Chapter 1: Changing Course
Chapter Text
"Stay calm, this won't hurt much."
Noi heard Rhys tell Ava before Zex threw the Alphadiedus to the ground, creating a bright magic light that engulfed them.
Noi tried to shield his eyes but it was futile, the sheer energy alone made him jump back a little, colliding with Pierce, the Deamos in question grabbed the ginger as the light blinded them, not knowing where they would end up.
_____________
Ava awoke to a creepy and dark purple-lighted forest. The forest itself was no doubt beautiful if it didn't give off such an interesting atmosphere. The air itself felt..odd to Ava, it felt...cold. Was that the right word, well it didn't matter cause she was lying on the ground as the weird guy -Zex? Was that his name?- had a blade to her throat.
"No!" She heard Asch yell as Zex raised the blade and was about to stab her. Ava closed her eyes, trying to ready herself for the pain, but the weight of Zex's body on hers wasn't there anymore. She opened her eyes to see Asch and Zex dueling each other. Asch used his fire in an offensive attack, while Zex used his blade and teleportation in a defensive position. It didn't take long for Asch to overpower Zex. In a desperate attempt, Zex fled.
"This isn't the last of me you will see you're majesty. Soon, we will meet again." He smirked with razor-sharp teeth and teleported away.
"BASTARD!" Asch yelled in rage as he watched Zex leave.
Rhys bent down to where Ava still lay. She could barely make out an 'Are you okay?' that he had said since her heart was pulsing in her ears at the amount of shock and panic she was going through. She pushed him away as she called away from him. "S-STAY BACK!" She yelled in fear, eyes blown wide, tears threatening to come out.
Leif, Rhys, and Asch looked at Ava in shame.
'Good.' She thought. 'They should be ashamed'
Rhys carefully walked toward, extending a hand to help her up. Ava smacked it away as she got up, dusting herself off. Rhys looked at the hand she had slapped away with guilt.
"Where are we?" Ava asked, frustration laced every word.
"We are, uhm...in...Daemos..." Rhys said reluctantly. Not knowing how she would react.
"Daemos? As in...the world you come from?" Ava asked in disbelief. She couldn't be here. She couldn't be! She had a life, a family she needed to be with. She couldn't be in another world!
"Yes," Rhys confirmed.
"Oh, well that's just...just...Okay, that's... ugh" She groaned. She looked around at the forest that surrounded them. Lief, Ash, and Rhys were in front of her. and...Wait...where was...
"...Where, where are Noi and Pierce?" Ava asked. The three Demos looked around and indeed, no Noi or Pierce. Asch used his magic to try and sense them...nothing. They weren't even on their plane of existence.
"There must have been something wrong with the Alphadiedus. I-I don't...I can't sense them anywhere." Asch said in shock.
Rhys, Ava, and Leif's eyes blow wide in dispilief.
Leif opens his mouth to say what they're all thinking "Oh, Fuck."
Pierce's head hurt. It was like he had just got hit with a rock. A ringing sound from the aftershock was in his ears. He slowly blinked to awareness. He noticed he was lying on soft green grass in the middle of a forest. He heard a mumble beside him. Turning to look down, he saw Noi still unconscious. However, it looks more like he was asleep. He was on his side, hat on the ground beside him, using his arms as support. Noi yawned and Peirce felt his cheeks go a slight pink at that 'Cute' he thought. Realizing what just went through his head he shook it, trying to get to the task at hand.
Gently poking the smaller man, trying to wake him. Noi yawned as he swatted Pierce's hand away.
"Prince Asch, Five more minutes..." He mumbled groggily. Well, at least he wasn't uncountius. Pierce shook a little harder. Noi grumbled in annoyance as he got up. Rubbing at his eyes.
"Hm...P-Pierce? What? Where are we?" He said looking around in worry. "Where is everyone else?" He asked, awareness coming in quickly.
"I-I...I am not sure." Pierce admitted. "What is the last thing you remember?" He asked.
"Uhm? I-I think...we were back at Princess Ava's apartment. And- and Zex was there, And...And he-he had a...a..." It took them about 30 nanoseconds to realize what happened.
"OH NO!" The two yelled in panic. Jumping up to their feet. Pierce tried to summon his magic, but Noi stopped him, grabbing his hand.
"Don't! Save it! We might need it later, and I don't have any magic left. We don't know where we are or if your magic works here." He told Pierce.
Pierce nodded in agreement as he put his hands down, Noi let him go and for some reason, Pierce frowned.
"Let us move forward," Pierce said, noting how high the moon already was. "We might have some luck with a village." He said.
Noi smiled at his friend's attempt at cheering him up. "Yeah, that'd be nice. Plus I don't like how...creepy this place looks at night." Noi said.
Pierce agreed, the place did seem more...odd than it did when he first awoke.
The moon was high in the sky when Noi spoke again.
"Do you think the others are alright? I mean I know Asch, Lief, and Rhys can help themselves, but...Ava has never been to Daemos, plus, she's human. Who knows what anyone will do if they find out." Noi said in fear for her.
"Do not worry Noi, Ava will be fine. She is rather smart for a human, so long as they all lay low. I'm sure it will be fine." He said.
Noi sighed, tension leaving his shoulders.
They walked in silence for a bit before they heard a branch snap behind them. As quick as lightning, Pierce took out his sword and Noi took out his dueling blades. They examined the area but it was hard to see anything since it was practically pitch black. An arrow barely missed Noi's head as he blocked it.
"SHOW YOURSELF!" Pierce yelled. The two took their stances as something came out of the trees.
"Is...Is that a... Skeleton?" Noi asked, shocked and confused. Didn't Ava say skeletons were dead, so why was this one standing? The skeleton in question began to get another arrow notching it in the bow, getting ready to aim. Noi and Pierce attacked, Noi distracting it while Pierce took strike. It didn't take long for the skeleton to lose. It died in a puff of smoke, vanishing. Leaving behind three arrows and...five small green orbs. Pierce went to examine them, only for them to disappear with a Tink, Tink, Tink. As they went.
