Chapter Text
When you were summoned to be the new exchange student, there were a few things you weren't used to, some being new, and being something you hadn't had in a long time; like a stable roof over your head and your own room. You had shown up in your old clothes, most of which were second or third hand, and some from a long time ago. They were torn in some parts. Your hair looked greasy and unwashed, but they just assumed you were like Levi and didn't take many showers, nor got many new clothes. When you were sent to your room to adjust, you were a bit shocked. The room was large enough to fit a table big enough for 6 and a queen sized bed. And you had it to yourself, lock on the door and all, not to mention the ensuite bathroom which had a bathtub. You sat on the bed gingerly, and fiddled with your new phone until Lucifer got you for lunch. He noticed you hadn't unpacked your meager belongings but thankfully, he didn't comment. You scarfed down the entire plate quickly, but despite being hungry, didn't ask for more. You grabbed the plate and went to wash it, before Mammon stopped you. “Oi, Human, don't worry bout that, Levi's got dish duty today.” You stuttered in your walk and compiled, but still placed all your silverware in a neat pile on the plate to make it convenient for Levi. You got a few weird looks from the brothers before you went back to your room and closed the door again. There was a war in your mind over whether or not to snoop around the room, since it was yours for a year, but you still felt too nervous. This cycle repeated after dinner. You laid down and passed out thanks to the proper bed fast.
Lucifer had noticed a few odd things about you in the following weeks. You were hesitant to ask for more food, but always ate more. You didn't change clothes unless needed, took baths often, and slept for a really long time. You didn't linger around empty rooms, and were nervous to touch things or ask for things you needed, even when you got hurt. He called you into his office after two weeks of this behavior, and had a talk with you about how this was your home too now, and “Were the brothers making you feel like you didn't belong?” “No! Of course not! You're all so amazing. These past weeks have been really great for me, and I feel better than I have in a while.” This only served to concern him further. If this was you at your highest in a while, what was your normal?
Lucifer asked Mammon to keep a closer eye on you and report on any odd behaviors you exhibited. He took note of how you wore clothes that reminded him of those 200 year old clothes in the back of his closet he hadn't worn after they got ripped, but couldn't bring himself to throw out. You ate fast, like someone would take your food away, and rolled over pretty easily to any resistance, as long as it wouldn't hurt anyone. If Asmo wanted you as a human pincushion, you would probably agree. Whenever Mammon got you gifts, you seemed overly grateful, but nervous to accept, like you would owe him something later. When they started to warm up to Levi, he texted him about these symptoms too.
Levi told Mammon that they seemed anxious like him often, but once you were in your room or distracted you acted like you were confident as Lucifer. You didn't know any of the newer games and anime, no matter how popular they were in the human world, unless they were free to play/watch. This pattern was quickly noticed, and he started to show you all the things you had missed. He even bought a few new games to show you specifically, and when he let that slip, you seemed uncomfortable with it, like you didnt deserve it. He got you merch of a show you said you loved, and you seemed in awe that he would do that. You told him you had never gotten anything like this, even for yourself. You simply couldn't afford it. He guessed that was understandable; the proces could be a bit steep, but never? You hadn't saved up and bought a shirt once, even? Not a single keychain? This worried him the most, when you said not even keychain. They were, at most, 15 Grimm, and couldn't be more expensive in the human world. He wanted to cry at the fact you hadn't felt the joys of merch buying, and he was determined to get you all the merch you even blinked at. Mammon passed this along to Lucifer.
Satan first mentioned reading offhandedly to you, and you latched on. You read a lot, apparently. Almost as much as him. You skipped around genres, mostly reading whatever was available. Satan offered you access to his books, and you stuttered. “That's- you don't have to do that!” Satan just smiled. “Well, if you like to read, I don't see why shouldn't read with me.” You just nod and accept it, not fighting anymore since he offered. You told him good human realm titles and their basic plots. He gave you a small stack of books to read through in return, and watched over his own book as you sat on the floor of his room and read through them silently, going pretty fast through the pages. Before dinnertime, the first one was placed next to your side, and the next was in your hands. When Lucifer knocked onto the doorframe to get you both for food, you placed it down reluctantly. After you had gotten up, he grabbed it for you. At the table, he subtly placed it by you, and after you ate like this meal would be your last again, you picked it up and started to read again. You read while everyone ate until you and him were the only ones left at the table. You hadn't registered anything around you in a while, and we're nearing the end of the book now. He simply watched your altering expressions, and gathered the plates. He picked up yours last, and when you glanced at him, you did a double take, noticing the empty table. Satan nodded in acknowledgement and walked to the kitchen, keeping an eye on you from the half wall that looked out onto the table. He noticed how you seemed uncomfortable while alone, and shifted a lot, like you weren't welcome unless someone was there to reassure you you were. Returning to the table, he sat next to you and pulled a book out from… somewhere. He sat and read with you until you finished the book. You sighed and placed it onto the table, and Satan just hummed. “I'll see you tomorrow. Text me if you want the rest of those books.” You just nod as he walks away with both books, and you scurry behind him to your room not long after. He couldn't sleep that night, something not sitting right about your behavior, and by the time he had gone through his mental catalog of what it could be and coming up empty, the sun was rising. He decided to ask Mammon about it, since he was your guard. Mammon told him about what he, Lucifer, and Levi had noticed too, before he told Lucifer about Satan's words.
