Chapter 1: Finally Leaving
Chapter Text
The way the Sun beamed through the curtains was horrible.
The soft sun finding its way into his room was unbearable.
Basil only wanted to sleep, yet the sun seemed to enjoy ruining that at every chance it could.
With a sigh and a grunt he made his way out of bed and looked around his now dimly lit room.
All the plants he had owned were now reduced to dead twigs in dry pots, He could even start to see dust accumulating on them.
It didn't matter though, nothing did these days to him. He had spent the last 3 years locked in his own home.
A prison cell made just for him.
But that didn't matter now. Thanks to the efforts of Polly and His parents he had been accepted into a College. While he didn't exactly want to go he didn't mind it. It wasn't like He had anything left in Faraway.
It was for the Better now. He would finally be gone and would continue his slow and miserable life.
Slowly he made his way to the Bathroom to do what little maintenance for his health he kept these days.
It was like a slow routine he had made for himself. Wake up, Shower, brush his teeth if he is feeling extra for that day, Then make his way back to his room. He had no reason to make his way to the rest of the house either. It wasn't dirty since no one ever used it.
Polly had tried with his parents after his grandmother's passing to stay as Basil's caretaker. Funny enough they agreed to the deal and Polly stayed. But it was already too late.
That fateful night had already happened. Basil thought that things couldn't have possibly gotten worse after that but they did cause the moment he woke up he now finds out that the secret that he had kept for 4 years, the secret he destroyed himself for had finally been spilled without his knowledge.
He woke up in that cold empty hospital room feeling nothing. He had finally lost everything.
Kel had visited his room to ask a few questions. The once Joyful and practically glowing boy now walked with a somber expression and seemed completely and utterly destroyed.
He had asked if things were as Sunny said and asked for Basil’s recount of the event.
Basil did his best to explain. He had come early to try and help them prepare, He entered the home to find Mari and Sunny screaming at each other, Beating each other with horrible insults. Sunny was crying and face flushed red, He tried to run down the stairs but Mari grabbed his shoulders, They struggled and Sunny then Screamed to let go, Then pushed her. It was only after the gruesome sounds of snapping and banging had ended did all sound stopped.
Sunny didn't even acknowledge Basil till he got down the stairs.
Kel listened to the whole thing and watched Basil intently. Basil chose to tell the whole story as is, It didn't seem useful to try and lie for Sunny anymore.
After which Kel nodded. He told Basil that Sunny had tweaked the story but the way Basil tells it makes a bit more sense to him, But he didn't elaborate on how Sunny had Changed it.
After that, Kel got up and told Basil that he needed time to think about it and everything, that he needed to be there for Hero and Aubrey But he would be in contact. Basil nodded and understood. After that Kel gave a weak smile and left.
Basil hasn't seen Kel since that day.
After he was released from the hospital he chose to bury himself in his home. He had no reason to leave now. With his grandmother's death, all his school work would be dropped off at his home and would be picked up from there too. Polly would make food and leave it at his door, Sometimes she would knock or try to speak to Basil but he had no words anymore.
Once he turned 18 Polly had to leave, She cried for a while and Basil sat with her. He did feel bad for her, She tried to make a connection with him but it was one that Basil didn't want, He didn't want to hurt anyone anymore. He was just a parasite to feed off other's kindness and he desperately didn't want that for Polly.
She told him she would be moving to a city nearby and that she would leave her number if he ever needed help or just wanted to talk or have her visit. He nodded and saw her off.
He never did call.
It's been 1 year of full isolation now. 1 full year of not seeing a single other person.
Basil almost felt at peace with it, He knew that no one would come looking for him now. No one had since it all happened.
So he went through his days like he always did.
Walking through his now empty home he went and looked at the now dead plants. Each of them is now long dead and collecting dust in their dry pots and sandy soil.
He felt bad for them, If only he had donated them. Maybe they could still be alive, Maybe even thrive. But he didn't. Basil was Horrible like that.
So he scrambled his way to the fridge. He opened the door and squatted to get a good view.
Inside he found mostly rotted food. It was at that point he remembered he hadn't called for any groceries in about a month. He would only go to eat on days when he felt needed to. Thankfully it only resulted in him losing some weight, For he wasn't skin and bones yet.
With a sigh he slowly closed the door, He would need to call later to have them delivered.
Slowly he made his way to his room when he heard an Earsplitting Knock on his front door.
The sound left him jumping and his very soul almost escaping.
He turned and after a second the knock hit again. It hit every 5 seconds.
He could feel his body twitch and itch with anxiety. ‘Who could be coming here?’ He thought.
He crept his way to the door and looked through the peephole, He was met with the shocking view of a Tall and Tan Man, A massive smile stretched across his face. Behind him an equally tall Man Stood with a more somber expression. The 2 stood for a while then the knock came again this one forcing a yelp out of Basil as he fell back onto his butt. The sound seemed to have traveled as the Man on the other side spoke.
“Uh... Basil? Was that you?” Kel said in a much deeper voice than Basil remembered. It has been 3 years Basil had to remind himself.
Slowly he stood up and put his hand on the knob and unlocked it, If he was to die then who more fitting than The Man who loved the girl he killed and the Best friend of the one he scared for life.
Slowly he cracked the door open enough for the top of his head to peak out and for him to see the 2.
“Uh. He-” Basil had to stop himself and let out a cough to try and wet his throat “Hey uhm H-How are you?” His voice was Hoarce and crackly, It still retained his soft tone though.
“It is you,” Kel said with a look of almost amazement on his face, Behind him, Hero almost looked Confused. “Oh uhm Sorry I just wanted to come say Hi and that Hero was in town.” Kel nodded back towards Hero as He gave a weak wave his face still plastered with confusion.
“Oh … Uhm Hi H-Hero” Basil Struggled to get the name out and wanted nothing but to close the door and retreat to his room.
“Hey Basil, Long time no see, Sorry about that Medical school has been a dozzy, but I'm in town for a while to help with Kel moving and wanted to come by and see if you would like to come hang out with us?” Hero spoke with his natural charm and smiled at Basil But Basil could only look at him with confusion.
“Oh … uhm su-sure I’ll uh Go get dressed I guess.” With that, he closed the door and slid down to the ground grabbing at his hair. He felt nauseous. ‘Why were they Here? To torture Me?’ Basil's mind was moving far too fast. ‘ Why are they talking to me as if they didn't leave for 3 years? Do they want to reconcile? No that's stupid, They just want to hurt me a little more before they leave this rotten town and leave me to rot with it.’ It was the only natural way to think. Nothing else made sense to Basil at this moment.
As he calmed down he could hear them the 2 talking outside.
“Are you sure he’s okay he seemed a bit . . . Scared?” Hero spoke.
“Don't worry, Basil has always been like that,” said Kel.
“I mean yeah but .. he almost seemed like he hadn't spoken to anyone in a while, When was the last time you saw him?” Hero asked.
“Uhm … now that you ask I'm not sure, to be honest, I've been busy with school and I don't ever see him around either so it's been a while,” said Kel.
“Wait, You never saw him at school?” Asked Hero. sounding even more confused now.
“Not really, Just assumed we had different periods.” Said Kel with an honest tone.
“Oh,” said Hero blankly.
Basil got up and slowly made his way to his room, He had agreed and now had to follow through with what they asked of him.
He got on a long knit sweater and some jeans and grabbed his wallet.
After getting dressed he picked up his phone sliding it into his pocket.
Making his way back he opened the door and watched as the two expressions almost became worried at his appearance. Basil had almost forgotten that he didn't ever comb his hair, and his bags must have been much darker than he thought. He scratched his head and gave a weak chuckle to the two.
Hero looked to Kel and Kel nodded to him.
“Welp let's go ahead and get on our way then, Dont want to keep the others waiting now do we?” Kel said his beaming smile returning.
‘The others?’ Basil thought, Dread now returning to his body.

Chapter Text
Well, this was different from what Basil thought he was going to be doing today.
He was meant to be leaving for college in a week, He was going to spend that week letting himself rot and waste away. The same as he has for the past 3 years. He welcomed that. His life was going to change and that was okay, He needed that change desperately.
Faraway was a horrible reminder of his crimes and the people he hurt. So college would be good. When he was there he could live his life, He could leave his home, He could be a person because he would finally be far gone from the place and people he had irreversibly damaged.
But here he was, Walking with Kel and Hero, on his way to their home for some sort of going away party for Kel. He was going away for college and he and Hero were having a celebration. They had Mentioned something about the ‘Others’ Coming too.
Basil hopes that the ‘Others’ That the two are referring to isn't what he thinks they are because while he can hardly stand Seeing Hero and Kel, He’s sure that Aubrey would Bash his head in two at least. . . Then there's The case of . . . Sunny
Basil Shakes his head to change his course of thought and tunes into Hero and Kel's conversation to try and distract himself from the thoughts of “Him’.
“So yeah, Aubrey is coming back from her stay in the City for the Party too, Almost didn't though Haha, Had to get Hero to convince her,” Kel says practically glowing with a grin ear to ear as he scratches his nape.
“It was nothing really, I just said that it would be good since it would be the last time for us all to see Faraway together.” Hero gave a modest smile and turned to Basil ``That reminds me, Any plans for the future Basil?” Hero eyed Basil curiously awaiting his response.
“Ah uhm... Well, I was -” Basil was cut from his thoughts by Kel yelling at the top of his lungs.
“AUBREY HEY!!!” Kel then sprinted forward to Aubrey who had just got out of her car and nearly caused them to Collapse from the Bear hug he wrapped her in.
“HEY - Jesus Kel let go Before you crush me to death” Aubrey was pushing Kel's face away as he hugged her tightly a smile still glued to his face.
“Ah, it's been too long Aubrey, How the city life, how Kim, how school, how Bun-Bun- OH how Sunn-” Kel was finally shut up as Aubrey gave him a mean punch to the side that finally got him off her as he Laughed it off.
“Jesus Kel calm down haha” Aubrey laughed as she finally brushed herself off and gave Kel a pat on the back “City life fine, It's gonna be nice to see you around more, Kim’s fine, She still majoring in Fashion with me, School is school, Bun-Bun is doing great, So how's about we shut up and get inside cause I am starved after that drive.” Aubrey gave Kel a warm smile as he started bouncing with Joy.
“OH YEA, Mom made so much food for the party since they had to go out of town for me and Hero’s uncle’s Birthday, So there's gonna be plenty as long as I don't get to it first haha,” Kel said elbowing Aubrey softly as he chuckled.
Aubrey rolled her eyes and turned to look at the sidewalk, At Hero and Basil.
“Oh hey Hero I was Ju-” She cut herself off as she now saw the Fidgeting Blonde whose eyes seemed to be extremely interested in the cracked concrete. She was taken aback by the sight of him but was quickly pulled back by Hero approaching her.
“Hey Aubrey nice to see you.” Hero said giving his Classic smile and wrapping Aubrey in a much softer Hug than Kel's. “Long time no see, Happy to see you could make it. Looks like we might get everyone here for this.” Hero Smiled down at Aubrey and she smiled back still reeling from seeing Basil after all this time.
Said Blonde Boy was Currently freaking out. He had glued his eyes to the concrete and could see everyone's shoes, He was both completely toned out of their conversation and Dialed into the max, His mind was racing and still all at once. He could feel Aubrey’s gaze on him and he felt like he might melt under it. His Fingers picking at the sides of his nails, With a heavy breath he closed his eyes to try and focus.
But was then met with a Hug wrapping around him.
“Damn . . . It's been too long you not so little blond shut in.” Aubrey tightly hugged Basil and He felt like he would burst under it. He could feel her eyes wetting against his Chest.
“Hi, Aubrey. Been a while.” Basil squeaked out as he rubbed his neck.
“Damn right, it has.” Aubrey chuckled and Tightened her grip then let go looking up at Him “Fuck man, You shot up while I was gone, I used to think you would stay the shortest.”
Basil chuckled at that, She wasn't wrong, Puberty had finally hit him and because of that, he had grown quite a bit and fast, The stretch marks remaining prominent on his back and legs.
While he wasn't quite as tall as Kel with him being near 6 foot 7, He was still tall resting at 6 foot 1.
“You know you did embody that damn flower shooting up like that.” Aubrey joked.
“Wh-What?” Basil was somewhat confused by her comment.
“Sunflowers? Ya know like the super tall ones you used to grow, You always said that you wanted to be like them, Seems like ya took that home haha.” As Aubrey chuckled Basil was taken aback, She remembered that?
“I didn't know you still remembered that,” Basil said
“How could I forget with Sunny never shutting up about it all the time, Especially since he’s started his projects.” Aubrey gave an exasperated sigh after saying, “But enough of that, Let's get in and fuck that food up.” She gave Basil a smile with a mischievous grin as she gripped his wrist and practically dragged him along as they entered Kel and Hero's home.
As they entered Basil was hit with a wave of nostalgia. It had been 8 years since Basil had come here and it felt the same. The warm feeling in the air and the smell of fresh food.
He could hear Hero already scolding Kel for trying to start eating.
Aubrey and Him entered the dining room to the sight of Kel begging Hero for a Roll as they waited. Hero still did not relent that they needed to wait for everyone to arrive.
After the two noticed that Aubrey and Basil had entered everyone finally got seated and Hero got everyone drinks as they now waited for the last person to join them.
Basil dreaded for them to arrive. He was afraid, Petrified. But he still had some excitement. He did want to see Sunny, but did Sunny want to see him?
It had been so long since they last saw each other, and even longer since they had been friends. But still, he felt his stomach get warm and his face lighten when He thought of Sunny. Despite everything he still wanted to see Him, Basil wanted to apologize, He wanted to Hug him, He wanted to Talk to Him, He wanted to try and rebuild, He wanted to Know Sunny again. He wanted so badly to know if Sunny still thought about Him like he did with Sunny.
