Work Text:
Enid Sinclair was shit at skating.
Thank the moon goddess for werewolf genetics and accelerated healing because otherwise the girl would be covered head to toe in injuries. Speaking of which, she had just gotten over a broken toe. It was quick to heal, a whole twenty-four hours, but it hurt like hell.
She refused to give up though. She spent so much time in the school, practicing for the play, painting the set, leading the student body government. Nevermore was old as hell too, dusty and dreary, breathing in all that dust and being shut out from nature was not good for her spirit, or health. Which is why she had asked Ajax, a few weeks ago, to teach her how to skateboard.
He swore that she was making progress, but she didn’t believe him. Like, at all.
Scraped elbows, cut open knees and shins, broken toes, and a bruised bum and thighs could really undermine a person’s confidence.
Wednesday had once called her graceful. Wednesday had yet to see her on a skateboard.
Enid took a deep breath, and Ajax stood across the bowl with his thumbs up in a silent push of confidence.
This was the fifth time Enid had tried to go across the bowl, just today, and still he was cheering her on.
She stood steady on the board, bent her knees and pushed off the edge.
It all went so fast, wind in her hair and her stomach dropping as if she was on a rollercoaster. She pushed herself off a little more, and she popped back up on the other side.
She was breathless, she did it! She stood in shock for a minute, breathing heavily and staring ahead. Ajax came to her, clapping and congratulating her.
“You did it!” He said with excitement and a little pride in his voice.
“I did it” She grinned “Oh my god, I did it!”
“I told you that you could!” He told her.
“I can’t believe that I did that” She said, it had felt amazing. She finally did it.
“Wanna do it again?” He asked
“Yes!” She told him, bouncing on her heels in excitement, forgetting that one of her feet was still on the skateboard. It slid out from under her and she fell backwards, she tried to keep herself up as she slid on her feet back into the bowl. She knew from experience that hitting her head on the hard concrete would give her the worst headache ever, maybe even a concussion.
Enid stayed upright, somehow, but when she finally came to a stop her legs were practically doing the splits. She heard a loud tearing sound and her heart dropped, just as her stomach had done moments before.
“Shit” Ajax said, covering his eyes while still laughing at her. “Are you okay?”
“I’m fine” Enid said “The only thing wounded is my ego”
“Sounds about right” Ajax said, he moved his hand from his face but his eyes were still squeezed tightly shut. He began unbuttoning his pants.
“What are you doing?” Enid asked when she noticed him shimmying out of them. She was now shutting her own eyes on reflex. This was the most awkward thing that had ever happened to her. Which is really, really saying a lot.
“Here” He said to her, she heard the air shift as he tossed something, she peaked through her fingers and saw his jeans laying on the ground a few feet in front of her.
“What?” Enid asked
“Put them on” He instructed
“So that you can just walk around without pants on?” She asked
“I’m a dude, dudes walk around in their boxers all of the time”
“I-“ He was sort of correct, but it would still be really weird, and- oh god. Oh god, they would have to walk through campus like this. She would have to drive them back to Nevermore, hide the car that they weren’t technically allowed to have, and then walk to and through Nevermore like this.
It came down to two options, whether she wanted to have everyone see her in her ripped pants and underwear, or in Ajax’s pants while he walked around in his boxers.
She really should’ve never taken up skating.
“Enid” Ajax said “You might want to change quickly in case other people start showing up.
“Yeah” Enid squeaked. Of all the things she had considered, that wasn’t one of them. She quickly retrieved Ajax’s jeans and changed into them.
Standing pantless in the bowl of the skate park was surely the longest minute of her entire seventeen years of life.
Enid buttoned Ajax’s pants and grabbed her pink belt out of her own before fastening it around her waist to keep the jeans in place. They were actually quite comfortable.
“I’m good” Enid told him. He opened his eyes and grimaced. “What?” She asked as she grabbed her board and began walking back up the side of the bowl.
“My eyes are adjusting to the sun” He told her, bending down to grab her hand and help pull her up. She was trying hard to avoid looking at him.
“Thanks” She told him “And thanks for the pants”
“It’s cool” He said “So, i’m thinking we should head home early”
“Definitely” She nodded. Ajax grabbed his board and backpack, Enid grabbed her water bottle and tote bag before they rushed to the car.
