Work Text:

Delaware found himself in a place he often did, curled up on the window bench in one of the many lesser used rooms in the statehouse. He liked it because the room, some sort of study he thought, with its cozy atmosphere and perfect temperature always seemed to put him at peace if he was having a rough day.

He loved the dark burgundy paint on the walls, the fan on the ceiling causing just the right amount of white noise and the plush carpet that he always took a long moment to pause and feel whenever he entered. He loved that this room was far enough to one side of the house that he could barely hear the shouting and yelling going on everywhere else.

But, the one thing he loved the most was that this room, the window he was at, had a wonderful view of the front yard. He put his head in his hands, elbows resting on his knees as he stared down, gaze trailing over the states in the yard.

"What're ya lookin' at Sugar?"

"An angel."

"That so?"

Del couldn't stop the happy sigh that left him as he watched the man run around with a few other states as they played football. Behind him North gave a quiet chuckle, "Yer so lovesick, it's adorable. Am I gonna have ta keep ya on a leash, make sure ya don' leave me?"

A moment of fumbling had Delaware turning to look at North with wide eyes and it wasn't until he saw the amused smile on his partner's face did he realize that the man was joking. Worry fled his body as his thoughts caught up to him. He and North had more than once talked about Del's attraction to Rhode.

North couldn't deny that the man was gorgeous, and definitely snarky enough to keep both he and Del on their toes. Del, while a Northeast state, was much more reserved, at least until he got pushed beyond his limit and that took a while to achieve. He had an amazing amount of composure, something that drew North to him in the first place. But, Rhode Island was a wildcard. He'd heard about the time where the man had threatened to bite off Gov's arm. That had been a hoot.

Maybe it was time to see if he could start dropping some hints, just a few, to test the waters. Del would probably not like it, but this was one of those times where North was sure of what was best for his bunny. That and he was admittedly tired of hearing the man whine about how the freckles on Rhode's face looked like stars in the night sky. Leaning forward he placed a hand on Delaware's shoulder and his other on the windowsill to peer outside as well. Delaware adjusted to better hold him up before stilling again.

"Owner?"

"Hmm?" North's gaze flickered down to Delaware, the man once again looking back out the window, attention firmly on Rhode Island, who was now in a fist fight with Massachusetts, rolling around on the ground.

They were both well aware of just how good bruises looked on the man. Both were excited to see how these would turn out.

"Owner, do you think that we could… we could maybe talk to him?" Delaware sucked his bottom lip between his teeth, worrying it as he always did when he was nervous. North moved so he could gently tap his pointer finger against Del's lips in a warning. The smaller man immediately stopped a small, "Sorry Owner, forgot." falling from his mouth, though his eyes never strayed from the man holding his attention.

North was pleased, both because Del had listened to him without fuss and because his bun wanted him to do exactly what he had already planned. Returning his hand to the man's back, North let out a gentle hum, "We'll see Darlin', we'll see."
