Work Text:
It was a late night in the Candy Kingdom, the stars in the sky are the only lights in the kingdom as the buildings, stores and homes have turned in for the night.
The inhabited citizens were in a peaceful sleep, letting the ambience of the night to be their lullaby.
Well, except for one, She cared about her citizens and friends, but she also learned she wasn't a good person at all. Bonnibel’s behavior in the past makes a lot more sense to her on why her people rejected her for a stranger.
But it helped her reflect and opened a chance to be better for her and the ones she loved. After helping Marceline with her vampire problems and regaining her thorne, Bonnie felt like a different person.
Bonnie was working a crossword puzzle, she felt like she needed something to do considering she didn’t feel tired yet.
Crossword puzzles were fun for Bonnie, even though not everyone is a fan, she thinks of it like a challenge for the brain. She was this close to finishing it until a knock on the window caused her to retire from her chair.
She was ready to call the banana guards if it was the Ice King doing his usual kidnapping biz, but was relieved at the sight of a certain floating vampire wearing a hoodie.
“Sup Bonnie, what are you up to?”
“Nothing much, just wrapping up this last puzzle.”
“Cool. I know this gonna be random but-”
“Do you wanna hang out Marcy, because I'm guessing that you are here right? ” Bonnie interrupted.
“You read me like a book, Pebbs!” Marceline admitted with enthusiasm.
Originally, Bubblegum was gonna say no but changed her mind at the last minute. She was already wearing a t-shirt and pajama pants so she didn’t need to change.
“I don’t mind, let me get some shoes first.” Bonnie said as she searched for any available shoes.
“Take your time.” Marcy said as she waited for Bubblegum.
“Ready to go!” Bonnie said, putting on her running shoes as she held on to Marcy firmly.
“Alright, hang on to those buns, Pb!” Marcy announced, transforming into a giant bat as the two soared into the night sky.
While the view of the castle became distant, a howling breeze attached on Bonnie’s pink body as she calmly looked at the stars in the sky, she needed some air anyway from the busy duties she was doing all day and hanging out with Marceline gave her fragments of nostalgia.
Whether making mischief or spending a fun time together, they somehow make it interesting.
Her feelings for Marcy have been rekindling lately, despite their past relationship ending on a disastrous note.
But after trying to understand each other, Bonnibel gained some nuance on Marcy, girlfriend, ex or just friend, she is still a part of Marcy’s world and would help her anyway, ether fighting vampires or varmits alongside her, giving up her favorite t-shirt from the night she saw Marcy on that fateful concert for something valuable to Marcy, or even admitting that she glubbed up with the person she loved.
The girls did a quick snack run at the Squeez-E-Mart, Marceline got a cherry red slushie while Bonnie got pink lemonade. They found a quiet hill to relax on as they sip their slushies, trying not to get a brain freeze.
“Must be some dank day huh?” Marceline questioned, “How come Finn and Jake didn’t help?”
“Bmo said they were busy all day, about a pickle jar and a giant hand.” Bubblegum answered
“But it’s ok, Starchy really needs to quit touching stuff from my lab .”
“Leave it to Bonnibel Bubblegum, the princess who knows all!” Marceline playfully teases Bonnie.
“Hey, you dingus! Can you name anyone who is smarter than me?” Bubblegum chuckled, sending a light punch on Marcy’s shoulder in return.
“I don't, because I have you.” Marceline replied, seeing Bubblegum blushed a different version of pink.
“Anyway P-Buds, i gotta ask you something, but you have to swear you won’t lose your lumps?”
“Ok, sure.”
“Simon is having a dinner party and I want you to go with me please?”
The mood was shattered suddenly when Marcy dropped the question.
“A party with the Ice King, no flipping way!” Bonnie quickly rejected. “Wait, is that why you want to hang out with me tonight?”
“Well, yes and no.” Marcy confessed.
“You don’t have to like him but give it a chance, he isn’t kidnapping princesses and he has been making progress. You know how important Simon is to me and I thought it would be fun to bring someone I care to go too, please Peebs?” Marcy begged.
“Fine, I go. As long as he doesn’t pull any wacked up tricks.” Bonnibel admitting defeat.
“Thanks PB. Don’t worry, you regret it.” Marceline said reassuringly .
“Sadly, I already am.”
