Work Text:
Derek sighed as he contemplated the sleeping figure resting against him. He’d had such plans for this evening. Their first free weekend in nearly a month, he’d made reservations at a new restaurant they’d both been hoping to try. They were supposed to watch a movie together at home and then head out. He’d been prepared for work to interrupt their evening, a call from the BAU took precedence over almost everything else, but he really hadn’t prepared for this eventuality.
Spencer shifted in his sleep, his mouth opening around a fainty disgruntled sound as he tried to get comfortable against Derek’s body. Derek rubbed his hands absently up and down Spencer’s back, trying to soothe him enough to relax back into sleep.
“Derek?” he murmured, eyes squinting against the faint light of the TV.
“Right here,” Derek said quietly.
“What time is it?”
“Late. You fell asleep when we were watching the movie.”
“Movie?”
“The one you insisted on watching?” Derek prompted dryly. “The one you couldn’t wait to see?”
Spencer blinked at the TV in baffled silence before he closed his eyes and settled against Derek again.
“Why are you dressed up?”
“We were going to dinner, remember?” Derek sighed.
Spencer shot up so quickly that he almost whacked Derek on the chin.
“Dinner!”
“Relax, Spence,” Derek said, holding his hands up. “Our reservation was hours ago. No point getting worked up now.”
“But you must be starving, we could get—”
“I’ve got everything I need right here,” Derek interrupted, cupping Spencer’s cheeks in his hands. “Don’t need anything else.”
Derek leaned forward, intent on kissing Spencer’s smiling lips.
It would have been incredibly romantic if his stomach hadn’t chosen that exact same moment to rumble aggressively. Spencer smirked. Derek rolled his eyes.
“Order a pizza, pretty boy.”
