Balloons

Summary:

After all these years of finally getting over her death, birthdays were more common in the bowling alley. And now Bonnie was doing the action that took Alex’s life.. simply getting balloons.

Notes:

So after rereading the amazing series: All The Things He Said by queenvengence, I have been thinking about doing this for a while and finally actually wrote it.

That being said. I do not own any of the original characters: Raven and Alex. Those two belong to queenvengence.

This is a “what if?” Story.

Content warning: this story contains some very traumatic shit: Like car accidents, limb loss and the replay of death flashbacks; I suggest you click off and don’t read.

No major character death except that Alex is dead. So if I need to add that tag, just let me know.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter Text

“Uhh.. Should we have gotten another pack?” Moon asks as he picks up the packet of colorful medium sized balloons. “I could have sworn we had more than one.” He muttered before standing and walking out the storage closet.

Birthday parties. It was something they started doing again as they were more comfortable now, especially Bonnie. Though Moon was perfectly fine with having no balloons at a birthday, he was sure kids didn’t care, all they cared about was toys, cake and playing games; but parents usually wanted the place to look somewhat decorated.

Sun grabbed the packet from Moon’s hands and glanced at Bonnie as the older man was coming out of the office. “Hey, I thought you bought more of these last week.”

Bonnie ran a hand through his hair, “Ah shit- Yeah, I totally forgot to mark it on the paperwork. Maintenance has been a priority ever since we had three lanes down this past month.” He mutters.

How could I forget something so simple.. They were at the top of the page..

Groaning again, Bonnie twirled his keys, “I’ll go get some more. I have to head downtown anyway.” He shrugs. For some reason, a guy complained about the bowling alley property, besides taxes and all that shit. Complained so much he has to deal with it..

People who couldn’t keep their mouths shut annoyed him greatly.

The looks from Sun and Moon looked familiar. Both stared at Bonnie, not speaking but their expression said everything.

Right.. Alex. It’s been quite some time hasn’t it?

“I’ll be fine, you two.” He tried his best. He wasn’t the only overthinker, despite not being related by blood, it was probably genetic. “I’ll be back before the birthday party, with eighty dollars worth of balloons.”

“Alright.. just uh- Get me a chocolate bar!” Sun shouted, “The good kind.”

“I'm getting you the worst kind of chocolate I can find!”

XxX

It was almost hilarious how much time Bonnie spent going into the court house. Turns out that complaint was a half-assed attempt for someone to take him and his building down for some.. drug use. Or whatever that meant.

They should have tried harder really.. Endangerment would have been better with the amount of times I’ve threatened to haul a bowling ball at someone’s head.

Though aside from all that nonsense, Bonnie still had to get some balloons for the party today. It wouldn’t take long and all he has to do is get some cheap ones, he was gonna spend eighty dollars though. Just for spite. And so he didn’t accidentally forget to get them anymore.

He can’t believe he actually forgot. Sun sent him many messages just to remind him.

“Dad, maybe you’re getting old.” Gregory pointed out. It made Bonnie choke choke and had Freddy on the floor.

Old ? I’m only 29! Freddy is older than me!”

“Hey don’t bring me into this!” Freddy giggled.

“You forgot what came after H-“

“The alphabet is hard!”

He would not prove his son right. Bonnie was not old. His memory wasn’t fading this early on.

His phone buzzed. He paused, fishing it out his pocket and unlocked it.

F: I have been informed about your tasks

B: You make it sound like I’m doing something illegal 😀

F: You could be.

B: I assure you I’m not!

F: Okay then. How’s your tasks? You good?

B: I’m fine. I finished up downtown and got the stuff for the birthday party. Heading back now.

F: Okay. I won’t be able to see you at work but I’ll stop by later tonight.

B: Sounds good!

F: Drive safe. Love you 😘

B: I always do! Love you too 🥰

Looking at the time, he should really hurry back. All that talking in the court house took a lot more effort and time than he thought. He sighs and steps into his car, placing the bags in the passenger seat.

Bonnie wouldn’t speed for the life of him. He didn’t understand how people could do it so easily, especially with other people in the car. He’s seen Freddy speed before.. not usually after a scolding.

