minister

Chapter Text

Minister Malfoy Wins Election

By Rita Skeeter

01 October 2004

The votes are in, our new Minister of Magic is Draco Lucius Malfoy! Minister Malfoy ran a beautiful campaign focused on early education reform and civil rights for all magical beings. Many remember the slow start to his campaign was changed when his team hired the fixer extraordinaire Hermione Granger & Associates to run his campaign. Many have referred to the pair as the ‘political dream team’ and this landslide of a win can only go to further that title.

Hermione Granger & Associates, which consists of: Hermione Granger, Harry Potter, Theo Nott and Ginny Weasley, has a notorious reputation for being able to fix any problem. While one might call them a law firm, Hermione Granger is on record saying many times ‘we are not a law firm. We solve problems, by any means necessary.’ Which is a rather Slytherin approach for the Golden Girl but as we all now know, there is no shame in being a snake.

Throughout Minister Malfoy’s campaign one fixture has been his family. The minister married Astoria Greengrass in early 2000 right after earning his NEWTS from Hogwarts. Since then they’ve had two children. Scorpius, age 4 and Violet age 2, have been the primary inspiration for Minister Malfoy’s education initiative. One that Hermione Granger was eager to contribute to. Said education initiative is known for its primary goal, squib integration. This cause is near and dear to the Malfoy family since Scorpius Malfoy was diagnosed as a squib at the age of 3. Since then the Malfoy foundation has poured resources into adding a squib education track in the early education center Hogletts as well as at Hogwarts.

Hogletts was what put Minister Malfoy on the political map back in 2001 when he established the first early magical education center. As a member of the Wizengamont he was able to change the laws to allow magical beings of Muggle decent to be found and brought into the magical world at the age of 3, which as everyone knows is typically the age children exhibit their first signs of magic. At age 5 all magical children are accepted into Hogletts School for Early Witchcraft and Wizardry, and thanks to Minister Malfoy, this also include Squibs.

To further the civil rights of all magical beings Minister Malfoy has announced that his first order as Minister will be to abolish the statute against same sex marriages. He has also announced that in celebration for this monumental change he will be performing the first legal matrimonial bonding ceremony of a same sex couple. The wedding will be held at the Minister’s Mansion and will bond the Minister’s undersecretary, Severus Snape and our Supreme Mugwump, Percival Weasley. The couple has been together for over 8 years now and made history 4 years ago when they announced their relationship at the party celebrating Mr Weasley’s appointment to the head of the Wizengamot. A relationship Minister Malfoy was quick to show support with which laid the groundwork for his civil rights campaign.

In addition to marriage equality, Minister Malfoy has also taken on a campaign for creature rights as inspired by his young cousin Edward Lupin who is a descendant of a werewolf and was born into prosecution. The Lupin act passed in 2002 is a shining example of Minister Malfoy’s compassion. The act was written in honor of the late Remus Lupin who fought for the light in both wizarding wars, sacrificing everything he had for a world that wildly rejected him due to his lycanthropy. The Lupin act not only awards Werewolves equal rights but it also gives them a monthly stipend to purchase wolfsbane should they care to take it.

All in all Minister Malfoy gives us all a lot to be excited about. He is a revolution to our world and I am so incredibly pleased to see him with this victory.