Basil wondered what sunny would look like now, Did he fully lose his eye? Did he wear an eyepatch now or did he use a prosthetic? Would he still be mad about that? That feels dumb to ask Basil thinks, of course, he would be mad about most likely losing one of his eyes, Half his vision forever stolen from him because Basil couldn't tell what was real and what wasn't.
But he hoped Sunny would forgive him, He would beg if that’s what Sunny wanted. He just wanted to see him again. The Boy who used to be his best friend, His Accomplice, The Boy who used to help lighten his days and bring him back, The Boy who had saved him Both Physically by stopping him that night, and Mentally by revealing the truth. The boy that Basil . . . . . . . That he... Lov-
Basil was promptly kicked from his thoughts by Aubrey Groaning loudly and hitting the table.
“Jesus Fuck, When is this asshole gonna get here?” She exclaimed.
“Give him some time Aubrey, Didn't you say he’s been busy all week?” Hero asked
“Well yea but we've been planning this for months now, He said he would come and Now,” she points to Basil “, It's even more important he comes.” She groaned loudly and then pulled out her phone.
“Screw this I'm calling the little Blind Goblin and if he isn't on his way then we're all going to drag him here.” Aubrey sounded like she was going to beat Sunny to a pulp if he didn't show up, Basil feared for him all the same too.
After a few seconds of Silence, Aubrey Loudly Yelled: “ Hey you Fuck, Where are you!?” She was gripping her phone like it was the scruff of Sunny's shirt.
“What the Hell do you mean You got sidetracked?”
“Well okay as long as you get here, How far out are you?”
“Thank Christ, I don't think we could stop Kel if you were any farther.”
“What do you mean you're going to take a detour?”
“Where the hell could you need to go in Faraway that's more important than here huh?”
After that Aubrey fell silent and her face looked more somber, her anger flushed away. Basil wondered where Sunny had to be.
After nearly 2 minutes of silence, only Aubrey knew what Sunny was saying.
“Oh, that makes sense. But don't worry that's already settled.”
“No you dork I don't mean like that, He’s here with us.”
“Do you think I would lie about that here let me prove it.” Aubrey then promptly turned to the side shoving her phone up to Basil's face and pinching his knee.
In response, Basil yelped almost jumping out of his chair.
“A-AUBREY H-HEY!” Basil reached down and rubbed the now sore spot as she chuckled and pulled her phone back.
“There hear that he’s here, SO hurry your ass up.” She laughed as she hung up on him.
“Don't worry guys, he's only a few minutes out, He was going to stop by Basils but now that we have him he’s coming straight here.” Aubrey put her phone back in her pocket as she spoke.
“Oh thank god, I don't think I could wait any longer if he was too far out,” Kel said with so much Joy you would think he won the Lottery.
Hero looked confused then turned to Basil, “He was going to your place? Did you guys have something to do?” Hero asked.
“O-Oh uhm N-No, I uh, I haven't spoken to Him s-since the Ho-Hospital, s- same as you guys.” Basil was wringing his hands in his lap now feeling guilty.
“Oh, Huh, wonder why he was going over then?” Hero looked back to his cup as he took a drink.
After that Aubrey, Hero, and Kel started to catch up and now and again would look for Basil’s input which he would give but never enough to enter the conversation himself.
From what he heard Kel is Going to college on a scholarship thanks to his sports in high school, He was going to try and use that to do Basketball professionally, Hero had continued with Medical school and is now taking classes while being a part-time Nurse, Aubrey had gotten enough money from work and enrolled in a collage not too far for Fashion design, She had gotten in With Kim who Basil had now learned was Aubrey Girlfriend, He was shocked and everyone found it funny that he didn't know. He did feel a little relieved, with Kel asking questions about Sunny to Aubrey and with him being the one to call and seeming to be the closest one with him, Basil had almost assumed that Sunny and she had finally made that childhood crush that Basil thought of a reality. Why was he relieved that Sunny wasn't dating Aubrey? Why was he Revealed that Aubrey was Lesbian?
He shook the thoughts free as Hero got up to get everyone a second cup, Basil asked for water, Aubrey asked for whatever they had, and Kel got Orange Joe.
S they all sat a Knock at the door alerted them all, Kewl shot up and Aubrey smiled.
They heard Hero open the door.
“Sunny good to see you, come on in.” everyone got up from the table and moved to the living room, Basil lagging.
As they entered Kel ran Up picking Sunny up and squeezing him “SUNNY, It's been too long bro.” Kel gave him puppy dog eyes and he shook him
“Kel, Okay okay, let me down now your gonna crush me haha” Sunny chuckled as Kel saw him back down.
God's Sunny’s voice, had gotten deeper. It wasn't deep but it wasn't high either, Just the right tone that Basil had assumed from when they were younger he would get. He was still soft-spoken spoken but he seemed happier.
God, the more he looked.
Aubrey came up and gave him a quick Hug “God took ya long enough, What took you so long?”
“Sorry, I got caught up with the project.” Sunny scratched his neck as he admitted slightly embarrassed.
God Sunny had Grown. He wasn't tall but not short. He was somewhere around 5 foot 10 to just about 6 feet. His style had developed too. He was wearing a Black long-sleeved Hoodie and torn jeans. He could see what appeared to be a black T-shirt underneath. Basil felt like he could stare forever and not get tired. Was that weird? Definitely, Okay he should stop starring. Basil shut his eyes and finally opened the doorway and entered the Living room.
As he did he saw Kel turn Around and a smile spread, “Oh sunny Look who we got to come.”
Sunny looked over and froze as he saw Basil, Basil froze too as their eyes met each other.
Basil felt like he was under a microscope but he didn't mind cause it was Sunny's eyes on him.
“Hi, Sunny.” Basil felt a genuine smile spread.

Chapter Text
It had already been a long day cooped up in his room and the day seemed like it would only feel longer now that he was making his way to his car.
Sunny had woken up at six in the morning which was already rare, with him being more of a sleep-in type, but he had also spent half the day working on his upcoming art projects. He had been working on them for quite some time and thankfully they had been coming along quite well.
The assignment was a Six-piece project of connected portraits. For this, he decided to take inspiration from his mind and old friend. The art project concerned everyone in his childhood group and their respective flowers. Aubrey had her gladiolus, Kel with his cactus, Hero and his roses, Mari with lilies of the valley, himself with white tulips, and Basil with sunflowers.
He had finished each of them and had completed his own, Now working on Basil’s. He had a rough idea of what he wanted and had mostly completed the sketch but his idea lacked in one glaring way compared to the others. Each was based on his friends as they were with the colors of his old headspace, excluding only Mari who was in a muted grey and looked as she did in the photo album.
But Basil was a Challenge. He hadn't seen the blonde in over three years and it pained him to think about that. From what he heard from his friends they had taken a year to gather themselves and try to reach out. That's how he had come back to them.
Hero was first to reach out then Kel and Aubrey. It had taken a while to feel normal with them again but things moved along nicely within the first year. They slowly went back to normal, Then they grew.
Once they had graduated he announced that he had enrolled in the college closest to his new home, after the fact Aubrey announced that she was also enrolling there to get away from home. Kel on the other hand decided that he would take a Gap year to try and gather extra money and to get time off school.
But during all of this one question rang in Sunny's mind. Where was Basil? What was that blonde up to?
He had asked the others what had happened to him during the first year and they said that they had no clue. They had tried and failed to reach him many times, When Polly worked there she would answer the door and report that Basil just needed his time and was okay but once she left no one answered the door. They had tried for months but got nothing.
That worried Sunny, He knew all too well what Basil could be up to and desperately wanted something different for the boy. So it was today that he decided to try and reach out to the blonde.
He would finally get the nerve to knock on his door like Kel did for him. He had to at least try and get him out.
During the drive, Basil was all he could think about. What did he look like now?
Would he be in the same condition that he had been in?
What would he do if he didn't answer?
What would he do if he did?
Basil always seemed to hold a spot on Sunny's mind, even after telling the truth and leaving Basil seemed to haunt his dreams. A constant was it would revolve around him and Basil, whether it be in a field of flowers, in a library, or in one of their homes the dreams were always the same. The two would sit together and share their thoughts, Their dreams, and their wants.
Sunny was a naturally closed-off person but with Basil, he was always open.
But recently his dreams had taken a more romantic turn, One which made more sense than what he previously believed his dreams meant.
He had convinced himself that his dreams were merely because he missed his best friend dearly. But as time went on and in his dreams Basil and he got closer and closer he slowly dawned on the idea that he wouldn't mind a life with Basil.
It made more sense the more he thought about it too. But it also Horrified him.
He was oblivious to the fact now that he was at the least Crushing on his best friend, and at worst in love with his accomplice to a crime that had practically ruined both their and their friend's lives for some time.
Not only that, he was now on his way to knock on his door and practically beg him to come out and spend the day with him and his friends, people that he hadn't even spoken with for three years.
God, this was going to go horribly, wasn't it? Sunny gripped the steering wheel and felt anxious. What was he going to do if Basil didn't answer?
Worse, what was he going to do if Basil turned him down?
The idea hadn't crossed his mind yet, what if Basil just refused to go? The idea of Basil refusing the proposition and just slamming the door in his face made Sunny feel weak to his stomach.
Fuck, He hadn't seen him for 3 years, Whos to say Basil even thinks of him anymore, or worse what if Basil hates him?
He had promised him that he would try to be better, he had proved as much in that room 3 years ago. He had a permanent reminder of that now.
His right eye was partially blind and easily agitated, because of that he normally wore an eye patch, but in dark rooms and low lighting he could remove it and it wouldn't hurt all too much. It was still hard to see much of anything from that eye even in the right conditions, But he didn't all too much mind it. To Him, it was better than the alternative of having the eye scooped out, Something that he vehemently fought against having happened.
Despite that he didn't mind it, he had sacrificed his eye to save Basil that night, something he didn't regret at all.
He only hoped Basil would feel the same. So he knew that he would be making a detour. He would of course make it to Hero and Kels house, but he needed to do this. He needed to try.
So he turned down the respective roads and slowly approached Basil’s home. As he stopped and looked out the window he felt worried, he did hope that Basil would accept his invitation, Maybe they could talk about their futures, and maybe Basil would be open to making a future with him.
As he put his hand on the Car door to get out his phone started ringing, looking at the Caller ID it was Aubrey, confused he decided to answer.
“Hello?”
“Hey, you Fuck, Where are you!?” Aubrey loudly blared out of his speaker.
“Sorry Aubrey, I got sidetracked.”
“What the Hell do you mean You got sidetracked?”
“I had something I needed to check on, Don't worry I’ll be there.”
“Well okay as long as you get here, How far out are you?”
“I'm only a few minutes away.”
“Thank Christ, I don't think we could stop Kel if you were any farther.”
Sunny chuckled at that, “I would have figured, Don't worry though I'll be there soon. I just needed to take a detour.”
“What do you mean you're going to take a detour?”
“I just needed to check on something before I got there, It's not out of the way and Important, trust me.”
“Where the hell could you need to go in Faraway that's more important than here huh?”
Sunny Sighed and took a second, “I uh... I was gonna try and see Basil, I just… I wanted to try and see him, It's been so long and I wanted to try and at least see him before Kel moved out and we all left Faraway for good you know. But don't worry I'll make sure to be there soon, I'll maybe even get him to come along if I can.”
After that It went quiet, He took time to ready himself to see Basil when Aubrey spoke finally.
“Oh, that makes sense. But don't worry that's already settled.”
“What do you mean? Did he already turn you guys down?” Worry was etched into his voice.
“No you dork I don't mean like that, He’s here with us.”
“Really?”
“Do you think I would lie about that here let me prove it.”
After that, he could hear shuffling then a voice he hadn't heard in a long time.
“A-AUBREY H-HEY!”
“There hear that he’s here, SO hurry your ass up.” She laughed as she hung up on him.
Sunny looked at his phone screen in silence as he knew that Basil was there. But it also raised many other questions that he doesn't know if he's ready for the answers to.
So quickly he turned his car back on and buckled up. He would get to Hero and Kel’s house and finally see him, He would finally see Basil.
After the short drive to Hero and Kel’s house, he pulled into the driveway. He noticed Aubrey and Hero’s cars in the driveway and he felt antsy.
He got out of his car and gave himself a minute to breathe and get ready for this.
What did Basil look like? It had been so long that he had to have changed. Even over the phone, he could tell that it was Basil’s voice. It was a little bit deeper than he remembered but still relatively high-pitched, Just like he remembered.
As he knocked he heard shuffling as someone approached the door.
Sunny Calmed down and held his ground.
Hero opened the door, “Sunny good to see you, come on in.” Hero gave him a quick hug as he entered and as he looked around the first thing he noticed was Kel who was currently charging towards him. In a swift motion, He was picked up into a rib-crushing hug.
“SUNNY! It's been too long bro.” Kel held Sunny a full foot off the ground as he gave him puppy dog eyes.
“Kel, Okay okay, let me down now you're gonna crush me haha” He let out a choked laugh as Kel finally let him down and patted his back.
Aubrey came up and gave him a quick Hug “God took ya long enough, What took you so long?” She stood looking at him slightly annoyed.
“Sorry, I got caught up with the project.” He scratched his neck as he admitted slightly embarrassed. He hadn't meant to get so sidetracked but it was just a hard habit to break.
As he straightened out his shirt Kel Jumped up practically beaming, “OH Sunny look who got to come.”
As Sunny looked up he was met with the sight of Basil.
