Work Text:
There was a spider in front of the door. There was only one door in the room. The spider itself was large enough to not go unnoticed by either of the room’s occupants.
L reacted first. He stopped talking and went to sit on the other side of the room.
He then looked to Light, the only other person there. L was not subtle. Whatever happened next would have consequences if he didn’t play it right. There were cameras and wiretaps placed throughout the room. Both of them were fully aware of this.
After a moment of realization and consideration, Light’s eyes widened as he backed away, his breathing quickened, he let out a yelp. Fear, or the appearance of it, was a common response to the presence of a spider. This behavior on its own wasn’t unexpected from anyone, really.
Light glanced back at L, who was indeed watching his every move.
L didn’t budge.
Light glanced between the spider and L one more time before finally making a move. As a man who was good and did things for the benefit of others, it was expected that he be the one to take care of the problem. He walked confidently over to the spider and squished it beneath his foot, and then cleaned it off his shoe with a tissue, before finally looking back at L.
L stared back, unimpressed. He didn’t even bother to look relieved, or thankful, or react in any way to the disappearance of the spider.
Instead, L called on Watari for some sweets, because he wanted some and Watari could solve most of L’s problems.
Light resisted the urge to strangle the other man.
