Chapter Text
The room was basked in ominous lights as the ray from the Hell’s red sky casted its glow through the window of the workshop. A figure was seen creating something on his work table, focusing on his work.
“That’s it.”
“Almost thereee.”
“Now presenting the magic-tastical back flipping rubber duck, HAHA!” Lucifer turned around and thrusted his arm upward, showing off his new duck creation. An almost warm glow radiates from the small inanimate creature.
“That spits fire!”
The duck did a cute backflip along with its adorable tiny squishy noises before a concerning amount of flames spewed from its beak like a miniature flamethrower.
Lucifer cooed at the duck and praised his genius mind for coming up with combining the things he likes and something as cool as spitting fire. Together! Like 2 for 1. Hah!
It’s so cool… it’s-
He faltered in his steps down the leveled floor and stared at the duck in his hand. He should feel happy, ecstatic even! That he was able to make something unique after messing around with the same duck design over and over again, but it was only a short-lived feeling and an empty feeling in his chest returns.
“Oh, God. Who am I kidding?” He glared at the duck and even looked disgusted at what he created.
“This sucks-” He wound up the arm that was holding the duck and prepared to throw it as far away from him as he could. As he took a step forward, he failed to notice a lone rubber duck in front of him, sitting there innocently.
“w-wha- woAH!”
He could see things going in slow motion. His arms flailed about as he tried to balance himself. Only to fail spectacularly as the little duck that he accidentally stepped on flew backwards, which made himself fall forward even faster.
Lucifer quickly spread his wings on instinct to stop his fast descent, but it did nothing much other than catching on the furniture in his room with the unintended consequences of messing up the room. Ducks flying everywhere and he could feel weights on his body. Then his vision suddenly met with darkness.
It’s like in one moment he’s in some place else as a memory that wasn’t his, but also his at the same time flooded his head. The music, the new demons with Charlie, the extermination, the Hotel-
Lucifer woke up with a shakily gasp. His head popped out from under the mountain of his prized rubber ducks… duckies. Army of ducks? As he blinked. What- what just happened.
“Uhh,” He looked around to see that his workshop was a mess as if some kind of Hell tornado went through the place and thought that he should be its victim… and the ducks too. Of course.
“The Hotel- I was helping with the hotel! Wait, no that can’t be right- I was making a fire spitting backflipping duck!”
He shook his head to clear his mind before starting to crawl out of the mess he made. The wings on back flapped a little, making the ducks fly off of him. With that out of the way, he pulled the wings back into himself and started to REALLY look around.
Yup, he’s still in his room and it’s a mess, but he can clean it up in a jiffy!
Wow! What a lapse of memory. It’s like he was dreaming about reconciling with his daughter, getting to know her friends, helping her towards her dream like a good father he is and living with her in this “Hazbin Hotel”
For a second there he thought that he’s starting to become crazy with loneliness and that his mind started to conjure up some sweet fantasies for him, which hasn’t happened in a long time.
“Next thing that’s going to happen is my daughter calling me. Hah! That’s hilarious-”
A circus ringtone sounded from his pocket and he could feel his heart dropping with a hint of foreboding.
“Okay, this is nothing Charlie. Breathe. ” The princess of Hell took a deep breath while her hotel residents, who are her friends now, looked at her in encouragement. Vaggie smiled at her girlfriend as she walked towards her.
“It’s okay, I’m here.”
Charlie returned her affection with a smile of her own, though a hesitant one. Okay, this is nothing! Just calling her dad, nothing bad is going to happen. At the very worst, he is probably going to laugh at her with her idea though it’s nothing that she can’t handle. Right?
“I’mmmm going to call now.”
It only took a couple of rings for the phone to be picked up. It felt nerve wracking to talk to her dad and others can only hear a one-sided conversation from her, so the phone was put on speaker so others could hear their conversation as well.
“Oh- ohhh. Hey, Char-char!” There’s an awkward pause at the end of the line and Charlie took that as her que to greet her dad.
“Hi, dad.” Charlie said with a small unsure grin on her face. Her eyes caught Vaggie’s own as she gave Charlie a thumbs up. The rest of the occupants in the room looked on with wide eyes while Nifty… is being Nifty.
“Hey! How are ya? How’s um the uhhhh- you…” An almost hesitant tone leaked through the phone’s speaker as Lucifer tried to formulate a response.
“Ah! Yes, how’s that Hotel of yours doing?”
Charlie looked shocked while the hand that was holding the phone went slack, almost falling off her hand if not for a part of her working brain that remembered that she still had her phone. Her girlfriend looked at her in concern.
“...That’s what you’re doing, right?”
She forcefully pulled her thoughts back into place and for the first time in forever, a genuine smile appeared on her face. Charlie nodded and after noticing that she’s on the phone and her dad can’t see her, she replied.
“Yeah! You actually remembered this time?”
“Haha, of course dear. Why wouldn’t I?” Lucifer cringed on the other side of the phone as he definitely forgot about it, but by some miracle after confirming that his dreams were indeed happening in real life that he finally grasped the situation.
Though it’s like water and he’s currently grabbing at nothing.
He’s currently having a small hunch that his daughter is going to ask a favor of him for a way to get into Heaven and tries to convince him that it’s a great idea to redeem sinners. Did a whole song and dance and everything!
“So, dad. I have kind of a big ask”
Ohhhhhh noooo, it’s happening. It’s really happening.
Lucifer’s hand ran through his hair and the hat that he was wearing fell on the table. What should he say? Could he really turn her request away and pretend that in his supposed “Dream” that plan of hers didn’t work?
But… they found out later on that it’s possible to redeem sinners. Well, one snake guy anyway.
He must’ve taken too long to answer because a tentative voice sounded from his phone.
“Dad. Are you okay?”
“Feeling great! Wonderful even!” Lucifer replied in his painfully cheerful voice. A small laugh escapes him and his brain is working overtime to think of something that doesn’t make him sound horrid for saying no to her or saying yes but without also sounding weird.
“Anything in my power is yours for the asking, you just name it~”
“I need to speak to heaven.”
There it is, right on the mark.
“Well, whoever’s in charge up there, above Adam, above anybody. I need to go to the top!”
“Oh! Charlie, dear. I don’t know…” He’s at an impasse of what to do. Lucifer wondered if things would end differently if he didn’t do as she asked. Though without that, he wouldn’t be able to be with his daughter or help her achieve her dream.
Or seeing her truly smile again.
“Please, dad? This- this is really important to me. It’s the most important thing I’ve ever done.” Charlie’s gentle voice broke through the fogs in his mind.
“And I need you”
Lucifer bit his lips and a small frown appeared on his face. Why is this a hard decision for him? He was able to see what she’s capable of and hold her own against anything. He needs to trust in Charlie.
“Well… does that mean I get to come over and visit. See what it’s all about first?” He said in a small yet hopeful tone leaked into his voice.
An excited gasp and some rushing sounds of fabric could be heard before Charlie replied, “Yes! Of course you can, dad”
“Lovely! I’ll be there in an hour!”
Lucifer ended the call with a flourish of his hand and a determined look fired in his eyes. Time to be a good father.