"What...What just happened?" Noi asked in confusion. Truly, Pierce did not know.
"Let us move on shall we?" He suggested. Noi shook his head lightly, still processing what happened.
They were about to depart when they heard noises and groans coming from all around them. They got back into their stances as about 18 different...things came out of the dark. Pierce counted about 10 of those skeletons, 5...Humans? Only they were green, didn't have eyes, and looked like corpses, and 3 ginormous spiders that reached his thigh...It was gonna be a long night.
_
Ava was panicking. Noi and Peirce were missing, she was kidnapped and brought to another world, and the others were arguing about what to do. Asch opted to go find them right now, Rhys thought it would be better to go back to the castle and Lady Grandma and think of a plan, Lief wanted to find and kill Zex.
Eventually, they decided Rhys was right. Now all they needed to do was figure out how to get Ava in the castle without raising suspicion.
"What?" Ava asked venom lacing her voice. Rhys brought up both his arms in a sign of surrender.
"Princess Ava, please. If you would allow us to discuss this matter, we can explain everything." He said cautiously.
"Discuss? DISCUSS!? What would we DISCUSS about Rhys? Go on INLIGHTEN ME! All I know is you all were using ME! And when you were done you were gonna throw me away! And you can't say I'm wrong, because I'm not! So go ahead Rhys, Let's DISCUSS, Shall we?" Ava's words were like a knife in the Deamose's hearts. The three of them were ashamed of what they did. What they were going to do.
"Thats-that how it started," Leif said out loud. Ava looked at the white-haired man with suspicion as he made his way toward her.
"But then, something changed. We started to like you. We liked Earth, we liked being your friend, we were so caught up with the life we had on Earth, the life we had with you...we almost forgot about Deamos completely." Leif, for practically the first time in his life, spoke with sincerity.
He got down until he bowed on one foot. Ava didn't know Deamos customs, but she knew bowing to someone was a sign of loyalty. A sign of respect...forgiveness.
"Ava, we might not get your trust back after this...but we want to try...but we can't, not yet. first, we have to get Pierce and Noi back. And we need you, I need you" He got up and walked closer to her.
"You promised I would never have to worry about being alone again. Don't break that, please?" He asked quietly. Which is something Ava never thought she would hear.
She took a deep breath, calming herself.
"Fine. But this doesn't mean I forgive you." She waned the 3 nodded their heads in agreement.
"So, You said something about a castle?" She asked.
Asch nodded "Yes." He said, looking around where they were.
"We appear to be in the Shal Gu Forest, thankfully that isn't far from the castle. Unfortunately, we're going to have to go through Guslow Village to get there, and that place is teaming with Deamos." Asch groaned "If any of them see you, it's gonna get difficult."
"Why?" Ava asked.
"Because humans don't go near Deamos villages. If anyone there sees you, you'll be dead before you can scream." He answered.
"Oh boy," Ava sighed in defeat, this was gonna be a long night.
"So how do we do this?" She asked.
Rhys thought for a minute "Hm, well. First, you'll need a disguise. We will all need disguises." He said, fixing his glasses.
"What do you mean, 'all of us'?" Lief asked, confused by Rhys's statement.
"Well, If seeing a human in a Deamos village is going to be bad, imagine if they saw a human with Prince Asch and half his royal guard, with the other half missing? That might cause a riot all we know." Rhys answered.
"Oh, yeah." Leif said, thinking about what to do "Actually..." He said, getting a thought. "Guslow Village, you said? I know someone there that owes me a favor." He said, smiling.
"Guess we're going to Guslow." Ava shrugged.
Noi and Pierce have been running for a good long while now. At some point those 18 things became 30, then 40, then, well you get the jist. At sometime later, they realized it would be better, to book it and run. At some point in the night, rain clouds had formed, it would rain soon and neither was wearing rain-friendly clothes. Eventually, the oak forest turned to flat lands, not good since there were even more of those things there. So, they decided to stick to the trees where there was less of them.
"Pierce! We can't run forever." Noi said, completely turned from running all night. His legs were begging him to stop.
"I know Noi, just until we find somewhere to rest." He begged.
They had been being chased by a rather small corpsed human, about half their size but had twice their speed. Whatever it was, it was persistent. Soon, the rain came, making the two almost fall and risk the little thing getting them a few times.
They were about to give up when they saw something in the distance. It was...it couldn't be...A town. Kinda. It looked to have about 7 houses. Circling the biggest tree the two had ever seen.
They looked at each other in happiness. they had almost reached it when Noi fell, giving the little thing a chance to grab his leg. Pierce tried to remove it but it was pointless the thing was latched on. Using its fingers it clawed and scratched at Noi's legs till they bled. Noi yelled for the thing to get off but it was pointless.
Just as they were about to give up, an arrow flew passed them and right into the small thing's head, eventually killing it into a puff of smoke, leaving a piece of its flesh. Pierce grabbed Noi quickly, making sure he was okay. Minus the scare at the bloody scratch marks he was fine.
"Hey, you two okay?" A high male voice called from behind them.
They both turned around to see a grey-eyed man, with jet black hair, a streak of it was blue. He wore a white undershirt, dark blue jacket, grey pants, and black bands on both his wrists. He lowered his bow looking at the two in concern. He tried to go toward them but Noi held up one of his duiling blades in defence.
"Stay Back!" He warned. But unfortunately, the adrenalin rush from before was ending and Noi's lack of sleep was starting to get to him.
"Noi, are you alright?" Pierce asked in concern, grabbing the smaller male into his arms, seeing his eyes start to drop. The black and blue-haired man was stepping closer. Pierce raised his sword.
