“Janis, shut up,” Regina said. She stopped and Janis didn’t look up but forced herself to stop too. “Don’t you think you can do better than a suicidal bully?”

Janis shot up. “Hey, what the fuck? You can’t even—”

“So shut up, right?” Regina said. Janis swallowed. Fuck, Regina had pretty eyes. “Listen, if I’m not just some bitch who tried to kill herself a few times, then you’re not an ugly loser. Deal? Either way we deserve each other.”

“Can I kiss you?”

“No,” Regina crossed her arms. “Ask me out first.”

“Will you go out with me?”

“Fine,” Regina sighed. “You know I was gonna say no a second time because you rejected me twice but you’ve been such a—” Janis kissed her, and with the way Regina’s hands melted against her skin under her crop top, it didn’t seem like she minded too much.

Regina’s mom rented out a massive stretch limo, and was in the process of making sure everyone had a full glamor shot before they got in.

Regina growled at her a few times, before giving up and was now attempting to shorten Janis’s lifespan as much as possible. She started with a hand on the small of her back, then moved it down. When Janis adjusted, she’d sling her arm around Janis’s shoulder, so her tit pressed into Janis’s cheek.

They weren’t even out to Regina’s mother yet for god’s sake.

Aaron and Cady weren’t technically going together either. Aaron was going with Damian, of course, but Cady and Aaron kept taking photos together and blushing and smiling at each other. Damian had taken Cady’s spot with Gretchen and Karen who wouldn’t stop taking selfies.

“One last group one!” Mrs. George called and Regina groaned next to her but moved so they could all be in frame. The blue dress she was wearing really made her eyes pop, and Janis had bought a blue tie she’d change into in the limo to match her.

“We’re gonna miss our reservation,” Regina told her.

“They’ll hold it for you,” Mrs. George waved a hand. “Now, one with me too!”

“Mom!”

The restaurant was far too expensive but Regina managed to intimidate her way into a bottle of wine for the table. Her hand was warm on Janis’s thigh, Janis wanted to press up against her for the rest of time. Honestly, she didn’t even need to go to the Spring Fling, she just wanted to spend a night with Regina alone. Uh. Hugging.

The gym was loud and decked out with Damian’s decor. He dragged her to the photo booth while Regina rolled her eyes and pulled Gretchen to the dance floor. Cady and Aaron tried to slow dance to a Megan Thee Stallion song.

It wasn’t long before the gym got suffocating, and she went to take a breather outside. The vaping inside had turned it into a greenhouse, and the first breath of night air was heaven on her lungs.

“There you are,” Regina moved a strand of hair off her forehead, glistening for all the world like an angel.

God, when had Janis gotten so lucky? Could it be considered luck? Fate? Destiny?

“You weren’t out here with anyone, were you?” Regina demanded.

So it wasn’t luck, for sure.

“Do you see anyone with me?” Janis asked. Regina rolled her eyes.

“Whatever, you’ve been dodging me all night.”

“No, we’ve been dancing with our friends,” Janis corrected.

Regina made a face. “One slow song, some decent photos for Instagram, and then we’re going to the hotel room my mom booked for us.”

“Wait, your mom—”

“She booked it for Shane and I,” Regina waved a hand. She raised her eyebrows and advanced on Janis.

Janis didn’t hesitate, pressing in tight and pushing Regina against the wall of the school, feeling Regina’s waist against her hands, her lips against her lips. The soft gasp of breath, the sweet moan of realization, the way Regina’s hands pressed in her hair.

“Or we could go to the hotel room now,” Janis said.

Regina smiled, not a smirk but that genuine smile she only wore on special occasions. “I really wanna dance with you.” Janis smiled back and Regina scoffed. “Jerk.”

“We could dance right here, where it doesn’t smell like bubblegum vape clouds.”

“It still smells like bubblegum vape clouds,” Regina says. “Plus I can’t hear the music.”

Janis smirked. “Wow, so high maintenance. Fine.” She interlaced their fingers and moved towards the door.

“At least I’m not the one who can’t get out of bed whenever I get a wittle sad,” Regina shot back.

“No, you just shot gun sleeping pills,” Janis said.

“It’s not like I had an actual shotgun,” Regina said.

Janis rolled her eyes and they went back into the belly of the beast, music pounding.

They weren't two steps in before Regina spun her and she landed in her arms, wrapped around each other on the dance floor, as they blasted 22 by Taylor Swift.

They danced to ABBA, Victoria Monet, and Ariana Grande. Ed Sheeran came on so they could finally sit as Cady and Aaron sucked face and Damian held Karen back, attempting to explain to her that Aaron was actually straight. Gretchen found a cute boy to slink around and Janis put her head on Regina’s shoulder.

