“Here,” Mingyu feels something touch his head, something cool and hard. He looks up from where he’s crouched on the ground, realising that it’s a water bottle.
His eyes follow the arm to the face of the man who’s seemingly offered him this water bottle for no reason whatsoever. His hair falls over his face and his glasses, cheeks slightly flushed as he looks down at Mingyu.
“Huh?” Mingyu blinks, “can I help you?” he asks and the man tilts his head, “you look drunk. You should drink some water,”
Mingyu’s taken aback by the concern in his voice. He licks his lips, you look drunker than I do, so..
But he chooses his words carefully. He decides to accept the water bottle, “I’m not drunk,” he says, watching as the man squats next to him, eyes glued to the ground. He seems a little disoriented. Mingyu just sighs. He doesn’t have time for this.
“If you’re not drunk then why are you crouching here?” the man asks and Mingyu turns to him. When their eyes lock, Mingyu contemplates. Should he tell him? This is a stranger he just met in the back alley of a club. A stranger who drunkenly offered him some water.
Mingyu takes a deep breath.
Oh, what the hell.
“My ex is in there,” he confesses, rubbing his face. The man hums, “so?”
Mingyu scoffs, “he’s in there with the girl he told me not to worry about when we were dating so…”
“Oh you’re gay?” The man asks instantly.
“That’s what you got from that information?” Mingyu asks, slightly offended and the man shrugs, “it’s the only thing that stuck out to me,”
MIngyu huffs, “why did you even ask me, dude,” he buries his face in his palms as the man hums, “I don't know you. Why should I console you?”
The nerve —
“Yeah, well, I didn't ask you to console me! Plus, you gave me this bottle even though you clearly need it more than I do,” he shoves the bottle into the man’s chest. Mingyu groans, rubbing his temples, “I should go home and sleep it off,” he grumbles, standing up. But he can't bring himself to simply walk away. He looks down at the man next to his feet, drunkenly holding onto that water bottle.
Mingyu clenches his fists, looking around.
Where are this guy’s friends?
He looks down at the man again, surprised to see him already looking at him.
“Sorry,” the man says, “that was rude of me,”
His apology takes him by surprise. This guy…Mingyu can't tell what he’s thinking. He doesn't seem like a bad guy though…
Mingyu crouches next to him again, “That’s okay,” he sighs, “you're a stranger. I shouldn't have expected you to console me,”
The man cocks a brow, “so you did expect–”
“You run your mouth a lot, don't you?” Mingyu asks, slapping his hand against that mouth. The man blinks at him through his glasses and lowers his gaze, prompting Mingyu to pull his hand away and sigh.
“Why are you drunk?” Mingyu decides to keep the conversation going. The man hums, playing with the label on the bottle, “My friends pulled me out here and we met up with some guys and…” the man shakes his head, “Yes, I’m gay,” he declares suddenly, turning to MIngyu, who just snorts at the man’s honesty. He laughs as the man dumbly blinks at him, “are you homophobic?” he asks and Mingyu laughs louder, “dude, i just told you i was dating a man,”
“Oh ... .right,” the man brings his attention back to the bottle and comfortable silence settles upon them. Mingyu sneaks a glance at the guy next to him, curious as to why he’s drunk. It seems that he isn't the type to get drunk. He wonders what happened with those guys.
“Do you think gaming is boring?” the man asks out of the blue, turning to MIngyu with expectant eyes. MIngyu, put on the spot, just shrugs, “gaming has never interested me so….”
Disappointment settles on the man’s face and he nods, “I see,”
Mingyu puts two and two together and assumes someone called him boring. Well, that sucks. Mingyu clears his throat, “well, gaming is boring but you're not,” he says, prompting the man to look up at him with twinkling eyes, “you think so?”
Mingyu smiles, “I think you're interesting– sorry, what is your name?”
“Wonwoo,” he says immediately and Mingyu chuckles, “Yes. Wonwoo-ssi, I think youre interesting. So don't think about what those guys said, okay?”
Wonwoo just blinks at him, “you're very insightful,” he says. Mingyu smiles, “thank you,” he says, standing up and stretching, “that's why I knew something was up between them,” he scoffs to himself. No matter what he thinks, his thoughts lead back to that jerk.
Mingyu should just go home and sleep it off. He turns to the man next to him, “hey, you should head inside–” but the man grabs the fabric of his pants, “do you want to take revenge?”
Mingyu frowns, “what?”
