Chapter 1: New Friend?
Chapter Text
Calypso took in a deep breath as she stared up at the massive building before her. The giant neon sign of the four popular mascot animatronics was shining down on her, the words ‘Freddy Fazbear’s Mega Pizzaplex’ was blinking with little clinking sounds to attract the attention of customers driving by.
Calypso ran her hand through her long, wavy black hair. The navy blue ombre tips reached down to her hips. “Alright, you can do this.” She muttered to herself, trying to hype herself up. “You've already got the job. Your extensive training is over and done with. First day is today. Just don't mess up!” She let out a high pitched nervous giggle at the end of her sentence before she began twirling her hair in her usual nervous habit.
“Hey.”
Calypso let out a yelp, her honey colored eyes wide as she turned to face the person who spoke.
A boy around her age was giving her a sheepish smile as he rubbed the back of his neck. “Sorry, didn't mean to scare ya.” He chuckled out softly.
Calypso let out a relieved sigh before she gave the boy a small smile. He ran a hand through his shaggy, bleached blonde hair before holding out a different one to her. He was wearing a white dress shirt with a black tie, black slacks, and shiny black dress shoes.
“So, you look lost, may I be of service?” He asked, giving Calypso a lopsided smile. “Unless you work here, probably not.” She said with a slight chuckle. The boy grinned brightly, his slate gray eyes lighting up. “Well, I do actually work here! So, how may I help? I'm the head of the animatronic technicians.” He said, giving a slightly cocky smirk.
Calypso blinked, slightly surprised at his admission. He seemed a bit young to be the head of a department. “Well, I'm actually starting in that department today. I was told to report to my head for my duties today…” Calypso said, trailing off before chuckling slightly. “So, reporting for duty, sir!” She finished with a two fingered salute and a quirk of her pink lips.
The boy in front of her widened his eyes, before pulling out a clip board. Where did it come from…? Calypso wondered silently, before the boy made a confirming hum.
“Ah, you must be Calypso, preferred nickname, Cally.” He read off, giving her a bright smile before they both started to walk into the building. “I'm Cade, it's a pleasure to meet you. I'll be your boss. If you have any questions let me know.” He informed her, before stopping at a small door that blended in with the shadows of the hall they were in.
“Down here is the technician's office. You'll start your days by coming here to pick up your tools. We have tool belts that are larger than they seem, and can hold far more tools than you'd think.” Cade said, leading Calypso into the tech office.
Calypso looked around the small room briefly. There was a short desk that took up the back wall. It was littered with dozens of different kinds of tools and parts of different service or staff bots. Against the wall closest to the door was a set of eight short lockers. One had her name on it, another had Cade’s and the other’s nameplates seemed to be missing. There was a small rolly chair next to the desk and on the other side of the door was a set of hooks with different apparel hanging from the metal hooks. The room was about the size of a master bathroom, perhaps a bit smaller.
“Here is your locker. Your tool belt is inside, your locker combo is written on the corner of your map, which is right here.” Cade told her, before handing her the piece of paper. The girl glanced down at the map looking over all the icons that had been doodled on. All the employee stations had been added on to a map that a customer could buy. She glanced at the locker combo in the corner before turning to face the locker with her name on it.
With a nod from Cade, Calypso swiftly opened her locker and pulled out her tool belt. It was pretty simple looking. It essentially looked like an apron servers would wear, but had several tools sticking out of the pockets. “Is there a uniform I have to wear?” Calypso asked, glancing down at her black hoodie and blue jeans with combat boots.
“We do have one, yours is hanging on the hook by the door over there. Your boots are actually perfect for the job, so you can keep those.” Cade said, pointing to where the colored apparel she had noticed earlier were.
Calypso walked to the hooks and saw her name above one. She grabbed her uniform before holding it out in front of her. Furrowing her brow, she tilted her head, confused.
The shirt and pants were both a deep crimson color. The shirt had large ruffles around he neck and coming off the end that would hide her tool belt. Better that I blend in I suppose? She pondered. Right on the chest over where her heart would be was a very simple, yet pretty image of a sun and the opposite side had a small moon.