“Hey, no fair, you’re the boy lesbian,” Regina said.

“No way,” Janis said. “You’re the taller one.”

“It’s not my fault you’re bad at being a boy lesbian, I can’t be the boy lesbian, I’m better at makeup.”

“You are so not.”

“I so am.”

“Are you saying my makeup looks bad right now?” Janis asked.

Regina kissed her. Janis held her waist, curling around her, feeling her perfume envelope her more soundly than the bubble gum managed.

“Your lipstick’s a little messed up,” Regina whispered.

Janis smirked. “Yeah, you wanna say that I’m the boy lesbian? Put your head on my shoulder. Try it.”

“What if I put my head between your legs instead?”

Janis felt her whole body heat up. “But the um—Instagram did—you wanted to—”

Regina stood up and Janis followed at her heels,

They scrambled into the waiting limo, and scrambled past the hotel front desk.

“Wanna empty out the mini-fridge?” Janis asked.

“Get on the bed,” Regina said. Janis got on the bed.

Regina held her down, grinning like a shark. Her lips moved up and down her neck, bruises falling like rain, and Janis pressed forward, pressed into it, straining against her hold.

“If you don’t take off your dress, I’m gonna die,” Janis gasped out.

“Well, we can’t have that, can we?” Regina said. She swept her hair to one side and arched an eyebrow. “Help me with the zipper, baby?”

Janis’s hands didn’t tremble as she pulled the zipper down, and she was surprised to find she wasn’t nervous at all. She felt the same way she did before she finished a painting, when there were just a couple more strokes to go. Her hand was sure, steady, and she swept Regina’s straps off her shoulders, unbuckled her bra, pulled her to the bed.

Regina looked up at her and Janis moved to straddle her.

“I love you, you know,” Janis said.

“I love you too,” Regina’s voice was soft, and Janis moved a lock of her hair away from her face. Regina smiled and her hands moved to the buttons of Janis’s shirt. Janis grinned and kissed her, enjoying the way Regina’s hands stumbled, stuttered, and only managed to get her shirt half off before she was pressing into her hair, and moaning as Janis slotted a leg for Regina to grind against.

“I love you,” Regina whispered again. “I love you.”

“That’s it,” Janis said. “There we go. Can I take off your underwear?”

Regina nodded.

Janis slid them off, Regina kicking them off in the same motion.

“What do you want?” Janis asked. “My mouth or—what do you like?”

“Just touch me,” Regina said. She grabbed Janis by the shoulders and pulled her in again.

Janis’s hands moved down and scratched at the inside of Regina’s thighs, enjoying the smoothness, the soft way her skin pressed against her fingers. She brushed against Regina’s clit, almost clumsy, but there was nothing clumsy about the hiss Regina let out, eyes widening and hands clamping down on Janis’s shoulders. Regina grinded against her, and Janis smirked.

“Shut up,” Regina muttered.

“I didn’t say anything,” Janis retorted, and Regina pressed her into another kiss.

Janis pressed harder, testing the waters, and Regina sunk into it, grinding against her fingers, practically doing the work as Janis rubbed her clit.

“Fuck, this is so much better than Shane,” Regina muttered. “And Aaron.”

“Don’t talk about men right now,” Janis advised, pressing into her lips, a stuttering uncoordinated kiss.

“If you don’t get inside me I’m gonna kill you,” Regina answered.

“Better,” Janis said. She slipped in and Regina’s mouth opened, her entire body seized in a gasp, she went still as Janis crooked her finger, her thumb still playing with the clit.

“Do that again,” Regina said.

“Go in again?”

“No, the other thing.”

“Play with your clit?”

“No, the other other thing.”

Janis crooked her finger again and Regina rolled her body. Janis pressed her down into the bed and got to work, kneeling at Regina’s feet, and curling and uncurling her fingers. Regina’s whole body stuttered with every move, her eyes wide, pupils taking over the blue.

“Having fun?”

Regina managed a nod, and Janis smirked, slipping in another finger. Regina was so wet she probably could’ve slipped in her whole fist before Regina noticed.

“Don’t stop playing with my clit,” Regina stuttered out, her voice strained.

“I’m not sure you’re the one to be giving orders right now,” Janis said. Her thumb swimped around it regardless, watching as the closer she got the more Regina seemed to twitch, the harder it got for her to breathe.

“Faster,” Regina said. “Harder.”

Janis followed, watching as Regina’s entire body tensed, hands gripping sheets, knuckles white, eyes screwing shut—

Janis stopped. Regina’s eyes snapped open and she focused a glare on Janis.