He was right, Basil had changed. He was taller now, around 6 feet. His style seemed to stay the same though, He was dressed in a hazel green long-sleeve knit sweater with brown jeans. His hair had grown out much more too. It looked like he could probably attempt a ponytail if he tried. Its color was darker now, Less golden yellow and more of a brown blonde, That he didn't mind though, it went with his style. The one thing that had stayed almost completely the same were his eyes, Basil’s piercing bright blue eyes. They were as beautiful as ever, Shining in the house lights.
Wait did he just think Beautiful? Okay no that's a thought to contemplate later, Basil is here, right now, in front of him. God, he is just staring at him now. He should probably say something.
As Sunny tried to think of something, or anything, to say Basil beat him to it.
“Hi, Sunny.” Basil was looking at him with a warm smile. It was nowhere near as massive as Kels, as charming as Hero's, or as bright as Aubrey's. But it was so distinctly Basil.
Sunny felt a smile spread just seeing that smile, he felt his eyes water up a little bit at the now fidgeting blonde. It had been so long since he had seen Basil.
But here he is standing in front of him.
And Sunny couldn't be any happier.

Chapter Text
Goodness.
All Basil could do was stare at him. At Sunny.
It had been over three years since he had last seen Sunny, and nearly five years since they had even been friends. Hell, the last time Basil was with Sunny he had nearly stabbed out his eye, and after that Sunny had told their friends that the two were the cause of Mari's death.
It had been a long time since Basil had seen Sunny. But Basil was still happy to see him. Or at least he wanted to be happy. He was desperate to feel it.
But looking at this now much older Sunny all Basil could see was that backyard, that photo album, those shears. All Basil could see was the hurt that he had done to Sunny.
He felt miserable looking at him now. That black eye patch covering his right eye was almost mocking Basil.
Sunny just stared back and gave Basil a wave and a smile.
Basil almost expected some massive overreaction. Maybe if Sunny started crying? Sunny running up and hugging him?
But nothing happened.
After Sunny came in, they all returned to the dining room to eat.
Kel and Sunny talked on and on about some new series the two had found interesting, Something about a Guy with a Blindfold and Blue eyes, Basil couldn't care to give too much attention to it.
On the other side of the table, Aubrey and Hero talked about how school was going and their relationships.
Now and again someone would glance at Basil or ask a spare question but Basil still couldn't care too much to join any conversations.
His mind was far too preoccupied with his thoughts to give much contribution on any topic.
He was confused as to why he wasn't happier to see Sunny. That warm Bubble that he would get from his dreams or long nights thinking of Sunny was gone. Basil felt happy to see him for that split moment when they made eye contact but after that, it was something Basil couldn't point out.
He of course still thought of the hurt he had caused Sunny, It was hard not to. The Guilt from everything burning against his neck.
But there was something else he was feeling. Every time he looked up and saw Sunny smile and ramble with Kel, or laugh at Aubrey's snide remakes, or scoff at Hero’s dad jokes he felt something Burn in him.
Over the whole dinner, Basil tried to find out what was doing this but the more he thought the more aggravated he felt. Seeing Sunny smile so much and laugh so much was supposed to be nice.
Sunny had always been such a shy kid and so closed off but now he was Bubbly and passionately talking about everything he was doing.
Basil was now the closed-off one, hardly giving a full sentence to everyone's questions.
He should be happy. But he isn't. The more he thought about it the worse he felt. He should feel happy and proud that Sunny had grown and healed past everything. But he wasn't.
The more Basil searched the worse he felt. Suddenly it all fell into place. He wasn't Happy to see Sunny like this, happy, because Sunny had grown. Sunny had grown past everything that happened to him, everything Basil had done to him, He grew past the things that their friends had come to think of them, Sunny became a better person, But he did it alone.
He did it alone . . . . . because he left Basil behind again.
That promise alone in Sunny's room, The same promise made the night of their fight and once again in that Hospital room.
Sunny did all the things they should have done together alone because he left Basil again.
Basil wasn't happy for Sunny because he was mad. He was angry with Sunny.
He hated that he and Sunny had seemingly swapped roles. While Sunny lived his life and grew Basil was forced to stay back and rot once again.
All Sunny did was leave Basil behind again. But what made Basil even more livid at it was so simple but hurt so much.
Sunny Grew and healed because he was away from Basil.
Sunny accomplished all of that alone. From the looks of things he probably had help from his friends too.
His friends.
Not their friends, because they didn't need Basil.
The more Basil thought the more the anger melted away to show the core of what was hurting him. The sadness of it.
It hurt because they didn't need Basil.
Basil almost felt his eyes water when he sat up and turned.
“You alright Basil?” Aubrey had turned to look at him. Hero also glanced over, both wearing a mask of worry.
“Y-Yea just uh... Just need to use the restroom, too much water.” Basil didn't turn around as he made his way to the bathroom.
Locking the door behind him he walked to the mirror and held onto the sink. He looked into the mirror and watched as tears slowly rolled down his cheeks.
His Hiccups and sniffles were silent and controlled.
His knuckles went white as he gripped the porcelain sink.
Slowly Basil removed his hands from the sink and slid down to the floor, hiding his head behind his legs.
Basil felt his nails dig into his palms and his crying increased.
He felt pathetic. Crying at this.
It was something he had told himself over and over for years, yet seeing it hurt more than anything.
So Basil let himself sit there and cry.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
As Sunny watched Basil leave he felt worry in his chest. Basil hadn't said much throughout the dinner and no one seemed to pay much mind to it.
But Sunny did. He wanted to go and see what was wrong but didn't know what to say to him.
What if he went and Basil did just need to pee?
What if he did need help though? Would Sunny even be able to do anything? He hadn't seen Basil for years so who's to say he could even help him?
After a few more minutes he decided to check.
“OH OH, And when he Shot off Red and threw Suku-” Kel looked up as Sunny stood “Oh heading to the bathroom?”
Sunny nodded, “Yeah bit too much soda, I'll be right back though.” Sunny turned and made his way through the living room and up the stairs.
When he got to the bathroom door he didn't hear much. It had been more than a few minutes so the likelihood Basil was still just peeing had to be practically zero.
When Sunny approached he was silent with his steps and slowly pressed his ear against the door.
When he did it was almost completely silent. Before he pulled away though he heard something.
Pressing his ear closer he heard it again, a hiccup, then a sniffle
Was. . . . . Was Basil crying?
Sunny's first instinct was to reach for the doorknob but he stopped.
He had done this once before, But last time he had just left Basil alone there.
What should he do now?
He wanted to help him but who's to say he even wanted His help?
So Sunny paused. Then decided to go with his Gut.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Basil Yelped and nearly jumped out of his skin at the knock.
It wasn't particularly loud but it still surprised him.
“Y-Yes?” Basil croaked out trying to hide the shakiness of his voice.
“Just wanted to check on you Bas, You okay in there?” Sunny's voice was on the other side. His voice was calm and steady.
Basil paused for a moment. Why was Sunny knocking? Oh, he probably had to use the restroom Basil though.
Slowly Basil sat up and looked in the mirror. His face was red and his hair was messy.
“Y-Yea just uh, Sorry for taking s-so long I’ll just be a minute longer,” Basil spoke slowly to make sure his voice was steady. Reached over and grabbed a towel to help wash his face.
“Oh it's alright, Just wanted to check on you. We're all gonna watch a movie in a bit if you'd like to join us.”
“Yeah s-sure,” Basil spoke over the faucet and slowly wiped his face. It would take a minute to be slow but it would be sure to remove the redness and tear stains.
He just needed to suck it up for a little bit longer.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Sunny felt a little accomplished having spoken to Basil.
He could hear it in his voice though Basil wasn't doing all too well. Basil always had been such an open book.
He could hear it even without seeing Basil's face. He had been crying.
But why was he hiding it?
Weren't they close enough to let each other in?
No matter, He would try to talk with him later tonight. Hopefully, if everything goes well they can try and meet up again. The thought of it made Sunny smile to himself.
Once back in the Dining room, he convinced everyone to watch a movie, deciding to leave it up to Aubrey and Kel to find something knowing that it would help keep them busy as they wait for Basil.
Hero got situated on a recliner as Aubrey and Kel both sat on the floor by the TV arguing all the while on what was superior, Romance or Action.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
After finally cleaning his face to a reasonable degree Basil cleaned the bathroom of any evidence and made his way back downstairs.
Once entering the living room he found everyone sitting around watching what appeared to be one of the old Sweetheart movies. The nostalgia of which brings a small smile to his face.
When Basil looked over the living room he found Sunny looking back at him patting the spot on the couch next to him.
With some reluctance, Basil agreed and sat next to him to watch the movie.
Basil had hoped that Sunny wouldn't try to talk with him since Basil was in no mood to do such.
But after some time Basil started to steal glances at Sunny.
When he realized something, He was sitting on Sunny's right. Sunny couldn't even see him if he wanted.
That helped pull the smile off Basil's face.
That's when Basil decided to make a mental check to try and avoid looking at Sunny.
All it did was make his gut stir with uncomfortable memories. He couldn't even tell what he was feeling looking at him either. He felt his anger at Sunny of course. But he also felt a sense of nostalgia, a strange happiness seeing him. But there was something else burning deep in his gut. Something he couldn't put his finger on.
Basil hasn't been paying attention to the movie nor was he paying attention to Aubrey and Kels bickering but was snapped out by Sunny's voice.
“Honestly I disagree.” Sunny’s voice was low.
“What?” Basil kept his eyes on the screen.
“What they were arguing on, I agree with Aubrey.”
“On what?” Basil was quite lost on what Sunny was trying to say.
“Have you not been listening?” Sunny chuckled at that, still keeping his voice low to avoid entering the others' heated debate.
“Oh uhm n-no, sorry.” Basil felt a little embarrassed at being called out.
“Well, It's about the Sweetheart movie. Suppose two people who share a lot of pain can still be around each other. Kel says that they should try to avoid each other or just stay friends, But Aubrey says that they should still follow their hearts and try to grow past it.” Sunny spoke with a strange amount of interest in the topic.
It made Basil pause for a moment. That was a good question. “Uhm I would say it depends on the History the two share. If it's a bit too negative then it might be best to keep your distance.”
“I guess but the two love each other, they both did everything they did out of love. Who's to say that they can try again?” Sunny seemed quite adamant about this. Basil wasn't sure why though.
“But think about it, If they have such a complicated story, who's to say it won't get more complicated by throwing love in there? Maybe staying apart is their only way to avoid getting hurt anymore.” Basil was confused but decided to stay adamant about this. It was at least more interesting than the cheesy love movie that was still on in the background.
“But what if they both want to start a complicated story despite it all?” Sunny was now looking at Basil.
“B-But what if they both still get hurt? It's irresponsible.” Basil felt a weird heat creep up his face.
“Sometimes Love is irresponsible, Plus no one can tell the future so who's to say that it will end up negative?” Sunny kept his eyes on Basil while Basil was desperate to keep his eyes on the screen.
“W-Well it's just ugh. . . . '' Basil wasn't sure why Sunny was being so persistent about this.
After that Sunny seemed to accept that victory and gave Basil a smug smile. They both went quiet and went back to watching the movie.
When the Movie finally ended Kel bounced up Rushing to the bathroom yelling that he had held it the whole time.
Hero returned to the kitchen to get everybody refills, Leaving Aubrey, Sunny, and Basil in the living room.
“So you gonna stay for the night?” Aubrey was looking at Sunny as he turned to face her.
“Uhm I guess so, I don't have much to do back in the city, what about you?”
“Eh, yeah, Not much to do for me either, Plus Kim is out for some family business for a while.”
Aubrey laid back on the carpet and stretched her arms.
“What about you Basil?” She leaned her head over to look at him.
“Oh uh uhm I guess so I don't do all that much these days.” Basil was looking down at his hands fidgeting.
“Nice, Hey that means we can have a good old-fashioned sleepover like back in the day.” Aubrey sat up quickly and turned to go to the kitchen “ I'll go see if the hero has any spare booze.”
And with that, she was off to the kitchen leaving Sunny and Basil once again alone together.
“So uh, How are you feeling?’ Sunny was looking at Basil but seemed nervous.
“Uhm, fine I guess, why?” Basil didn't look up as he continued to scratch at his nails.
“It's just that you were in the bathroom for a while, just wanted to make sure you were fine.” Basil looked up for a moment and Sunny was staring directly at him almost like he was testing him and expecting an answer.
“Oh y-yea I'm fine, just a little bit of a stomach ache.” Basil chuckled then quickly brought his eyes back down to avoid looking Sunny in the eye.
In the corner of his eye though he could see Sunny’s expression seem more disappointed as he looked down at his own hands. What was that all about? Had Sunny heard him in the bathroom?
As the two sank into the now uncomfortable silence they were both surprised by Kel jumping into the room.
“Alright, Guys let's get this sleepover started!” Kel ran over jumping onto the couch next to Sunny wrapping an arm around him.
God this night was going to be a long one.

Chapter Text
The Night was going well, or at least as well as it could be for Basil.
The 5 of them had watched the full original Trilogy of Space Boy films, during which Kel and Sunny had paused to make multiple notes and references, After that they binged multiple TV shows and even played a few board games.
During this Basil had successfully kept his distance from Sunny. That bubbling feeling hadn't gone away. Basil was still feeling toxic with these ideas. He truly had no right to be mad at Sunny for healing, yet it still hurt. It hurt horribly. That feeling that he didn't matter to Sunny as much as Sunny did to him. He had dreams of him so many times, Basil wanted a life with sunny horribly, and yet the idea of something like that happening felt wrong. Like imagining himself committing an unspeakable crime.
That's what it was too. It would be wrong, Sunny was his accomplice. He had helped Sunny hide a murder for 4 long and horrific years. Not only that he had also nearly gouged out the boy's eye. So yes, Basil felt it would be wrong to still want to chase those emotions.
