Tired Eyes

Summary:

When 50/60 something "Reader" sold their house, packed up everything they could in their old rickety car, and started driving God knows where to start a new life one fateful summer, they didn't expect anything, so they assumed no surprises. They're proven dead wrong when they crash land in Gravity Falls, Oregon and are met with the Pines and the sudden reality of the supernatural.

Chapter 1: A Road Trip

Notes:

I've technically written before, if you count school projects, but I'm no where near an expert (and much younger than the reader character is supposed to be.) so any constructive criticism or advice is welcome, but please be respectful. Enjoy!

Chapter Text

It didn't take long to realize this drive should have been done at daylight . As beautiful as the sky is, the full moon shining down and making everything much brighter than it could be, it's still hard to see, especially on the main road.

The crickets chirp, toads croak and your old car chugs along the path, making a concerning clicking noise every so often. You probably shouldn't just ignore it, but for whatever reason you do. Though it couldn't hurt to make a pit stop- you're a long way from where you started and you're getting a bit tired, the gentle love song playing on the radio not helping to keep you awake.

As you wonder if any motels are open at this time, half assedly humming along with the radio, the car makes a sudden, jarringly loud, scraping noise, leading you to decide that, yes, you will stop somewhere. In fact, bless the Lord, there's a place right in front of you.

Except, the car just turned on its own; Straight into the woods on the opposite side of the road.

You shout, desperately scrambling at the wheel, but she doesn't seem to want to go that way, intent on sending you straight to your doom. Okay, maybe not your doom, but the point is- is that a cliff?

" Ssshhhhhit !" You borderline scream as the car goes flying and your life flashes before your eyes- you really need to apologize to that girl from middle school, if she's still alive, and if you're still alive after this.

You see a billboard flash by and can just barely make out... "Rave all?" You mumble, having, momentarily, forgotten you were screaming. The memory pops back into your head when your car brushes against a tree in mid-air.

Despite your doubts, you survive, landing perfectly upright after some (horrifying) bouncing. You stumble out of your car, nauseous and dizzy, unable to see a thing. You feel you're about to pass out, but just before you do, you hear what sounds like two concerned young teenagers shouting at you.

Sun seeps in through the blinds as you squint your eyes, and quickly realize you don't recognize a thing about your surroundings. You try to make a conscious decision not to panic, but you don't do a very good job at it, judging by your shaking hands and shallow breathing. Ok, that's fine. You try some breathing exercises, thinking over what's most likely to be happening. You crashed, passed out, someone found you, and took you home... but why wouldn't they take you to a hospital? That seems like it would be the best decision.

Before your thoughts can spiral too far, you hear something up the stairs- then you see something. A pig in a very snazzy outfit bolts down the stairs and across the room with a girl running after it, scratching on the door and snorting as loud as it's little vocal chords allow.

"Waddles! Come on, don't you wanna win the fashion show?!" The girl, about 13 or so in a matching outfit to the pig, complete with a tophat hair clip and bedazzled bow tie, shouts, sounding exasperated.

"Hello?" You decide to draw attention to your presence. "Where am I?"