"Stay back, human!" He yelled. The man just kept coming closer cautiously.
"I mean it! Stay, stay...Back! You...you..." Pierce tried to say. But just like Noi, the adrenalin rush was slowing down. He passed out, Noi still held protectively in his arms.
"Oh, Shit," Ein said as he examined the two strangers.
They both had many cuts and bruises across their arms and legs. The orange-haired one took the most damage from that baby zombie.
"Ein-Kun!" He heard Kawaii~Chan say as she ran up to him. "What happened? Who are they?" She said as she looked them over, gasping at their many wounds.
"I'm not sure. I heard screaming and came to check it out. That's when I saw the orang-haired guy getting mauled by a baby zombie. So I helped them out." He said. "Are they okay?"
After Kawaii~Chaan finished looking them over, she turned to Ein.
"EH, kinda? They have cuts and bruises from all the mobs they faced last night I think. And this one" she pointed to the orange-haired stranger. "needs the most help before those cuts get infected. Help me get them to Zane and Aphmau, they will know what to do." She said as she grabbed Noi. Ein went to grab Pierce who was exactly as heavy as he appeared.
Ein kicked Aphmaus's door open when they got there. Aphmau was talking with Zane on the couch, while Aaron made breakfast. Aphmau was about to yell at Ein for kicking her door when she saw the two broken and beaten bodies, she ran over, Zane and Aaron right behind her.
"WHAT HAPPENED!?" She yelled as she helped Kawaii~Chan hoist one of them toward the spare bedroom.
"That's what I want to know!" Ein said as Aaron helped him with the other one, Zane opened his inventory and took out several healing potions and bandages.
"We just found them like this, getting attacked by a baby zombie, then passed out." He explained.
"Aph, bring him over here," Zane said pointing to the other side of the guest bed. Aphmau and Kawaii~Chan put the smaller male on the right side, while the taller one was on the left. Zane tossed Aphmau some healing potions and bandages.
After about an hour they got the two strangers situated, and everyone sat down to talk in the living room.
"So, You found them outside in the pouring rain, getting beaten by a zombie-" Aphmau was interrupted by Ein.
"Baby Zombie."
"Right, right. Baby Zombie. Shot it with an arrow, then the big guy threatened you with his sword. Then he passed out next to the smaller dude. Kawaii~Chan came and helped you bring them here?" Aphmau asked, wanting to clear everything up. Ein shook his head and hand from side to side.
"Eeehh, more or less. But that is the gist of it yes." He explained.
"And neither of them said a name or something?" Aaron asked handing everyone some tea he made.
"I think the bigger one referred to the smaller guy as Noi? So yeah." Ein shrugged. "Also, the big guy called me 'Human' So, I don't think either of them are." He stated.
"So, if they aren't human, what are they?" Zane asked, skeptical about the strangers.
"Well, they aren't werewolves. that's for sure, me or Aph would have been able to smell it on them if they were." Aaron said.
"Same goes here," Kawaii~Chan said, raising her arm a little.
"Well, that narrows it down a lot." Aphmau groaned. Rubbing at her eyes in frustration. She couldn't make heads or tails of the situation. What were they? Where did they come from? She was just so confused and tired.
Aaron noticed Aphmaus's frustration and decided to step in "I think, we should talk about all this later. Y'know, when are new...guests are awake. yeah?" He offered.
Everyone agreed. Though Zane thought it wasn't a good idea to leave Aphmau and Aaron alone with the strangers, Aph said he was stupid and they left it at that- Ein decided he wanted to take one last look at the two new guys before leaving. He peeked his head inside the guest room, opening the door just a smidge enough to poke his head inside. The two new guys seemed fine enough. They had somehow snuggled up in their sleep and began spooning each other. The big one spooning that Noi guy. Both are completely unaware of the world around them. Ein closed the door as gently as possible, trying not to wake the two...Friends? Up. He bid Aphmau and Aaron goodbye and went to tell everyone else the news.
Chapter 2: The Journey's Start
Summary:
Noi and Pierce wake up and Leif backstory.
Notes:
I was rewatching MID and there wasn't lots of info on Daemos or Lief's past. So I took a few creative liberties.

When Noi was starting to wake up he was awoken by the brightness of the mourning sun and the twiddling of birds. He felt something coil tightly around his waist, wrapping him in a warm embrace. He turned around and saw Pierce lying down beside him, spooning him. Noi felt his face heat up as he wiggled out of Pierce’s hold. He sat up and looked around. He appeared to be in some bedroom. The walls were a dark purple while the bed was a burgundy color, he saw bandaging wrapped around him, mostly on his leg. He noted that both his and Pierce's clothes were very torn, and they were still a little damp from the rain. Noi looked toward the window and saw the sun was just about rising into the sky.
“Pierce” He whispered. He was shaking him slightly. Pierce grumbled as he swatted Noi’s hand away. Noi grumbled in annoyance ‘How is he so asleep right now?’ He thought. Noi decided that desperate times called for desperate measures. He carefully moved so that he was now slightly on top of Pierce as he went to his ear and whispered “Pierce! Wake up!” As loudly as he could.
Which seemed to do the job as Pierce’s eyes shot open and he sat up, taking his knife he had stored in a pant pocket, and switched them so that he was now pinning Noi to the bed, knife at his throat.
It took him a second for his brain to catch up with his actions, but he soon realized what he was doing. He quickly got off of the smaller daemos.
“Noi! I am sorry! Are you alright” he asked worriedly, not realizing the huge blush that spread across Noi’s face.
”Yea..Yeah. I’m f-fine!” Noi said, voice slightly cracking. Pierce extended his hand, and Noi took it, the two slowly dusting themselves off. Neither noticed how red the other's face was.
"Noi, do you know how long we were asleep?" Pierce asked as the blush settled down.