Calypso raised a brow at the interesting outfit, before noticing that every technician outfit was different from each other’s.
“Um, so, what’s up with the outfits?” Calypso asked, raising a brow to her boss. Cade smiled goofily, “Cool, huh? Each outfit represents which main area every tech works in.” Cade explained, pointing towards the other uniforms. “My uniform is for Monty’s Gator Golf. Each tech works in every area, but they have their own main area they specialize in.”
Calypso nodded at the explanation before looking back down to her uniform. “So, where do I specialize in?” She asked Cade. In response, Cade looked at the watch on his wrist, before looking back to his new employee. “We have a couple hours until we open, so it will be better to show you, that way you can take a look at the animatronic that you’ll have to keep in tip top shape.”
As the two made their way through the Pizzaplex, Cade gave her quick tutorials on other areas that Calypso will be overseeing during her time on the job. It wasn’t long before they reached a set of doors that led to a large open area with two golden statues of a sun faced animatronic and a moon faced one.
“Welcome to the Daycare!” Cade announced as they walked up to the large statues. “This is where you’ll mostly be, other than when you’re scheduled for maintenance in other areas. This is the animatronic you’ll be overseeing.” He continued, pointing to the sun faced statue.
Calypso looked up at the statue before a thought occurred to her. “Where are the other techs?” Cade stopped for a moment, his smile slipping as he pursed his lips, his brows furrowing as though he was trying to figure out how to phrase his next sentence.
“They…quit…”
Calypso blinked blankly at her boss. “Quit?” She echoed, befuddled. Cade nodded, looking apologetic. “The other techs were unable to handle your bot’s…unique personality. After one shift with it, they quit.” He admitted, looking sheepish.
Calypso frowned. “If they quit, what makes you think I could handle the animatronic?” She asked him. Cade gave a shrug. “We’ll see, won’t we. I have a feeling you’ll be fine, but the reality of it is, you’ll have to deal with the bot eventually, and the sooner we weed out who can and who can’t, the better.” He said.
Calypso nodded, accepting his logical answer. “Alright go on in and introduce yourself and start getting to know your bot. If you need me, you have my number programmed in your work phone, which is in your tool belt. There is a bathroom down in the main play area you can use to change into your uniform.” Cade said before he started to head back towards the exit.
“Wait, how do I get down there?” Calypso called out to his retreating back. “Slide into fun!” Was all he replied before he vanished through the door.
Calypso frowned, confused as she mouthed his words to herself. She looked around the open area before her eyes caught sight of a hole in the wall with the words ‘Slide into Fun!’ printed above it. Calypso huffed out a laugh before walking over to the hole and peering inside. “It’s a slide. Very cute.” She murmured to herself.
Calypso clutched her uniform and toolbelt to her chest before launching herself down the slide. She couldn’t stop the squeal of joy that escaped her lips as she rocketed down the long plastic slide.
With an excited giggle, she slid out into a massive ball pit, sending multicolored plastic balls flying everywhere.
Calypso stood, small giggles still leaving her lips as she raked her hair back with her right hand and double checked to make sure she still had her uniform and tool belt.
Calypso started down the narrow path of the pit, wading through the sea of plastic balls, when a sound caused her to stop short just as she reached the area where the pit opened up.
Her honey colored eyes narrowed as she swept her gaze across the area when the sight of some of the balls moving caused her heart to stop for a moment, before restarting full force, slamming against her ribcage.
Calypso tried to silently move towards the small ramp that led out of the ball pit. However, almost as soon as she started to move, whatever was in the pit with her changed directions and was heading straight for her.
Before she could move any further, an animatronic that matched the sun faced statue leapt out of the ocean of plastic, wrapped it’s hands around her waist and easily picked her up, spinning her around in circles as it took her out of the ball pit and into the main play area.
“Oh yay! New friend! New friend! New FRIEND!” The sun-faced animatronic cheered happily as he spun her around in circles, hugging Calypso tightly to himself.