They closed their doors quickly and threw their stuff in the back seat. Enid accidentally met his eyes, she could see the smile in his.
They couldn’t help it anymore, they automatically burst out into laughter. Enid was laughing so hard that her ribs hurt and Ajax was wheezing. Enid attempted to take a deep breath but the laughter was too much, she snorted and Ajax laughed harder.
“I can’t breathe!” He complained, she nodded, very much knowing the feeling. “You are the clumsiest person I have ever met”
“Hey! That is not fair. I once saw you trip over a penny!” Enid argued.
“I was high!”
“When are you not?” She asked, they were both still weak with giggles.
“Right now, and you are the one who ripped her pants”
“Jax stop, I'm genuinely so upset about that. They were one of my favorite pairs” She smiled and leaned against the seat in exasperation.
“I don’t doubt that you can fix them” He told her as he pulled the auxiliary cord out from under himself and untwisted it from around the car's gear shift and Enid’s pink hydroflask.
“Yeah, but look” She said, turning around to grab them from the back seat. “The entire inseam is ripped out, and it was kind of violent so the fabric is torn and frayed” She pointed out what she was speaking about as she explained it to him.
“Well, even if you can’t fix it you know that all you have to do is ask and Wednesday will get you a new pair” Ajax said, his eyebrows wiggling up and down.
It was a conversation he had overheard months ago, Enid explaining to her girlfriend that she didn’t need constant extravagant gifts.
“I’m going to try to fix them” Enid sighed, her thumb running over the torn white fabric. “Maybe I can restitch it up with a bright pink color” Ajax smiled at her, about to say something when they heard voices, kids showing up to the park with their skateboards and rollerblades. A teenage boy sitting in a hearse in only boxers, a t-shirt, and a beanie would be a very bad look.
“We should get out of here” He suggested, Enid was already turning the car on.
The closest skatepark to Nevermore was two towns away, a four and a half hour walk, but only a fifteen minute drive. Which is why Enid was driving Wednesday’s hearse. She honestly drove it more often than Wednesday did. When Wednesday had first bought it Enid had suspected that she had done so specifically for her. Enid had just gotten her license a month or so prior, and Wednesday had never gotten her own. Claiming that she had been driving for years without one, why should she get one now, and that it was a waste of time and energy.
Enid had to agree when Wednesday said that the DMV was torture, and not the kind that was fascinating.
Ajax played his music and they both sang along, he had playlists curated towards the tastes of all of his friends and ones for their group gatherings.
Enid hummed and tapped her fingers against the steering wheel as she pulled into the driveway of an abandoned house, not far from Nevermore. She clicked a button on the sun visor and the garage door opened. She pulled in and shut the car off.
“Hey” Ajax said
“Yeah?”
“Make sure that I get those back” He gestured to the pants.
“Of course” She smiled back.
They grabbed their things, locked up the car, closed the garage, and began their trek back to school.
“This is going to be so embarrassing” Enid said, Ajax smiled. She knew that he didn’t care about appearances in the way that she did.
He pulled the broken edges of the fence away from each other, letting her crawl through, and then she did the same for him.
“Damn, I got mud on my knees” He complained
“That you worry about? Not walking through campus nearly half naked?” She asked with a grin.
“Nobody will even be back here” He told her “Nobody will see us, and if they do it’s because they know about the gap in the fence”
“Mutually assured destruction” Enid smiled as they came up on Eugene’s bee shed. Ajax laughed at her attempt of making a devious face and as he did the shed’s door popped open.
“Shit” He mumbled, Eugene walked out and Wednesday was behind him, she saw them immediately and raised her eyebrows.
“Howdy roomie” Enid said, trying not to grimace.
“Where are your pants?” Eugene asked, he had seen Ajax leave earlier and the man was definitely wearing pants then.
“On Enid” Ajax replied
“Wednesday I swear that I have a perfectly normal explanation” Enid said, prepared to defend herself. She should know by now that Wednesday trusts her more than anyone.
“I don’t doubt that you do” Wednesday told her “Are you alright?” Enid smiled and nodded her head.
“Guess what I did” Enid asked, Wednesday tipped her head in a way that Enid knew meant to go on. She bounced over to her girlfriend and Wednesday reached for her hand like it was second nature. It was. “I finally got across the bowl!”
“Congratulations, mi amor”

“What about this one?” Divina asked Yoko as she held up a bottle of Enid’s nail lacquer.