Moon liked speeding. “Why get there in twenty minutes when you can get there in five.” He held up his hand and smirked.

Sun pulled his black haired twin’s hair, “That’s a horrible idea.”

Even out of vehicles, Bonnie warns Gregory to slow down sometimes. The boy always ran kind of fast.

Though after he ran fast first into a wall, Bonnie had to warn him quite frequently.

Bonnie shot up when he felt something cold slide down his back. He heard a giggle as he reached around and pulled his shirt.

An ice cube fell out.

“Alex..”

She smiled and leaned against the desk. That stupid smile whenever she did something funny. It was something Bonnie hated seeing but he also wished it never left her face. “About time! It’s been an hour since you came in here to do paperwork! Turns out you weren’t doing anything at all!”

An hour? Shit..

“Seriously dude, I’ve tried poking you and even stabbing you with a pen.” She laughs, reaching to poke his cheek.

Someone breathing next to him is usually enough to wake him..

“I have a hard time getting Gregory to sleep. If only he went to sleep as easily as you!”

Usually he tried to avoid naps at this hour but when you were the owner of a bowling alley and deal with so many different characters, it was hard to stay awake sometimes. Sometimes the adults were more rowdy than the kids, always trying to pick fights over the stupidest reasons.

Still, he shouldn’t be falling asleep.. Anything could happen.

Alex tilts her head, “Something wrong, Bon?” She asks, her tone dropping and her eyes centered.

“Just a headache.. I’m fine.” He whispered. Stretching his arms above his head and stepping away from his desk, past her and out to the counter.

It was loud and just made Bonnie’s headache worse. Oh right, there was a birthday being held today. “Oh you finally found him.” Moon commented from the counter.

“He was sleeping! What a surprise!” Alex giggled, poking the man in the side. She kept out the part about the headache and the weird look she saw on his face. They would talk about it later..

-

“Hey, we just ran out of balloons, and while I think we will be fine with just these, another pack wouldn’t hurt.” Sun says, walking back from the party tables.

-

“I’ll get some.” Alex offered. “Though I’m taking twenty from the register!”

-

He let her. He let her go get some balloons. Though Bonnie firmly believed a packet of balloons didn’t cost nearly as much as twenty dollars, he let her. Knowing Alex, she’ll do it out of spite.

The screech of tires still got him to tense up. It was something he was trying to avoid even if he couldn’t control it. He was working on it..

And he didn’t freeze so much anymore. Nothing..

Nothing

Could ever eject the sight of her landing on the pavement in his mind.

Bonnie never had a feeling of death so strong in his body.

He hated that he couldn’t feel anything the moment the glass shattered and metal pierced his skin.

Was it painful for Alex..?

Did she know..?

Was he supposed to feel numb ?

-

He saw it. He heard everything. He saw everything..

“ALEX!”

-

The sound of crying made Bonnie jump in fear. He ran out of his room and quickly down the stairs, finding Gregory clinging onto a fresh-out of the hospital, Alex.

“Mommy! Mommy I missed you!” Gregory shouted, clinging onto her shirt and soaking her neck with his tears and snot.

She was right here..

Alive?

“Hey Bonnie.. I guess I gave everyone quite a shock, huh?”

We’re my thoughts playing tricks on me? This didn’t feel.. real.

-

“Hey! Hello? Sir?”

Were they yelling for him? He was here..

“I need medical help over here, quickly! He’s bleeding badly!”

Bleeding..? Badly..? Can’t be that bad.. Wait-

I could hear just fine.. but it’s like my eyes were glued shut.. I couldn’t feel anything either..

The balloons.. I was on a tight schedule- I need to get back-

“His arm-“

“Wrap it up. Put it on the stretcher-“

“Poor guy..”

-

F: Babe, where are you? Call me back.

-

M: Dude. If the court meeting was that long you could’ve at least said something!

M: Freddy said you were done. Where are you? I’m getting worried..

-

S: Y'know, I regret not letting Moon put a tracker on you..

S: Please call back..

-

C: Hey babes! I picked up Gregory for you.

-

F: Why aren’t you answering anybody’s calls?

-

…I’m sorry…
