Chapter Text
Cody had known he would regret the words he spoke. He had known that it would cost him something important but he hadn’t known it would cost him someone he loves deeply. Qui-Gon had fostered the Fett’s after their adoptive father Jango had died and not even a scant few years later when Qui-Gon died, the Organa’s fostered all the Fett’s as well as Qui-Gon’s three adoptive children. They all stayed in the mansion that Obi-Wan had inherited when Qui-Gon died but they weren’t a family anymore. Then today was the day when Cody snapped again and said something that he wouldn’t be able to take back. Cody tried to follow Obi-Wan in as they nurses and doctor pushed the gurney that Obi-Wan was on through the emergency examination room’s doors.
“They need to work on him and we need to talk to all of you.” stated Bail in a furious tone but Cody could hear the concern in it as Bail helped the nurses hold the frantic eighteen year old back while the doors closed of the room where they were starting to work on a twenty two year old Obi-Wan. “What do you need to talk about that is more important? Obi-Wan is going to die and I killed him.” shouted Cody with tears streamed down his cheeks as he turned on Bail and before Cody knew it Bail was hugging him tightly. “You didn’t kill him, Kote. We need to tell you the truth. The truth we helped Obi-Wan keep from you to protect Qui-Gon’s memory. Truth that has been kept from you that caused this horrible incident.” replied Bail while his wife, Breha, talked to the hospital staff about a quiet place where they can talk to their children as well as wait for Obi-Wan to be out of surgery. Cody sobs into Bail’s shoulder as he heard Breha tell the staff that her son, her Obi-Wan, was going to make it as he didn’t have a choice.
Earlier that day….
It was almost past five when Obi-Wan walked into the slowly dilapidating mansion. He sighs as he tries not to look at Qui-Gon’s portrait that was hanging on the wall at the end of the foyer while he hung up his coat and placed his satchel next to the door. He had little more then an hour to take a shower and eat something before he had to leave for his third job, after that he had a midnight shift at a warehouse. Obi-Wan rubbed his tired bruised eyes as he thought he would probably be only able to get at least three hours sleep in before he had to get up early for his first job. “So you finally grace us with your presence...” stated a voice Obi-Wan knew to well in a sarcastic angry tone and Obi-Wan saw an angry Cody with his arms crossed as he turn around.
“Not now, Cody…” replied Obi-Wan in a tired defeated tone as he ran his hand threw his close-cropped hair that was part of the requirements of his second job, employees had to be presentable with cleanshaven faces and neat short hair. “Not now… Ahsoka is still crying in her room because you weren’t at her play last night. Anakin is somewhere sulking because you weren’t at his football game. Are you even part of this family anymore?” asked Cody in a furious bellow that drew Bail and Breha from the kitchen as well as Rex and Boil from the living room. “Cody… That’s enough…” started Breha to admonish in her gentle tones but Cody made a furious gesture to cut her off as he glares at Obi-Wan to answer.
“You don’t know everything, Cody. I wish I could tell you but…” started Obi-Wan in a patient lecturing tone that always infuriated all of them except the Organas’ before Cody interrupted him. “I might not but I do know your not part of this family anymore.” started Cody in a furious tirade and felt a little pleasure as he saw the hurt his words caused in Obi-Wan’s eyes. “You are never around. You miss birthdays and Christmases since Qui-Gon’s death. It is as if we are living with two ghosts except the living one is never around. Do you even care about us anymore? To be honest some days I wish it was you who died rather then Qui-Gon.” finished Cody with a furious shout before he stormed out of the room towards the office in the back that they used as a study to do homework.
“He doesn’t mean it, Obi’ika…” started Rex in a soothing tone as Obi-Wan blinks away tears while Breha rushes over to sooth Obi-Wan while Bail and Boil went to talk to Cody about his words. “It-It’s alright… If you will excuse me…” stated Obi-Wan as he hurriedly brushed by Breha before she could embrace him in a hug and before Rex could stop him Obi-Wan was running up the stairs. He was so tired by the Force Qui-Gon believed in, he was tired thought Obi-Wan as he rushed into his room. Obi-Wan heard Breha worriedly call after him as he shuts the door and locks it. Obi-Wan was tired of lying to protect Qui-Gon’s memory, he is tired of working himself to the bone so everyone in this family can have a future but most of all he was tired of being hated by everyone is this household except for Bail and Breha.
“I am sorry… I can’t do this anymore…” stated Obi-Wan as tears streamed down his cheeks while he looks at a picture of Qui-Gon that was on his dresser with others as Rex and Breha knocks on his door while they plead for him to open it. “Rex go get Bail… Quickly…” Obi-Wan heard Breha say in panicked tone from behind the locked door as he goes to his closet and takes out the twenty-two caliber pistol Qui-Gon left him. Breha had been worried about his mental health for the last year or so thought Obi-Wan with a sad smile as he lifts the gun to his temple. “I am sorry…” said Obi-Wan loud enough for her to hear as the only things he could think about was that he was too tired of this to go on before he pulls the trigger while regretting that she was there to hear it. Obi-Wan heard sounds of Breha frantically screaming his name as Bail broke down the door while ordering Rex to call for an ambulance before restful peaceful darkness claims him.
Cody heard the shot from the study and runs through the house while praying no one was hurt and he found Rex running down the stairs on the phone with emergency services. “What happened?” asked Cody but Rex just glares at him furiously before Rex rushes to open the front door and Cody could hear ambulance sirens in the distance. Cody grew pale as he runs up the stairs while he prayed and grew even paler as he saw Obi-Wan’s broke splintered door with a weeping Breha standing outside of it. “He is still breathing. I need something to stop the bleeding.” Cody heard Bail shout from inside the room before he rushes into it. Cody stops in his track as he sees Obi-Wan lying on the floor bleeding from his temple with a gun still in his hand. It’s my fault, all my fault thought Cody with utter regret as he runs over to Bail to help.