Yoko’s face scrunched in decision before ultimately deciding “No, darker”
“Hmm?” Divina asked, holding up a different bottle, the one Wednesday once referred to as being a ‘dried blood’ color. Enid’s own nails were currently drying and in the shade of a ‘two day old contusion’. Enid smiled softly at her friends, she had a long day but she was glad to finally be able to have a night with all of her girls. She leaned back into her girlfriend, her head resting on the fronts of Wednesday’s shins. Wednesday sat her book on her crossed legs and reached her now free hand out to tangle into Enid’s soft hair. Her nails gently scratched Enid’s scalp and a shiver ran down her spine.
Divina carefully painted Yoko’s nails as Bianca took a break from drawing to scroll through her phone, looking for a song to play on the speakers as they all took turns adding things to the queue.
“Do you have a pen?” She asked Enid
“There is one on my desk” Wednesday offered
“Make sure you put it right back where you got it” Enid told her “Wednesday likes things to be orderly”
Said girl’s fingers slightly tugged at Enid’s hair in appreciation or acknowledgement.
Enid’s phone pinged and she glanced at the notification, she really didn't want to move. She was warm and comfortable and tired and content. The notification informed her that their pizza had arrived. She sighed as she sat up and texted the driver that she was on her way down.
“Food’s here” Enid announced as she stood up, Wednesday's hand that had been Enid’s hair was now tugging at her hand. Enid looked back at her with a soft smile.
“Do you want me to go get it?” Wednesday asked, she always saw Enid for exactly what she was and exactly what she needed.
“That's alright, but I wouldn't mind the company if you wanted to come with me” Enid said as she slipped her sneakers on.
Wednesday closed her book and pulled her own shoes on, over her black and pink fuzzy socks, ones she had borrowed from Enid a month or so ago when the weather started turning cold. She had yet to give them back but Enid thought it only to be fair, she was currently wearing one of Wednesday’s long sleeve pajama tops over her own lilac tank top.
“Don't take to long, it is your turn to pick a song next” Divina told Enid
“Don't take my turn” She instructed the three of them as Wednesday held the door open for her like a gentleman. The first time Enid had called her that Wednesday blushed violently. Enid bounced through the doorway and the door shut behind them as they walked down the stairs of Ophelia hall. Enid tangled her hand into Wednesday’s and pulled her closer. Wednesday was just a step higher, making her slightly taller than Enid which was quite rare. “Hey” she said softly.
“Hi” Wednesday repeated, Enid’s arms snuck around the smaller girls waist and she quickly kissed the corner of her lips. Wednesday hummed before correcting her, moving slightly so that their lips met. Perfect, like pieces of a puzzle fitting together, like a broken vase pieced back together. Not a single missing shard, just lips that were meant to fit and hearts that were so opposite that they balanced each other out. Completed each other.
“I love you” Enid said against her girlfriend’s lips. Wednesday had a hint of a smile on her face, just enough that her dimples were showing. Enid kissed either side of her face, no doubt leaving shimmery pink lip gloss on Wednesday’s face. Pink lip gloss that had a strawberry flavor, Wednesday used to hate strawberries. Just as she once hated pink, just as she hated noise, it now reminded her of her girlfriend. Wednesday now finds the flavor of strawberries enjoyable.
“I love you” Wednesday said, kissing her lips a final time before Enid regretfully pulled away. She didn't want the delivery person waiting out in the cold for long. They stayed attached to each other, Wednesday’s hand in Enid’s. Even when carrying the food back, which made that quite an ordeal. The girls were nothing if not stubborn.
Enid pushed their bedroom door open with her foot, their friends were no longer in the room, but the bathroom door was open. Enid and Wednesday sat the food boxes and case of soda on Enid’s desk before going to see what was happening.
The room stunk of acetone and as Enid stepped into the bathroom she realized why. Bianca sat on the edge of the bathtub with judgment in her eyes and a smirk on her lips while Yoko and Divina stood at the sink, scrubbing a pair of black jeans with a paper towel and acetone, effectively draining the color from them.
“We weren't even gone for ten minutes” Enid complained, Divina jumped, apparently not having heard them. Enid had gotten yelled at for that a few times, apparently Wednesday's sneakiness and shadow like tendencies had rubbed off on her.