"Uhm, by the looks of it. About a day." Noi said, tugging at the skin of his arm worriedly. Considering how the time on Earth went faster than Daemo's time, he was worried that it would be the same here, and maybe by the time they got back home, it would be too late. He didn't notice how he started to scratch at the arm.
Pierce was about to ask if Noi was okay when the door started to creak open. They tense, getting into a fighting position. The door slowly opens and reveals-
”...A-Ava?”
”PST! Ava! Come on!” Leif whisper-yells as they stick to the shadowy alleyways of Guslow. Now, Gunslow was -at least Ava thought- what any typical medical town would look like.
Cobblestone streets, wooden houses, a well in the town square, and people, or rather Daemos, caring carts with assortments of foods and other oddities. The oddest thing about this place, there was no sunlight. Asch had explained that Daemos only really get Sunlight for about a moon's cycle a year, and even then it isn't a lot. Instead of the normal grey clouds on Earth, Daemos's clouds were more of a dark purple color with bits of dark navy blue. Now, getting into town was easy, since Leif managed to get them some cloaks. And by 'to get' he stole them.
"Leif! Are we there yet?" Asch wined as they slinked around carefully. Leif rolled his eyes.
"Would you relax? we'll get there when we get there." Leif said in annoyance. They kept walking for a few more feet before Leif stopped abruptly at a backdoor.
"Okay, we're here." He said smugly.
"Freakin' asshat," Asch muttered, crossing his arms.
Leif chuckles as he knocks.
3 normal knocks
2 fast nocks
1 tap of a knuckle
And the door opened. Leif motioned them all inside as he closed the door behind them.
Ava looked around and noticed they were in a backstage of some sort. A red velvet curtain draped across the side where she assumed the stage was, many ropes and levers were behind her, and lots of people-or rather daemos- were walking around in a rush. Stage hands were carrying props and costumes, and performers -most of which were women- were putting finishing touches on their makeup and pinning up hair and costumes. Ava took notice of how these costumes were very...eh, extravagant, and rather...revealing. And it appeared she wasn't the only one who noticed, as Rhys and Asch were redder than a tomato. Rhys turned toward Leif.
"Leif." He said through clenched teeth "I swear, if this is the kind of establishment I think it is, so help me, I swear-"
"Hey!" said a feminine voice behind that cut Rhys off.
They turned around and saw, what had to be, the most beautiful Daemos woman any of them had seen.
She appeared to be in her mid-40s, with long curly brown hair, bits of white and grey, caramel skin, and black eyes that could strike a man dead. She wore an off-the-shoulder long-sleeved burgundy silk dress that reached her ankles and held an old folding fan with intricately detailed flowers. And boy, did she look angry.
"Hey! SINGERS AND STAGE HANDS BACKSTAGE ONLY! OUT! OUT! OUT!" She whispered, walking down the steps.
"Go on! No exceptions!" She said. They started to panic as she came closer. But, before something worse happened, Leif poked his head out from the back and said smugly "Oh? Not even for me Miss Kalra?"
Asch was about ready to smack Leif upside the head for his stupidity but was stopped when he heard the older woman gasp.
"Ah! Leif!" She yelped in excitement, rushing over "Where've ya' been, kid?"
Leif met her halfway and spun her around as she giggled and hugged fiercely.
"I've missed seeing you up in the rafters," She said fondly as they let go. Leif smiled warmly as he bowed, kissing her hand.
"Hanging on to you're every word. Mad'ame," He said happily.
Ava's eyes widen in surprise. She had never seen Leif act like this with...anyone before. She turned around and saw Asch's mouth open wide, with a gobsmacked look. While Rhys had a hand to his chin, contemplating just where he had seen this woman before.
"Miss Kalra?..." He said absentmindedly, it took a second. But once he realized just Who he was talking to he became redder than a strawberry.
"M-M-Miss Kalra Telvasco!?" He yelped.
Asch grew extremely Pink at this "Wha!? LEIF! EXPLAIN!?" He growled.
Ava was confused by their reactions. Just Who is this lady!? She thought.
Leif chuckled as he stood beside the woman.
"Everyone, I'd like you to meet Miss Kalra Telvasco, head singer and entertainer at Guslow Tavern." He said proudly.
"I also own this joint." She said smugly.
"A pleasure to meet you all," she said. She looked toward Asch and gave a small bow "Especially you, Your Majesty."
Asch had blanched at that. "Oh No. no no no no no. No. I-I'm not, I'm not the! I'm not- " Asch tried to deny it, but was stopped by Kalra's giggles.
"It-it's alright, young prince. I won't tell a soul. Now, while I am honored a member of the royal family and his knights have chosen my establishment. None of you are here for a fun night around town, correct?" She asked, fanning herself.
"You are correct. We-uhm we require your assistants. We need to sneak into the place without getting seen" Asch admitted.
Kalra nodded " I see, I see. But, why would you need to sneak into your castle, Your Highness?" She asked.
"Because..." Asch hesitated, turning toward Ava. Ava nodded, She trusted Leif, and if Leif trusted this woman, then she would trust her too. Asch grabbed Ava by the shoulders and placed her in front of Kalra, taking off her hood a tad. "Because of this..." Asch said silently.
Kalra's eyes widen in surprise at the human in front of her.
"Oh. I see," She said quietly. looking around them quickly.
"Come, this way. Quickly, before anyone sees you." She led them backstage and toward a room.
"This is my private dressing room, everyone knows they can't enter without my knowledge and permission. You will be safe from prying eyes." She said as she made space for them.
The dressing room was fairly big—a vanity on the side, a mirror carved into it. The walls were a nice dark cherry red, with golden swirls on them. A big couch on the side, along with an armchair and several other comfortable cushioned seats surrounding a coffee table. On the side wall was a walk-in closet, and in the corner near it was a dresser and a dressing screen. On the back wall was a bookshelf with various books of all different shapes, sizes, and lengths.
