The arrest of a member spread like wildfire through the Osaka Higashi Police Station. True to their namesake, the group have been evading the Police like ghosts for over eight months. To have finally captured one of its members is a monumental moment to remember. The whole precinct knew of Captain Mei Kobayashi and Detective Kenzo Wagasa’s growing frustration and dwindling temperance with the lack of credible evidence and fruitless investigations.
After eight months, they had finally made a mistake; a bullet casing was recovered. CSI Bethany Franklin was the one who had found the casing at the last crime scene three weeks ago, thus bringing about the investigation of an illegal firearm shipment. While one of the gun sellers spilled all they knew about the Yūrei Gang for a reduced sentence, the group were slippery and relocated before the police were even able to obtain a search warrant. In their haste however, clues were left and the police was able to identify one of the members: Julekka Yamamoto.
The clicking of heels breaks through the station’s whispered gossip. Bethany wasn’t sure what to think. She’d recently transferred from the United-States as a Crime Scene Investigator. The atmosphere around the precinct had already been tense by the time she arrived, leaving Bethany with a brief introduction to her coworkers and little time to get to know her coworkers. Detective Wagasa was walking beside her; it seems Captain Kobayashi has requested us both to his office.
In the meanwhile, Julekka was staring blankly to the interrogation table she was handcuffed to, ignoring Officer Jirou’s presence. It seems Akio hadn’t informed his colleagues of their close relations. She wondered if he resented her, afterall he was an honest officer and she’s a criminal. Akio’s face was carefully emotionless and he hadn’t once glanced at her, so Julekka couldn’t tell what he was thinking. It was an odd coincidence that he was the one to guard her alone in the same room instead of where she guesses are the other policemen behind the one way mirror.
Keeping herself still, Julekka waited patiently for Detective Wagasa. Oh, she knew of his irritation regarding their gang’s thriving success from the occasional slip up from Akio. She wondered how her friends were doing. While she’s sure Katski would forever deny any friendships with any of them, she knew deep down he really cared. She wondered if he and Shoto would still argue on who’s the real leader or if they would be able to put aside their differences and plan the gang’s next course of actions. She wondered if Ichika was still planning to dye her hair pink or if she would choose another color. Rejected by their blood, all four of them came together to pursue the same goal. Somewhere down the line, they became their own little ragtag family. While Julekka was distracted reminiscing, the sound of a chair scraping against the hard floor snaps her out of her thoughts. Detective Wagasa is now sitting opposite of her, looking like he would prefer to be anywhere else than trapped in this little interrogation room with her.