“It is Divina’s fault” Yoko said, pointing a finger with a severely messed up coat of red nail polish. It looked as if her fingernail had been ripped away from her finger.
“No way, Bianca distracted me” Divina argued
“How was I supposed to know that you wouldn't put the brush back?” Bianca said, trying to defend herself.
“Hey, are those my pants?” Enid asked, pointing to the jeans that Yoko was now wearing.
“Yeah, sorry. Bianca tried to show Divina something on her phone and Div accidentally knocked the nail polish bottle over onto my pants. Had to borrow these” Yoko explained and Divina had the decency to look apologetic.
“It's fine” Enid sighed “But I love those jeans, I want them back”
“Can you fix these for me?” Yoko asked, holding up the sopping wet pair of black jeans with a bleach orange spot on them.
“I will definitely try”
“Deal” Yoko agreed with a smile.
“It's not a deal, I want my pants back either way” Enid argued.
“You will get them back”
“Divina, make sure your girlfriend gives me my pants back” Enid instructed.
“Wednesday, tell your girlfriend that she will get her jeans back” Yoko said, looking over to Wednesday who was now sitting on the side of the bathtub with Bianca and spectating.
“I will make sure that she does get them back” Wednesday said simpilly and with a monotone voice, still, all the girls in the bathroom knew that it had an underlying threat. At this point though they were all aware that her threats towards their friend group were rarely acted on. Enid only had a little bit to do with that.
“You brought food?” Divina asked as she rinsed her hands of the acetone.
“Yeah, on the desk” Enid said and Divina shimmied past her into the main room “The salad and tea are Wednesday’s” she specified, as if this weren't the billionth time they have had girls night and ordered take out.
—--------------
“Enid” Wednesday said, reminding her girlfriend that they were in a hurry.
“Yup” Enid told her, acknowledging that they really needed to go. “Hold this?” She asked and Wednesday took the bag into her hands while Enid slipped into a jacket.
She grabbed her tote bag and placed it on her shoulder before reaching out to take the other bag back from Wednesday who evadeaded her.
“I've got it” Wednesday told her.
“You've got everything, you should at least let me help carry a little” Enid argued, an argument they've had countless times and that nobody has ever really won. Enid carrying Wednesdays luggage up the multiple flights of stairs in ophelia hall when they got back from summer break, Wednesday carrying Enid’s purse while they were visiting town so that Enid couldn't pay for anything, and those are only a couple instances out of many. “You would think that the one with werewolf strength should be the one to carry the bags” Enid huffed as she closed their bedroom door behind herself.
“Are you underestimating my capabilities?” Wednesday asked with a spark of mischief in her beautiful dark eyes.
“Never, my love” Enid smiled softly, shaking her head at how dramatic Wednesday was. That is saying a lot coming from the queen of drama. Nobody but Wednesday Addams could ever match her.
Enid pulled the front door open for Wednesday to walk through. Today was the first break in the horrible weather they had been having, the snow was long gone and the sun was out and shining. It wouldn't last, but they were going to make the most of it while they could.
Enid took the picnic blanket from off of Wednesday’s shoulder and Thing hopped out of her messenger bag to help Enid spread it out on the ground.
“Is it strange that nobody is here yet, considering that we were late?” Enid asked as she began taking bags from Wednesday’s hands and pulling cushions and snacks out of them, laying them around the blanket.
“Your friends are even less punctual than you are” Wednesday told her, ”Their being late is not unusual”.
“Our friends” Enid corrected, with a kiss to her girlfriend's nose. She shoved the empty bags into her tote bag and sat down on the blanket, patting the spot bedside her for Wednesday to sit too. Enid reached into her bag and handed Wednesday her current book. “What's it about?” Enid asked, placing her head on top of Wednesday’s.
“It is a book written by a forensic scientist, describing how environmental factors affect human decomposition” Wednesday explained as she sat the book beside her, more interested in Enid.
“You’ve been very into forensic science lately”
“I’ve always been ‘very into’ forensic science”
“I know” Enid smiled “But over the last couple months all of the books you’ve read have been forensics based”
“I think I am going to study it, in college. I want to be a forensic anthropologist”
“Yeah?” Enid asked, excitement in her voice. Always supporting Wednesday in everything that she did.
“Yes” Wednesday said, looking into sparkling blue eyes.
“You know, Columbia has a great forensic science program” She said, wiggling her eyebrows.