Asmo had, at first, thought you disgusting, but as he got to know you, he learned something pretty quick- you were really sweet. When Asmo proposed a makeover day for you, you were half confused and half flabbergasted. “Are you sure? I mean, I've never had one of those.” Asmo gaped, you really hadn't had a makeover night!? That had to be remedied! It took you a while to relax into the pampering, but eventually, you turned to putty under his touches. He suggested a bath with all the fixings, and you hesitated before accepting. He took note of how if he offered something you would accept, but you would never suggest anything yourself. After that night, he looked a bit more closely, and noticed this pattern. He texted Lucifer to ask what this was, and he replied “So you noticed, too?”
Beel, at first, thought he met someone as hungry as him, but then your uncomfortableness registered in his mind. He was objectively the most emotionally in tune of all his brothers, and he could tell that you weren't quite well, both physically and mentally. You were a bit too skinny in the wrong spots and a bit too chubby in the other wrong areas, like someone who has only eaten junk food for the past few years. Beel gave you some extra snacks he had, as a kind of test, and while slow to accept, once you did you devoured it with a speed that rivaled his. He was confused as to what to do with this new info, but accepted his personally assigned role of human feeder. He carried around human-safe snacks in bulk around, and while he did eat some, he managed an incredible amount of self control and gave you most of it. Over time, after his mandatory snack times he had created had been around for about a week, you started to eat slower, and didn't polish off your plate completely, leaving a few bites left (which he ate as soon as you left the table and made it clear you didn't want them.) You were bulking quite nicely, and when he offered to work out with him, you accepted. He started with a slower routine, but as long as it didn't involve a machine, he figured out you were a pro. You couldn't figure out the machines, however, saying you had never used one. “Just because I had a membership didn't mean I used anything but the showers,” you chuckled. Beel, however, didn't get the joke. “Why didn't you use your own shower?” When he asked you, you got quiet and started to drift into space like Belphie sometimes did, and he had told Beel before that he didn't like doing that, so he panicked internally a little. He changed the topic hurriedly, trying to keep you in the moment. It broke you out of your stupor, and you agreed to take his suggestion into account. These gym trips became a regular thing, between the two of you, but every time, he couldn't figure out what you had meant with that shower comment.
Belphie, at first, hated you, but when you reacted just as harsh to him, he was stunned. You had the audacity to act that way to him? But, then he started to respect your confidence. You took longer to warm up to him, and it took until you heard from his twin how great of a guy he was you even acknowledged him. Belphie could feel your exhaustion coming off in waves every time he was around you, but he knew you slept for longer than his brothers, and barely less than him, reaching upwards of 14 hours on the weekends. The first time he “kidnapped” you to take a nap, you wriggled a bit, before giving up. It took a lot of shaking from Beel to wake you both, but he did it eventually. You blinked, bleary eyed, and stumbled your way down for lunch. At the table, you woke up more, but he could still feel your tiredness sloughing off from across the table. You ate a bit slower than usual, and slowly woke up more over the meal. By the time you had finished, it was like you were never asleep. He didn't really pick up on your more strange habits, but he didn't care much. You slept a lot, and while it worried him a bit how much you slept (humans only needed at most 10 hours, right?) he found himself falling asleep next to you at night a lot more over the next few weeks.
Diavolo, of course, knew about your past situation. After all, he had asked Barbatos to find out everything about you. While he watched from the shadows, Barbatos realized just how unlucky you truly were. Looking into the future, he determined that the best course of action was to not inform the brothers of your situation. He did, however, tell the angel students and other human. Simeon and Luke were horrified that that was even possible, and Solomon looked solemn at the news, eyes reflecting his age. Luke said he would make sweets for you everyday, and Simeon said he would pray. Solomon waited for them to finish before telling them “Don't overwhelm them, guys. You probably shouldn't even let them know you know.” The angels looked confused at the sorcerer. “Trust me.” Diavolo couldn't hear a lie anywhere in his words. Barbatos agreed, and the angels submitted to their request.
Lucifer messaged the prince at the one month mark. “Are you aware of the humans behavior?” Diavolo, of course, knew what he meant, but he acted dumb. “What do you mean?” “The reason they don't feel comfortable alone isn't he house, their refusal to ask for anything, their food insecurity, to name a few.” Diavolo sighed. “Set a date with Barbatos to come over. Bring your brothers, but not the human.” Lucifer sent a positive reply, and the prince held his head in his hands. What was he to do?