"Now, I have to perform in about 5 minutes. I will need you all to wait for me. When I'm finished, we can discuss this whole-" She gestured to Ava "-Thing. Now, If you need anything all the staff knows Leif, so with that. I shall be off. Keep the cloaks on at all times. And Leif-" Kalra said, turning toward him with a playful smile "Stay out of trouble, huh?"
"Miss. When have I ever done that?" He asks as she leaves.
As soon as the door closes the three corners the white-haired male, all arms crossed.
"Okay, Leif. I suggest you explain to us on just How, you know The Miss Kalra Telvasco." Rhys demands.
Leif sighs, hand put up in surrender.
"Okay Okay. But, you guys will need to get comfy, cause this story s' a little long."
"Uhm, I'm sorry, Who?" The woman who looked like Ava but wasn't Ava asked.
Noi and Pierce dropped their fighting stances and examined her. The woman appeared to have a white strapped shirt, purple "shorts" as Ava had called them, a light lavender cotton robe that hung on her arms, and white-purple striped thigh-high socks and white shoes.
"I apologize for our behavior, You just look like, someone we know...or, knew I guess..." Noi said distantly. Pierce looked at him worried.
"Oh, Oh. I-i'm so sorry." The woman apologized. Shaking her head she smiled slightly, hoping to ease their sadness.
"Let's start over. My name is Aphmau, and you guys are in my house." She said smiling.
Pierce nodded slightly. "Greetings. My name is Pierce, and this is Noi."
"Hello, nice to meet you," Noi said, waving shyly. "Thanks for patching us up."
"It was no problem. I noticed your clothes were a little banged up, so I got some new ones for you" She said, gesturing to the bundle in her hands. She handed them to the two.
"Thank you. Miss Aphmau." Noi bowed slightly, making her blush.
"Oh no uhm, you don't have to do that. And please. Just Aphmau is completely fine." She said hurriedly.
"Okay."
"Good. I'll leave you two to change. And then, maybe you can meet the others." She said.
Noi and Pierce shared a worried glance.
"O-others?" Noi asks hesitantly.
"Yeah. There are about 9 of us living here. Well, technically there are more. But none of them like staying in one place for long. They tend to travel a lot. If you want you could meet the ones here. But, if you guys don't want to we can hold it off for a while." She asks.
Noi and Pierce look at each other. Pierce shrugs, he's fine with it as long as Noi's fine with it.
"Uhm, sure. We would gladly like to meet your comrades." Noi said, smiling hesitantly.
Aphmau smiles, clapping her hands "GREAT! I'll be downstairs, meet me when you're done." She says, closing the door behind her.
As soon as she left, Noi's smile added a little as he handed Pierce some clothes and they began to change.
Noi was debating whether to say something to Pierce when he stopped and noticed a peculiar item of clothing.
"Uhm, Pierce?"
"Yes Noi," Pierce says, back facing away from him.
"Uhm, do you know what this thing is called?" He asks.
Pierce turns around and sees a very vibrant orange, something in Noi's hands. It appeared to be a long-sleeved shirt. Only, the fabric was much thicker, and it had a hood attached to the back. With small white tassels attached to it, along with- and this was about the oddest thing about it- an odd piece of fabric overlapping at where the abdomen would be. It was odd, but Pierce recalled what Ava had called it.
"I believe that is what humans call a "hoodie" They usually use them for keeping warm."
Noi nodded in understanding "Oohhh. Okay."
"Uhm, How do I put it on?" Noi asked, embarrassed by his question.
"Oh, uhm....Hold on, maybe if I just-"
It took a while, but eventually, Noi had gotten the sweater on.
Now, Noi had an orange hoodie over a loose white shirt and blue pants. While Pierce had a sky blue jacket with the sleeves rolled up and yellow accents on the collar and bottom, over a black tank top, and blue jeans. Pierce opens the door and he and Noi leave, shutting the door behind them. They then enter a hallway lined with various pictures. On the left were two doors, in the back was a reading nook, on their right was the room they had slept in and a staircase leading downstairs. They carefully went down and heard 3 voices talking in hushed whispers.
'Okay Kawaii~Chan, now, remember. Be calm. Okay,' They heard Aphmau whisper.
They made their way down and saw that the stairs went to a living room. Three heads turned in their direction. In the room, they saw Aphmau, along with another woman and a guy. The other woman had birth pink hair tied into a loose red bow. She wore a pink long-sleeved shirt, white skirt, black belt, and white boots. They then noticed the other guy was the same person who helped them yesterday, he didn't look at them, just kind of stood there.
"Hello. My name is Kawaii~Chan! It's very nice to meet you." The woman said as she extended her arm. It wasn't until the two got closer that they realized that the woman had a tail along with black ears that stuck out the top of her head Pierce was the first to snap out of his surprise as he extended his arm and shook Kawaii~chans hand.
"Hello, My name is Pierce and this is Noi." He said as Noi went to take her hand too. Kawaii~Chan smiled as she turned and grabbed the guy's hand to bring him over.
"This here is Ein-Kun. He saved you two yesterday." She motioned to the other. The newly named EIn waved, his stance was rigged and awkward as he smiled nervously at the two strangers.
"If you two don't mind I need to look at your wounds to see if they've healed," Ein said. Noi and Peirce nodded in confirmation.
"Yes"
"Great! While you four are doing that, I'll check on Aaron and breakfast." Aphmau said as she left the living room and toward the kitchen.
Kawaii~Chan had the two sit on the long purple couch. She checked over Piercs wounds, while Ein checked Noi's.
"Okay Mr, Pierce. Your wounds look fine. A couple of scratches here and there. Otherwise okay." Kawaii~Chan said smiling.
"Thank you, Miss Chan. For patching us up." Pierce said as Kawaii~Chan sat next to him.