“You knew that I wanted to study forensics” She stated, “You researched programs?”
“I had a feeling” Enid smiled. “And Columbia also has a great social work program”
“We would go together”
“Everywhere” She nodded “Do you think we could be roommates again?”
“We are not living in a student dorm”
“We aren’t?”
“You want an apartment, with big windows and you want to get pets. A cat and a dog”
“Well yeah, but I was going to wait until after college”
“I don’t want to live in another dorm” Wednesday said
“So we’re getting an apartment?”
“Yes”
“Yes” Enid grinned, softly pecking Wednesday’s lips. “Are you excited to have furry pets for once?”
“My tarantulas were quite furry”
“Ew”
“Caesar was not ‘ew’, he was quite the intelligent spider”
“I’m sure he was” Enid said, pulling Wednesday’s hand into her lap and playing with her fingers. “Do you like it?” She gestured to the book beside Wednesday’s lap.
“I've barely began reading it, but it is accurate so far”
“Hmm” Enid smiled “I bet you could do it better”
“You would bet how much?” Wednesday asked
“All of the money that I have” Enid grinned, looking into Wednesday's dark eyes.
“I don't want or need that”
“I know” Enid sighed dramatically, pulling away but not far enough to let go of Wednesday’s hand, and rolling her eyes. “Party pooper”
“Ask me what I do want” Wednesday instructed, a look in her eyes that Enid was becoming incredibly familiar with. So was Thing, apparently, because he scurried back into Wednesday’s bag and zipped it up around himself. Enid breathed a bit of a laugh before focusing back on her girlfriend.
“What do you want, Wednesday?”
“You” She said, her tone flat yet serious and full of adoration.
“You have me” Enid said with a soft smile, this woman was the love of her life.
“Then I am content” Wednesday said easily.
“And I am the luckiest girl alive” Enid grinned, scooting back towards Wednesday and kissing her lips. Wednesday’s free hand found Enid’s jaw and gently traced the scars on her face. While they were healing, nearly a year ago now, her cold hands could always soothe Enid’s irritated skin, now it was simply a habit. A reminder that they were here, they were alive, they had long lives ahead of them, and that they would spend their lives happily together. Enid moved even closer, wrapping her arm around Wednesday’s waist before they heard a sharp whistle.
“Damn, are we interrupting something? We could leave again and come back in fifteen” Yoko said as she and Divina approached.
“You are already quite late” Wednesday bit back, Enid was preoccupied suffering from embarrassment and attempting to will away the deep blush that was staining her cheeks, throat, and ears.
“Yeah, but I brought goods” Yoko grinned as she plopped a bowl of fruit salad down onto the picnic blanket with the snacks Enid and Wednesday had brought.
“I grabbed drinks” Divina said, setting a large bottle of soda and a jug of tea down, with much less enthusiasm than her girlfriend had. She sat down on the blanket and Enid stared. “What?” Divina asked
“I don't know, there's just something that I can't put my finger on” Enid said as Yoko sat and Wednesday looked over Divina.
“Your jeans” Wednesday said, Enid looked down at Divina’s legs and there they were, Enid’s pants which Yoko had promised to give back months ago. The jeans were now dyed black, but she knew that they were hers because she had painted lilies on the seems on each hip. The red lilies were now a deep shade of purple, but they were definitely the ones she painted, affected by the dye Yoko must have used.
“Hey, those are mine” Enid told her “I wanted them back”
“Oh. Oh, that's right” Divina said as she looked down at her own attire. “I just found them in Yoko’s closet, but i'll wash them and get them back to you”
“You dyed them!” Enid accused Yoko.
“In my defense, after you showed me how to dye that other pair of jeans that we accidentally bleached, I went on a dying spree” Yoko explained.
“That is no excuse” Enid said, wagging her finger jokingly, she really didn’t care all that much. They were Ajax’s originally and Enid had painted on them.
“While we are at it, I accidentally ripped a hole here” Yoko said, poking her finger in the small hole in the denim of the jeans her girlfriend was wearing.
“I can patch it” Enid said with an exasperated smile.
“Hello people” Ajax said as he approached them, Eugene and Kent were with him.
Eugene sprinted to sit next to Wednesday.
“It’s done” He said, happily presenting a small frame, in it was a pinned lymantria dispar moth. Wednesday gently took it from him and studied it, Enid leaned over her shoulder to look.