The man stands up, taking the hand that Mingyu offers to do so. He dusts his pants and then his hands, turning to Mingyu, “you should go back in and show your ex you don't care even though you clearly do,”
Mingyu pops a vein, “yah, you–”
“Hold on,” Wonwoo says, removing his glasses and placing them securely in his pocket. MIngyu watches curiously as he runs his hand through his hair, and then turns to Mingyu. Mingyu hates to admit the fact that with his hair styled, Wonwoo looks like a different person, and that it makes Mingyu’s heart skip a beat. Mingyu averts his gaze, flustered. Perhaps he’s drunk too after all.
“Look here,” Wonwoo says, holding Mingyu’s chin and turning him to face him. Mingyu swallows because like this, Wonwoo looks very….good.
“I am,” Mingyu clears his throat and Wonwoo lowers his hand to grab Mingyu’s, dragging him inside. MIngyu struggles, “yah, wait, what–” he stutters as they make it past the bouncers and towards the bar.
“I've been told I’m a catch,” Wonwoo blatantly admits, and Mingyu can't help but scoff at the man, “you–”
“So, if your ex sees you with a catch, he’ll get jealous, right?” Wonwoo halts, and Mingyu collides with him softly, steadying himself. His face is so close to Wonwoo’s and he tries to take a step back but Wonwoo keeps him in place, “are you in or out?” he asks.
Mingyu can hear his heart beat loudly in his ears, and he looks away from Wonwoo’s handsome face and into the crowd, where he instantly spots Jaewon with Eunbin. Anger fills Mingyu at the sight and he turns to Wonwoo, “I’m in,” he agrees and Wonwoo smiles and Mingyu ignores the way his heart races at that.
“Can I kiss you?” Wonwoo asks and Mingyu gasps, “I–yeah, sure,” he clears his throat, eyes floating over to Jaewon and Eunbin again. God, seeing the two of them is so…..
“But they're not looking,” Mingyu says, only for Wonwoo to hold his chin and make him face him again, “they will,” he says. And before Mingyu can process his words, Wonwoo takes a glass from the bar and tosses it onto the ground, shattering it effectively and creating a loud sound. And all of a sudden, all eyes are on Mingyu and Wonwoo, and before Mingyu can say anything, Wonwoo grabs his collar and yanks him down for a kiss.
The first thought that erupts in Mingyu’s mind is that Wonwoo is indeed drunk, seeing how his lips taste like beer. After that, Mingyu loses track of his thoughts, of where they are and who’s watching because Wonwoo’s lips are simply tantalizing. For a second, he hesitates to hold Wonwoo but when the man slithers his fingers into Mingyu’s hair, he lets go of his inhibitions and wraps his arms around the man, pulling him flush against himself as their lips lock in a fiery blaze.
When Wonwoo parts his lips invitingly, Mingyu slides his tongue in eagerly, hungrily, strangely addicted to the way Wonwoo tastes. When their tongues collide, Mingyu realises Wonwoo’s probably had some wine as well. Wonwoo makes a sound in the back of his throat, his fingers clutching the strands of Mingyu’s hair when Mingyu sucks on his tongue. Wonwoo fights back, navigating through the sensitive areas on Mingyu’s scalp, massaging him with his fingers, making him moan into their messy kiss.
It's only the lack of oxygen that compels them to finally break apart, berating heavily as they open their eyes to look at each other. Mingyu swallows. Wonwoo’s face is redder now, especially the area around his lips. Out of breath, his eyes look moist. So…gorgeous…
“Are they looking?” Wonwoo leans in and whispers.
Mingyu had almost forgotten the goal of this little show and sneaks a glance at Jaewon and Eunbin, who seem to have recognised MIngyu, watching with their jaws on the floor. Satisfaction floods his gut and he turns to Wonwoo, smirking, “with their jaws on the floor,” he pulls Wonwoo closer, making the other man smile.
For a second after their eyes lock, Mingyu feels the need to lean in and capture those addicting lips again. But suddenly, there is someone next to him, grabbing Wonwoo’s wrist, “Hey, Wonwoo,” the man says and Mingyu frowns, pulling away. Wonwoo stares at him blankly as the man flushes, “You didn't come back inside and I was worried. I just…about what I said before…I’m sorry. It turns out you're quite….adventurous,” he says, sneaking a glance at Mingyu. Mingyu deduces that this dude is probably the one that called Wonwoo boring.
“So…” the man tugs at Wonwoo’s arm, “let's continue chatting, hm?”
Wonwoo does not resist, drunk out of his mind but Mingyu keeps his hold on Wonwoo, “Im sorry,” he pulls Wonwoo to his side, “he’s coming home with me, right?” he turns to Wonwoo, who stares at him silently. And then, he smiles, “yeah,”
“Excuse us,” Mingyu clears his throat, but not before putting some money on the counter, “sorry for your glass!” and with that said, the two run out of the club hand in hand.
Once free from the suffocation and the music, once a few doors down the bar, the two stop, catching their breaths.
