Chapter 1: Only One Bed
Summary:
Only One Bed
Chapter Text
“Oh, my,” Harrison says, right on cue as they enter the hotel room. “There’s only— wait.”
Drew lifts his fond gaze from Harrison, only to discover—
“Two beds.”
“They’re… quite narrow.” Harrison observes.
“Very narrow.”
“Um.”
“Yep.”
Harrison sits down on one experimentally.
“I’m not sure we’ll both fit.”
“What a shocking bout of pessimism.”
“This is the point you normally describe it as realism. And you could look less amused. I did have… plans.”
“Tell me more,” Drew says, and it turns out neither of them are neither pessimistic nor realistic enough to stop them falling out of bed.
Chapter 2
Summary:
Just To Get It Out of Our Systems
Notes:
You will notice that some are double Drabbles because 1) drabbles are hard it turns out and 2) getting Harridrew to shut up is even harder
Chapter Text
“Are we ever going to talk about this?”
“Talk about what?” Drew says warily.
“You know what I mean, Drew.”
“Enlighten me.”
Harrison sighs. “Okay, fine. If you want me to be the one to say it, I will. I know you have your whole lonesome broody cynical thing going on. And you know I—“ He hesitates, a split second falter before pushing on. “—I’m holding out for Cal. But there’s clearly something between us here, so maybe we should just… get it out of our systems.”
The silence that follows is charged. Harrison darts glances at Drew, but he can’t read his face.
“Get it out of our systems.” Drew repeats. He takes a very controlled breath. He rubs his forehead. “You’re impossible,” He says, and takes a step closer to Harrison, then another, until he’s crowding him against the wall. “What does getting it out of our systems look like, Harrison?”
“Oh, I was imagining something like this.” And then it doesn’t matter that Harrison’s the one with his back to the wall, because he’s the one pushing up into Drew, twisting a hand through his hair and pulling him down into what starts out as a kiss.
Chapter 3: Marriage of Convenience
Chapter Text
“We should just get married.”
“Excuse me?”
“Ugh, don’t give me that. I’m not trying to con you into a trope, I gave up on that a long time ago. I’m just saying — there’s an obvious solution here.”
“… Marrying you?”
“And then you get to stay, and I get to keep my best friend in the country. It’s a win win.”
“Other than that you’d be legally married to me.”
“Oh please, who cares about that. We can just get it annulled, or get a divorce, it’s easy.”
“I still don’t think—“
“Shh, just admit that I’m a genius who’s solved all your problems.”
“It doesn’t solve one problem.”
“Which?”
“The one where I’ve been deeply in love with you for the last three years and that if I married you I could never bring myself to divorce you.”
“I… What?”
“You heard what I said.”
“But… Drew…”
“Maybe I should have said that with more fanfare. But it’s true. And I think you’ve known it’s true for a long time.”
“But… if that’s true… then you have absolutely no reason not to marry me. No, don’t try to argue. We should do this. It can be our first date!”
Chapter 4: Love Potion
Notes:
… yeah okay so maybe more than a few are double drabbles,,, bite me
Chapter Text
“Erm, Drew, did you— did you eat any of those chocolates?”
“Yeah, why? Was I not supposed to? You weren’t saving them, were you?”
“No I— I didn’t bring them. Um.”
“Why are you looking at me like that?”
“Someone just texted to say they’re a love potion.”
“Oh. That makes sense.”
“Wait, what? It doesn’t make sense, what are you talking about? Why are you so calm about this? They could have poisoned you, why aren’t you outraged? How are you acting like this is normal?” He pauses for breath; Drew gives him an amused look.
“Oh, it must not have worked. That’s it, right? It didn’t do anything?”
“No, it did something. It just doesn’t change anything.”
“What… do you mean?”
“I think you already know. But I’ll only say it when you’re ready to hear it.”
Harrison swallows. He gathers every drop of courage and bravery he can find. He looks Drew in the eye.
“Ready to hear what?”
“That I’ve been falling in love with you since our very first show. A love potion don’t change anything. I’ve never needed it.”
Drew doesn’t say any more, because Harrison is kissing him, and he won’t ever stop.
Chapter 5: Secretly a Duke
Notes:
Some of these were more difficult to Harridrewify than others…
(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)
Chapter Text
“Ugh, this is stupid, that’s not even the right road.”
“Hm?”
“The road they’re driving down goes to the stables, it’s not the main driveway.”
“The… what? Drew!? You’ve visited that place??”
“Um.”
“Why are you being suspicious right now?”
“I’m not.”
“You totally are! Oh, is this about your secret past again?”
“Um.”
“Should I drop it?”
“Please. Oh, for fucks sake, what are they doing? Really? I’m surprised Father even let them onto that part of the grounds.”
“… your… father… let them? Is he groundskeeper there, or something?”
“Or something.”
“Wait, he let them in my bedroom?”
“Andrew. Are you telling me— forget about the film a second. Are you telling me you live there?”
“I can’t forget about the film, because they’re filming in my damn house! And doing a shit job of it!”
“That’s not the most important part for you to pick up on!”