"It was nothing." She said waving her hand dismissively.
"So,...If you don't mind me asking...what were you two doing out there in the first place?" She asks hesitantly.
Noi and Pierce look at each other in a silent conversation. They knew they would have to tell these guys everything eventually if they were to ever get home.
"Well, it is complicated. But, to put it simply. We were attacked and separated from our companions." Pierce said hesitantly as he examined their faces.
They weren't skeptical or suspicious like Pierce was expecting. More like they were surprised and worried.
"Well, don't worry. I'm sure you're friends are okay." Ein said. The thought was comforting.
"Yeah!" Kawaii~Chan beamed as she got up, hands balled into fists.
"In the meantime, you guys can stay here, if you want." She asked.
Noi and Pierce had matching small smiles.
"Yeah, I think that would be nice," Pierce said.
"Hey, guys. Breakfast is ready." Aphmau said as she pocked her head into the room.
With that, everyone got up and toward the smell of delicious pancakes.
Notes:
I swear I had to re-write that last scene about 5 times before I thought it was decent enough.
Also, can't blame Ein for being nervous. Babe's not good at small talk.
Chapter 3: Memories and Introductions
Notes:
Okay!
First things first. Thank you all sssssoooo much for waiting! I've just been having a hard time trying to figure out the world-building for Daemos and figure out how this chapter gonna go, but I think I've finally fleshed out a few things to make this chapter work.
Secondly, I know a few of you were a little confused last chapter about Noi blushing at knifepoint. Well, long story short, It's kinda a way of courting in Daemos culture, depending on the region.
(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)
Chapter Text
"HEY! GET BACK HERE!" A guard yells as he chases a young Daemos child through the streets. The child appeared to be about 10, with tattered clothes and no shoes. He was easy to spot because of his hair that, at one point was a snowy white, was a darker brownish-light grey. his horns were smaller than typical, but very sharp and were a lovely dark forest green.
The child ran into the crowded street to lose his chasers. He jumped over barrels and pushed carts. He eventually managed to slink his way into a nearby alley.
"I think he went this way!" He heard a faint voice yell as he tried to blend into the shadows which wasn't easy, since he was easy to spot. He started to panic as he gripped the stolen jewelry to his chest. Looking around he saw someone carrying some heavy crates through a door. He quickly and quietly ran to the door and snuck inside without hesitation.
Once inside he crawled under a nearby table. The table was long with a large rose-red tablecloth. After a quick smell, the child then realized that this table had food on it. He tried to tell himself not to. It was a bad idea. What if he got caught and they killed him? His ever-growing grumbling stomach stopped his thoughts. He decided he would just grab one thing, maybe two and that was it. With his mind made up, he slowly and carefully reached out. He carefully searched the table and suddenly his hand felt something, with his success he grabbed it and slowly moved to go back down, but was suddenly stopped by a firm hand squeezing his. With a yelp, he was pulled harshly out from under the table and was now dangling in the air. The Daemos who grabbed him appeared to be a tall man, with scars scattered across his dark skin, the most noticeable was the big slash that went from under his right eye down his neck, his hands callused from years of work, bushy beard, and a mop of light brown hair, his horns were unlike anything the kid had seen, blood red, the right one had a piece cut off.
"Ah, it appears the theater has been infested." The man's gruff voice spoke. Not exactly angry, more annoyed.
In a desperate attempt to flee, the child began to kick. The man didn't respond except for a small grunt. The man then moved the child so he now had him hefted onto his shoulder. The man started to walk to the door, ignoring the kid's protests, but was stopped by a feminine voice.
"HOLD ON!" She said. The child looked up and saw a young woman in a black long-sleeved wrap shirt and a long dark blue skirt. The woman had black eyes and caramel skin, and green horns, much like his, only more swirly, and a darker green.
"Hold on, Marzu. What happened?" The woman asked as she began to fan herself.
Marzu turned around and moved the child so he was now held by his waist.
"Nothing Ma'am, just taking this street urchin back to the trash where it belongs." He said deadpanned.
The woman sighed tieredly.
"It's okay Marzu. Put the kid down."
"But miss-“
”I will deal with it.”
The child was then gently placed on the ground. He began to dust himself off and looked around slowly. He was cornered. Behind him the man stayed in case he ran. The woman in front of him was...smiling? Her eyes seemed kind, or, as kind as a Daemos's eyes could be. She bent down and went to touch the child's face. The fast movement made the kid flinch. The woman noticed this and retreated slightly before slowly touching the kid's hair.
"Hello, young one. I apologize for my associate's handling of you." She said softly. A growling stomach interrupted them. The woman chuckles as the child blushes in embarrassment.
"Hungry, aren't we?" She holds out a cookie for the child to take. The child then backs up slightly and tenses. His pupils widen as he hisses.
In return, the woman growls quietly at the back of the throat. The child gasps as his shoulders relax. The woman then reaches out to give him the treat.
"Eat."
The skeptical child then takes the cookie and slowly eats it, making the woman smile.
"Now then, would you mind telling me your name?" She asks the boy.
The boy swallows and says "M-my na-name is Leif."
The woman's smile widens "Kalra. Kalra Telvasco."
"Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Wait a minute." Ava interrupts.
Lief looks at her slightly annoyed "What?"
"So, you tried to steal from her. And. She just gives you the food anyway." Ava asks, rather confused. The way she heard the guys talk about Daemos, no one here was nice to each other.
"Yeah. I'm a little confused myself. If it was anyone else, they would have probably cut you're hand off." Rhys says.
Leif chuckles.
"Well, Kalra ain't like most. She's nicer. Well, as nice as a Daemos can get. She ain't a pushover. That's for sure. You should have seen what happened when some drunk man tried to woo her." He said amused.
"Why. What happened?" Ava asks.
"Well-" Just as Leif was about to talk, Kalra walked in.