Calypso couldn’t stop the slight shriek of fear that escaped her, which stopped the robot short. He gasped, swiftly putting her down before backing up, pulling his hands to his chest and twiddling his thumbs anxiously.
“O-Oh! I’m so sorry, new friend. I didn’t mean to scare you! I just love meeting new friends. You probably don’t want to be my friend now that I’ve scared you so badly.” He began babbling, his head hanging low. He was a good couple feet taller than her, but somehow managed to look so small at that moment.
Calypso frowned at how sad he looked and began to feel guilty. He seemed so sweet, she just hadn’t been expecting his sudden appearance.
Just as he began to step away, Calypso opened her mouth to speak. “Wait, I’d love to be your friend.” She said, giving him her best smile. Her heart melted at the way he seemed to brighten immediately. “Really?!” He asked as he shot straight up, his hands twitching as though he wanted to pick her up again. The thought made Calypso smile.
“Yea! My name’s Calypso, but you can call me Cally if you want.” She stated, holding out a hand for him to shake. His white eyes seemed to glow brighter as he launched himself forwards and grappled her in a massive bear hug, spinning in circles as he cheered happily. Calypso laughed, finding his actions endearing.
“Calypso! What a fanTASTIC name!” He cried out, holding her out at arms length. He looked her up and down, his eyes scanning her facial features to add her into his database.
As he was doing this, Calypso took the chance to look at him.
Sun appeared to be a jester humanoid animatronic with a stylized sun-shaped head, bright, white eyes, and a permanent wide grinning expression. Part of his face looked like a tan-ish crescent moon that curved over the other yellow half sun-like part. He had a lanky body with long limbs and large, opposable five-fingered hands, which was gradient from tan-ish to gray. Sun was fit with his chest split in two colors, which corresponded with his face. His chest was also adorned with two buttons. He wore yellow pants with maroon stripes, and a maroon stripe at the bottom of his chest, giving the appearance of a belt. A dark pink and yellow ruffled frill was worn around his waist, with a maroon and yellow one around his neck. Sun also wore orange elf-like shoes with a star symbol on the outer part of the shoes, and a moon symbol in the inner part of the shoes. He also had what looked to be bells tied to pink ribbons on his wrists.
Once he was finished, he gently placed her down before taking a couple steps back. Calypso smiled up at him, finding his personality adorable. The animatronic did a pirouette before striking a pose, his legs together and his arms spread out above his head. “My name is Sundrop! But, you can call me Sun or Sunny if you wish, Cally.” He introduced, before lowering his top half into a deep bow. The bells jingled musically as he moved, making Calypso smile.
“It’s a pleasure, Sun. I’m actually going to be working with you a lot, so I hope we become really good friends.” Cally stated, making Sun, who had begun to dance in place, stop short and tilt his head. “Working?” He asked. Cally nodded with a smile. “I’m your new technician. I’m going to be making sure you’re always in working order, so we’ll be seeing a lot of each other.” She explained. Sun’s head spun around as he clapped excitedly. “Ooo! Yay!” He cheered, making Calypso giggle at his antics.
“Alright, I’m just gonna head over to the bathroom and get into my work uniform.” She said, pointing towards the bathroom door at the other end of the daycare. Sun seemed to wilt at her words. “You’re…leaving?” He asked, his modulated voice nearly a whisper.
Calypso felt her heart ache slightly. “Only for a couple minutes. I have to wear this uniform. I’ll be right back, and then we can hang out until we open and the kids come in.” She explained. Sun nodded, still looking sullen that she was leaving his side at all.
Calypso hurried across the play area and into the bathroom. She changed out of her hoodie and jeans and into the uniform that seemed to slightly mimic Sun’s outfit. She tied her tool belt around her waist and hid it beneath the ruffles around the bottom of her shirt, before puffing up the ruffles around her color.
She glanced at herself in the mirror before she walked out the door, giving herself a quick once over. “I don’t look as ridiculous as I thought I would.” She admitted, before grabbing her normal clothes and heading back out the door.
Calypso gasped in surprise as she nearly tripped over Sundrop, who was standing right outside the bathroom door. He stood up straight at the sight of her, seemingly about to say something, before he froze in place, not even twitching.
