Sitting in Katya’s cafe talking new uses for bard spells with Eda might be as close to heaven as Raine had any interest in getting. “No, I’m not going to bother with all that. I was going to adapt that sleeping spell, actually.”
“Really? I thought you needed a guitar for that.”
Their hands flapped, face lighting up in a grin. It had been too long since they’d gotten to talk about this stuff properly. They missed teaching. “That’s a common misconception, actually! The instrument type matters, but much less than the kind of music being played. You can adapt basically any spell to any instrument, you just have to keep in mind that-”
They glanced up and Eda was watching them, eyes wide. Heart now hammering for an entirely unrelated reason, they froze. “Sorry. Got excited.”
“You’re gorgeous.” She said softly.
They ducked their head. That was not something they had expected. Cute, perhaps. They’d gotten that often enough, along with a patronising smile and sometimes a literal pat on the head. Gorgeous . . . was something new. Something they didn’t quite believe.
Something they found they wanted to.
Eda leant over and elbowed them. “Keep going Rainestorm.”