“It is preserved correctly” Wednesday nodded. “A nice specimen, female, judging by the wingspan”
“Isn’t she beautiful” Eugene grinned
“You did a great job pinning it” Enid told him
“Thank you” He said “I learned from the best”
“What is Wednesday not good at?” Bianca asked, she and Lucas being the last of their little group to join.
“Kindness” Yoko offered, earning a kick from Enid. “Shit” She said, backing up. “You’re lucky that I don’t bruise”
“I think that it just means you don’t have any proof that I did anything” Enid offered.
“We have multiple witnesses who just saw you kick me” She argued.
“I didn’t witness anything” Wednesday told her, Enid kissed her hand.
“Of course you didn’t” Yoko glared.
“Me either” Ajax said
“I don’t even know what you’re talking about” Eugene added.
“You deserved it, just a little bit” Divina said
“I can’t stand you people” Yoko sighed.
——————
“Oh my god” Enid sighed, running her hands through her hair and unknowingly leaving traces of blue paint on her forehead and through her hair. “We don’t have time for this right now”
“I’m really sorry” The underclassmen said, his hands pressed together as if praying for her forgiveness.
“I know” She sighed “It’s not your fault, i’m just under a lot of stress and this play starts in three weeks”
“I wish I could do more” He said
“It's alright, i’ll figure it out” She said, the underclassmen left her to her suffering. She buried her face into her pile of folders and sighed, wishing that it was a pillow she could scream into.
“You good?” Enid’s assistant, a vampire named Violet asked.
“Mhm” Enid nodded “Uh, Ronnie quit”
“He q- Ronnie is the male lead!”
“Yup” Enid said as she lowered herself down to sit on the ground.
“His quitting is going to totally screw us over!”
“I know” Enid nodded, leaning against the hard brick wall.
“What do we do?”
“Mack is his understudy, he will just have to pick up where Ron left off”
“And about Mack’s other jobs? We were already short handed as it is, I was coming over here to tell you that Eleanor and Eliza quit too. Milo overheard and is going around telling everyone that Anna mentioned the scottish play by name and cursed us”
“Vi?” Enid asked
“Yeah?”
“How much more cursed do you think they will think we are if Wednesday Addams shows up to help?”
“Wednesday Addams?” Violet asked “Like mega cursed, what do you even mean Wednesday Addams? She’s basically an urban legend, mean and cruel and goth, killed an evil pilgrim on her first semester at Nevermore. The luckier of the freshman and sophomores haven’t ever seen her let alone spoken to her”
“Well, if we have any backup it’s her, and our group of friends”
“You share the same friends as Wednesday Addams?” Violet asked, her face going a bit pale. Honestly, that made Enid feel better. It shouldn’t, but she knew Wednesday cared about her reputation, she knew that Wednesday would find the concept of being feared really funny. Enid smiled and plucked her phone out of her pocket, sending a text to the Nightshades groupchat.
“They’ll be here ASAP” Enid said, looking up at Violet who was shaking her head.
“This is crazy, our show is going to go down in flames”
“Hey, Wednesday only commits arson when she has a good reason!” Enid grinned, maybe she found too much joy in this, she was having a rough day though, she should be allowed to have a little fun.
“She- Enid?” Violet asked and Enid couldn’t help but laugh.
“It’s only happened three times in the time that i’ve known her”
“Oh my god”
“I’ll warn the rest of the group”
“You should, tell them to run for cover” Violet said and Enid shook her head.
When the nightshades arrived they were quickly given jobs, Divina on sound, Yoko, Bianca, and Kent on makeup and hair, Eugene on costumes, and Wednesday and Ajax with Enid finishing painting the set. The underclassmen in the theater group avidly avoided the older kids, kept in their lanes and kept to themselves.
“Thank you guys for dropping everything to come down and help” Enid said, hours later as she passed out bottles of water to everyone working.
“It’s all good, I was just wasting away in my bed” Bianca told her.
“Gets me away from my homework” Eugene offered
“Oh, so you’re too busy to play video games with us but not to come down here and play with fabric?” Kent asked.
