“Don’t you ever get the feeling that Jimin might, I don’t know,” Wonyoung, a fellow prey hybrid—Rabbit, asks Minjeong. And in a quieter and conspiratorial tone, she adds, “ Bite you? Or worse, might eat you?”
Minjeong giggles, waving Wonyoung off.
“She’d never!” Minjeong says. “Jimin is a good friend of mine and she’s never been that kind of predator.”
Wonyoung eyes her friend oddly and decides to leave it be, hoping her friend lives another day for her to see.
Minjeong, born part lamb and barely yet a sheep, has been living with a fellow university student since her freshman year of college. She’s been living with Yu Jimin, a wolf hybrid and one year her senior.
Though it’s oddly unconventional for a wolf and lamb to be friends, it’s even stranger that they’ve been able to live under one roof and coexist without any issues. It’s predator against prey, but Minjeong cherishes Jimin as a friend and loves having her as a housemate.
Though Jimin’s exterior may be a little bit off-putting with her tall and sharp ears, Minjeong thinks they’re fluffy. She has two prominent canines and Minjeong thinks Jimin’s smile is beautiful. And best of all, Jimin has a long, swishy tail that is soft to touch and warm like a blanket when Minjeong is sometimes cold. Jimin is also a star player on the basketball court and on the outside; of course she’s well built and bigger than Minjeong.
But to Minjeong, Jimin is the kindest person she knows and is all mushy on the inside. The taller girl cries watching movies and is deathly scared of domesticated birds.
Minjeong thinks she’s the best person ever.
“Speaking of the wolf, there she is.” Wonyoung says and Minjeong finishes packing up her bag, turning to the entrance of the study hall to see the shy wolf waving a hand.
Though Wonyoung slightly doubts Jimin’s intentions and species, she still smiles at her politely.
“I’ll see you tomorrow.” Minjeong beams before trudging down to meet Jimin.
“There she goes.” Wonyoung sighs, playing with her rabbit ear.
“Wonyoung-ah!” Yujin follows after Jimin, with a bright grin and her puppy tail wagging behind her.
“Coming!” Wonyoung hops up.
“Oof—” Jimin groans slightly at the impact of Minjeong running full speed at her as they meet in a hug.
“Hi.” Minjeong giggles.
“Hi there, princess.” Jimin chuckles.
Jimin takes Minjeong’s booksack and places it over her shoulder but Minjeong tugs it back.
“I can hold it.” Minjeong pouts.
“I want to hold it for you.” Jimin smiles.
“But you just came back from basketball practice. Where’s your bag, by the way?” Minjeong says.
“I went back to the apartment first to shower and prepare dinner.” Jimin tells her.
“Oh. You didn’t have to come to get me as well.” Minjeong blushes and the pinkness of her skin shows through her curly lamb ears.
“I wanted to. I didn’t want you to take the bus home alone.” Jimin says nonchalantly.
“Well, how was practice then?” Minjeong asks with a bounce in her steps as they head to the bus stop.
“It was good. The new team is definitely better at working together now." Jimin beams, her ears flat against her head, as she talks to Minjeong.
“Obviously everything is going well! You’re the captain!” Minjeong grins and Jimin blushes.
The bus ride consists of Minjeong dozing off due to her long lectures and in the presence of Jimin, it’s too comfortable to not feel sleepy. Jimin presses Minjeong’s head down to her shoulder and Minjeong hugs her arm, snuggling up to her. Jimin tries her best to ignore onlookers on the bus and just remains gleeful in Minjeong’s warmth.
“So what’s on the menu, chef?” Minjeong sits at the kitchen counter, situated on a leather-bound stool, kicking her legs back and forth.
Jimin busies herself around in the kitchen and Minjeong watches her with her chin resting on the palm of her hand. Jimin’s sleeves are rolled up and her wolf-cut hair is tied in a tiny bun that looks silly to Minjeong but her arms, however, do not. Jimin is a very fit person and Minjeong loves to feel safe in her arms.