“I’m sorry, would you like me to do the formal introductions? Sir Andrew Harcourt, heir to the Duke of Inglesdale.”
“Heir to the— were you going to tell me?”
“To be honest I was just going to invite you home with me one day.”
Harrison manages no words, just a shriek.
Notes:
You might ask the question, Em why didn’t you take the very obvious out of using celeb instead of duke given that hidden identities are Drew’s whole thing. And that would be a good question that current!me has no good answer to. Why this.
Chapter 6: Kissing Lessons
Chapter Text
“Drew, I— before we—“
“Tell me,” Drew says softly.
“I’ve never kissed anyone before.”
“Oh,” Drew breathes. Harrison doesn’t look at him; doesn’t want to see which puzzle pieces he’s slotting together. He doesn’t say that. He says: “We don’t have to do anything you don’t want.”
“No, I— want to. I just—“ he covers his face with a hand. “I don’t know how.”
Drew doesn’t respond for a moment. And then he takes Harrison’s hand from his face, and kisses the back of it. Then he turns it, and kisses Harrison’s palm. His wrist.
“Okay?” He checks, and Harrison can barely nod over the sound of his heartbeat. “You don’t have to know. Just find what feels right.” Drew leans closer, kisses his cheek.
When Harrison reopens his eyes, he kisses Drew’s cheek in return. He’d thought it might be the precursor to a real kiss, but Drew just gazes at him, and Harrison doesn’t want to move.
Except for how he really wants to kiss Drew.
His eyes drop to his lips, and he sees Drew’s smile. And shakily, he presses his own smile to it.
Turns out that it doesn’t take long to learn how to kiss.
Chapter 7: Age Gap
Notes:
A shocking real Drabble??? Also in my head this ties into another Drabble that you will see later…
Chapter Text
“You’re not that much older than me.”
“Yeah, but…”
“You’ve clearly been spending too much time on the wrong side of tumblr, Drew. We’re both adults. We both want this. It’s fine.”
“I know, but… I watched you grow up. It’s just— still weird sometimes.”
“Oh, please. Like I didn’t watch you grow up too. Wanna talk about, oh, that day at the lake?”
“Please stop.”
“Hm, no, I don’t think I will. I think I might stand here telling all the stories about how we grew up together, and I’ll only stop if you come and shut me up.”
Chapter 8: Workplace
Chapter Text
“But Drew,” Harrison says, with his fake-scandalised voice on, “this is our workplace. We can’t do that here.”
“I’m incredibly tempted to text Hal and tell her you just said that,” Drew says mildly, as if he hadn’t been about to go down on his knees in front of Harrison. “But you’re right, maybe we should keep this professional.” He takes a casual step back, out of Harrison’s space. Harrison’s eyes narrow.
“Don’t you dare.”
“Hm?”
“Andrew.” Drew just smiles placidly.
“Come on. We should go back to work, don’t you think?”
Harrison doesn’t even let him take another step.
Chapter 9: Fake Dating
Notes:
Too many obvious choices, this was so hard lol
Chapter Text
“Remember when you told me ‘not even a little bit will I fake date you’?”
“Did I say that?”
“Yes.”
“I mean, obviously I didn’t have these exact circumstances in mind.”
“I can’t imagine why not.”
“Because it’s ridiculous, that’s why. They surely don’t really believe we just met, do they?”
“Shh! And anyway, I don’t see what’s so unbelievable. I just met you today. Why wouldn’t I want to date you?”
“Well, I mean…”
“No, go on, enlighten me. What is it, pretend you is too good for pretend me?”
“…”
“Ugh, fine, what?”
“We’re still wearing our wedding rings.”
Chapter 10: Roadtrip
Notes:
A rare canon compliant (ish) one
Chapter Text
“That’s just stupid. I’ll drive you.”
“… you’ll… drive me?”
“Yeah? Obviously, Drew, come on. We’re friends, aren’t we? I can take you to the airport much more easily than you can coordinate three buses.”
“But—“
“What, you don’t trust me?”
“No, but, you have your bike all the time—?”
“Yeah, if I’m on campus. Jeez, Drew, think about the planet once in a while. My truck is for Stoneybrook and beyond only.”
“Your… truck.”
“My truck, yes, please catch up. You can ponder your false assumptions later, but please, please don’t get three buses when I could just drive you.”
Chapter 11: Billionaire
Notes:
Okay so. Maybe this is a double-and-a-half drabble. Still counts. In my defence it’s pretty hard to wrangle either of these two into being billionaires
Chapter Text
“You wouldn’t date a billionaire?”
“Ew, no, I have standards.”
“Harrison, you— you work for me.”
“Uh, yeah? Gaming the capitalistic system to pay off my student loan is morally defensible; you, on the other hand…”
“So that’s what I’d have to do, if I wanted to date you? Not be a billionaire?”
Harrison humphs. “It would be a start.”
“Drew, what did you do?”
“Lost a considerable amount of wealth.”
“… talk dirty to me more often.”
“No, I mean it. I probably can’t even afford an assistant now.”
“That’s a lie and we both know it. I would, however, be willing to resign if there were another position on the table.”
“Oh? What position would that be?”