“Yes” Eugene said “Enid needed help with her set, you needed a responsible adult to stop you and Ajax from accidentally hurting yourselves playing minecraft”
“That is not fair” Kent said
“You sprained your ankle from jumping off of the couch when a spider crawled over your dirt walls” Divina said “It is fair”
“It scared me!” He complained
“Let’s not forget the time Jax gave himself a black eye while playing Wii sports” Enid added
“Or broke the TV in the common area” Yoko said
“The Wii remotes are slippery!” Ajax said in defense of himself.
“That’s why they come with straps” Wednesday told him.
“She knows from experience, her brothers have destroyed countless and priceless objects” Enid explained
“I’ve told them, time and time again to keep their axe’s and pitchforks on leashes”
“Is she serious?” Bianca asked, Enid nodded before noticing something.
“Dude” Enid said, her voice changing.
“What?”
“You are wearing my pants” Enid told her “That Divina was supposed to give back to me”
“I didn’t even- Bianca I didn’t even realize that those were missing” Divina said “Did you go through my closet?”
“You left them on your bed” Bianca told her
“And you stole them?”
“Oh give me a break. The heater in my dorm is broken” Bianca complained “It is cold as hell!”
“I know, the heater in our dorm was broken last week” Yoko agreed.
“It’s contagious” Divina joked.
“Just like cancer in Tasmanian devils” Wednesday added, everyone turned to look at her, bangs askew and bright pink paint freckled on her face and arms. She leveled them with a glare, refusing them what they obviously wanted. An explanation.
“What?” Bianca asked
“You heard what I said, or has your hearing deteriorated?” Wednesday shot back.
“I heard you, but an explanation would be nice”
“I am anything but”
“I actually know this one!” Enid smiled, resting her chin on her girlfriend's shoulder and looking at their friends from behind the shorter girl. “Tasmanian devils are so inbred that they are all almost genetically identical, which makes cancer contagious”
“If two devils get in a fight, they bite and scratch, and they transfer the disease” Wednesday added
“Kind of like werewolfism” Enid said
“Enid, it is nothing like lycanthropy” Wednesday said, exasperated. They have had this conversation before.
“It can be passed on by a bite or scratch” She argued
“Yes, but the method of transference is the only thing the two have in common”
“But that means that they have something in common, which means my point stands”
“It does not” Wednesday argued
“Anyway” Enid smiled, kissing Wednesday’s cheek before directing her attention to their friends who were awkwardly trying not to watch them argue while still being curious and listening, except for Yoko and Bianca. They had no shame. “Bianca, I want my pants back”
“Sure, allow me to strip in this room full of people”
“I mean, it is backstage of the theater, people are always changing clothes back here. It’s nothing they haven’t seen before” Divina told her.
“No” Bianca said plainly.
“We don’t have time to argue” Enid said.
“Says the one who just got in an argument about tasmanian devils” Ajax pointed out.
“Bia, give me my pants back tonight before curfew, okay?”
“Yes, fine”
“Tanzanian devils are real?” Kent asked, the entire group burst out into laughter, Wednesday turned around and began painting again. Muttering something to herself about being surrounded by imbeciles. Enid knew that her life was much more lively with them. That even if given a choice, Wednesday wouldn’t change a thing.
——————
Wednesday looked so pretty like this. She had one hand on the wheel and the other rested on her knee that was up in the seat with her. It was probably very illegal to drive like that, and even more so considering that the girl still didn’t have a driver’s license.
Enid was used to it though, she was dating Wednesday Addams of all people. Of course some laws were going to be broken, and it didn’t hurt that Wednesday looked absolutely gorgeous while doing it.
The orange sunset beamed through the window, making Wednesday’s black hair look almost golden brown, her eyes had the purples and blues of said sunset reflected in them. She didn’t sing, but she mouthed the words of the french rock song playing on the radio.
It had been a year, exactly a year today, since they had started dating but Enid fell more and more in love with her girlfriend every single day.
She fiddled with the ring around her finger as she watched Wednesday, eyes full of adoration.
“What?” Wednesday asked, feeling Enid’s eyes firmly placed on her.
“You’re pretty” Enid smiled “You’re beautiful and wonderful and brilliant, I am so happy that I am yours”
“And I am yours” Wednesday said, switching her hand on the wheel so that she could hold Enid’s hand and softly kiss her knuckles. Enid moved to trace Wednesday’s jawline with her fingertips, her fingers coming up to tangle into dark hair. “One moment querida”
Enid hummed as Wednesday pulled onto the side of the road and parked the car. Enid didn’t waste a second leaning over the center console to kiss her girlfriend. She could feel Wednesday smile into it, it seemed Wednesday smiled the most when Enid was kissing her.