“Veggie burgers!” Jimin turns around with a set-out tray for Minjeong. In the centre is a plate with one burger on it with a side of sauce. Beside it is a basket of handmade chips, a glass of a sweet fizzy drink that Minjeong adores, and a linen napkin with a fork and knife set.
“It looks amazing!” Minjeong perks up.
“You don’t usually eat a lot so I decided to make something filling for us.” Jimin says, leaning on the counter with her own messy plate with everything thrown on it and two burgers for her big appetite.
“Thank you, Jiminie.” Minjeong grins.
“Y-you’re welcome.” Jimin’s ears lay flatter against her head shyly.
Minjeong digs in with her fork and knife and she looks at Jimin from time to time to see her eat as well. When she does look at Jimin, she finds the wolf already looking at her.
“You’re staring again.” Minjeong chuckles.
“S-sorry. I just wanted to know if it was good or not.” Jimin blushes.
“You don’t have to worry.” Minjeong giggles teasingly. “Your cooking is always the most delicious to me.”
Jimin blushes and eats her food quickly to hide her giddiness, but Minjeong sees her wagging tail from the corner of her eye and decides not to say anything.
While Minjeong is half done with the burger, she looks up to find Jimin already finished and sipping down her beverage.
She blinks.
She’s been aware of Jimin’s big appetite since she moved in with her and became friends with her, but seeing it in person constantly still surprises her sometimes at how quickly Jimin downs her meals, showing no signs of discomfort in her digestive system.
But she wonders sometimes why Jimin never eats meat at home. The obvious reason is that Minjeong is an herbivore and doesn’t eat meat, but Minjeong isn’t uncomfortable with being around meat. She has carnivore friends as well, but Jimin always eats vegetarian food outside with her and cooks vegetarian meals at home as well.
Jimin had told her because she wanted to accommodate Minjeong since she was the one looking for a roommate all those years ago but she told Jimin she didn’t have to, but she still had until this day.
“Jimin.” Minjeong places down her utensils and wipes her mouth with the linen napkin.
“Hm?” Jimin blinks.
“How come you never eat meat at home?” Minjeong asks.
“You know why.” Jimin tilts her head curiously. “You’re a herbivore. I want to eat the same as you.”
“Yeah, but don’t you sometimes miss eating meat?” Minjeong questions. “You need a lot of protein too as a wolf and an athlete.”
“I mean, not really.” Jimin hums. “I like being a vegetarian. Even when I eat with my teammates and family, I eat very little meat. It just doesn't match my palate.”
"Doesn't it match your palate?” Minjeong laughs. “Why does that sound incredibly odd?”
“Don’t bully me for it.” Jimin pouts. “The others tease me about it.”
“I won’t.” Minjeong giggles. “But I just wanted to check if you're not just vegetarian because I am too.”
Jimin reaches over and brushes a sauce stain from the corner of Minjeong’s lip and brings it to her mouth, licking it nonchalantly.
“Well, that too.” Jimin says softly, smiling brightly.
Minjeong blinks, a blush rising to her cheeks.

“Your class is on the other side of campus, Jimin.” Minjeong whines to Jimin.
“I want to walk you to yours fast.” Jimin chuckles. “I’m an athlete; I can run to mine. You, however, shouldn’t be running in the halls, princess. I’ll do the running.”
“Cheeseball.” Minjeong grumbles.
Still, Minjeong walks with her hand intertwined with Jimin’s, swinging them back and forth with a pep in her steps. Her bag is held by Jimin again and she likes it like this. Though they toe in between the lines of friends and something more that the older girl can’t put her nose on since she’s dense, it still feels amazing to know someone can treat her this well without ulterior motives.
Though Jimin is always weary of her actions towards Minjeong. Perhaps it has something to do with her being a prey and Jimin herself is classified as a predator. She always wants to treat Minjeong well, even if it means Minjeong might never be hers to hold.
