Waves

Summary:

Odysseus will not delude himself into thinking he could have saved all of his men, but seeing the empty spaces where a few of their ships used to sail left him feeling guilty.

It should have been impossible for them to escape Poseidon’s wrath, let alone leave with half of his crew alive. Yet here they were, terrified Poseidon will change his mind and finish what he started, but still breathing.

Poseidon may have let them go, but the rough waves conveyed his displeasure well.

Notes:

I am not witty or funny… or a sassy person but I am writing both Odysseus and Percy? I don’t think I’ll do them justice but I’ll try! I want Odysseus to be happy! That’s all I want after listening to The Thunder Sega. ;(

So here is his and most of the crew’s chance at happiness!

Would this be off putting if I say I never watched or read the Percy Jackson series… uh- whoops! Let my knowledge from the fanfiction I read guide me.

(Sorry for the bad grammar and other errors!)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“Captain,” Eurylochus called urgently. “The young man is awakening.”

Abandoning his place at the bow of the ship, Odysseus quickly made his way down to the port.

The man looks younger now that he has a better look at him. Because when the man first appeared he had this energy surrounding him. It made him seem larger than he actually was. But right now, the man tied up and huddled on deck, he barely looked older than 20.

Odysseus arrived in time to watch as the man regained consciousness. His arms tugged at the rope binding his arms together and his face creased with confusion before his eyes finally snapped open.

His eyes gleamed sea green.

The same shade of green that Poseidon’s own eyes glowed when he glowered at them.

Odysseus waited until the confused and wild expression faded from the man’s face before he began questioning him.

“Who are you?”

“Ugh,” the man groaned. “I just woke up. Can’t you give a guy a break before you start asking questions?”

“Who are you?” Odysseus asked again, because if this man happened to be related to Poseidon and is a danger to him and his people…

“Okay fine. I am now awake.”

Odysseus raised an eyebrow.

“Alright, I am Percy.”

“Are you related to Poseidon?”

“Unfortunately I am.” Percy said, but quickly explained himself once he saw the people around him tense. “But I do not mean any harm! If I remember correctly, I was the one who stopped my dad from killing you all.”

Which wasn’t a good statement to say.

“Dad?” Odysseus parroted back, his fingers twitching.

“Geez, you all are jumpy… and yes, Poseidon is my father.”

“Your father… didn’t seem to recognize you.”

“Yeah- well, he doesn’t know me at this time.”

“What?”

Percy muttered under his breath about someone named “Abeth” before he stood up. Eurylochus and a couple of the crew raised their swords defensively, but Percy only moved to awkwardly fix his hair.

“Anyways, could you untie me?” Percy asked, avoiding the previous question. “I would hate to be at a disadvantage when my dad comes back.”

“Poseidon will come back?” Odysseus said, his heart thumping loudly. They couldn’t possibly survive another encounter, could they?

“Definitely. I may have stunned him earlier, but he will want answers.” Percy said, his eyes scanning over the dangerous water. “And judging by these waves I’ll say he is pretty pissed. And nearby.”

Before Odysseus could form a response, a rough voice rumbled and shook the ship. “Odysseus of Ithaca… do you know who you have?”

And wouldn’t Odysseus like to know as well?

“Oh,” Percy said, shaking off the rope and squinting. “You seem… different.”

“And you seem out of place.” Poseidon said calmly, but Odesseus noticed a wave threatening to go over the gunwale.

“Yes I am. But let’s go, we shouldn’t be here.” Percy replied with a tired smile. He walked as far as he could to Poseidon on the ship. “Although I am glad to see you.”

Which is so not true for everyone else on the ship.

“Why should we leave now? I happen to like being here.”

Odysseus couldn’t see Percy’s face, but whatever expression he made had Poseidon grumble “but I made a song I wanted to sing.”

Percy sighed, like he was the tired parent, and jumped into the water.

“Let’s go.” Percy said again, swimming to Poseidon. “Say goodbye to your friends.”

“Any last words?” Poseidon said instead, an amused smile growing on his lips while he looked at Odysseus expectedly.

Odysseus didn’t respond and instead lifted the bag of wind. He didn’t want to waste this chance to escape, and who knows what could anger Poseidon if he said anything.

Without another word, Odysseus ripped the bag open and a huge gust of wind escaped the bag.

“Odysseus…?” Eurylochus said hesitantly.

Odysseus turned towards his best friend, or more accurately his brother, with a smile on his face.

“What is it, Eurylochus? We survived Poseidon!”

“Yes we did.” Eurylochus agreed, but his expression of worry didn’t change. “But the rest of our men didn’t…”

“What?”

“This ship was the only one to catch the wind. Our other ships are…”

Odysseus and Eurylochus look back.

They could barely see because of how far they were, but 6 little ships could be seen in the distance.

Poseidon’s laughter wasn’t that hard to hear.

-

“Dad, let them go.”

“Do we have to let them live? These guys are supposed to be dead anyways.”

“Dad.”

“Okay, but do we have to help them get back to -ugh- Odysseus? I want to see his face when turns his ship around. It’ll be hilarious!”

“…”

“Okay fine. Don’t be fun.”

“…”

“First you take away my moment - I wrote a song for this day! - and now you won’t let me have some fun. When did you become so serious?”

Notes:

Percy: *minding his own business doing whatever Percy does*

Me: *throws Percy in the past because I am sad and want everyone to be happy*

-

Poseidon from the future: *gets thrown to the past with his son*

Poseidon from the future when he sees Odysseus: *smirks and puts on his best performance*

-

Poseidon was NOT supposed to follow Percy! He just kinda showed up uninvited and was ready to mess with Odysseus… I promise you I didn’t intend for him to come along, lol! But it works out bc there was an 80% chance more people could’ve died (I had planned for Poseidon to sink a few more ships in his rage…) buuuut since it’s not the angry Poseidon and instead is the one who… overcame his vengeances (?) that percentage went down to 15! :D

Dialogues are hard! And this is very scary posting with the comments on… but I must overcome my fear somehow and someday! Today is the day… hi T^T
