Chapter 1: A New Chapter

Chapter Text

The brittle trees swayed across one another, with the wind hurtling against us, looking for the portal to send me back. Pushing against the winds and time, I felt an odd sensation, goosebumps went up my skin. We kept walking, as I whispered to Michael.
A figure pounced upon Michael and tried to grab his necklace, grabbing a stick, I hit the cloaked person in the side of its stomach, making the dark figure land to the ground with a thud. Getting down I checked his body for any bruises, ”Are you ok?
Signing he replied slowly ”Ya I’m fine,” I don't think he got any hits on me "Michael repeatedly kept checking his neck.

“Ok but we're heading home, the portal should be closed by now anyways”

”You wanna meet up at the abandoned place tomorrow”,

”yeah sure I'm not busy”

I hope Michaels doing fine. I'm way too worried about him even though I met him recently. Although he is trying his best to help me,I still have to be cautious.
It was a long and sleepless night…. Sona could not sleep all night, he would wonder and wonder if he made the right decision to not follow him home.

Laying in his bed, he stared at the blank wall surrounding his house. A small beep was accompanying him, he slowly got up and headed through the hallway. Heading over to the home phone he picked it up. ”Hello?” Michael replied while putting it on speaker,
”It’s Sona now hurry up your taking forever the suns already risen” Sona announces in a dramatic voice, I chuckled slightly over the phone
”Yeah I can head there, Just give me 10 minutes”.

Heading to a plastic looking building, I moved forward along the path with weeds growing everywhere. He started to think when he should go and take care of the place, maybe another time.Opening the door he yelled out loud

”I'm here, I'm not late am I?”

”Nope you're just in time, now what did you wanna talk about?”

Sitting down, Michael put his hands on the table and faced sona.”Remember those shadows that attacked us in the forest?” Sona looked my way, he nodded his head slowly.” I think they were after one of my belongings, you know the necklace I keep on me”.
Sona was bored to say the very least, they really didn't care for the necklace, their only plan was to get home, those people in cloaks were making it a lot harder. The necklace must of been important to them though .”Ok so how about this, you help me get back home and in return I will help you solve this mystery”, when Michael was about to speak I shushed him

” We have to find the portal to my home and figure out a way to open it temporarily, then we can solve your mystery. Is that a deal?”
Michael hesitantly held out his hand. ”Oh Thank you very much”
Getting up I grabbed both of his hands and shook him hard, resulting in him falling down. ”Oh Shit, I am so sorry”, trying to pull him up when Michael put his hand in front of my face.

“It's fine”

”Let's get going, the faster we get this done, the faster we can get you home”.

Walking away sona looked after him, following him out and towards the forest once again, while holding his hands behind his back.

The dim lights coming from the trees barely lit up the path to the forest, with them being thick and shrubby trees. Leaves floating through the air with a gentle breeze, a small figure in the distance was wandering around. “Hello is anyone there”, a whisper in the breeze said faintly. Scared Sona yelped and shouted “Who’s There!”

Micheal just stared at Sona and hit him on the head, mumbling about how Sona was going to die one day. ”Hey what was that for!” Sona pushed him away, while Michael ignored him and looked ahead of them. A small child came towards them in tattered clothes with her pale skin and beady eyes.

Covering my ears, sona screamed and shoved me in front of him; they kept watching in eerie silence. ”Are you looking for something?” With his curiosity peaked, Michael stared at their beady eyes and shook his head.

“Yes we are looking for something, have you seen a bright green to bluish portal surrounded by crystals that dont look like they are from around here”Sona briskly looked at the child, his face softened even more than it already had. “I'm trying to get home, can you help me?”, the small child turned their gast down and shook their head “I can, but you gotta do me a favor, then it's a deal!”
“Deal! What is it you need? "Sona quickly answered, cutting Michael off, while Michael just facepalmed with his mouth still agape. They just stared back at them with a glint in their eyes.

“All you have to do is burn this place to the ground, and that building over there, but besides that easy right!” Their eyes had a glint in them with their math slowly growing to a mischievous grin.

“Sure!”Sona replied eagerly, seeing no problem with it.”SONA! That’s illegal!”Micheal yelled while grabbing Sona’s arm and dragging him away from the child who was starting to look less human.

Trying to plant my feet in the ground, I was yelling at Michael “So What! I just want to get home”

“Michael! I could care less, my only goal is to get away from all the people here.”

In a fit of rage tears were welling up in my eyes, Michael looked away from me with a grimace. “Have you decided yet?” the child asked right behind me, making me fall on the hard dirt scattered with rocks.

Micheal kept watching the child who looked like a spirit and ignored sona’s outburst with tears falling down his face barely noticeable. Walking ahead straight to the spirit he said with more spite than he thought he had “What's' your name, I'm not stupid enough to make a deal with a no name”, a smirk was seen on its face.

“If I have to, my name is Zen, dear human, unlike your companion you're not stupid enough to fall for that, although don't worry, I shall fulfill his request if you agree upon our deal too”.

They held out their hand waiting. Michael looked at it and started moving backwards when sona came out from behind michael and pushed him onto the path, shaking zen’s hands eagerly. Zen headed north with sona falling, while michael got up and awkwardly slightly limping followed them.

“And…. we’re here! Zen announced while putting his hands in the air. Sona thought Zen kept getting cuter and cuter, while Michael was still dragging behind. Slowly behind the thick trees a faint but small blue of lapis appeared with Zen approaching it closer. ”Thank you so much Zen! It looks like the portal I came from”. Running forwards he tries hugging zen, but falls through and land’s with a thud on the more beat up dirt road. Chuckling sona got up and dusted himself off and turned to look at michael.

Walking ahead Michael saw the light growing bigger and went ahead of them and went into the entrance. Looking at the cave with the crystals glowing radioactive, he went towards a small cube in the middle of the room with a hole in the middle. It looked like a key would fit in it, looking around the cave he didn't see anything else. Sounds of murmurs outside alerted him.

“So how are we supposed to open it exactly?”

“Well Idk how about you ask your friend”

“About what? What would micheal know anyway he’s human.”

“Well for one his necklace looks like a key to a puzzle, two why not!

Micheal was standing infront of a box, I headed up towards him. ”Is that a key hole?” sona looked over at micheal questioning him.” I'm not sure” he looked away looking into one of the crystals.

“Well how about your necklace, It probably just needs anytype of key”

“Using my necklace as a key? That could break it”

“It’s fine, if it does you can just fix it”

Sona kept shaking michael as a last resort. ”Fine I’ll do it,but you owe me”, Micheal relecuntally said.”Sureeee like it would break” sona stopped shaking michael and waited in the corner of the room with zen floating around the crystals.

Still breaths, watching the portal, awaiting something. Michael hurriedly took the key out, ”see it's just for design” michael hurriedly grabbed it back, while sweat came down his face. Sonas eyes went downcast while zen smiled apologetically. ”Well that's a shame, now how about our deal” they reminded with a glint in her eyes .”A deal is a deal” sona said, still downcast.

Zen appeared with a gasoline can in hand with matches heading towards them. They gestured towards sona,”Is there any way to travel across worlds?” sona said, still looking hopeful. Looking towards them, their grin becoming wider; almost coming off its face. Micheal slapped sona on their head again ”Information isn’t free” he sternly said to sona who looked like a sad puppy who just lost their toy. Grabbing the gasoline can from sona, he started walking towards the forest once again.
For two hours they spread gasoline all over the building and forest, standing next to a river separating them. Sona lit the match and threw it as far as he could into the forest. Fire alighted in their eyes, Zen squinted in glee with their eyes lighting up, giggling coming from them, almost in case.
