Chapter Text
Tobin leaned back in her leather chair, studying the city skyline through the floor-to-ceiling windows of her office. She straightened up as her assistant announced the arrival of Christen Press, the captain of Angel FC, the team Tobin was considering investing in.
"Send her in, please," Tobin said.
A moment later, Christen entered the room, exuding confidence with each step. Tobin couldn't help but admire her poise as she extended her hand in greeting.
"Miss Heath, it's a pleasure to meet you," Christen said, her voice firm yet polite.
Tobin flashed her signature grin, rising from her seat to greet Christen. "The pleasure is all mine, Christen. Please, call me Tobin."
They exchanged pleasantries before settling into their seats, Tobin eager to delve into business matters.
"I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to meet you and discuss my potential investments in Angel FC," Tobin began, her eyes sparkling with enthusiasm. "As the captain of the team, I know that you are in the best position to advise my team and I on where the money should be spent. I want to be a part of nurturing the growth of women’s growth."
Christen nodded in agreement, surprised by Tobin's interest in women's sports given that her reputation lies in the tech industry "I couldn't agree more, Tobin. We're always looking for investors to elevate the game and the profession.“
As they delved into the details of Tobin's investment plans, Tobin couldn't resist injecting a flirtatious tone into their conversation.
"You know, Christen, I must say, your passion for the game is truly inspiring," Tobin said, her voice low and intimate. "Not to mention, you're quite captivating yourself."
Christen's expression remained neutral, though a flicker of discomfort passed through her eyes. She is aware of Tobin’s reputation with women. "Thank you, Miss. Heath. I appreciate the compliment. But let's keep our focus on the matter at hand, shall we?"
Tobin chuckled, undeterred by Christen's deflection. "Of course, Christen. Business first. Though I must admit, it's hard to keep my focus with you sitting across from me."
Christen raised an eyebrow, her tone firm as she set boundaries. "I'm here to discuss business, Ms. Heath. I don’t want to offend you but if you are serious about investing in women’s soccer, you should understand the sexual harassment women face in the space. As a future investor, you should be working towards providing a safe space for women and not contributing to the problem. So please let's keep it professional."
Tobin's smile faded as she absorbed Christen's words. She had not anticipated such a direct confrontation, but she respected Christen's candor.
"You're absolutely right, Christen," Tobin replied, her tone earnest. "I apologize if I crossed any boundaries. It was not my intention to make you uncomfortable. I am serious about investing in women's soccer, and I understand the importance of creating a safe and supportive environment for female athletes."
Christen nodded, acknowledging Tobin's apology. "I appreciate that, Miss. Heath. Now, if we could refocus on the investment proposal..."
As they resumed their discussion, Tobin made a conscious effort to keep their interaction strictly professional. Though she was physically attracted to Christen, she was committed to respecting Christen’s boundaries.
Their meeting concluded on a positive note, with Tobin eager to learn more about Christen and Christen eager to expand Angel FC’s brand as the club captain.