When they pass through a group of girls and other peers, Jimin sees their apprehensive glances at herself and Minjeong, and she grows self-conscious. She slips her hand out of Minjeong’s just before they make it to Minjeong’s class.
Minjeong watches her empty hand, a strange feeling of sadness brewing inside of her.
“Well, here you are.” Jimin scratches her nape awkwardly, handing Minjeong’s bag to her.
“You dropped my hand…” Minjeong mumbles.
“Pardon?” Jimin blinks, leaning down to hear Minjeong.
“Nothing.” Minjeong smiles curtly. “Um, thanks for walking me. Wonyoungie and Yujinie might want to meet at the café later.”
“I’ll see you then.” Jimin smiles.
“Of course.” Minjeong nods.
This time, they do not part with a silly kiss on the cheek or even a hug. Just an awkward wave from Jimin and a lingering gaze from Minjeong.

“Seriously, you’re so popular, Jeong.” Wonyoung groans. “Somi asked me about you again and so did my cousin Jaemin.”
“Nice to know.” Minjeong hums uninterestedly, flipping a page in her novel.
They’re on break at the moment and Minjeong and Wonyoung decided to go to a café to study and relax. While ordering drinks, the cashier had hit on Minjeong, and she didn’t react at all, which led to Wonyoung spiralling into another discussion of dating for Minjeong. And consequently, Yujin was dragged into it when she arrived after.
“How about Jake?” Yujin suggests showing an Instagram profile. “He’s not from my litter but he’s a cute guy! Good at soccer and super nice too.”
“Not interested.” Minjeong hums.
“Seriously? You didn’t look!” Yunjin whines.
“Don’t want to.” Minjeong smiles.
“You’re so—” Wonyoung huffs.
“Jimin!” Minjeong perks up, waving to the girl at the entrance to come to them.
Not again. Wonyoung grumbles and Yujin, as oblivious as ever, waves over her teammate excitedly.
“Hey guys,” Jimin ducks her head politely and takes the unoccupied seat beside Minjeong, putting her bag down. Then she turns to Minjeong, who is already beaming at her. She pays Minjeong’s head gently, smiling fondly. “Hi, Minjeongie.”
“You took a bit long after class.” Minjeong says.
“Yeah, the professor was asking to keep up my grades since I’m in the range for a scholarship.” Jimin tells them.
“Really? Congrats!” Minjeong squeezes Jimin’s arm.
“Thanks.” Jimin flushes.
“Jimin-unnie, convince Jeongie to meet this guy!” Yujin whines to her senior and teammate.
“What?” Jimin blinks.
“Look! He’s cute, a complete golden retriever; he’s smart and very nice!” Yujin says.
“Yah, why don’t you go and date him then?” Wonyoung nudges Yujin.
“What?! I’d never date anyone other than you, Wonie!” Yujin says and Wonyoung smiles proudly. “Anyway, come on—he’s a catch!”
“I said I wasn’t interested.” Minjeong frowns.
“Jimin-unnie, what do you think?” Yujin looks at her full puppy eyed and she almost caves.
She looks at his Instagram profile and he really does seem like a nice guy to date, but for Minjeong? Selfishly, it means she won’t have all the time to spend with Minjeong anymore. Jimin wants to keep the little lamb all to herself because Minjeong’s shown her the best and most comfortable parts of herself and that’s something she doesn’t want to share with anyone else.
“Jiminie?” Minjeong looks at her. “What do you think I should do?”
“Uhm,” Jimin blinks.
Wonyoung watches the wolf curiously to see any sign of hostility and jealousy, except she’s surprised when Jimin’s ears twitch and fall flat against her head droopily in the face of sweet little Minjeong.
“Um, if you want to date him, you can.” Jimin says it almost dejectedly.
“But do you want me to?” Minjeong means closer and Jimin ducks away.
“Uhm... Y-yes?" Jimin flushes.
“Hm. Okay.” Minjeong turns away and suddenly everything is different.
Minjeong is quiet for the rest of the day and even when she returns home to Jimin. She busies herself in her room and doesn’t come over to bother Jimin at all.