But Sunny just had to make it this difficult. Every few minutes he was making eye contact with Him, going out of his way to make their hands brush together, telling jokes to make Basil laugh, trying to get more into Basil's bubble. It felt so wrong to let him do this. Basil should say something or show signs but he couldn't. Because as much as he knew it was wrong, He enjoyed it. But that was wrong and he knew it. So he decided to ignore it all, that fluttering in his heart every time their hands touched and their eyes met, the heat that would creep up his body as he stuttered trying to speak feeling Sunny gaze on him, but most importantly he tried to ignore the growing irritation every time Sunny looked at him when the others spoke of their times together without Basil.
The look of . . . Pity?
No, it looked like Sunny felt shame sharing these stories. The irritation would build when Sunny would desperately try to change the subject each time. Did he think Basil was too weak to hear it? Basil was many things But he was tired of being seen as weak. Especially by Sunny. For so long he waited and waited for Sunny to save him, But each time he was too late. He only saved Basil once, But Basil had put his neck on the line more times than he could count for Sunny. Every time Aubrey and the Gang Beat on him and screamed and laughed, Every time Kel tried to open up to him and to understand why Basil was regressing and pulling away when ever Hero would visit and try to reach out to Basil, try to talk to him about Mari and Sunny. Each time Basil had to see their faces when he ran away from them all. He had to watch all that time just waiting for Sunny to come back, for him to tell the truth. But when He finally did, he did it while Basil wasn't even awake for it, Even worse he left right after.
He told the truth and then disappeared. Basil was so afraid of everyone that he shut himself away, He thought Kel would Beat him, Hero would scream and throw things, and Basil was afraid that Aubrey would Kill him. So he hid away for as long as he could and he almost got away with disappearing for good, But here he is.
As the night dragged on Basil felt his emotions shift. The fluttering and the heat slowly left him. Now the growing anger was taking over. So to placate this and stop anything from happening he tuned Sunny out. Basil felt bad at first seeing Sunny's face fall ever so slightly as Basil turned away and quickly retracted his hand more and more. But this was important, Basil needed to set this boundary. They needed to stay apart. Especially with Basil leaving soon he wanted to make a clear border.
Eventually, Kel had seemingly passed out on the rug after saying he would rest his eyes which resulted in him snoring in only 5 seconds. Next was Aubrey who started to nod off and excused herself up to Hero and Kel's bedroom where she fell asleep after that Basil chose to help Hero clean the kitchen to avoid sitting alone with Sunny.
As Basil carried the last of the dishes to the now full sink Hero started washing.
“I just wanted to thank you for coming tonight, Basil.” At first, Basil nearly jumped out of his skin being startled.
“Wh-What?” Basil turned around to look at Hero who continued washing dishes.
“I spoke with Kel some more, Aubrey too, They both said that they fell out of contact with you quickly after... After that day. I don't blame them either since I also never reached out to you” Hero paused for a second and turned off the sink, “I just... I'm sorry for not reaching out sooner, I am Basil, and I want us all to try and be close,” Hero turned around to look at Basil, “ I don't know what you've been up to for the past 3 years, But I want you to know that I'm here for you, we all are okay basil.” Hero looked at Basil with what seemed to be an Honest Smile.
It was so heartfelt. Yet all Basil could feel was awkwardness. Why hadn't Hero ever come to him before? Why wait after 3 years to finally give him this roundabout way of ‘I forgive you’?
With a heavy sigh, Basl turned away “Don't worry too much Hero I wasn't in a great place either and, honestly, I wouldn't have even responded.”
Hero Looked solemn after that as he turned “Oh uhm well, I uh, I hope that we could try to build things back again.”
“Like you guys did with Sunny?” Basil Bit back, Far too much venom in his voice than he intended.
“Y-Yea, I uhm. . . “ Hero scratched at his neck.
“I'm sorry that was uncalled for.” Basil bit the inside of his cheek as he saw Hero walk towards the door.
“No it's alright, I understand why you would be tense, let's uh, let's talk in the morning. Alright?” Hero looked at Basil and Basil let out a sigh as he nodded. “Alright, well good night Basil.”
As Hero walked through the living room Basil could hear him tell Sunny good night as he went up the stairs.
Now all Basil had to do was make it through the night sharing the living room with Sunny.
What could go wrong?
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sunny wasn't an Idiot. Okay maybe he did have trouble with ‘Social’ things but he was by no means an idiot, or at least that's what he would insist upon.
So when he saw how Basil was pulling away suddenly he knew something was wrong. When he was younger he could read Basil like a book, most times it wasn't even needed. He knew Basil so well that he could know just by looking because he had already read through that ‘Book’ over and over before.
But now he didn't know what could be bothering Basil. It was something new to Sunny but something he felt he should have expected. They hadn't been friends for over 7 years.
But he could tell something was bothering him, The quick and forced smiles and laughs, The way he would quickly divert any attention put his way, The way he dodged any personal questions, Basil was hiding something. It was obvious. He was uncomfortable and trying to hide something.
So Sunny wanted to get to the bottom of it. He tried to make a bridge with basil but at every turn, he was shut down. But now with everyone finally going to sleep, that means it would just be him and Basil. He could finally try and talk to him, as much as he was effectively cornering the boy he knew it was for the greater good. He would get Basil to open up to him.
What's the worst that could happen?
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This might have been the worst night Basil has had in a long time.
Sitting back down in the living room Sunny went to put on some old cheesy romance movie but didn't leave it at that and slowly started to try and pry.
It started with every few minutes trying to ask a question that Basil would deflect or just ignore. But then Sunny started to just talk. He just talked about his life. As if He and Basil were good friends who were catching up over lunch.
It was stupid but hearing Sunny talk about how the past 3 years had been extremely kind to him made Basil seethe. Hearing him describe finishing up his schooling and applying for college. How he was doing amazing in his life made Basil feel like it was the most unfair thing in the world.
Sunny was allowed to move on and grow but Basil wasn't. That’s how things always seemed. But now Basil had proof of that hearing Sunny talk about his now thriving life.
But that was before things got much worse.
The room was dark save for the Lamp and TV making a warm orange light that draped over the room. So Basil noticed movement and despite his better judgment turned to see what Sunny was doing.
He took off his Eye patch.
There was a scar that went through the center of his eye moving up just above his eyebrow and just under his eye socket. The scar was a darker color than the rest of his skin but his eye was . . . It was just grey.
The iris itself looked almost shattered—that dead, sickly, grey color.
Basil was frozen staring at it. Sunny soon noticed and looked up to Basil meeting his stare.
The room was dead silent apart from the movie running its credits.
“I uh... I can still see you.” Sunny said pointing to his damaged eye. “It's uhm It's fine now, it works fine in darker settings and stuff just when it's bright it gets all blurry and irritated.” Sunny’s eyes were still glued to Basil's face. “I . . . . I don't blame you for it you know.”
That causes Basil to stir, irritation growing, “What?” His voice was laced with Venom.
“I uhm. . . I don't blame you for it, I was, It was a bad night altogether, You didn't know what you were doing. I forgive you for it.” Sunny paused taking a deep breath, “I never blamed you, Honestly I forgave you the second I woke up.”
Basil just stared at him. “I nearly ripped out your eye and you ‘Forgive’ me?” Basil was starting to get mad now. How could Sunny just forgive him? He had damaged Sunny for life, but here he was trying to get sappy.
“I mean yeah, I … I know what you were going to do that night, I would have given up an arm or both my eyes to stop that.” Sunny looked up at Basil with a smile smile.
“Do you think you're showing up stopped me?” Basil felt all that anger that built crawl up his throat.
“What.” Sunny looked at him confused.
“Your showing up didn't stop me, Sunny, all it did was get the others to wake up, plus seeing the fact that I had gouged your eye and you were out on the floor not moving. Yeah, Yeah that didn't magically stop me.” Basil felt vicious as the words left his mouth “Why do you think I was in the hospital longer than you were huh?”
“I... I didn't know that I thought it was for the fight.”Sunny's face looked like it had plummeted over 20 stories.
“Jesus you Stupid Sunny. Don't get me wrong for a malnourished kid you beat the hell out of me, You even fractured my arm, But that wasn't why I was in there, I mean internal bleeding is a bitch, Funny enough a Stomach wound doesn't kill quickly and recovers slower than any other injury.” Basil was standing now staring down at the sitting Sunny.
“I... I di-didn't know” Sunny's voice was low.
“Of course you didn't Sunny, Hell you left what? A week after telling the truth?” Basil was now standing in front of Sunny.
“I- That wasn't my choice though, I couldn't stay.” Sunny stood up to meet Basil's gaze with his own.
“Oh, so that stopped you from ever trying to reach out? But it didn't since you chose to make buddies with all the others.” Basil was scowling at Sunny with a burning white rage.
“They said they never heard from you so I- I thought you needed space.” Sunny was sounding like he was pleading at this point and Basil felt a small victory in that.
“BECAUSE I WAS SCARED YOU COLOSUL DUMBASS!!!” Basil Yelled at Sunny throwing his arms into the air.
Sunny started at Basil with a shocked face “What do you mean-” But was cut off.
“There's no way you this stupid, Sunny the last time I saw Kel he treated me like I was a criminal through glass, I saw Hero outside the door glaring at me, Kel and Hero hated me and only spoke to me to make sure you told the truth to them, Which seems like you had still lied when telling them,”
Sunnys face paled a little “, But that was the easy part, I was still mortified of Aubrey, FUCK SHE BULLIED ME FOR FOUR YEARS SUNNY, OVER A FUCKING PHOTO ALBUM!!” Basil shoved Sunny back “Imagine that for me Sunny will you? Four years of being beaten up, Shoved into the street, Having my money taken and thrown back at me, Imagine being bullied for four years by a gang of kids, over a photo album, THAT YOU DIDN'T EVEN DAMAGE! I want you to imagine that for me.”
Basil shoved Sunny back again, “Now imagine that same Girl who made it all happen finds out you HUNG WHAT WAS ESSENTIALLY HER FUCKING BIG SISTER!!!”
Basil shoved Sunny again which caused him to fall back onto the couch. “I WAS FUCKING MORTIFIED TO LEAVE MY HOME SUNNY, EVERY TIME THEY KNOCKED I ONLY HAD POLLY TO DEFEND ME!!! THEN IT WAS JUST ME HIDING AWAY!!!”
Basil was pacing back and forth as Sunny stared at him.
“You fucking left me again Sunny, After everything you left me again, and now you're here acting like we're still friends.” Basil stopped and stared at Sunny but noticed Sunny's eyes weren't on him anymore. Sunny eyes were staring down at Basil's stomach.
“WHAT!” Basil shouted at Sunny as Sunny flinched now looking up to meet Basil's eyes.
“I- . . . I just wanted to try and save you.” Sunny sounded like he was going to cry as his eyes drifted back down to Basil's stomach.
“Well congratulations Sunny, You did then just threw me right back into the fucking Pit. You left and healed, But you left me all alone again.” Basil stated at the now defeated Sunny.
“Please Basil let me try to fix it, I promise-” Sunny was pleading but was quickly cut off.
“Oh let me guess ‘I promise to stay together no matter what’, You've made that promise 2 times already Sunny, I sacrificed so much to keep you safe and you broke the easiest promise 2 separate times. ”Basil looked at Sunny, “So no, I don't accept your promise.”
Sunny let his eyes fall to the floor as the room went dead silent.
“I’m sorry.” Sunny's voice was nearly silent but Basil still heard him.
Basil scoffed “You’re sorry? Congratulations, here's your medal Sunny,” Basil bent down so his face was near Sunny’s “You fucking broke me, Sunny, for four years I waited then you finally came back just to have Kel announce that you were leaving again for good. Then you go ahead and get in the way of me finally trying to do something for once, right after which you decided to tell everyone the truth, Which you still lied while doing, AFTER WHICH YOU JUST LEFT AGAIN WITHOUT A WORD TO ME!” Basil was yelling At Sunny as the boy was sitting staring at the floor. “So sorry that I seem ‘Off’ Sunny, It's because I was surrounded by people who I assumed hated me, someone I thought wanted to kill me, AND THE ROOT OF IT ALL WAS YOU!” Basil jutted a finger into Sunny's chest.
The room was dead silent after that.
“I just want us to be close again Basil, I'm so sorry, more than you could ever know, about all of it, everything that happened between us and the others.” Sunny looked up at Basil, “ I miss you, I have for so so long, I think of you all the time, the impact you had on me and my life is . . . I wouldn't be who I am today without you, Please just give me another chance Basil please, I want to help you.”
Basil Scoffed at that, “After 3 years of silence you want me to trust you again, You want to help me, Sunny? Just Leave me alone.” The words felt like they burned as they came out. Seeing Sunny's face fall and his eyes water made Basil's heart shatter. “Just . . . . . Leave me alone Sunny please, for both of us, I don't think I can handle you breaking my heart again.”
Basil felt his eyes start to water as he desperately started to wipe them.
The room was now filled with the soft noise of the two boys' sniffles.
Eventually, Basil stood up “I . . sniff I Need to go.” Basil turned and made his way to the door.
“B-Basil please wait.” He could hear Sunny getting up but Basil didn't waver, If he did then he wouldn't have the will to leave at all. So as much as it shattered his heart to do so he opened the front door, Slamming it behind him.
It was late, Nearly 4 in the morning but He needed to get out of here.
This was all a bad idea, But at least now he could tell himself he had closure, as much as it hurt.
Making it back to his house he went ahead and packed the last of his things.
Setting the boxes into the living room he made a second then third round through the house making sure he had everything.
It would take trying his best to get Polly to pity him but He knew she worked the night shift so she would be awake.
After he had everything set at the front he finally called Polly.
“Uhm Hello?”
“H-Hey Polly it's... It's Basil.”