"Leif. As much as I would love for you to tell that story. We haven't the time." She says.
She walks over to Ava.
"Stand. Would you dear? I'd like to get a good look at you."
Ava stands and takes the cloak off. Kalra begins to circle her.
"Hm, well. You are indeed human. That's for sure." She said as she left to sit at her vanity.
"Alright, you all wanted to talk? Talk."
Breakfast was fun. The other guy, Aaron, was super nice about Noi and Pierce being there. When they were done Kawaii~Chan and Ein took the two daemos on a tour. The “town” they had found had many houses, dirt roads all connecting, street lamps, fountains, and of course the giant tree in the middle of it all. It was huge. Like, bigger than Ava’s apartment building. They had to crane their heads up to see the leaves of purple and pink.
The two also noticed hints of magic involved. It was faint, but there. It almost felt, ancient.
But, that’s a story for another time.
At first, it was awkward but as time went on, conversation slowly started to commence.
“So, a few of our friends are out right now. Wanted to do some exploring and stuff. So, they're out for a while. We do have an empty place you can use and- OH! Zane!"
Kawaii~Chan ran to a man a little bit up the dirt path. The guy had black hair, part of which was covering his right eye. He wore a striped jacket, a black scarf covering his face, and black pants, he had very pale skin and dazzling sky-blue eye. Kawaii~Chan ran up to him and jumped into the guy's arms, and he spun her around before putting her back on the ground.
"Kawaii~Chan. Be careful. I could have dropped you." Zane grumbled in slight annoyance, making sure she wasn’t hurt, his cheeks reddening.
“Oh, it’s okay Zane-kun. I know you’d catch me.” She smiled at him.
He rolled his eyes, grabbing his scarf so she wouldn’t see his blush.
"Anywoo~ Zane I want you to meet the new guys. This is Noi and Pierce." Kawaii~Chan said as she clung to Zane's arm. Gesturing to the two strangers.
Zane looked up to see the two he helped yesterday. The orange-haired one seemed like his leg healed nicely, he limped a little, but that was expected. The other seemed very quiet just giving a simple nod of the head. Compared to his shorter companion who waved excitedly with a wide smile.
"Hello, it's nice to meet you," Noi said, happy to meet someone new.
"I'm Noi, and that's Peirce."
"Hello," Peirce spoke.
"Nice to meet the two of you. I'd love to stay and chat but I gotta a go. That new underground biome ain't gonna explore itself." Zane said as he rolled his wrist, taking out a pickaxe.
"I don't understand why you'd want to go explore that place. it's creepy." Ein said.
Zane rolled his eyes, "It's not creepy it's cool. Aren't you interested in finding out why there's a whole underground city?"
"Meh, Kinda hard to admire anything when you're used as bait for a giant blind monster!" Ein finishes angrily getting into Zane's face. As the blue-eyed boy does the same.
"UH! ANYWAYS!" Kawaii~Chan says as she stops the two from getting into a fist fight, again.
"Let's uhhh. Continue the tour, shall we? we're almost at our stop." Kawaii~Chan spoke worriedly.
The two Daemos boys looked at Ein and Zane, eyes wide.
"Uhhh, y-yes." Peirce said.
After that, Zane left toward the ancient city, but not before flipping Ein off. Which Ein returned with both his hands. Which then caused Kawaii~Chan to slap the grey-eyed man upside the head.

Chapter Text
"Hm, that is...quite a story," Kalra said as she applied the powder to her cheeks. It blew like dust and had the faint smell of lilac and sage.
"I have felt my magic has been acting odd lately, but I did not think...." She trailed off. Despite what the royals and the knights tell them, everyone knows it. Humans in Daemos have been depleting lately, she figured they would go extinct eventually but to know they have been for a while is very...
"...I have heard tales of other worlds but I never thought they were of truths. You have had a great deal of an exhausting time, my dear girl." She said as she turned in her seat to face Ava with a small smile.
Ava sighed tiredly, "You have no idea."
"Hey. We're weren't that bad." Asch said as he crossed his arms.
"Didn't you stick me to a tree when we first met and threaten me with fire?" Ava asked deadpanned as her eyebrow raised. Kalra giggled. Asch looked away as a light blush of embarrassment formed on his cheeks.
"Anyways, can you help us, Kalra?" Leif asked while trying and failing to hide his smirk.
"Hm....perhaps. I am unsure. You have been gone a long while young prince. If word got around you were back...your father would not be pleased you came here first." She said simply, with a calm calculating gaze, she knew to take everything into account, if one thing had been taught to her in this life, it was that she must count her coins before investing the sum, so to speak.
"Please, Miss Kalra. We need your help." Leif said pleadingly as he got a bit closer. Damn. Well, she couldn't say no when her kid was looking at her like that.
She sighed and smiled at Leif.
"Oh, darn. Must you look at me like that my dear?" She asks playfully. Kalra gets up and pats his head.
"Oh, very well. I will help you. Now," She snaps her fingers and several clothes, accessories, makeup, and shoes float around the room.
"what were we thinking? Something...Puffy?" She snapped her fingers and Ava was dressed in a puffy-sleeved dress with a large bustle, making Asch and Leif snorkeled.
"Or something, Layered?" With another snap, Ava was now wearing a very layered dress.
"Oh, maybe you would care for something more colorful?" Another snap and she was wearing a rather colorful Edwardian style dress.
Lief decided perhaps it was time to put Ava out of her mystery.
"Uhm, actually Miss Kalra we were hoping you had something that could perhaps help us blend in?" He asked. Kalra looked at him oddly.
"....Blend in?..... My dear, does anything about me say 'blend in'?" She asked while fanning herself.
"Nope. not even a bit. But we need to. please?" He asked as nicely as he could.
Kalra sighed dramatically, fanning herself.