Worried about him, seeing as he seemingly rarely ever was still, Calypso called out his name softly, before calling it out again a bit more loudly when he gave no response the first time. She still received no response from him.
Calypso furrowed her brow, concern filling her when Sundrop didn’t even flinch.
“Sunny…?”

Chapter Text
Sundrop stood as still as a statue. If he was human, Calypso would be worried about him not breathing. The tech took a step closer to the animatronic before waving a hamd in his face, trying to see if that would catch his attention. When that didn’t work, she snapped her fingers.
“Sunny…?” Calypso called out nervously. She stood on her tip toes to get closer to his face when a small buzzing sound caught her attention.
With a soft hum, Cally walked around Sunny and saw that something on the back of his head was emitting little sparks.
Furrowing her brows, Calypso immediately focused on the issue, only to breathe out a sigh of relief. “He blew a fuse. Easy fix.” She murmured to herself as she dropped her clothes onto the security desk right next to her before reaching into her tool belt and grasping around until she found a small cylindrical fuse that matched the ones in his head. It took her all of twenty seconds before the old fuse was replaced and she slid it into an empty pocket on her belt. She quickly pressed the little button next to the fuse box to return power to her animatronic friend.
Calypso took a small step back as Sundrop shook out his entire body, the sunbeams coming out of the side of his head all retracted one by one before popping back out all at once, before his entire head spun around.
“Thank goodness.” Calypso said, making Sundrop turn to face her. “Cally? What happened?” He asked her, tilting his head. “You blew a fuse. When was the last time you had them changed?” She asked him, looking at him in concern. Sunny hummed out thoughtfully before responding. “Not too long ago.” He admitted.
“Then why did this one blow?” She asked him. Sundrop started to answer, before his voice came out as garbled static. “Sunny?” Calypso asked him, concern rising within her again. “Did you blow another fuse?”
“N-No…” Sunny stuttered out. “What’s wrong?” Cally asked taking a step closer to him. She watched as he raised one hand before it gently grasped a bit of her uniform. “What are you wearing? It looks like…like…” He trailed off, not finishing his sentence.
Calypso looked down at her uniform. “It does look like I’m wearing your clothes, I suppose.” She said with a slight giggle. “What? Do I look bad in them?” She asked, teasingly.
“NO!” He shouted, his hands grabbing her shoulders like he was scared she was going to leave. “Er, no. It looks amazing on you.” He said, before releasing his grip on her shoulders. Calypso felt her cheeks flush at his words.
“So, you wanted to hang out before the kids arrive?” Calypso said after clearing her throat. Sun immediately began jumping from foot to foot and clapping. “Oh boy! Oh boy! Oh boy! Yes, yes, YES! We can finger paint, or play puppet show, or play with glitter glue! I LOVE glitter glue! What do you wanna do?” Sun asked his new friend, who tilted her head in thought.
Her eyes lit up mischievously and Calypso stepped close to Sun, stretching on her tip toes so her face was inches away from his. She could feel Sun’s fans begin to whir louder and his body seemed to heat up even though she wasn’t touching him. Does he…? She began to think before shaking her head mentally of the thought. He couldn’t possibly like me like that. Right?
Calypso kept a coy smirk on her face as she slowly reached up a hand towards Sun’s face. “C-C-Cally?” She never would have believed that an animatronic could squeak, but that’s exactly what Sunny did, which made her chuckle under her breath.
Calypso’s index finger gently booped Sun’s nose and she held it there for a moment, her eyes narrowing slightly. “Tag. You’re it.” She whispered to him before swiftly turning and darting away into the giant play area.
Sundrop stood there for a few moments longer as his internal fans worked hard to cool him off.
Aren’t you gonna chase her?
Wh-What?
The mischievous little star just played you. She tagged you. You’re it.
Sun shook his head violently before realizing what just happened. “Hey wait!” He called out, giving chase. He heard Calypso’s laughter echo throughout the empty daycare and he felt himself begin to heat up again at the sound.