“Oh uhm one second Hun . . . .,” The line went quiet as there were whispers in the back, “ Sorry about that, Hey Basil how have you been?”
“I uhm I’m okay I wanted to ask when you get off?” Basil started to chew on his lip, If this didn't work then he was going to be screwed.
“Oh I get off in about 30 minutes, Why do you ask?”
“I uh I was wondering if you could pick me up, I packed everything up and I think it's time.” The line was silent and Basil feared she would reject him.
“Oh of course Hun, I'll make sure to stop right by when my shift is over, The spare room at my home is still clean so we can get you in before the sun rises.” Polly's voice was laced with so much joy that Basil could feel his gloom lift ever so slightly.
“Thank you so much, Polly.” Basil felt like he could cry again.
“Of course Honey, I have to get going now but I'll see you once my shift is over okay?”
“Okay Polly, I -... I love you.”
“Oh Basil, I love you too hun.”
With a click, Polly hung up and Basil sat back. With a long sigh. Draping an arm over his eyes as he let himself unravel.
Sitting alone Basil cried.
He regretted what he said to Sunny. But it was needed. If he hadn't pushed him away then he would have never gotten away from him. But it still hurt, even after all this time seeing Sunny's face fall, seeing his tears, hearing him cry, it all shattered his heart.
So Basil sat and waited for Polly to arrive.
When she finally did Basil nearly yelped at the knock on the door.
When He let her in she paused to look at him, But instead of saying anything she just smiled softly pulling Basil into a tight hug.
As they Hugged Basil felt himself start to cry once again. He tried to pull away to wipe his eyes but Polly kept her grip.
“It's okay Hun, Just let it all out. ”Polly's grip on him tightened as she traced circles on his back.
Basil Held Polly as he trembled and let himself cry into her shoulder.
He regretted never letting himself get this close to her before. She had always looked for what was best for him and always tried to let him be comfortable. But he never let himself open up to her before. But he felt safe in her arms so he let himself open now. After years of silence, he finally let Polly hear him cry.
After some time Basil finally calmed down and Polly let him go, Together in a comfortable silence they gathered his things and moved them into her truck.
Once things were packed in and tied down Basil went in to retrieve the sign that was meant to be put up months ago but he would do now.
Walking into the front yard Basil planted the FOR SALE sign. Once he finished gathering every loose item and pot he Packed them into the back seat. Once he finished he sat into the passenger seat.
Polly started the Truck reaching into a bag and pulling out a small bottle of apple juice and a bag of Gummy Bears, “Sorry, It's been a while, I hope you still like the Strawberry ones.” Polly handed the snacks to Basil who took them.
“Y-Yea, Thank you.” Basil opened the bag and ate a few, The sugary strawberry taste calmed him down.
The Drive back to Polly's house was quiet as Basil snacked on the items Polly gave him.
Once they arrived Polly Helped Basil carry all his boxes in. As they did Basil noticed all the photos of Polly and what seemed to be her Husband. Basil was initially confused but quickly remembered that he didn't know Polly that well. It made sense he didn't know these things.
Once they finished moving all the boxes into Basil's new room Polly sat him down in the small dining room.
“Listen, Basil, You don't need to tell me why you decided to finally take the jump but I just want you to understand that I'm here for you okay, I want you to feel safe with me. ”Polly moved her hand over to hold Basils.
Basil felt his voice tremble as he spoke “ Th-Thank you, Polly. It means a lot.” Basil took a deep breath, “I'm sorry for never trying to get to know you better, But I hope we can now.” Basil looked up from the table to meet Polly's gaze.
Her eyes softened, “It's okay Basil, I know you were going through a lot, But what's important is that you got through it, You made it to the other side and now you can keep moving, You can keep trying,” Polly's grip on Basil's hand tightened, “Know that I'm not just your old Caretaker, I practically raised you for almost 9 years, I see you like I would my son, know that that will never change Basil,” Polly's smile grew as she rubbed Basil's knuckles with her thumb, “I love you like my own Basil, Ill always be there to help you, no matter what.”
Basil felt his eyes grow wet as he walked around the table, Hugging Polly tightly.
Like she said, Things are tough But He did it, He got through them before and he can get through them again.
After their Hug Polly went to get some sleep as Basil unpacked. This was where he would stay till Early September. That's when College would start and he would get the Dorm that he was promised from his parents. He had just about 5 months to get himself situated. The college itself was only about an hour's drive from Polly's, He could always visit once things started up.
This was it, New City, New School, New life. Basil got his fresh start.
But he still ached. The way he left things off with everyone was . . . Less than stellar.
But that was in the past now.
They all have their own lives and Basil has his, so now he has to do what everyone does and live his life.
But Basil still wondered, What would he do if he ever saw them again? If he ever sees Sunny again?
Thankfully Basil shooed the thought away, He comforted his mind with the fact that, like he had said, it was a new city, A New life.
All Basil had to do now was make the most of his new start. Nothing would stop him from living his new life free from his past.
That's what he thought at least.

Chapter Text
Life has been Good.
Everything Is alright.
It had been a long time since Basil could say something like that.
He had been living with Polly for 4 months, and life was good. He had spoken with Polly and they got him a therapist and psychiatrist to talk to which had helped a whole lot for Basil.
Now on Medication for a lot of his worse thoughts and anxiety, he was able to push himself more. Which helped him start working.
Thankfully Polly knew a few other women, one of whom owned a flower shop that was just outside of the college, that he would start attending soon. He quickly jumped onto that offer and felt at home in the shop.
It was a small cottage-like building named ‘Flower Keep’. As far as Basil cared the place was perfect for him. It was an amazing place to work, A bonus was that the hours were flexible and his boss was close friends with Polly.
Over the last 4 months, Basil also got to meet Polly's husband, a man named Rico, despite Basil's worries he was extremely kind. He offered Basil to stay with them even through College since they were so close to the school to which Basil politely declined, explaining that his parents had already paid for one. Still, Rico told him that he and Polly's home would always be open to him.
Basil had fully expected him to be rude or distant but he was extremely kind, The type of person Basil would have expected Polly to chase after.
Much to Basil's surprise, he found out that Polly was Pregnant too. About a month on so far. After finding it out Polly had teased him about being the ‘Big brother’ to the baby which made him happy, His parents being so absent may have just made him desperate but he saw Polly as a mother now after all her help and Love.
So considering all things now Basil was happy. Life was good.
He repeated these to himself as he drove back from Therapy that day. It had been a good session overall. But his therapist had kept steering the questions to Sunny. What would you do if you met him again? Do you still have hate for him? Would trying to speak to him help? She kept bringing up getting “Closure” with him. But Basil got all he needed from that night at Kel and Hero's. He spoke his mind and he left, That ache in his heart was just him getting used to change. He didn't need Sunny anymore. He was okay with that.
But still, whenever Basil would fall asleep, in his dreams he imagined them all together. He still thought of Sunny. The Boy he did everything and suffered for. He realized that he sacrificed so much of his life for Sunny that now he was barely catching up. That's why he was so angry at him. He saw how Basil was the one who was caught in the past while Sunny had moved on. Once again Basil had sacrificed his life for Sunny.
But Basil was done with that now.
He was living his life. Basil was Happy and Life was Good.
So Basil kept moving forward. Every day he forced himself out of bed even when the act of it made him want to die. He showered every morning and cleaned himself up. Every day he went to work and then came back. He would greet everyone and make sure he ate dinner then he would clean up and go to bed to repeat everything.
He kept going because if he stopped then he would fall again and Basil couldn't afford to fall again. So every day he pushed himself to do the bare minimum. He did it every day because if he didn't then he would just be wasting his time again.
As he pulled into the driveway he found the driveway empty. Entering the house he found a note from Polly.
' - Hey Basil, Sorry for not telling you in advance but me and Rico were gonna be heading out for the night, We’ll be back by the time you wake up though, I left some food in the fridge for you!
Love Polly -' <3
Well, at least they left a note. With a sigh, Basil went to the fridge pulling out a plate with 2 sandwiches on it. He carried them to the living room plopping himself on the couch and turning on the TV to a random show as he ate his food.
Even now sitting alone in Polly's home Basil’s mind wanders to his old friends. He thinks of Kel and Aubrey, If they still bicker like they did when they were kids. He thinks of Hero, If he still cooks If he still has to Tell Kel and Aubrey off for making too much noise. The thought makes Basil chuckle a little bit, all the memories of them all as kids.
As the memories continue to sit, his mind naturally wanders back to Sunny. Basil's mood instantly drops as it does. God, why did it always come back to Sunny? Even now Basil can't understand fully why sunny feels like such a sore topic. Why did Sunny's leaving hit him so hard? He had spoken with his therapist about that and yet it still felt weird. Like he wasn't getting the full picture.
He still remembers that night he blew up on him. Basil did feel bad for yelling at him like that. He hates being angry in general. So why did Sunny make him so mad? Thinking about Sunny felt so raw. Basil misses him and hopes he never sees him again.
With a groan, Basil sits up taking a sip of his water “Why do feelings have to be so frustrating?”
Why did Sunny have to be so frustrating?
Basil sat back and slowly nibbled on his 2nd sandwich as he continued to think about the one-eyed noiret. That one boy seemed to just come out of nowhere at the most random times and cause trouble for Basil. Even now Basil is still mad at him. Sunny caused so much pain for him in his life. He went through so much because of Sunny Yet after all of it. He still cares about Sunny. After everything he still cares about him a little bit.
But god if he wasn't still annoyed with him. With everything that happened Basil still couldn't wrap his head around why he never came back to at least give Basil some sign. He could at least look back and understand now that it wasn't entirely Sunny’s fault for him not going out, But he was scared, Horrified even.
If Basil got the chance to one day, he would apologize. Even Sunny deserved an apology.
Basil just wondered, When would that day ever come?

Chapter Text
Today was the day.
He was finally packing and moving.
After finally moving the last of his more important possessions he hugged Polly and Rico before getting into his car. Polly had practically begged Basil to let her come along but he argued that moving boxes and pots wouldn't be the best pastime with her being so far along with her pregnancy.
So here Basil was alone driving onto campus grounds.
From the email he received, he knew the “Dorm” that his parents got was quite good. In actuality, it was hardly a dorm. From what he read he would be in a shared house with 3 other people, which means 4 rooms and 2 bathrooms.
Basil wasn't much of a people person but he was at least thankful he wasn't sharing a single dorm room with a person, That would have been much more difficult. The location of the house was right next to school grounds so the walks would be better with staying with Rico and Polly.
All he could hope for was that his housemates would be nice or at the least bit Bearable.
As He drove up he noticed a few things about the house.
Firstly, the house's yard was taken care of quite well.
Secondly, There were no cars in the driveway.
Basil could only assume that the others had left for . . something. He wasn't sure but he knew that he would meet them sooner or later.
Pulling into the driveway Basil grabbed what he could and started moving things to the front porch.
Despite thinking the house was empty Basil decided to knock still.
Which resulted in nothing.
‘Welp at least I tried.’
Basil pulled out the spare key he had been mailed and unlocked the front door. Stepping in he noticed that the house was quite clean. Very lived-in but clean.
Checking his phone he was supposed to be in the last room on the second floor. So grabbing ahold of his bags he made his way up and in.
The room was clean and nicely sized. If he had to put it one way he would probably say it was comfortable.
Thankfully making the walk back and forth from the car, porch, and room was tedious but not unbearable. It gave Basil the chance to say hi to a few neighbors.
From the small amount of chatting he got between different Neighbors, he found that the people who lived here were a rambunctious bunch.
One Neighbor, Cheryl, Told him that most weekends the group would be off partying and the such, one of the roommates dragging the other one around.
That at least soothed some of Basil's nerves. If they happened to not be his cup of tea then he could at least wait for the weekends to be free of them.
After finally bringing in the last of his things he promptly collapsed onto his bed.
Laying down he let his body relax as he pulled out his phone. Mindlessly scrolling away on whatever app he had.
Eventually, Basil decided to make his way to the Kitchen. He wouldn't eat anything there cause he would feel bad eating their food but he went ahead to just check and see what he would need to get at his next run to the store, and thank goodness he did. He had to mentally slap his face at the sight of the kitchen fridge.
On the inside were 2 half 2 liters of soda, and multiple half-filled tupperware of food. Most of which seemed to be leftovers from fast food.
Goodness, at least he knew for a fact he was living with a bunch of college dudes.
Basil chuckled at the sight of a Half-filled 2 liter of Orange Joe and Coke. He remembered how those two were Sunny and Kel's favorites. He still couldn't understand why someone would ever drink Orange Joe.
After some time of searching through the Pantry and fridge, he makes a list which he sticks to the front of the fridge.
–
Hey there new roommates, I just went through the fridge and Pantry and decided to make a list of groceries, You can add to the list if you like but don't feel rushed, if you need a lot then please make sure to put some cash down to help buy them.
Thanks in advance, Your New roommate - Basil Smith ^ u ^
–
After rereading the list to make sure he didn't sound rude Basil decided to make his way to his room and finish setting things up. Just moving a few potted plants around the window sill and unpacking boxes.
After finishing the room looked quite nice. Plopping himself down onto the bed He decided that now would be a good time to take a nap. Maybe he would wake up once his roommates arrived.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So far the day had been more or less meh for Sunny.
Between being dragged around by Kel to multiple hangouts and parties and being ready to avoid the new roommate they had to get the day had been meh.
He was not excited to meet their new roommate. Sunny wasn't much of a people person and after their last roommate was such a pain in his and Kels ass it felt like a doomsday clock for when they would eventually get home.
So he chose to indulge Kel and go to all these parties and hangouts.
But thankfully right now they had pulled into a McDonald’s for some food. Walking up to the counter Kel turned to Sunny.