"Fine." She snaps her fingers, and the better outfits and such go away, leaving the more hideous or plainer clothes.
"I suppose you four may go digging around. I might have a few things for you all, but you," she said as she pointed to Ava.
"Well, we can't have a human in Daemos territory now, can we? I will have to fix that."
"Uhm...which entails...what, exactly?" Ava asked nervously, Kalra just smiled.
"Oh, do not worry child. it is nothing that will harm you...much."
"Aaaaannnd... we're back!" Kawaii~Chan said as they stopped back at Aphmau and Aaron's house.
"Whew! That was quite the tour. M tired now." Kaqaii~Chan said as she fixed her bow.
"It was only 30 minutes," Ein said as he stood beside her, hands in pockets.
"It was? Darn it. Felt like months." She said winded.
"Hey guys!" Aphmau shouted as she walked out of her house with Aaron behind her.
"Hey, how was it?" Aaron says as he stops before them, hands in his jacket pockets.
"Oh, it was amazing! Thank you so so so much!" Noi said happily as he swayed on his feet.
Pierce just nodded. "Yes."
Aphamau felt her head tilt at Pierce's one-word bland answer, she couldn't tell if he was being sarcastic or not.....oh well.
"Anywho! We have super amazing news to give!" She said happily.
"We managed a good place for you two! okay, well. not "managed", more like found...but practically the same thing." She said hastily yet happily.
"It's not babes," Aaron said with a smirk. Aphmau huffed and gave him a side-eye and a scoff.
"Anyways, come on come one. It's a little on the smaller side but we weren't sure between the two of you what color you would prefer so we went with a mix. Then, we decided, well, we should probably put a small farm on the side but really what-" Aphmau continued to talk fast about this new place they had found for Noi and Pierce. The group walked along a path towards the place.
Ein notices how twitchy Noi is. He walks a little closer to the orange-haired one.
"You good?" he asks, startling Noi out of his mind.
"H-huh? O-oh, y-yes I'm quite alright. I'm just...confused about something?" he said, although it sounded more like a question.
"What sort of things?" Ein asks.
"W-well.....this world is very confusing. I can't make head nor tails of it.....a-and those monsters-"
"Mobs."
"W-what?"
"Oh, we call them 'Mobs' here," Ein said with a nod of his head.
"There are actually two types of Mobs, there are friendly mobs and violent mobs."
"How does one tell the difference?" Noi asked.
"Well, friendly mobs won't attack you. So, like.....Pigs, Cows, Sheep..spiders, but that's only during the day....oh, and Enderman,"
"Enderman?" Noi asked confused, eyebrows furrowed.
"Yeah. they have blackened skin, and glowing purple eyes...and are tall. real tall."
"Oh, we have something like that in Daemos. Only their skin is more greyish-white, and their eyes are black." Noi said.
"Huh, no kidding....oh, and then of course are the violent mobs, those guys come out during the night. Those would be the skeletons, the zombies, the spiders, slimes, silverfish, but, really, they only spawn in the dungeons. and, witches,"
"Witches?"
"Mhm, witches. very creepy, with large warts on their chins, and noses. they kinda look like villagers."
"Villagers? So like...common folk?" Noi asked.
"Common folk?.....oh, right, you used to live in a fantasy renaissance RPG."
"Uh...what?" Noi said with a head tilt. Ein shakes his head.
"Never mind. And to answer your question.....no?...but also yes....Villagers live in little villages, usually in plains biomes. they have their own whole thing going. But don't sell them short. they sure do know how to bargain and scam."
"scam?"
"Yeah. Scam. most of us like to trade with villagers."
"Trade...like...money?"
".... I have no idea what 'money' is, but if it's like emeralds, then...yes. We trade emeralds for things like armor, food, potion materials, and vise versa." Ein said with a shrug.
"Oh, so... it's like a market?...a...very very large market."
"yeah. I guess."
"Ah...t-thank you, Ein, for teaching me this stuff."
"No problem dude."
"WE ARE HEEEEERRREEE!!!" Aphmau said in a sing-song voice as she gestured to a small cabin-like home. It was at the back of the place, more away from the large tree. There was a large wildflower field at the side and a broken-up barn-looking place on the way back. They all went inside as Aphmau told them they could look around.
Pierce counted two bathrooms, two bedrooms, a kitchen, a drawing room near the front door, and a back door in the kitchen, which led to the forest.
"So, is it good?" Aphmau asks.
"y-yes. it is more than good. we thank you for your hospitality." Noi said. He and Pierce start to bow. Aph had a light pink to her cheeks at the formal gesture.
"Well. We all should go. you two probably want to settle. Maybe take a nap." Zane said as he dusted off his pants and opened a window, he coughed at the dust.
"M-maybe some, cleaning," He said between coughs and wheezes. Kawaii~Chan gently pats his back.
Aphmau giggles.
"Welp, we'd better get going. We're gonna have a campfire tonight, we can figure out how to get you all home in the morning."Aphmau said as everyone leaves. Noi closes the door behind them and huffs.
"These people are very........hyper," Pierce says.
"Yeah...Pierce...how do we get home?" Noi asked, his eyes big as he looked up at Pierce.
"I...I am not sure yet....but hopefully Mrs. Aphmau has some answers or one of her friends," he said.
"And....if they don't?
Pierce was silent for a minute..before he gently squeezed Noi's arm.
"Then we find our own way."
Noi smiles.
"Okay.... but first I think we should listen to what Mr. Zane said because it truly is dusty in here."
Notes:
THANK YOU ALL FOR WAITING!!!! im having trouble with what the heck our favorite daemos boys are going to do in this world, let me know in the comments if you want them doing anything specific.
P.S. Did you know that a drawing room, is an alternative name for a living room? I was also going to go with the "lounge room" but that felt more American English, whereas I see Daemos room names as more "Renaissance British" English
