Chapter Text

Prologue

“They’re gone Harry they’re all gone.”

Ron cried as he held Hermoine in his arms. The war was over but the result was far worse than anybody on either side expected—Harry, who had died to save them, felt nothing but numbness. Why had he come back when there was no one left?

What was the point if he wasn't returning to Mrs.Weasley's home-cooked meals, Hermione’s nagging about their homework, or seeing and playing with Tonks and Remus’s son? His godson. Why did he come back if everyone is in the afterlife he chose to leave for them. Why. why…WHY? Before he started spiraling further down he felt a small and gentle hand on his shoulder.

“There isn't any use in doubting the decisions we made Harry.”

Luna is a comforting presence to Harry, no matter what happens to her she is always so gentle and soft-spoken now that Harry thought about it the only time he heard her yell was when she was trying to get his attention to tell him about the grey lady. Harry was lost in his thoughts when he felt his arms wrap around him.

“We’ll be alright Harry, we’ll figure out what to do next.” Luna tightened her arms around him offering him the comfort he felt he didn't deserve.

“Potter, stop making that face.” Draco who undoubtedly feels worse than Harry does looks at

him with sympathy and reluctant companionship.

“What face?”

“The face you get when you’re thinking everything’s your fault and you’re the only one responsible for the fallout.” Draco started poking his chest.

“Well guess what Potter you’re not the only one who has the guilt of surviving or the feeling of being useless or feels like they could’ve done more.” Draco starts gradually getting louder and more hysteric as he continues.

“We lost Potter, both sides lost. There’s no winning or losing all there is in war is sacrifice and doing what you believe is right. You put everyone’s death in your hands and erase everything they did for what they believe in. so don’t go and blame yourself and reject the sacrifice they willingly put themselves in!”

By the end, Draco was breathing heavily and looking at him with anger and sadness so deep in those silver eyes that it looked like his very soul was bursting at the seams with tears and rage. Harry couldn't fault him he probably looked the same. Hell, they all did, with Luna only looking more dazed than usual.

“He’s right Harry.” Ron was standing behind the three with tears still running down his face but looking more like his Ron than he did several minutes ago.

“We have each other and we might’ve lost everything here, but we didn’t somewhere else.” he looked at each of them before continuing. “We’ll grab important things and put them in Luna’s suitcase and go somewhere far from here.”

Harry liked the idea, of going somewhere far and building a new life with his family, his little sister and older brothers. There was one thing that was on his mind as well.

“Where would we go?” Draco asked while holding Luna’s hand. They grew close and while he was still guarded with Ron and me, he held a soft spot for her.

“I know where we could go,” Luna says in her usual soft dazed tone. “We could go through the veil.”

The boys all paused and looked at her with varying levels of fondness and confusion. They were used to her antics, but this seemed a bit over the top for her.

“What do you mean, Luna?” Ron asked gently. “The veil would kill us, we just want to move away.”

“We will, trust me please.”

Those words were followed by a look that had all three boys melting and immediately heading to their respective houses to pack their valuables. Luna had that sort of power over them. After finishing packing up, Draco went to Gringotts to empty all of his and Harry's vaults. When all was said and done Harry, Luna, Ron, and Draco went to the veil and walked through.