Calypso was bolting to one of the large play towers. It was like a mini parkour course, which she was grateful for because she loved the exercise.
Calypso dashed up the ramp into one of the towers, ran across the little plastic bridge, before zigzagging through the large foam cylinders that were hanging down like stalactites.
“Cally! I see you!”
That was the warning she got before she heard the sound of Sun’s bells getting closer to her as he made his way up the tower and towards her. Calypso pushed herself harder, leaping onto a flat, plastic disc that was hanging by a rope before swinging further ahead and jumping off of it. She landed with a thump on the plush mat before she quickly scaled the rock climbing wall that came up in front of her.
“You are very fast!” Sunny’s voice called to her as she reached the top in record time. Calypso came to a sudden stop when she found that she had reached the end of the path. She looked down at the ground which was very far away, before she looked ahead of her, her honey eyes locking onto the monkey bars that reached across and connected the two of the towards together.
Sunny’s bells were even closer now, and Calypso reached out and grabbed ahold of the cold blue metal, before swiftly throwing her body forward, using the moment to easily make her way forward.
Calypso looked back to see Sunny’s head breach the top of the rock climbing wall, his glowing white eyes locked onto her. “Cally~” He called out as he climbed higher, reached for the monkey bars.
In her haste to get away, Calypso misplaced her hand, misjudging the distance of the next bar. She slipped from surprise, and with a slight yelp, found herself falling off the bars, careening towards the ground with no way to save herself.
“SUNSHINE NO!”
Calypso’s breath escaped her lungs as something launched into her side, redirecting her towards the ball pit as cold metal arms wrapped themselves around her, pulling her to the hard chest of the animatronic that had launched himself from the bars to catch her.
Sunny changed their positions making sure he was on the bottom so he could absorb most of the hit from the fall. He clutched Calypso to himself as they landed, the balls slightly breaking their fall while the trampoline like bottom made them bounce a few times before settling.
Sunny’s arms tightened around her as Calypso let out an incredulous, breathless chuckle. “You ok, Sunny?” She asked, her chest heaving as her lungs demanded air.
It took a moment for him to reply, his only move being to hold her closer to him when she shifted in his arms, as though he was scared she would disappear if he wasn’t holding her.
“I’m ok.” He said quietly. “Are you?” He asked her. “I’m good.” She said breathlessly.
“That’s good.” Sun said with a sigh. They sat there in silence for a few moments as Calypso caught her breath.
“Did you call me Sunshine?” Calypso asked after she had stopped gasping for air. Sunny was silent for a few moments, his fans getting louder and louder as his body got warmer and warmer. “I-It just slipped out! I-I didn’t-” He began to stutter out, his fans whirring louder.
Calypso stopped him short with a peck to the cheek, and Sunny could’ve sworn he felt something short out. “I like it. You can call me Sunshine if you want. And thanks for the save.” She said with a soft smile on her face.
Due to Sunny’s frozen state from her kiss, Calypso was able to easily escape his grip and make her way out of the ball pit. “Well, after that little adventure, do you just want to sit and draw for a little bit?” She asked him as she made her way over to the desk in the back area of the daycare.
Sun shook himself out of his daze and quickly hopped up onto his feet, trailing after his friend like a little puppy. “Ooooo! Drawing?! Yes! I’ll get the crayons! Or do you prefer colored pencils? I have those too!” He asked as he shook his fists excitedly.
Calypso giggled at his antics, before she spoke, “I don’t have a preference really. Whichever you like more.” She told him with a shrug. “I’ll get both~” He sing-songed before skipping away towards the ball pit. Calypso watched with a confused smile as a wire came down from out of seemingly nowhere, before it hooked onto the back of Sun, taking him up to the ledge above the ball pit, before he skipped inside the archway.
“I wonder if that’s his room…” Calypso murmured to herself.
She watched as just a couple minutes later, Sun made his way out of the room, two small boxes under one of his arms, before he launched himself off of the ledge and into the ball pit. Calypso snorted at the dorky animatronic as she sat down at the desk, pushing the keyboard aside to make room for the paper she had found inside one of the drawers.