Wonyoung noticed for the rest of their classes that Minjeong was dejected and as a good friend, she told Yujin to drop the dating thing for now.
Wonyoung can clearly see that Minjeong likes Jimin and she has the sense that Jimin likes her too. But those two won’t know unless someone says something to each other.
She sighs in frustration.
Then there’s an obvious shift. Minjeong doesn’t greet her warmly anymore and they don’t cuddle often either. Minjeong turns in early almost every night for the past few days and worst of all, Jimin doesn’t get cute food anymore.
“Why’s Minjeong not sitting with you?” Aeri pokes a sad Jimin.
“I think I upset her.” Jimin pouts, poking at her sad lunch that Minjeong didn’t prepare for her this morning. “But I don’t know what I did.”
"Well, can you make up with her?” Aeri huffs, her black cat ears twitching with annoyance. “My girlfriend doesn’t want to sit with me either.”
Jimin turns to Minjeong’s table forlornly, watching as Ningning’s tiger tail wraps around Minjeong comfortingly.
“Man, you must have done something bad.” Aeri winces. “I don’t think it’s easy to upset Minjeong and you’ve gone right ahead and done a good job of it.”
“Stop rubbing it in my face!” Jimin grumbles.
“Why? Are you going to cry?” Aeri snorts, but she doesn’t expect Jimin to turn to her with what appears to be the expression of a wet dog.
“ Yes!” Jimin whines, her bottom lip juts out pathetically.
“Jeez, lighten up a bit. And they say you’re the big bad predator.” Aeri snorts, patting Jimin in solidarity. “Just talk to her. You guys literally live with each other.”
Jimin sighs, hitting her head against the cool cafeteria table.

Minjeong had sent her a single message in the morning on this fine Saturday. It was a feeling of doom, like her heart fell through her ass, down into the ground.
Minjeongie <3 - Don’t wait up for me. I have a date.
Jimin felt like a part of her died.
Saturdays were reserved for them. They would watch movies, go on walks, cook together or maybe go shopping. But now Jimin is home alone with nothing to do. This almost blindsided her, but in hindsight, perhaps it was her fault. When Yujin was egging Minjeong on to go on a date with Jake, it convinced Minjeong to go because she said yes. She should’ve said no.
All these feelings stewing inside of her—she’s known she’s liked Minnjeong for a long time but never acted on it. Why should she have acted on it? She was a predator—a big bad wolf—and Minjeong was a little sheep who needed a place to live close to campus.
Though they are people as well, the likes of their kinds being together is not usual and is looked down upon.
No one trusts a wolf around a sheep; she’s known that for a while. Jimin knows that Minjeong’s friends are wary of her too.
Before she knows it, it’s nightfall, and she’s been sitting on the couch all day, waiting for Minjeong to come home.
Jimin’s seconds away from dozing off, but her ear twitches when she hears the sound of the front door unlocking. She sits up and pretends to be causal, turning on the TV and preparing herself to act like she is very interested in the news channel, talking about an insurgency in public graffiti.
“Jimin, hey.” Minjeong almost stumbled in her steps, surprised when she saw the wolf sitting on the couch, expecting her to be asleep already.
Minjeong’s cheeks are flushed and there’s a scent of citrus and wood that is unfamiliar to her and makes her nose itch. She swallows her feelings away.
“H-hey.” Jimin tries (fails) to be casual.
“Were you waiting up?” Minjeong asks hesitantly.
“No, uh, just wanted to catch up with th-the, uhm, news.” Jimin is fumbling badly.
“Oh. Right. Is it, um, interesting?” Minjeong speaks awkwardly.
“Y-yeah. Lot’s of graffiti.” Jimin nods haphazardly.
“Okay. Um, I’m going to go wash up.” Minjeong smiles tightly.
“Mkay. I’ll be right here.” Jimin chuckles mechanically.
Minjeong turns into her room and Jimin sags into the couch. She tugs down on her ears in frustration and groans under her breath.
