Work Text:

You may have heard of Tedros and Agatha, the two rulers of Camelot. You might have also heard some... stories of quests to prove their love.

Well, the epic love story of Agatha and Tedros didn't start as you might have been told. It started out quite simply, in fact.

It started with a cat.

~

Agatha was sitting on a bench in a park with her friend Sophie, when she heard some kind of commotion over to the side of her. She looked over and saw a man chasing... a cat?

"Quick, catch that cat!!! That cat stole my wallet!!" The man shouted and Agatha raised an eyebrow in disbelief and amusement.

Sophie giggled from next to her. "Isn't that Reaper?" she whispered in Agatha's ear and Agatha's eyes widened as she realized that cat was, in fact, Reaper. And Reaper was running straight towards her.

She threw her arms in the air as if to protect her, but Reaper seemed to slip right through them and curled up on her lap, the man's wallet in his mouth. Agatha quickly clamped her hands around Reaper and grabbed the wallet from him, ignoring his yowls.

The man ran up to them, sweat beading his forehead and breathing heavily. Agatha blushed and held out the wallet for him.

"I'm so sorry," she said, stuttering a bit. "I don't know how Reaper even got here, I could have sworn I left him at home. Here's your wallet - again, I am so sorry." Beside her, Sophie kept giggling, not helping her at all.

The man smiled. "It's fine. You know how pets can be." His eyes flicked over to Reaper and narrowed for a second as the cat hissed at him. He stuck his tongue out at the cat and Agatha laughed. Then the man turned back to her. He smiled. "I'm Tedros. It's nice to meet you...?" He held his hand out for her to shake and waited expectantly for her to introduce herself.

"Agatha. I'm Agatha," Agatha replied, reaching out and shaking his hand. Then she gestured to Sophie next to her. "And this is my very unhelpful friend Sophie." She nudged Sophie in the side and Sophie gasped in mock offense.

Tedros smiled. "Well, it's nice to meet you too, Sophie." He looked at the watch on his wrist and cursed quietly. "I'm afraid I have to go now." He looked apologetically at the girls. "Thank you again for getting me my wallet back."

Agatha snorted. "Well it was my cat that took it, so you don't really owe me any thanks."

Tedros shrugged. "Well if it weren't for you, I might have never gotten it back." Then he turned and walked away, but not before giving Sophie and Agatha a small wave.

~

Years later, Agatha looked back on that day and marveled at how lucky she was. She was married to Tedros now - she had seen him again a few days later and he had asked her out on a date and everything had fallen into place after that. After nearly two years of dating, Tedros had asked her to marry him and she had said yes.

Sophie had been ecstatic when it had happened. She had both a boyfriend and girlfriend, Nicola and Hort, and they were like family to Agatha. They all helped Agatha plan the wedding, Agatha asking Sophie and Nicola to be her bridesmaids.

Nicola, Hort and Sophie weren't married due to laws preventing polyamorous marriage, but Agatha looked forward to the day they were allowed to, and she could help plan her best friend's wedding like Sophie had done for her.

So now do you see? Tedros and Agatha are as mortal as you and I - not quite the legendary King and Queen you may have been brought up to believe. But although their meeting might have started out mundane, they have proved their worth time and time again to the Kingdom of Camelot, and to themselves and have battled many evils throughout the years.

Not quite the fairy tale you thought, eh?