“Oh…I can’t go there…I’ll get in trouble…” Sun’s voice caught Calypso’s attention, and she looked up to see him twiddling his thumbs anxiously, a box of crayons and a box of colored pencils under his right arm.
Calypso looked down at the desk, before grabbing the stack of copy paper and standing up. “Well, where do you wanna sit?” She asked him, smiling as he began jumping up and down in place. “Ooo! Ooo! Ooo! Over here! Over here!” He said, grabbing her hand and pulling her gently to a small table where the kids would sit and draw at.
“Is this ok?” Sun asked her, turning his head to face her. Calypso smiled up at him. “It’s perfect.” She said, before sitting down on the oddly comfortable plastic kiddy chair.
She was basically kneeling on the ground and the table came up to her hips, but when she looked at Sun, she had to bite her lip to stop herself from squealing at how cute he was; His knees went up to his chest as he practically squatted down in the chair. His neck extended a bit forward so that he could see his paper, and his arms curved around his legs, with one hand holding the paper in place and the other holding a purple colored pencil as he doodled something on the paper. He was slowly moving his knees apart and back together as he hummed softly, his head bobbing side to side.
He is just too cute! Calypso hummed mentally, before widening her eyes. No. No. I can't develop a crush on an animatronic! She thought to herself, before glancing down at her drawing. Calypso winced mentally, having drawn a picture of the daycare attendant himself. How…?
“Can I see what you drew?”
Calypso froze, honey eyes wide as she slowly looked up to see Sun tilting his head, waiting for her permission. “I-I don't know….” She murmured, biting her lip. “Oh don't worry! I'm sure it's-” Sun stopped talking after he grabbed the image.
It was a very well done drawing of him doing a handstand with one hand, although he looked a bit more cartoon in the drawing. His mouth was open in a goofy grin and his white eyes were large circles that were partially closed in joy.
Sun’s beams retracted inside his head, his fans began to whir a little louder as he felt himself heat up and his sun beams popped back out.
“W-Wow…This is amazing! Can I keep this? Oh, can I, can I, can I? Ple-e-ease?!” He pleaded, gently clutching the drawing to his chest, being very careful not to crinkle or crush it.
“I-I suppose so.” Calypso said, blinking at her friend, shocked. “Oooooo! Yes! Thank you, thank you, thank YOU! I’ll keep it forever! I’m going to hang it up in my room, right now! Thank you, Sunshine!” Sunny cheered happily, giving Calypso a hug before he got up and began to skip away.
He stopped short, whipping back around. “I almost forgot!” He gasped, horrified at himself. “What is it? What’s wrong?” Calypso said, worried at his tone of voice.
“I made this for you!” Sun said, picking up his drawing and handing it to his friend. “Do ya…like it?” He asked her nervously, his sun beams going in and out of his head as he twiddled with his thumbs.
Calypso looked down at the picture, her heart melting at what she saw.
It was a simple drawing of both her and Sun hugging each other in chibi forms. Their names were written under themselves and next to her name there were a few hearts drawn around it. There was a little rainbow in the top corner of the paper and the clouds at each end of the rainbow had little smiley faces on them.
“I love it, Sunny. Can I take this home to hang up as well?” Calypso asked him, touched by his picture. Sun’s fans whirred louder, his metal body heating up as his voice box glitched a bit for a second. “Y-Y-Yes, of course! I’d be honored!” He squeaked out, before whipping around and scurrying away towards his room.
Calypso smiled fondly after the animatronic. “Maybe having a crush on him isn’t so bad…” She said quietly to herself as she gazed down at the picture.
“How’s it going?”
Calypso yelped, jumping up into the air as she whipped around to face Cade who was standing just a couple feet away.
“Cade, you startled me.” She said, pressing a hand against her chest as if it would settle her heart. “I seem to be doing that a lot today, huh.” Cade said with a chuckle, stepping closer to her. “What’s that?” He asked her, nodding to the picture she was holding.