“Jimin!”
Jimin jumps up and almost falls face first into the coffee table when Minjeong reappears suddenly.
“Y-yeah?” Jimin’s voice cracks.
“That was awkward, right?” Minjeong huffs, a sad frown to her eyebrows. “We don’t do awkward.”
“I mean, yeah, kind of.” Jimin answers softly.
“Right. What’s wrong with us?” Minjeong asks sadly.
“Nothing. We’re okay, right?” Jimin says.
“I… I guess so.” Minjeong nods.
A small silence passes through and suddenly it feels like the first week that Minjeong moved into Jimin’s apartment.
“How was your date?” Jimin asks, mindlessly picking non-existent lint from her grey sweats.
“It was okay.” Minjeong says. “I had fun.”
“Oh.” Jimin blinks. “Did you—do you like him?”
“I do.” Minjeong nods.
“Oh.” Jimin’s tail stops wagging idly.
“But we agreed to be friends.” Minjeong says.
Minjeong squares her shoulders, having to put on a brave face in front of her cowardly wolf.
“Why?” Jimin blinks.
“I like someone else.” Minjeong smiles softly.
“You—you like someone else?” Jimin could have cried in that second Minjeong uttered that. “Who?”
“Someone really dense and really cowardly.” Minjeong grins softly, moving towards Jimin. “Someone who is very sweet to me and cooks for me all the time and never tells me off for anything I do.”
“O-oh.” Jimin looks down at the floor, biting back tears when Minjeong stands in front of her. “Does that person like you too?”
“Do you?” Minjeong leans down, craning her neck to peek at Jimin’s hidden away face. “Do you like me?”
Jimin blinks.
She looks up and comes face to face with Minjeong.
“W-what?” Jimin’s tail wags.
“Do you like me like I like you, Yu Jimin?” Minjeong asks, reaching out to play with the drawstring of Jimin’s sweatpants.
“I…” Jimin’s eyes widened, her ears standing tall.
“I’ve liked you for a long time.” Minjeong confesses. “It happened right under my nose, but before I knew it, I was comfortable with you and I looked forward to being with you often. I like you, Yu Jimin.”
Minjeong looks at her expectantly through her round and wide childlike gaze.
“I love you.” Jimin utters softly.
“What?” Minjeong blinks, a blush crawling to her pale skin rapidly.
“What?” Jimin blinks.
“You just said you loved me.” Minjeong smiles softly.
“N-no. What! No, I didn’t!” Jimin’s face burns red, her ears fall flat against her head and her tail wraps around herself in embarrassment.
“Yes, you did.” Minjeong giggles, stepping forward to wrap her arms around Jimin’s waist. “You love me!”
Jimin sighs softly, leaning her red face against Minjeong’s shoulder, smiling fondly when she sees a peek of Minjeong’s little tail wagging.
“I didn’t want to tell you this way.” Jimin wraps her arms around Minjeong.
“Were you ever going to tell me?” Minjeong asks.
Jimin doesn’t reply and only holds Minjeong closer.
“Jimin?” Minjeong tries to pull away but Jimin tightens her embrace.
“Just, can we stay like this for a second?” Jimin sniffles.
“Are you crying?” Minjeong worries.
“N-no… yes. A little bit.” Jimin clears her throat, her tears soaking through Minjeong’s dress.
“Why are you crying?” Minjeong chuckles softly.
“I didn’t think you liked me too.” Jimin hiccups.
Minjeong coos, finding this big “bad” wolf so adorable. She pats Jimin’s head, aweing and slightly teasing her.
“Why would you think that?” Minjeong asks. “I’m always comfortable with you.”
“But I know what people say and think.” Jimin mumbles miserably. “We’re of different kinds.”
“We’re already two girls; what more will make people look at us differently?” Minjeong says. “I like you and you like me. That’s what’s important.”
“I really love you, Kim Minjeong.” Jimin hugs Minjeong tightly until they’re practically moulded into one being.
“I love you too.” Minjeong giggles.