“I love you” Enid said softly as she pulled away, Wednesday pulled her back, holding Enid by her waist and kissing her again.
“I love you” Wednesday said against her lips, kissing them one last time before letting go. Enid looked at her with the biggest smile, blood red lipstick smeared over her lips. Wednesday couldn’t help but smile back at her. Enid giggled and held Wednesday’s face delicately in her hands.
Wednesday wasn’t used to delicate, she wasn’t used to being treated so softly. If it was anyone but Enid she would fight her way out, but Enid was pure and kind and so full of love. She handed all of that love right over, so much that Wednesday could drown in it. A lovely way to die, being loved by Enid Sinclair.
The back door of the hearse came flying open, Eugene dropped his bags on the floorboard and climbed into the backseat.
“Hi!” He said, buckling his seatbelt and not noticing Enid frantically wiping all of the lipstick off of her face. He looked up at them and grinned “Thanks for picking me up, how was the anniversary?”
“Magical” Enid smiled, turning to him to show off her hand. “My wonderful girlfriend gave me a promise ring”
“That is really nice” Eugene said happily.
“Why are you acting like it is your first time seeing it when you accompanied me to purchase it?” Wednesday asked, pulling away from the store they had picked Eugene up from.
“Wednesday” Eugene smiled “I pretended that I didn’t know because Enid was excited to show me”
“It’s fine” Enid said, studying her hand. It was a simple band, little diamonds encrusted in it, they were in a pattern of colors, white, rose pink, then lilac purple. “I can show it off anyway”
“It’s perfect for you” Eugene told her, she looked back at him with a big smile on her face.
“Eugene?” She asked
“Yeah?”
“Are you wearing my jeans?”
“Oh, these?” He asked, pulling the denim as if he happened to be wearing multiple pairs of pants “I borrowed these from Kent”
“From-“ Enid started, she couldn’t finish her sentence without laughing. “Why does this friend group pass around clothing so much?”
“You are all messy, accident prone, and far too generous” Wednesday said.
“Do you want them?” Eugene asked
“My jeans back, yes” Enid told him, he began immediately unbuttoning them. Enid threw an arm over her face and Eugene started laughing.
“I’m wearing pajama pants underneath” He explained “And leggings under those”
“Why?” Enid asked, peaking her eyes open to make sure it was safe.
“He gets cold very easily, and has anemia” Wednesday explained.
“Oh, Wednesday’s grandmama has a potion that could help manage the symptoms”
“I tried it, I had an allergic reaction” He said, slipping out of his shoes and the jeans over his feet before folding them and passing them to Enid.

“Hello love” Enid said as she skipped through the door of the library, Wednesday was curled up in her normal chair and Thing was sleeping at the top of it.
Wednesday looked up at her and placed her feet on the floor, making room for Enid in her lap. Enid immediately curled up there, reading the name of the book Wednesday had in her hand.
“How was your skating lesson?” Wednesday asked.
“I’m doing a lot better, and no more injuries or ripped clothing” Enid grinned.
“I’ll have to come with you one day, let you show me what you are capable of”
“Could I teach you how to skate?” Enid asked.
“No” She said flatly, Enid laughed and kissed the top of her head.
“Couldn’t hurt to try” Enid told her, flattening out, laying back on the arm of the chair and letting her legs kick off the other. Her shirt rode up a bit as she moved down, her skin touching the fabric covering Wednesday’s legs. Denim, which was really weird. Wednesday hated the texture of jeans, she didn’t own a single pair. Enid looked down at Wednesday's legs.
Black jeans, Yoko had dyed them. Deep purple lilies were painted on the hips, Enid had done that. On the cuffs of the jeans were embroidered vines and flowers, Divina had done that. On the left thigh was a felt bumblebee, Eugene had made it to patch up the hole Yoko had made. The waist had a button Bianca had replaced, the knees had paint that Kent had accidentally kneeled in.
Wednesday had a studded black belt holding the jeans up on her waist, they were originally Ajax’s so they were quite big on her.
“You’re wearing my jeans” Enid said to her girlfriend, Wednesday looked down and then at Enid.
“You’re wearing my sweater”
“Touché”