“Boyfriend?” He tries to keep his voice smooth, but there’s a hint of a quaver at the end. He shouldn’t have worried; Drew grins at him.
“That’s lucky. I set up a lot of these funds in your name, it would’ve been awkward if people thought it was named for my assistant. Might have accused you of sleeping with the boss or something.”
“Drew!” Drew looks so pleased with himself that Harrison can’t help but step closer. “Really?”
“Yeah, Harrison. I did this for you.”
“I think you did it for yourself, too.”
“Okay, maybe a little bit. You’re right. But that contract? That was for you.”
“Yeah? You gonna seal it with a kiss, too?”
“That’s… really not how contracts work.”
“Shut up,” Harrison demands, “and kiss me.”
And Drew does.
Chapter 12: Nanny/Governess
Chapter Text
The standards at his nanny agency must be really going downhill. Either that, or they’ve been put on some kind of blacklist. There’s no way this guy is going to work out; he barely seems more mature than the kids themselves. But it’s too late to worry now.
Except that he gets home to serenity. To laughter. To the house tidier than it had been when he left for work. The kids sing Harrison’s praises as he tucks them into bed, and when all of them beg him to let Harrison come back again tomorrow, what else can he do?
Chapter 13: Snowed In
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
“You know, I’m not sure it would be safe to go outside in this.”
“I’m sure it’s fine, it’s only a bit of snow.”
“That doesn’t seem very responsible of you Drew. What if you caused an accident?”
“In half a centimetre of snow?”
“Most people here aren’t used to it.”
“That seems unlikely.”
“… Most people aren’t used to driving in it here. The town doesn’t tend to get as much as campus.”
“The Sidlesmith magic weather biome?”
“Drew, do you want to pick holes in my argument, or do you want to stay home and have a snow day with me?”
“Oh. Um. What does a snow day consist of?”
“Probably huddling for warmth. In bed would be most sensible. And you know what they say about sharing body heat.”
“Mm, remind me what they say about that?”
“That it’s better naked.”
“How can I say no to that?”
Notes:
I feel like I have arguably written far better propaganda in the form of my snow day fic… which maybe I will link here if future!me remembers to change this…
Chapter 14: Second Chance
Notes:
Look obviously/ I am a slut for second chance romance, I feel like that might be obvious from my fic, maybe not, but I love it I love it I love it.
This is… not that
Chapter Text
“I just wish you’d give me another chance, Drew.”
“What, the first seventeen second chances weren’t enough?”
“Drew, come on.”
“Don’t act like I’m the one being unreasonable here.”
“…”
“You can’t just get your way by making that face every time.”
“… are you sure?”
“Yes.”
“Really?”
“Ugh. Fine. This is your eighteenth second chance. Harrison, please introduce us, despite the fact we’ve been on air this entire time.”
“You’re listening to Kaleidotrope! With Mr Grumpy Face over here, and me, the one person who can change his mind just by looking sadly at him.”
“Yeah, you aren’t introducing us again.”
Chapter 15: Sibling’s Best Friend
Notes:
Oh look, another double and a half Drabble. I think this is the last of those but no promises. Also in my head this and the age gap drabble take place in the same au
Chapter Text
Drew is kind, that’s the thing. Kind when so many were not.
It’s no surprise Harrison’s been infatuated with him since he first learnt what the word meant.
But all those moments had passed, the ones where he’d finally grown up and Drew was supposed to suddenly see him. There’s only so much a guy can delude himself. Harrison had tried to move on.
Except now they’re here, at his brother’s wedding, and Drew in his suit is something no one could ignore. No really, no one — Harrison’s had to chase off at least three women so far, all of whom have mistaken Drew’s utter lack of interest for coy attraction.
“At this rate you’d be better pretending to have a boyfriend.” In the past that would have been a hint, but now it’s just a joke. Except that Drew doesn’t roll his eyes like he’s supposed to.
“Hm,” is all he says.
Until later, when Harrison hears the words, “Have you met my boyfriend?” Followed by his name. He turns to find Drew and woman number four.
“You finally told him?!” That’s Harrison’s brother, and he turns to glare only to find that the word has been directed at Drew.
Which, what?
He’s never seen Drew blush so hard before. He wants to touch it, so he does, ignoring Drew’s stammered excuses. The blush is telling him everything he needs to know.
“This is incredibly cliché,” Drew complains, but he still lets Harrison kiss the embarrassment out of him.
Chapter 16: Bodyguard
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
“You know, if you avoided incredibly risky situations, it would make my life so much easier.”
“Your life, or your job?”
“Oh, both, let’s not pretend there’s any separation at this point.”
“Does that… bother you?”
“Drew. Of course it doesn’t. Anyway, you’re avoiding the point.”
“I can’t avoid every risky situation. What would you rather I do, stay at home all the time? Never go out?”
“I mean, that would be its own issue, if people knew how to find you. But I’ll settle for you not running head-on into danger.”
Drew grumbles, but Harrison can be very persuasive.
Notes:
This concludes the Trope Tournament! I’ve had a lot of fun messing around with these over the last couple of months, and I hope you enjoyed them too 💕