They pull away and as natural as it can be, Minjeong leans up on her toes and kisses Jimin. Jimin’s eyes flutter close and she melts into Minjeong, arms coming up to rest against Minjeong’s hips. Minjeong’s lips move softly and Jimin responds smoothly, trying to not lose her mind since she’s kissing the girl of her dreams.
When Minjeong pulls away with a big grin on her face and blushing cheeks, Jimin smiles with her eyes closed—savouring the moment.
She licks her lips, tasting the remnants of Minjeong and her gloss and hums softly.
“You taste sweet.” Jimin smirks, opening her eyes.
When Jimin heads to bed, it’s in a different environment of flower-embroidered cotton sheets and dangling fairy lights illuminating the place that she once hung for Minjeong.
“When did you start liking me?” Minjeong giggles, her chin against Jimin’s chest.
“It’s embarrassing.” Jimin mumbles, averting her gaze.
“Don’t tell me it was love at first sight!” Mineong laughs.
“W-well!” Jimin groans.
“It totally was!”
“I thought you were cute, okay!” Jimin huffs. “And then I got to know you and you were the sweetest thing I’ve ever come across. I knew I wanted to be someone in your life despite everything else.”
“You’re so cute, Yu Jimin.” Minjeong giggles and before Jimin can protest, she shuts her up with a chaste kiss.
Jimin rolls her eyes, running her hand through Minjeong’s blonde curls.
“What about me then?” Jimin asks.
“Hm. When you were playing basketball.” Minjeong quips.
Seriously?”
“Mhm.”
“You’re so—”
Minjeong kisses her again.
The night takes Jimin easily.
Minjeong hugs her like a lifeline and everything feels warm and just right.
Jimin stirs awake, a gentle scent tickling her nose as she opens her eyes. She adjusts to the sunlight seeping through her blinds and feels something fuzzy brushing against her chin. She cranes her neck and then she smiles, remembering what occurred the night before.
Minjeong sleeps soundly on Jimin’s chest without a care in the world. Her blonde hair fluffs up against Jimin’s chin and her sweet flowery-like scent floats around the room comfortingly.
Jimin cups the back of Minjeong’s head, grooming her bed hair and for self-enjoyment, she rubs and pats Minjeong’s ears. That has the smaller girl rousing from her slumber. She whines softly and lifts her head, all bleary-eyed to pout at Jimin.
“It tickles.” Minjeong whines.
“You always pet my ears.” Jimin grins lazily.
"Yeah, because I think you’re cute and you let me.” Minjeong pouts.
“I think you’re just sensitive, aren’t you?” Jimin smirks.
“No…” Minjeong’s pout intensifies.
“I think so.” Jimin chuckles.
Sneakily, the hand rubbing Minjeong’s back moves down lower just until she feels Minjeong’s cute curly tail. She touches it playfully and Minjeong yelps, jumping back and falling on her backside on the bed, both hands clutching her tail.
“Jimin!” Minjeong cries out.
“You’re sensitive.” Jimin chuckles, sitting up to pull Minjeong back into her.
“W-wait.” Minjeong whines softly but still curls into Jimin.
Then Jimin notices it.
Minjeong’s soft scent is much stronger and there’s a pink tint to her pale skin. Her ears tuck back against her head and the tips of them are rosy, just like her cheeks.
“ Oh, you’re—”
“Be quiet.” Minjeong clamps her hands over Jimin’s mouth. “Tell me when you’re going to touch me again.”
“Sorry.” Jimin grins sheepishly. “But I’m your girlfriend. I’m allowed to always touch you, right?”
“You always touch me anyway. And when did you ask me to be your girlfriend?” Minjeong scowls cutely.
“Minjeong, will you please let me be your girlfriend? I can’t exist without you.” Jimin shows her best puppy eyes.
“You’re cheesy.” MInjeong giggles. “Yes.”
“I’m your cheesy.” Jimin grins, cupping the back of Minjeong’s head to bring her into a sweet kiss.
THE END <3