“What the actual—”

Janis returned with a third finger and Regina let out a scream. Their poor neighbors.

Janis only slowed as Regina’s breath did, timing it with the exhales. She slid out and wiped her fingers on a nearby tissue. There was a puddle under this girl. She was so in love.

“Do you think room service would do a late night switch of the sheets?” Janis asked.

“Huh?” Regina asked. Her eyes were still shut, her hands slowly releasing the sheets, the headboard. Janis watched her.

She was so pretty like this, this might be the prettiest she’d ever looked. Her hair was all messed up, her lipstick smudged, her entire face bright red. Janis wanted to get down on one knee right then and there, and she hadn’t even had a turn yet.

She opened the mini bar and pulled out one of those little water bottles.

“You should hydrate.”

Regina thrust a hand out, waiting for Janis to place it in her hand. When she did, Regina’s thumb passed over the top. “Why didn’t you open it for me?”

“My apologies, princess,” Janis muttered. She opened it, pressing it back into her hand. Regina took a few sips and finally opened her eyes, putting the bottle on the bedside table.

“Decent,” she shrugged, and sat up.

Janis raised an eyebrow. “Decent.”

“You heard me,” Regina said. “Your clit work needs some practice, and honestly I could’ve come for longer, you stopped too soon.”

“Excuse me for respecting the limits of human stamina,” Janis rolled her eyes.

“Oh,” Regina pulled Janis back in by the belt loop. “Trust me. You’ll know when I’ve hit my limit.”

“Don’t I get a turn?” Janis asked, a leg already swinging on the bed.

“Earn it,” Regina snapped, pulling her hair and pulling her closer.

Janis almost laughed, she would’ve, if Regina hadn’t immediately pushed her down, forcing her eye level with something more important.

The next morning they slinked out, hands linked. Half of Regina’s neck was black and blue, and Janis’s jaw wouldn’t be able to close right for a week. She lived a charmed life.

“I’m working on the Instagram post,” Regina said in the car, hand dangerously high up Janis’s thigh, other hand swiping away on Janis’s phone. “Why is some girl named Grace in your DMs? Never mind, I already blocked her. Why do you have this photo of me in your phone?” She showed a photo of the two of them at a movie night Cady had recently hosted. “I’m deleting it.”

“Wanna get married?” Janis asked. “Because I think I might be pregnant.”

“You’re not pregnant.”

“No, I don’t think I could’ve left that hotel room without a baby. I think I’m pregnant now.”

“You’re not pregnant.”

“I’m definitely pregnant.”

“What do you think of this photo?” Regina asked, not bothering to show the phone. “I’m posting it. Then that slut Grace will get out of your DMs.”

“She’s in my bio class, we’re lab partners.”

“She asked when your next study session was,” Regina said. “And if she should bring pencils.”

“Yes,” Janis said.

“Whatever, she’s a slut.” Regina pressed post and gave Janis back her phone. Janis didn’t bother looking at it.

She gazed at Regina, her heart no longer beating, instead in the palm of Regina’s hand as Regina complained about the makeup it would take to fix her neck, and how badly she needed a shower, and Janis wouldn’t even be in the shower with her and on and on and on.

And yes, in the back of her mind, Janis knew Regina was a person. She wasn’t literally holding Janis’s heart, she was going to screw up and hurt Janis, they were both going to hurt each other. And maybe it was high school puppy love, maybe it’s what happens when you toss your virginity out the window to a girl so pretty she did car commercials in Japan. Maybe they’d break up next week.

“Stop staring at me, you little freak,” Regina snapped. She grabbed Janis’s hand and kissed the top of it. “You’re so gross.”

But maybe not.

Notes:

okay so what happened was how do i continue a story about what if my ex needed me more than i needed her if im no longer dating that ex, so i was stuck with this chapter half written for like months, and id chip away and stuff and then finally i was on the phone w my editor and she suggested a diff way to end it

which i still might write as like another epilogue, like that ending would take place two years after this one,

but i realized that would just be me writing more of what i wished had happened w my ex, and like, she just texted me for no reason recently, and im pissed as fuck, so instead i wrote the way i felt about her, and tried to capture how absolutely devoted i was to her. anyway, if anyone wants to date me,,,,,,, not me having a crush on a rejanis writer in 2025,,,,,, but u could get someone who'd be so obsessed with you.

anyway, do you want the second epilogue? was this update even good? why can't the ending be happy is gonna update soon too btw

oh and if ppl want the pinterest board i'll add that to the update w the epilogue 2 if ppl want it.