“Oh my great oh so amazing buddy oh pal Sunny, It seems I have forgotten my wallet at home and were oh so far.” Kel held his hands up in pleading hold and gave his best puppy dog eyes.
“Okay okay enough, I'll pay for the food.” Sunny chuckled at the end of his sentence.
“Oh I thank thee oh great King Sunny” Kel took a knee before promptly shooting back up and rushing to look at the menu.
The girl at the counter looked at the two then down at her register, “Hello, welcome to McDonald’s, What can I get for you?”
“Can I get 2 double Cheese Burgers, a 20-piece Spicy Nugget, A large Fry, and hm A large Coke.”Kel then turned to Sunny, “Your Turn.” A large smile plastered on his face.
“I'll have a 20-piece of normal Nuggets and a large fry with a Dr pepper please.” Sunny pulled out his wallet pulling out two 20 dollar bills.
After getting the receipt they both took a set at a table waiting for the food.
Sunny looked out the window quietly contemplating what the new roommate would be like.
“Go on,” Kel said while looking towards Sunny.
“What?” Sunny asked.
“You're doing that thing where you go all quiet while thinking, So go on and get those thoughts out of that big ole head and talk about them.” Kel leaned back in his seat.
“I do not have a big head.”Sunny gave Kel a playful Glare.
“Your deflecting, Come on Sunny what's on your mind?” Kel kept a playful voice but he looked a little concerned.
“It's just . . . I'm nervous about our new roommate, I mean the last one we had stole from us so I'm not exactly thrilled to have a new one ya know?” Sunny kept his hands locked together on his lap.
“Oh don't get me wrong I get ya, Hell I'm still mad, But we need another roommate I mean unless we all work ourselves into the ground. See you still have a lot of money cause of your family but let's be honest I don't think any of us want to pick up extra shifts.”
“True I guess.”
“Plus our new roommate had a full year of rent paid upfront So I mean at least we don't have to worry about them not paying rent, Who knows maybe we can get lucky and have it be someone from Faraway.” Kel ended with a massive smile.
“Your Optamisim knows no bounds Kel. But I'm not sure. Faraways around a 5-hour drive so I wouldn't bet any money on someone being from there.” Sunny let out a Sigh as he leaned back.
“Wanna make that Bet?” Kel said with a grin.
“Really?” Sunny gave him a questioning look.
“Yea, When we meet them we ask and whoever wins pays the other one in a week's worth of their favorite drink.” Kel Puffed his chest out triumphantly at the thought.
“Sure thing Kel, But just don't whine when you're paying for my caffeine problem.”
After a few more minutes of chatting their food eventually got called, Kel picking it up and bringing it to them.
“Sho, Wanna Inbite Aburw Ovber?” Kel spoke with bits of his food flying onto the table.
“First of all, Gross Kel, Secondly Sure, I don't think she’s doing much so I’m sure she’d want to hang for a bit.” Sunny plucked a fry from the box dipping it and taking a bite.
After a large Gulp Kel replied, “OH, and she can come to see our new roommate, Ya know if they're a huge dick then Aubs can kick their ass ya know?’ Rif=ght after finishing Kel stuffed his face with 4 nuggets.
“Sure hehe, I'm sure she'd love to.” Sunny dipped a nugget before eating it.
Even with Kel's optimism, Sunny was still a little scared. He was a naturally introverted person, so it was always hard being around new people. But there wasn't much to hope for when it came to the new roommate. He couldn't hope for any old friends since he was only really close with Kel, Aubrey, and Hero. He knew the Hoolagins from Aubrey's group but wasn't particularly close to many of them.
So he was left sitting with an odd foreboding feeling. In the worst-case scenario, he would get a Kel 2. o but instead of overbearing optimism, he would be gifted with being an overbearing Asshole. In the best-case scenario, he gets a Sunny 2.o, someone who is quiet and not confrontational. Someone who would clean the house and help keep up the pantry issue. Someone to help keep Kel under control.
As his mind slowly drifted his mind went to all of the different things he listed. There was only one person he ever knew who had all of those qualities. Someone he still cared about deeply even after that night they fought.
Sunny secretly hoped he would lose the bet with Kel.
After their meal, Kel promptly jumped out to head to the car while Sunny finished cleaning the table. Once outside Sunny jumped into the driver's seat as Kel continued fiddling with the radio, eventually settling to plug his phone in and play from his playlists.
“So where to now Kel?” Sunny had started the car but hadn't pulled out of the lot.
“OH, I'll call Aub’s and see if she wants to hang, then we can stop by a party or just go home.” Kel was vibrating in his chair
“Sure thing Kel, I’ll go ahead and drive over there.” after which Sunny pulled out of the lot and started the drive to Aubrey’s.
The drive itself wasn't all that bad, it was quite calming. From what Sunny could hear Aubrey agreed to go out with them but she wasn't up for any parties so it seemed like they were heading right back to their place.
Which meant they needed to stop by the store and pick up some food and drinks since their fridge and pantry were pretty barren last he remembers.
Stopping by the curb Aubrey stepped out giving Kim a peck on the cheek before running over and hopping into the backseat.
“Sup Fuckers!” Aubrey yelled as she slid in slamming the door behind her.
“Well if it isn't my great co-conspirator Aubs, welcome to the party car,” Kel spoke in an overdramatic tone as he bowed.
“Well, it is great to be back my oversized Dumbass of a friend Kel.” Aubrey returned with the same energy.
“Ouch, You wound me with your words, Sunny back me up here.” Kel looked over with puppy dog eyes to Sunny.
“Nope, you dug your hole Kel.”Sunny pulled out as he began the drive to the store, “Hey Aub’s, we’re gonna head to the store first to pick up some food for the hangout.”
“Nice, I already have my wallet so I can pitch in since this oversized idiot won't.”Aubrey laughed as she leaned over to elbow Kels's shoulder.
“Ouch, My pride.” Kel leaned over as he draped an arm around Aubrey's shoulder.
As Aubrey and Kel continued to joke, Sunny, let his mind continue to wander further.
Still, it went to this new roommate. Something about them had this foreboding feeling, like something bad was going to happen once they met. He didn't know why but he was so nervous about them, Worst case scenario comes to be then he can just avoid them so why was he so worried?
As the night went on and the 3 all picked up food and drinks and made their way to Sunny and Kel's house that foreboding sense only grew once they pulled up and found a car already in the driveway.
Oh God.
At least he had Aubrey and Kel for this.
As the three made their way in the house was fully quiet. It showed no signs that anyone was there.
As Aubrey went to the kitchen With Sunny Kel promptly jumped onto the couch letting out a loud sigh as he turned on the TV.
As Sunny and Aubrey started to fill the fridge and Pantry Sunny took notice of a Note stuck to the front of the fridge.
‘Huh, Strange.’ Sunny thought.
Pulling the note off He pocketed it deciding to read it once they finished putting up the groceries.
“Kel, Get off your lazy ass and help us out!” Aubrey yelled over to Kel.
“What? You guys have it covered, Plus someone needs to pick the movie.” Kel looked over with a sly smile.
“Jeez Fine.” Aubrey had resorted to shaking Kel's sodas before putting them in the fridge.
The process was slow but not too difficult.
“So what's on your mind?” Aubrey had taken a break leaning onto the counter and cracking open her drink.
“What do you mean?” Sunny looked up from the fridge to look at her.
“I mean what got you so glum looking? I noticed it clouding around you all day, So spit cyclops, What's on your mind?” Aubrey was now pointing a finger at Sunny.
“First of all, Ouch. Cyclops? Secondly, I'm just... Ugh. I'm just worried about this new roommate. They moved in today but no word yet, I saw their car in the driveway so they're hereI'mim just worried that they might be … a dick or something I guess.” Sunny rubbed the nape of his neck as his eyes studied Aubrey's face.
“Don't worry bro, you got Kel here and me, so if they're a dick then we can bang them into shape. Plus if they're hiding out in their room then they're probably another you.” Aubrey let out a chuckle at the end as she promptly took another swig.
After stocking the fridge and pantry the two went ahead, grabbing a few snacks and drinks, and made their way to the couch both collapsing onto it on opposite sides With Kel in the middle.
“So what'll it be my compadres? Drama, Action, Romance? Kel held the remote up as he scrolled through Netflix.
“I'm alright with whatever really.” Sunny had cracked open his can of Coke and taken a sip.
“Oh let's watch some Avatar, Been a while since I watched it.” Aubrey sat up as she spoke and pulled open a bag of potato chips.
“Avatar it is then!” Kel announced scrolling and eventually played Episode 1.
As they all settled in Sunny decided to read the note that their new roommate had left.
Pulling it out of his pocket and unfolding it he studied it slowly.

Sunny had to pause for a moment.
‘No way.’
It couldn't be, right?
Maybe a mistake? There had to be more people with that name, Or maybe he just misread?
But no. A name that is that unique, with handwriting that is that neat. Even the little smiley face at the end.
It was him.
It was Basil.
Maybe he had time to get himself together. From the looks of things He was probably asleep, So it was unlikely that he would come down any time soon. So he had time to calm down and get his thoughts in order.
He could do this.
He's only forcefully reconnecting with an old friend who helped him Hang his sister, Gashed out his eye, yelled at him, and told him he hated him.
Easy as could be.
As Sunny had to hold himself together from having a full freak out in front of Kel and Aubrey He heard something over the booming TV.
A Door opens.
A Door Close.
And Creaking of the stairs.
Fuck

Hazel Here,
You may be wondering why you're seeing me here and not our Main characters.
Well
You see
I uh . . . I hit writer's block pretty hard (* ̄∀ ̄)
Like really bad. I realized that there were a lot of mistakes and things that would easily be misconstrued from a reader's point of view. So in trying to fix it I completely burnt myself out.
Like . . . . Bad.
I sat at my Laptop for a good Day rewriting the same sentence until I deleted it and just fell asleep for the day.
Not only that but I was recently gifted a VR headset so VRchat has been filling my days when I lose my flame to write.
BUT DO NOT FRET MY DEAR READERS !! O(≧∇≦)O
This is not the end of SAWF.
I Will Send out a chapter Next Friday even if it takes all of my ability and burns me out completely, And if I fail then I will write whatever the first Comment suggestion is, and that is a Promise
(╹ꇴ◠)
So to go over what I have said, I will get a chapter out next Friday that is at least 4000 Words long.
◝(ᵔᗜᵔ)◜
And If I fail on this then I will write whatever the first comment is as long as it's not utterly atrocious.
Once again I'm super sorry to everyone who was waiting with bated breath for this week, But I'm trying to push through this writer's block.
SO DO NOT WORRY, SAWF WILL RETURN.

Summary:
A Difficult talk that needs to happen finally takes place between our main 2 boys.
Chapter Text
This Dream was beautiful.
Much better than other dreams Basil had had in a long time.
Maybe it was these new mattresses?
The dream did come across as a bit strange.
It was just him, Alone.
A field of flowers surrounded Basil as he lay down in the softest patch of grass he had ever felt.
The moment was perfect.
A deep breath and slow exhale.
Perfect.
The only thing that could even be seen as off was that Basil kept noticing that he was alone.
Normally he had the company of someone or something.
Sometimes it would be a cat or Bunny.
Sometimes it would be his Grandmother or Polly.
Sometimes It would be Sunny. (Despite what Basil would even admit to himself, Those were his favorite.)
But right now he was completely alone.
Only the sound of wind and flowers and grass brushing against each other.
Nothing could ruin this.
Right as that thought crossed his mind he heard something. It sounded like a door being slammed open.
Eh probably nothing, just dream nonsense.
But as Basil tried to let himself drift off he heard more and more noise.
A loud TV playing noise
God okay maybe it wasn't a dream.
Slowly but surely Basil pulled himself out of his dream.
Waking up in the dark new room Basil groggily wandered through his room as he searched for his light switch.
Once the lights were on he quickly switched to some pajamas from his now smelly clothes.
Now with his soft flower-designed pajama pants and a baggy long sleeve, he made his way out of his room and to the downstairs bathroom.
The stairs squeaked under his steps but thankfully seemed muted thanks to his roommate's obnoxiously loud TV.
Reaching the Bathroom Basil was met with the sight of a Ghoul. It damn near made him jump out of his skin.
Up until he realized it was just his reflection.
God, he looked bad. His hair was the exact definition of bedhead. Goodness, he even had a few lines across his face thanks to his pillow.
With a splash of warm water to his face and with an impromptu toothbrush visit Basil cleaned himself up quite a bit.
At least a little presentable for his new roommates.
God, now he wished he had put on some different clothes. His baggy green shirt and flower patterned Pj’s were hardly first impression-worthy.
Eh, what's the worst that could happen right? It is not like they would rip him apart for details of his life—their just roommates who should care what they think.
So there Basil stood, In front of the bathroom mirror, trying to brush out the bedhead because even if they didn't care he did. He wants - No, needs a good impression on them cause god knows he wouldn't last a year with roommates who saw him as some sort of slob.
So there he stood, Trying his hardest to Bush it out.
—-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FUCK
God okay don't panic, don't Panic.
Not Panicking
Oh god, I'm panicking.
Sunny was practically melting in his seat trying to hold himself together.
His once best friend turned partner in crime, turned Ex Best friend who when he last saw yelled at him on how horrible he was then just up and moved away after IS NOW IN HIS HOUSE ! !!
God, it was hard not to panic in this situation.
Okay just think, How can we go about this?
Confronting him head-on would be difficult and weird but holy hell letting him just walk in here would be so much worse.
So what the hell does he do in this situation?
Okay, the best-case scenario is to wait and see where Basil goes. If he goes to his room, gets up, and tries to talk to him, he can try and get everything under control.
“Yo Sun, You alright?” Aubrey’s voice cut through the mental fog.
