Chapter Text
Broken.
That's what Eddie Brock is right now. A few days ago, after an interview with Carlton Drake went wrong, he lost everything he had. His job, his career, his relationship, everything. And now, he is sitting in a bar, looking tired and drinking his life way.
A woman in her late 60s approaches the bar. As she asks the bartender for the check, she looks to the right and sees Eddie, all depressed and gloomy. She walks to him and starts a conversation with him.
"Aren't you Eddie Brock?" the woman asked.
"Not anymore," he said before he took another sip of his drink.
"Well, I'm sorry to hear that." the woman said. "Anyway, I'm Brittney, and I couldn't help but look at you like you lost everything you ever wanted."
"Because I did," Eddie said. "I lost my job, my career, my relationship, my apartment, everything because of my stupidness."
"Oh my. Again, sorry to hear that."
Before Brittney could talk to Eddie more, she noticed her nerdy 18-year-old grandson walking towards the bar and her.
"Trevor, sweetie!"
Brittney hugs and kisses her grandson's cheeks.
"Trevor. Guess who I just met." Trevor's grandmother introduced her grandson to the former journalist and told him everything.
"Honey, you wait here. I got to use the bathroom." Brittney then left for the bathroom, leaving Trevor with Eddie.
Trevor sits on the stool next to Eddie and starts conversing with him.
"So, yeah, that's my grandmother. Sorry if she was bothering you." Trevor said. "So, you lost everything, huh?"
Eddie didn't respond to his question, only because he was looking for apartments on his phone, and Trevor noticed this.
"Let me guess. Ex-girlfriend kicked you out?" Trevor asked before Eddie answered.
"First of all, it's ex-finance. And second, yes, she kicked me out. She threw my stuff out the window. They were destroyed and all my clothes. And all I have is my motorcycle, and that's it. And third, nosy much?"
"Sorry, force of habit," Trevor said. "Listen, literally every apartment in San Fran is expensive. And your reputation is destroyed, meaning no one will hire you, journalism or not. No offense. So, if you want, you can move in with me in Oakland until you return. Rent-free for a local celebrity."
"Thanks, but I just want to be alone," Eddie groggily said.
Trevor notices that Eddie's been drinking a little too much. So, he continues talking to Eddie.
"Look, I know it's hard to deal with the fact that everything you had in life is now gone, and you're more depressed than you know. But if you stay alone with that depression and regret coursing through your system, it's just going to make it much worse. It's so much worse that you'll lose all fate in life. Besides, you said your ex burnt every single one of your clothes and destroyed every single one of your stuff by throwing them out the window. So, just come live with me. I'll provide you with clothes, food, and anything else."
While Eddie pondered what Trevor said, Brittney came back.
"Okay, Trevor. I'm ready. Let's go," she said
"Wait, Grandma," Trevor said
As Brittney was paying the check, Trevor told his grandmother everything, which made Brittney feel sorry for Eddie. She then goes up to Eddie and speaks to him.
"Eddie, Trevor has a point. San Francisco apartments are something you can't afford now that no one wants to hire you. So, please, come live with us."
Eddie still hasn't responded to Brittney and Trevor, and the two look at each other, worried and sad.
"Come on, let's go, grandma," Trevor said as he and Brittney started to leave. And as they were about to leave, Eddie stopped them.
"Wait!" Eddie said. "I'll stay at your place for now."
A smile formed across Brittney's lips, and Trevor patted Eddie's back as he spoke.
"Let's go, man."
After paying the bartender, the three exit the bar. Eddie hops on his motorcycle and puts on his helmet as Trevor and Brittney get in Trevor's car. They then drive off from San Francisco to Oakland.
After the long ride, they arrive at Trevor's house. Eddie hops off his motorcycle and removes his helmet as Trevor parks his car in the garage and closes it. He quickly runs out of the garage before it closes as Brittney enters the house from the garage, and Eddie parks his motorcycle in the driveway. Trevor walks up to Eddie and pats his back as they walk to the house's front door. Trevor unlocks the front door, and the two enter the house.
"Mom! Dad!" Trevor calls out as he closes the door and locks it. "I've brought company!"
"I know!" A man's voice said. "Your grandmother told us."
Just then, a woman in her late 40s enters the living room, as well as the two guys. The woman walks up to Eddie and introduces herself to him.
"Hi, Mr. Brock. I'm Blaire Cole. Trevor's mother."
Blaire then told her son to wash up for dinner. Eddie went to the bathroom near the kitchen to wash his hands, and Trevor did the same after Eddie was done. The two ate at the dining table, and everyone discussed Eddie and his problems. The Cole family is more than welcome to let the former journalist celebrity stay till he gets back on his feet.
After dinner was over, Eddie and Trevor went upstairs to go to bed. They enter Trevor's bedroom, and Trevor gives Eddie some pajamas. Eddie then goes to the bathroom across the hall to change. He then comes back into the bedroom.
"So, do you want to sleep on the futon or bed?" Trevor asked. "on second thought, take my bed. It's much more comfortable than the futon, even if it does turn into a bed."
"No, that's okay," Eddie answered. "I'll take the futon."
"Okay," Trevor said. "Well then, let me get you a pillow and a blanket."
Trevor then runs to the hallway closet to get a pillow and a blanket for Eddie. He gets the stuff and hands it to Eddie. The two then go to their sleeping areas. Trevor turns off the light, and the two roommates sleep.
