Close your Eyes

Summary:

Kier and Dev watches a horror movie. Unfortunately, Kier isn't good with those.

Work Text:

“Dev, you know I don’t like horror movies,” Kier complained, sitting on the couch right next to Dev, looking through trailers after trailers of never-ending horror and bloodcurdling screams that never failed to scare the hell out of Kier.

“Bro, relax, we haven’t even chosen a movie yet!” Dev replied, keeping his eyes on the television when a jumpscare suddenly popped up, and Kier grabbed onto his arm as if his life depended on it. Dev pressed the play button on the remote, “Let's just watch whatever this is.”

“If I have nightmares later, I'm blaming you.”

Dev snickered as Kier tried to push himself closer to Dev, seeking warmth and protection. “What? Don't tell me I have to cuddle you to sleep.”

Kier glared at Dev, punching his arm lightly, hearing an 'oww' from Dev as he laughed at Kier's antics.

The two of them sat together in silence, actually trying to watch the movie (or maybe Kier is just too scared to say even one word, but we don't talk about that), Kier hugging a pillow to his chest, clinging onto Dev with his right arm.

And it was perfect like this. Just the two of them, spending time with one another, not having to worry—

“AAAHHHHHH, DEV!!”

Well, only having to worry about one thing.

Kier sighed. He had been tossing and turning for the past hour, unable to sleep. He starts by closing his eyes, letting his mind drift into slumber, until he remembers the monster from the movie—its eyes bloodshot red, face covered in blood and gore he couldn’t even fathom, smiling so eerily at him—and Kier has no choice but to open his eyes, he could feel his heart beating rapidly.

“Dev,” Kier whispered, staring at the ceiling, unsure if Dev was still awake, or if he could even be heard from the other side of the room.

Kier heard the sheets of Dev's bed rustling, signaling that Dev had shifted from his position, but Kier received no response.

So, he tried again. “Dev, you awake?”

Dev exhaled, sheets rustling even more when he decided to stand up, getting his blanket out of the way. Kier looked at Dev, who is now standing beside his bed, and Dev gave him a slightly awkward yet genuine smile. He looked gorgeous even in the dark, it was kind of unfair.

“Hey man, mind moving a bit?”

Kier moved over, giving Dev some space to lie down beside him. Dev gladly took this chance and quickly shared Kier's blanket, facing his back.

Kier was lying down on his side, facing the wall with his eyes closed, still trying to fall asleep.

“Can't sleep?” Dev asked in a gentle manner, almost a whisper.

Kier hummed, too tired to say anything yet too scared to fall asleep. Kier felt Dev breathing against his nape, “Sorry. I knew you didn't want to watch a horror movie, but I still forced you to.” Dev said in a low, careful tone. Kier didn't say anything.

After a few minutes of silence, Kier once again opened his eyes in a rush, hand grabbing his own chest, trying to relax. “Calm down,” were the only words he could think of—not like it did much for him anyway.

All of a sudden, Dev wrapped his arms around Kier, pulling him in a close and tight hug, “It's okay, Kier. I'm just here. I'm not going anywhere.”

Kier sighed, both in defeat and relief, surrendering himself to Dev's embrace. He turned over to his side, finally facing Dev as he buried his face on Dev's neck, “I'm scared.”

Dev smiled to himself, leaning down to kiss Kier's hair, his hand rubbing Kier's back in a linear motion, in an attempt to comfort him, make him relax, let him know he's there, hugging him even tighter. “Think you’ll be able to sleep better with me here?”

Kier nodded, his face still buried in the crook of Dev’s neck, and Dev swears, he swears, he felt something move in his stomach, a weird sensation that made him feel happy all of sudden—content, even.

“M’ybe we should do this every day then.” Dev mumbled. A suggestion. He regretted it the moment it came out of his mouth, but Kier is half asleep already; he might not have heard it. Or at least Dev hopes so.

A few seconds passed by, Kier hadn’t said anything, and Dev breathed out in relief.

“That’s such a stupid idea,” Kier murmured. Dev freezes. “I like it,” he added.

It took Dev five seconds to process what Kier had said, and when he realized… Well, he did nothing else but hug Kier tighter than he had already been doing, it felt so good he felt sick with it.

“Goodnight, Kier,” Dev said, putting his hand on Kier’s hair, gently patting. “See you tomorrow.”

“Night, Dev.” Kier whispered, “See you ‘morrow.”