“Oh uh, y-yea I’m fine.” looking up Sunny realized he was sitting on the couch with just Aubrey.
“Where Kel?” Sunny said as seriously as he could.
“To the bathroom, Why?” Aubrey looked at Sunny with worry and confusion.
“Fuck.” Getting up and running to the door as fast as he could he got to Kel but was already too late.
—-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK
Oh god, that's them.
“O-one s-second.” Basil squeaked out.
Quickly pulling the brush from his hair he rushed over opening the door.
In front of him stood Kel who was seemingly being grappled By a panicked Sunny.
Both paused slowly, turning to stare at the frazzled and poofy-haired Basil.
“H-Hi.” Basil slowly squeezed out.
“HOLY SHIT BASY BOY!!!” Kel practically rushed forward grabbing Basil by the waist hoisting him into the air and spinning him, “OH MY GOD YOUR OUR ROOMMATE?!?!”
“Y-Y-Yea.” Basil slowly spoke now dizzy thanks to Kels spinning.
“Kel Put him down please.” Sunny patted Kel on the shoulder.
“OH, Yeah My bad Basy Boy, God I can't believe we get to have our Bagel Bite back.” Kel placed Basil back on the floor helping him stand as he swayed a little.
Oh god, This is horrible, Worst case scenario, Basil needs some time to breathe.
“Oh Basil come watch Avatar with us, Aubrey’s in the living room.” Kel looked down at Basil with a pair of puppy dog eyes.
GOD NO! He should not, He needs to go back to his room for a very long time to think.
So there they sat on the couch, watching Avatar.
Aubrey gave a quick smile and waved to Basil as he sat down. On his left was Sunny and on his right was Kel, then next to him was Aubrey.
What the actual
Fuck
—-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Okay, so this was maybe the worst possible outcome.
Sitting here he could feel Basil's eyes on him every time he glanced.
Just from the atmosphere, he could feel his discomfort. It was so thick you could cut it with a knife. Hell Sunny was practically choking on it.
So now was the time for formulating a game plan.
He needed to talk to Basil.
Alone.
Once Aubrey leaves, send Kel, who will be hopefully tired, to bed then try and sit Basil down for a discussion.
One about that night. About what he said.
He needed to try and apologize, to give his side of events. To try and explain why he did what he did. He had to.
So now he just had to keep it together and watch The Avatar with his friends and after, He would try and make things right.
He had to at least try.
—----------------------------- 2 Hours Later —---------------------------
“Alright, Losers, I'm out of here.” With a Sigh Aubrey sat up from the couch.
“ALREADY?!” Kel shot up, turning over to her, “WHY?!”
“My Oh so amazing Kimberly just texted that she wants to pick me up for some couple fun.” Aubrey ended it with a wink and finger guns.
“EWWWWWWWWW, Gross you could have just said you wanted to leave.” Kel dejectedly slumped down into his chair.
“Don't worry you dumb ass, Just visit me when you're bored, I'm barely even 20 minutes away.” Aubrey sighed as she walked past ruffling Sunny's hair, “Alrighty Boys, Peace.”
“By Aubs,” Sunny said looking over.
“BYE MY AUBERGINE!” Kel yelled out as she closed the door.
“Ah, she loves me.” Kel smiled as he fell back onto the couch.
Then the room went silent.
Now it was time Sunny. You have him here so now's the time to do it. Just wait for Kel to leave then Boom.
“Yo Sunny.” Kel had sat up and turned to face him.
“What's up Kel?”
“Ima go take a shower, can you toss my drinks into the fridge?”Kel stood up as he started his way to the bathroom.
“Sure thing kel, Just make sure you clean up after yourself.”
“Of course my Sun Monsieur, Who do you take me for?” Kel had turned dramatically.
“I take you for Kelsy the slob, And stay out of a thesaurus, Big Vocab doesn't fit you.” Sunny chuckled as Kel let out a laugh, marching up the stairs.
So now the two sat alone in silence.
God this was so much easier in his head, Why was it so hard to say anything?
Here Basil is, sitting right next to him and he couldn't even force out a cough.
Sunny needed to think quickly or else things would be ruined, He needed to try to reach out for once.
—-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fuck.
Basil felt like he was going to melt.
He was already nervous about meeting his roommates but now he is completely and utterly fucked.
His roommates were Kel and Sunny.
Fuck
FUCK
God Basil wishes he had taken Rico's offer, Just stay with him and Polly, have a nice life, and relax. But no He just had to go to live in a Dorm.
God.
At least things were over.
Aubrey Left, Kel went to shower, and Sunny seemed to just be spacing off. Now's his time. Just get up nice and slow and just walk off. Don't say a word and it will be fine.
Slowly Basil sat up and moved forward before his worst fear happened.
Sunny grabbed his wrist.
Then things got even worse.
Sunny spoke.
“Basil . . . Can we talk?” Sunny's grip tightened, “Please?” His tone was pleading and desperate.
Slowly Basil turned around and Sunny had a face equal to that of a kicked puppy in the rain. Just sad and pleading.
Oh God.
“Please, . . . Can we just... Can we do this tomorrow? Please.” Basil looked down to Sunny's face.
With a nod, Sunny resigned himself to letting the confrontation happen tomorrow.
Quickly Basil made his way up to his room.
Sitting on His bed Basil took a deep breath.
Oh god.
How the fuck was he supposed to do this.
He didn't think he was going to have to let this happen so soon.
With a long exhale Basil collapsed down onto his back, pulling his blanket over his body. Slowly He curled up hugging his pillow closely.
Tomorrow was going to be difficult.
—--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As Basil left heading up the stairs Sunny slumped back into his seat and took a long breath.
It was going to be difficult but he needed to try and talk with Basil.
If he didn't then it would eat him alive.
So he had to try and do something. Tomorrow he would try to sit down with him and share it over a drink or something. Maybe he should prepare some food.
Slowly Sunny stood up and walked to the bathroom knocking on the door.
“Hey Kel, Are you still showering?”
Over the running water, he heard Kel, “Yea Sunny? What's up?”
“I'm gonna head to bed now, I'll see ya tomorrow, Goodnight.”
“Alrighty then, Night Night Sun Boi!” Kel yelled over the water as he went back to humming.
Sunny made his way up to his room on the second floor, collapsing onto the bed letting sleep take him completely.
Tomorrow was going to be one hell of a trip, wasn't it?
‘Of course, it is Idiot’
With that last thought Sunny mentally slapped his other side choosing to drown it out with music.
—---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As Basil woke up his room was filled with soft light from his window. Thankfully the curtains were doing their job pretty well.
Lifting himself off the bed Basil slowly whipped his eyes free of the overnight gunk, stretching in the process.
Then he smelt the scent of coffee making its way through the house.
Oh. Yea, That.
After a minute to mentally prepare himself, Basil walked downstairs to be greeted by Sunny sitting down at the kitchen table.
As Basil entered Sunny shot up looking over to him.
“H-Hey, Good morning Basil, I uh, I made coffee if you want some, I know you were never a coffee person so we have some juice and soda in the fridge, I mean Juice specifically. Apple.” Sunny smiled but Basil could easily tell he was still tense, Basil was tense too. But this talk was bound to happen so best to do it now rather than later right?
“Thanks, I'll just grab some water though.” Walking to the cabinets Basil pulled out his vine-patterned Mug filling it with Ice and water before sitting opposite the table from Sunny.
“So uh . . it’s . . . Been a while.” Sunny fidgeted with the laces of his hoodie as he looked down.
“It has,” Basil replied. Too fast and too blank. Basil took a breath to try and steady himself. “Yeah, it has been a while.”
“Listen Basil I . . You deserve an explanation, I never got to give you one back then But You deserve to know. Know why I did what I did.”
“Fine, But make it quick. I have things to say too.”
“Listen Basil I . . . I want this to be smooth for both of us,” Sunny Sighed and let his hoodie laces fall as he gripped his cup, “Before I try to explain myself, I want to talk to you about that night . . . when we... Talk..”
Sunny took a deep breath.
“I'm so . . . so sorry Basil, I truly am. I'm more sorry than I think you could ever know. I . . . I don't think I ever could make it up to you but I want to try.” Sunny finally looked up at Basil.
All Basil could feel was his eyes growing Hot and stinging with water.
“I Cared about you so much Sunny” It took everything in Basil's soul to try and hold it together . . . Yet his voice still quivered.
Sunny's face fell.
“I used to care so much about you Sunny, More than YOU could imagine. I cared so much that I destroyed myself and became nothing without you, Then I became even worse after you came back. I hurt you and I hurt everyone I held close. I had only Polly left after everything. You fell away and for good reason, I nearly. I . . . I almost killed you that night, Then when our friends learned the truth. I just... I fell apart Sunny.”
Basil took a deep breath and felt the tears run down his cheeks, His nose started to stuff and his throat felt impossibly tight.
“I'm only just now starting to piece myself back together Sunny so please... Let me. I'll be civil with you guys, I won't have an outburst, But I don't think I could take anything more.” Basil started to rub his eyes as the tears kept slowly flowing, his hiccups sounding like booming gunfire in the now silent room.
“I'm Sorry Basil I-I’m so Sorry. I didn't mean to... I didn't know. I should have tried more but I didn't and . . I . .I'm so sorry I didn't. You deserve an explanation and I want to give you one.” Sunny took a deep breath as he looked up to face Basil.
And so slowly Sunny tried to explain. He decided to keep out the 4 years but explained everything else.
He explained how when he left he had to spend time in and out of hospitals and therapy. But he never stopped missing any of them. He reached out slowly and tried to find out what had happened with Basil and how worried he had been that Basil had fallen into the same hole he was in. Most importantly he explained why he didn't try to stay.
“I. . . . I was afraid. I was afraid Basil.” Sunny kept his eyes down on the table.
“But we could have at least been afraid together.” Basil kept his eyes on Sunny, Waiting to hear something back.
“I . . .” Sunny took a deep breath and a slow exhale, “I was afraid of... You Basil.” Sunny gripped his mug, his knuckles turning white.
“W-. What?” Basil took a second to try and process what Sunny had said.
It hurt more than anything else.
“I. I was afraid of you for a while Basil, In . . . In my nightmares, I would see you, Or your shadow more accurately.” Sunny was shaking a little now as he spoke “I was told it was just trauma from my injury and if I avoided the topic it would go away . . . But that would mean leaving you again, even if it was just in my mind.”
Sunny looked up to try and meet Basil's gaze but regretted it seeing the hurt on Basil's face.
“I didn't want to leave you or the nightmares because if I did then. I would forget what you looked like. . . And that was scarier than anything that you could have ever done to me. So I didn't stop, I kept asking and kept trying to reach out.”
Basil felt more tears fall as he fully registered. Basil had traumatized Sunny twice now.
“You were... Afraid of me.” Basil took a deep breath, “ So why? Why keep trying? Just to not forget someone who had hurt you so much?”
“So I wouldn't forget someone that I still . . . I still cared for deeply.” Sunny kept his eyes on Basil.
“I... I still think it would be best if . . . If we just... Kept distance.” Basil looked down at the mug, “I just... Every time we were near each other we hurt each other and everyone else so . . I think we should . . Keep our distance.”
“Basil I . . . .” Sunny felt his voice waver and fall. He couldn't think of anything to say.
“Please.”
Basil looked up from his hands, His vision blurry, “What?” His voice was weak.
“Please, Basil... Let me have Hope.”
Basil whipped his eyes, his tear-stained eyes now meeting Sunny's still flowing ones, “I don't. . Hope?”
“Please... Let me have hope that I can still get my B-best friend back... P-Please.” Sunny’s voice cracked as hiccups forced themselves out. Sunny’s eyes filled with despair and pleading to Basil's still broken ones.
“How far did Hope ever g-get you sunny?” Basil wiped his nose with his now wet sleeve.
“Then Let me get You back,” Sunny whipped his face, determination and hope now on it, “Please, Let me Win you back Basil.” Sunny looked up, reaching out and grabbing Basil's hand.
Basil’s face fell as he looked down at Sunny's hands. He realized that Sunny wouldn't stop trying.
Despite what Basil may have thought.
There might still be a chance that Sunny does care.
That Sunny might still want him in his life.
Cause Basil still . . . . He still wants Sunny in his.
“If you want your best friend so badly, Then get him back.” Basil tried to keep his head down but he could feel the air turn lighter.
Slowly lifting his head he was met with the view of Sunny still crying but now with a stupid smile smeared on his face as he wiped his eyes.
And Basil couldn't help but smile back a little bit.
Both their faces were equally drenched in tears. Yet they both held Hope that the future wouldn't Hurt as much as their past.
“God, Why does everything have to be so sad between us?” Sunny said as he let out a soft laugh.
“Were Heavy people sunny, Just h-HIC-ow it goes I guess,” Basil responded Hiccuping in the middle as he tried to wipe his eyes again.
“I would argue -Sniff- I'm just a bigger crybaby.” Basil laughed a little after saying.
“Aren't we both?” Sunny said.
Sunny chuckled at Basil as the two started to laugh together.
“God, We should get cl-cleaned up though. Kels is supposed to be back soon. Don't want him seeing this and getting any ideas.” Sunny chuckled as he stood up grabbing some napkins as he handed them to Basil.
The two stood there with both hands on the napkins, their eyes on each other as they sniffled and smiled.
-SMASH-” GUESS WHOS OH- Whoa uhm... What's going on?” Kel now stood at the front door with 2 cases of what seemed to be beer and a very concerned face.
“Nothing Kel just . . We talked.” Sunny smiled as he let go of the napkin.
Basil felt a little disappointed at the loss of closeness.
“Aww, that's a great GROUP HUG!” Kel quickly ran over placing the cases down and grabbing the 2 into a tight bear hug.