“That…was amazing!” Mingyu exclaims, letting go of Wonwoo’s hand, “did you see the look on their faces? Fuck! I've never felt so good!” Mingyu celebrates as Wonwoo hiccups, “you haven't thanked me yet,” he says.
Mingyu turns to him, “oh, right, I–” but before he can finish talking, Wonwoo stumbles and….
Throws up all over him.
—
“NO!” Wonwoo awakes the next day, gasping for breath first thing in the morning as his mind delivers the memories of the previous night to him in the form of a dream – no, a nightmare.
“You up?” a voice calls, and Wonwoo turns to Soonyoung, who’s putting on his shoes, ready already.
“I…..yes,” Wonwoo slouches, rubbing his temple. This godforsaken hangover –
“Do you have any idea what you did last night?” Soonyoung asks and Wonwoo chokes on his spit, thoroughly embarrassed, “just….spare me today, Soonyoung-ah,” he says, lowering his head in shame. He knows what he did! He doesn't want to think about it!
“Fine, I’ll nag you about it tomorrow. Get ready for now, we’re getting late,” he says and Wonwoo sighs. As he gets off the bed and heads to the restroom, he can only thank the gods above that he doesn't have to run into that man ever again.
--
“Hey, when are you going to return the jacket you threw up all over?”
Wonwoo’s worst nightmare has just become a reality. The man from last night apparently goes to the same university as him, and has successfully tracked him down. And he’s come to demand his jacket back! He was going to wash it and send it over to him via Soonyoung but apparently the Universe had other plans for him.
“I..um….” Wonwoo doesn't even know this man’s name and he made out with him in front of everyone and threw up on him! Wonwoo should never be allowed near alcohol ever again!
“I’m Mingyu by the way,” the man says, tilting his head to look at Wonwoo, who had averted his gaze. Wonwoo bites his lips, “About yesterday, I'm sorry. I will uber you the jacket. You already left your number with Soonyoung, right? See you!” Wonwoo tries to walk away but the man grabs his wrist and yanks him back to his side, “No i want you to get it to me,” he says. Wonwoo pops a vein on his forehead, “You..take the hint, will you? I don't want to be around you,”
Mingyu just hums, “is it because of the kiss or the throwing up–” Wonwoo slaps his hands to Mingyu’s lips, “yah, you idiot–”
“If it's because of the throwing up, dont worry about it. My little sister used to throw up on me all the time so I'm used to it,” Mingyu says, grabbing Wonwoo’s wrist and lowering his hand, but not letting go.
“However,” Mingyu clears his throat and leans closer, “if you're embarrassed because of the kiss, good because I haven't stopped thinking about it either,” he whispers in his ear, and a chill runs down Wonwoo’s spine. He can feel his cheeks warm up as Mingyu pulls away, smirking, “so, how about a cup of coffee?”
Is Wonwoo being asked out by this gorgeous man?
“I…I don't drink coffee,” he says and MIngyu cocks his brows, “how about a date at the arcade?”
It's embarrassing how quickly Wonwoo folds, looking up at MIngyu with sparkly eyes. There is no denying this has intrigued him. Mingyu just smiles, “ah, you're so obvious, its cute,”
Wonwoo looks away, flustered, “are you going to keep teasing me like this?”
Mingyu shrugs, “yes. You look cute when you're red,”
Oh my god!
“Look, the person I was yesterday,” Wonwoo wants to clear this up, “that is not the real me, okay? So if you're asking me out hoping to see that me, you'll be disappointed,”
Wonwoo expects Mingyu to back off immediately, but the latter simply surprises him.
“So, arcade tonight?”
“Did you not listen to what I said–”
“Look, yes I had fun with you last night. But I'm having fun just talking to you as well, okay? Trust my feelings, will ya?” Mingyu says, a red hue settling on his cheeks. Wonwoo gasps softly, mesmerized by the sight.
“Cute,” he lets it slip and the blush on Mingyu’s face intensifies, a smile gracing his handsome features, “ah, you're teasing me now,”
Wonwoo licks his lips and bites back a smile, “if that's the case then….arcade tonight?”
MIngyu smiles, almost blindingly, “sure thing,”
Ah, Wonwoo’s never been more thankful for getting himself drunk before.
“I'll pick you up after class,” Mingyu clears his throat and Wonwoo nods, “okay,”
The taller man looks around for a second before leaning in to press a kiss on Wonwoo’s forehead, startling the man, “Yah–”
Mingyu winks and runs away, “see you later!”
Wonwoo’s left with a racing heart and a warm forehead.
Ah.
So this is what awaits Wonwoo if things go well with Mingyu?
He’s not against it.
Wonwoo smiles to himself and heads to class, eagerly awaiting tonight.