Calypso’s cheeks flushed softly. “Oh, Sunny and I were just drawing-”
“Sunny?” Cade asked, interrupting her. Calypso frowned a bit at his rudeness, but nodded nonetheless. “Yes. He uses my nickname, so I figured I should use his, since he seemed to prefer it.” Calypso explained.
“Right. Well, Cally, I was wondering-”
“Oh…Hello..”
Both Calypso and Cade turned to face Sundrop as he spoke. Calypso smiled at Sunny, before registering his tone. He didn’t seem all too happy to see Cade.
Before she could comment on his tone, Sun stepped up close to Calypso, almost standing in front of her like he was protecting her. “Did you…need something?” He asked, his voice devoid of any excitement.
“Sorry, bot. I was talking to my employee.” Cade snapped, looking aggravated as he glared up at Sunny. Calypso flinched at the tone he had, scowling when he called Sunny ‘bot’.
Sun stood up straighter, his eyes analyzing the employee and finding him in his database. He made notes that several other female staff had complaints about his behavior, and he seemed to demean all animatronics he came across.
Sun’s body began to vibrate in anger when he registered Cade’s possessive tone over Calypso. “The kids are arriving soon. It’s time for you to go back to Monty’s.” Sun said, before easily picking up Cade by the scruff of his collar and escorting him to the large wooden door. Sun opened it easily, tossing the employee out, before closing the door behind him and making his way over to Calypso, who had watched the entire thing, dumbstruck.
Sun stopped at the look on his friend’s face.
Did I do something wrong?
I thought it was hilarious.
Not. Helping.
Suddenly, Calypso busted out laughing, clutching her sides as she crumbled to the ground, her guffaws getting louder and louder as tears began building in her eyes from just how hard she was laughing.
Sun looked on, bewildered by her actions. “Uh…Sunshine…?” He asked her, reaching out for her. Calypso used the kiddy table to help stabilize herself and stand herself up, her laughter slowing down into breathless chuckles. “That. Was. Amazing, Sunny. I’m so glad you didn’t let him push you around like that.” Calypso said, wiping the tears from her eyes.
“‘Push me around’? What do you mean?” Sundrop asked her. Calypso looked up at him, furrowing her brow as she moved her long hair back over her shoulders. “You mean…you didn’t do that because of what he called you?” She asked him. Sundrop shook his head at her question.
“Then…why did you do it?” She asked him. Sundrop looked down nervously. He was silent for a few moments before he looked back up into Calypso’s eyes. “I didn’t like the way he was talking about you. Like you belonged to him.” Sun said with obvious distaste. Calypso blinked in surprise. She hadn’t paid much attention to what Cade had said after he had so rudely talked about Sun that way.
“Sunshine…?” Sundrop called, unsure and nervous. “What’s wrong, Sunny?” She asked him. “Could you…” He trailed off and Calypso patiently waited for him to continue.
“Could you not go near him anymore? I don’t like him.” Sundrop admitted. Calypso blinked at Sun’s confession, a smile coming to her face. “I’m not his biggest fan either, Sunny. But, he is my boss. I have to have some level of interaction with him.” Calypso told him. “However,” she continued before Sun could speak up again, “I’ll do my best to have as little interactions with him as possible just for you, alright, Sunny?”
Sun seemed to relax immensely at her words. “Thank you, Sunshine.” He said, going back to his more cheerful self as he gave her a bear hug.
“Now,” Sun started, pulling away slightly to look down at her in his arms, “are you ready to have some great fun with our friends today?”
Calypso smiled and laughed softly. “Sunny, I’m a technician. I don’t think I’m authorized to play with them.”
“But, you are authorized to assist me, yes?” He asked her. “Well, yes, technically speaking.” Calypso admitted. “Well, I need your assistance with the kids! That’ll work, right?” He asked her, his sun beams going in and out of his head one by one.
“Alright, you win this round.” Calypso said with a chuckle. “Yes!” Sun cheered before pulling her into his arms and spinning around and around as he hugged her tightly. Calypso smiled at his actions and hugged him back just as tightly.
This is going to be an interesting day. Calypso thought to herself.