Sunny chuckled and ruffled Kel's hair as Kel continued to hold them up.
Funnily enough, Basil felt at peace. Leaning into the Hug Basil hugged them both tightly.
The thought still rang in Basil's mind though.
He still wanted Sunny in his life.
From the looks of things, Sunny still wanted him in his life.
Maybe this could work out.
Them being near each other.
Maybe this year won't be too difficult.

Chapter Text
After that Group Hug Kel had a massive smile glued to his face for the rest of the day. While it was touching to sit and have a talk it just felt almost hollow for Basil. He felt good talking to them, Yea, But he just feels . . . Empty about it.
Almost as if It was just another day.
So now Basil lay in his room staring up at the ceiling.
He had been lying here, for what, at least two or three hours by now.
The fan spun slowly as Basil tried to sift through his many thoughts.
He understood what he wanted.
What he wanted. . . . .
He wanted to have friends.
He wanted them as his friends once again.
But it just felt wrong.
That talk with Sunny made his heart flutter and their hug with Kel made him smile but it all felt so wrong. He knew thinking like this was supposedly wrong but he just couldn't fathom a reason to have them as friends, especially after what he had done.
He had practically ruined their lives and changed their lives trajectory dramatically.
He couldn't find a reason to let himself be friends with them other than his selfishness. It was the only real answer Basil could think of. He was selfish and he couldn't let himself sink alone.
He wanted to be with them so badly.
The more it went through his mind the harder his heart beat and his eyes felt heavy.
As he slowly drifted farther and farther into his own mind he heard a soft knock on his bedroom door.
“Basil, It's Sunny . . . I uh... I wanted to just knock and see how you were doing?”
Sunny's muffled voice slipped through the door and Basil almost didn't respond. He could have just pretended to be asleep.
But he didn't.
“Come in,” Basil said.
Slowly the door opened and Sunny walked in. He looked around the room and smiled softly before turning his head to see Basil.
Sunny walked over sitting on the edge of Basil's bed.
“How are you doing?” Sunny asked facing Basil.
“I... I’m Not sure, I'm feeling a lot right now if I'm honest.” Basil responded. Sighing at the end.
“Do you want to talk about it?” Sunny asked giving a smile.
“Not really. It's just too much and I don't wanna cry again today.” Basil said laughing.
“Understandable, every talk between us ends in tears.” Sunny chuckled nodding.
The room was silent. But it couldn't have possibly been more loud in Basil's mind.
He may be a little dense but he sure isn't stupid. After a long time with his therapist, he knew what the “Sunny” dreams were.
They were amazing but also were the worst for what they represented.
He had always held Sunny close to his heart despite how many thorns he had grown.
Like a Rose bush, Basil just kept reaching in to hold him despite being pricked, even now all he could think was holding him again.
The room stayed quiet for a while as the two contemplated what to say.
“So . . .Uhm, Kel was gonna head out with a few friends to get food, I decided to stay back and just make some stuff here, Do you… Wanna join me or head out with Kel or... Just stay up here? No Pressure just uh...Wondering.” Sunny looked down as he fidgeted with the strings of his black hoodie.
“I uh . . . Sure, I’ll um I’ll get dressed and I'll hang out with you in the kitchen.” Basil kept his eyes down as he turned in his bed.
Silence as they both sat in the room.
“Oh uh, I should probably let you do that,” Sunny said quickly as he left the room closing the door behind him.
Basil laughed a little to himself as he sat up getting dressed into a loose-fitting hoodie and some sweats and socks. He sat down on his bed as he took some more deep breaths.
He was still a little on edge but this was his chance. His chance to try and fix things, to build back the bridge to Sunny.
Slowly he made his way down the stairs to find Sunny pulling things out of the fridge and pantry.
Basil walked in to see mostly lunch meats and snacks out.
“God, what are you planning on making?” Basil joked.
“Oh uh... I'm not really sure if I'm honest.” Sunny responded as he turned around, “I'm not much of a cook so I normally resort to snacks and the sort.” Sunny rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly as he turned back around to look into the fridge.
“How about we just make some sandwiches and see what else we can make?” Basil offered as he walked into the kitchen putting away the snacks and pulling out more ingredients.
“Yea that… That sounds better yeah.” Sunny responds as he chuckles a little.
After that, the Kitchen grows quiet as the two move slowly getting used to each other's presence as Basil continues moving things around.
“How do you feel about Salad?” Basil asked as he pulled out a bowl.
“Eh, it's alright, With good dressings it's good.” Sunny hums back as he pulls out chips.
“Alrighty want a bowl?” Basil says as he reaches for a second bowl.
“Sure why not,” Sunny responds setting the bags down as he sits.
Soon Basil finishes up walking back to the table with two plates and two bowls. On the plates sit two sandwiches with room for chips and in the bowls a small salad.
Picking it up Sunny took a bite pausing on how familiar it tasted.
“Wait a second,” Sunny paused to swallow, “Is this a Hero Sandwich?”
Basil laughed a little as Sunny's eyes seemed to sparkle at the taste, “Yeah I remembered how to make them and decided to go ahead with it, the salads are basically the same just without the meat, cheese, and bread.”
Sunny began to devour the sandwich as Basil ate the salad slowly.
Once finishing the Sandwich and a large helping of chips Sunny sat up, “Want anything to drink?”
“Oh uh Yea just grab me whatever,” Basil responded as he continued on his salad.
“Here ya go.”Sunny placed a can of Cola next to Basil's plate as he sat back down across from him.
Basil cracked it open and drank as Sunny started on his salad.
Once again the two fell into silence, but this time it was much more comfortable.
Basil felt easy sitting with Sunny, sharing food, and just sitting.
"You know," Sunny broke the silence gently, "I've missed this. Just... being here with you, like old times."
Basil nodded, a small smile tugging at his lips. "Yeah. Me too."
Slowly the quiet took over again as Basil took a deep breath.
“Sunny I..,” Basil sat up as he took another deep breath, “I want to say that… I'm sorry. For everything yea but I… I’m sorry for leaving, I know we both did but you had to and I chose to so I… I want to apologize for hiding away from you and just pretending that none of it existed.” Despite trying his hardest Basil still felt pin prick tears pushing through his eyes.
“It's okay Basil.” Sunny said rather quickly, ”I Get it, I did the exact same thing back then, Arguably worse, and I … I never apologized for that so, Don't worry. I'm just happy to have you back, Really, I am.”
Basil met Sunny’s eyes and they both smiled.
“God, Before things get a little too deep, wanna watch a Movie?” Sunny joked as he pointed to the living room.
Basil laughed as he nodded, “Yeah that'd be better than another cry session.”
The two laughed as they moved their plates to the living room and turned on a comedy to watch.
Slowly The air was less tense as they began to laugh more and more. Things no longer felt like a tense meeting and more of a peaceful and overdue get together.
It felt more like home as the two leaned against each other.
“Hey, Basil?” Sunny asked.
“What's up?” Basil asked back tilting his head to look at Sunny.
“I wanted to ask before but it felt a little too... Tense I guess. But I wanted to ask if you were still willing to try and reconnect with everyone fully?” Sunny had turned fully to look at Basil.
“Oh… Well, I did definitely think about that. I mean I guess Kel won't be all the hard I mean he already acts like we’ve been friends, I guess you and me are on better terms, I'm just worried about the other two I guess.” Basil wrung his hands as he spoke.
“Aubrey and Hero?” Sunny asked tilting his head.
“Yeah, it's just… What happened affected them the most and I don't really have the best memories of them after what happened.” Basil felt his mood fall as he remembered Hero's reaction and Aubrey's actions.
“Well, I can say for sure Both regret It.” Sunny placed a hand on Basils.
“Really?” Basil looked up from his lap to meet Sunny's eyes.
“Yeah, I mean I've had some heartfelt talks with Hero about it. He regrets how he reacted and still loves us both. He still talks with me about everything, He actually changed his major to psychology too, funny enough.” Sunny laughed as he leaned back into the couch. “Also on the note of Aubrey I've spent more than enough nights listening to her get black out drunk and then have to hold her hair at the end of it all. She regrets everything like you wouldn't imagine. She kind of hates herself from what I can pick up, But she's working on it all. Kim's helping out a bunch with it all.” Sunny kept his hand on Basil’s as he slowly rubbed his thumb across his palm.
“That… That's nice to know. I do want to rebuild things with them. I think that would be nice.” Basil smiled as he leaned over resting his head on Sunny's shoulder.
Slowly the two fell into silence as the movies ran on and on. Eventually, the two fell asleep on each other.
After some time Basil slowly woke up to the sound of a door opening and closing and the sound of what seemed to be arguing.
“Fine then let's ask Sunny,” Aubrey said
“Yeah, He’ll take my side then you’ll owe me 5 whole dollars,” Kel said back
“Shut up,” Aubrey responded.
“SUNNY! WE NEED TO -Ough- WHAT'S THAT FOR!” Kel yelled.
“SHHHH shut up Kel.” Aubrey responded.
Then Silence.
Thanks to that Basil slowly felt himself slip back to sleep.
Nice.
Calming.
Sleep.
Then the sound of a phone camera and a flash.
After that, he reached up to rub his eyes and felt something move under him.
Which quickly woke him up.
Sitting up he found he and Sunny had fallen asleep on the couch eventually falling over with Basil on top of Sunny.
“God, just like when y'all were kids,” Aubrey said laughing as she leaned over showing her phone to Kel.
“It's kind of cute in like a bro way,” Kel said eyeing the photo.
“A Bro way? Dude sunnys running his finger through his hair WHILE ASLEEP!” Aubrey said starting to laugh.
All the while Basil felt like he was on the verge of melting.
The laughing only got louder and harder as Sunny grogelly reached up attempting to pull Basil back down to his chest.
“OH MY GOOD LOOK KEL!” Aubrey yelled laughing as she took more photos.
Only stopped by the pillow Sunny then flung at Her.
Quickly Basil stood up rushing to the Hall mumbling about needing sleep as he went upstairs and closed his door as soon as he physically could.
After that, he slowly sat on his bed burying his face into his hands.
God . . . . . . .
GOD!
He had Fallen asleep with Sunny on the couch . . . . . . And it was some of the best sleep he'd had in a while too.
He was doomed. As easy as that.
Then a knock on his door.
Accepting his fate of ridicule he stood up walking over to open his door.
Only to find Sunny on the other side. Still groggy but holding a pillow and blanket.
“Hey, I ugh . . . . I know this is weird but can I.. Can I sleep in here?” Sunny looked down to the ground as he spoke.
“Uh . . . y-yea,” Basil said moving and holding the door open. Closing it after Sunny walked in.
“It's just . . . . sleeping on the couch with y. . . . . sleeping on the couch was some of the better sleep I've had in a while so I wanted to try and . . . and get some more sleep I guess.” Sunny rubbed the back of his neck as he spoke.
“I… I get it… don't worry.” Basil sat on his bed as Sunny walked over sitting next to him.
Slowly the two laid down awkwardly.
But as they laid their in the floral-scented room they started to feel more comfortable.
Eventually enough to not lay as far as possible apart.
They started to slowly lay together and the returning heat warmed Basil's heart as he laid his head on Sunny's chest. The slow rhythmic beats lull him to sleep.
Eventually, Sunny's hand moved up to slowly brush through basils hair.
The mix of the warmth from their blankets and bodies, the soft lights, the floral scent, and Sunny's rhythmic heartbeat.
It was peaceful.
After many minutes of silence, Sunny’s breaths became soft and rhythmic.
He had fallen asleep and left Basil to lie next to him.
As Basil felt himself fall asleep he mumbled into Sunny’s chest a soft “Good Night.” as he let his own sleep take him.
That night Basil dreamed of being drenched in Sunlight and warmth in the most beautiful Tulip field he had ever seen.
It was the nicest dream he had in a long time.
Notes:
WOOOOOOOOOOOO I'M BACK!!!!!
Sorry about the wait, I've been very busy with looking for a job and dealing with some mental Fog.
On top of that, I have hit writer's Block and Got hit by a Hurricane.
But I am here and WIth a new chapter.
Who knows when the next one will be lol.
But there will be another, do not worry my Plant babies.
Chapter 12: A Good Update (* ' ∀ ' )
Summary:
WHATS THIS?!?! ANOTHER CHAPTER!?!?!?!?!?
Nope, Just an Update.
But a nice one at that.
Chapter Text
HELLO EVERYONE.
It is I Your Herb and Spice Hazel.
I know I know so gracious of me to grace you all with my presence lol.
But really, Thank you all for reading so far. This story is very close to me, The Sunny/Basil Ship (Sunflower) as a whole is very close to me.
Omori is close to me.
But that's a story for another time.
For now, I come to you, my dear readers. I have some more time on my hands to write but I have come to a crossroads. What to write?
That is where it comes to you, my beautiful readers.
I decided I would much rather write what you all want to read than write whatever. So I have a question to pose.
I have 3 current fics that are being worked on (Are posted on my account)
"Saving a Wilted Flower" (SAWF)
"Long Since Dried Lotus" (LSDL)
"Recurring Truths Of The Subconscious Mind" (RTOTSM)
And the yet to posted "Domestic Gardens" (DG)
I have taken a look and found that I have Ideas for all 4 of them if I am entirely honest with you guys.
So I leave it up to you guys.
Whether you are A loving Reader, A new fan, A constant Commenter, or a long-time Silent Lurker I'd love to hear any or all of your opinions.
I'm horrible when it comes to decisions which leads me to write little by little for all my Fics, Private stories, and D&D campaigns. So some direction from the ones that I hope to make happy would be incredibly welcome.
Whether you do or don't comment, Thank you so much for reading and keeping up with the series. I love you all so much.
Can't wait to hear from you all! ( ^ 3 ^ )
