Workplace Hazards

Summary:

Mon gets injured at work and Sam fusses.

Work Text:

Hearing a crash from the main employee area, Sam rolled her eyes and wondered what she needed to get replaced now. After a second, she heard a small cry and she jumped to her feet. She knew the sound of her wife’s voice, even from in her office.

“What happened?” Sam asked, going straight over to Mon who was now sitting on a chair.

“The painting fell off the wall and hit Mon,” someone replied. She didn’t care who it was at this time. Her attention was solely on Mon.

“Mon, what hurts?” Sam asked gently, tenderly caressing Mon’s face.

“My head,” Mon replied through the tears.

Noticing where Mon’s hand was, Sam’s eyes went wide. There was blood on her fingers. “Get the first aid kit,” she ordered, pulling over another chair, she sat in front of her.

Pulling the kit open she got the gauze out and moved Mon’s hand to apply pressure to the area.

Watching Mon notice the blood, Sam saw the panic set in. Mon never did well with blood, especially her own.

“It’s going to be okay. I’m here and I’ll be here the whole time,” Sam said gently, trying to keep her calm.

“Noi, call my private doctor and tell him to come immediately. Mon and I will be in my office.”

“Yes, Boss,” Noi replied, quickly moving to the phone.

“Mon, do you think you can stand?” Sam asked, wiping away more tears that fell down her face.

Nodding her head, Mon allowed Sam to help her up. Heading to the office, Mon was thankful that no more attention would be drawn to herself. It was bad enough she didn’t know half the jokes people said during her first few months here, she was always watched, people were too nice to her, and now she understood more, got to know them all on a more personal level and everyone accepted her. They accepted her and Sam together.

“Let’s wash your hand,” Sam said, guiding her over to the sink, a hand still holding the gauze against the wound.

“Okay.” Feeling the warm water over her hands, she washed the blood away and dried them on the hand towel. Her head really hurt but having Sam by her side made it a little easier.

“Sit, my love, your head must hurt, a lot,” Sam said, guiding her to the couch.

“It really hurts,” Mon replied, wiping her tears away and trying to gather herself. “I was just standing there and then the artwork fell and the corner hit me. I have had the worst luck this week.”

“You really have. First the pool, then the chair, and now this. Don’t worry, it can be replaced, you can’t. You are what matters to me.”

Feeling Mon rest against her, Sam shifted so she was still holding the gauze over the wound. She hated to see the person she loved hurt, and she needed the doctor to get here and tend to her wife. Seeing Mon crying made her insides tighten.

Allowing Mon to relax as much as she could, Doctor Saetan arrived fifteen minutes later, his medical bag by his side.

“Lady Sam, how may I help today?”

“My wife is injured. A piece of artwork fell and the corner cut her head,” Sam explained as he came closer to look at Mon.

“I’m going to need the gauze removed, please.”

Holding Mon’s hand as he shone a light at the wound, he made a few sounds and grabbed a pair of gloves.

“Mon, does this hurt?” he asked, poking around the area.

Watching Mon pull back and make a pained noise, Sam felt herself get defensive as she moved to sit on the edge of the seat.

“You have a nasty bump, and the artwork has split the skin by three centimetres. I can clean it and glue it closed, otherwise it’s stitches. I do want to check one other thing first. Mon, follow my finger with your eyes as I look into them with this light.”

Trying her best to do what he said, Mon found the light too much and had to close her eyes. Her head was pounding, she was in pain, and she just wanted this to all be over.

“Okay, no concussion. Just one very nasty crack to the head.”

“Are you okay?” Sam asked Mon as Doctor Saetan went to his medical bag.

“I just want to go home,” Mon weakly replied, wiping away fresh tears.

“Soon, my love. Soon.”

“I’m going to clean and dry the wound and then glue it back up. Is that okay or do you want stitches? I have a local anaesthetic in my bag for it.”

“Glue, please,” Mon quickly replied. She did not want a huge needle anywhere near her head, not now, not ever.

“Okay. It would be best if you closed your eyes for this. Saline may drip down from the area and you don’t want that it your eyes.”

Closing her eyes, Mon held tighter onto Sam’s hand. She could feel the cold saline squirting into the wound and it stung. Next came pressure, and to her best guess he was patting the area dry. There was saline trickling down her face, and she felt a gentle touch as Sam wiped it away. She could smell her perfume and it helped relax her.

“Almost done. Just another minute.”

Breathing out slowly, Mon felt something warm touch the wound that got real hot very quickly. Feeling a hard pinch to the area, Mon found herself crying as Sam wrapped her arms around her.

“Sorry, but this needs to stick to hold it closed. A few more seconds.”

It felt like ages before he let go of the area and examined it. “You’re all good. Take your normal pain medication and relax and get plenty of rest.”

“Thank you, Doctor Saetan,” Sam said, watching him leave her office.

Wrapping Mon up in her arms so she was leaning into her chest, Sam pressed a soft kiss to her temple. Sam wanted nothing more than to stop the pain her wife was in. Pressing another kiss to her head, she gently ran her hand over her upper arm.

“Can we go home?” Mon asked, not moving from her spot against Sam’s chest.

“Anything you want, my darling.”

Helping Mon up, Sam carefully fixed her hair around the wound and wiped away the tears from her face. “Let me take care of you tonight. I want to help make you feel better.”

“I will let you this once,” Mon said, looking at her wife, cracking a smile as Sam pressed a kiss to her cheek.

Exiting the office, everyone looked up as they walked past.

“Mon, are you okay?” at least three different people asked.

“I’m okay. Thank you all for caring so much.” Looking at everyone, she hadn’t realised how much they really cared until recently.

“You may all take the rest of the day off. Save your work, shut down your computers, and head home,” Sam said, addressing everyone as she led herself and Mon down to her car.

Opening the door for Mon, Sam waited until she was inside before closing it. Slipping into the driver’s seat, she made sure they both had their seatbelts on before pulling onto the road.

Watching the tall buildings of the city go by, Mon got lost in her thoughts as they entered the residential areas and then finally got to their home. Not realising they had parked, Sam’s hand on her shoulder made her jump slightly.

“We’re home.”

“Okay.” Unbuckling her belt, she got out and joined Sam at the front of the car. She headed to the front door. Once it was unlocked, she went inside and kicked her shoes off before laying on the couch.

“Have I done something wrong?” Sam asked. Mon had not said a word to her or acknowledged any touches since leaving her office.

“Not at all. I’m just really tired,” Mon yawned. “I’m sorry if I made you worry.”

“It’s okay. Let’s go to bed and rest for a while. It’s more comfortable than the couch.”

“I only will because you’re so cute,” Mon smiled, allowing Sam to help her up. Pulling her close, Mon pressed a kiss to her lips, smiling at her.

“You’re cuter, my beautiful wife.”

Making their way upstairs and into the bedroom, Mon slid into bed and when Sam joined her a moment later, she cuddled into her side. Being in Sam’s arms was safe and warm. Nothing could hurt her with Sam.

Feeling a kiss press against her forehead, Mon shifted slightly and kissed Sam on the lips.

“I love you, my ChamCham.”

“I love you too, my MonMon. Get some rest, I’ll be right here the entire time. Wake me if you need anything, please.”

“I will.”

Closing her eyes, Mon took some slow and steady breaths and before she knew it, she fell into a comfortable dreamless sleep in her wife’s embrace.
