In the doorway

Chapter Text

Dynamight walked with purpose through the winding streets, the fading sunlight casting a warm, golden hue over the city. His boots struck the pavement with a steady rhythm, echoing softly in the quiet, late afternoon air. He could feel the warmth on his skin, a slight breeze ruffling his hair as he turned a familiar corner. The imposing gates of U.A. High loomed ahead, standing tall against the backdrop of a clear sky.

The campus was quieter now, the usual bustle of students replaced with the distant hum of conversations and the occasional clatter of footsteps echoing through the nearly empty halls. As he approached the main building, Dynamight could feel the memories tugging at the edges of his mind—memories of his time here, of the struggles, the triumphs, and the friendships that had shaped him into the hero he was today. But he wasn’t here for nostalgia. He was here for something, or rather, someone, much more important.

He moved through the halls with the ease of someone who had spent years navigating them. The familiar scent of the school—clean, with a faint hint of wood polish and something distinctly youthful—filled his senses, grounding him in the present. The walls, lined with photos and awards, seemed to whisper stories of the past, but Dynamight kept his focus ahead. He was on a mission, after all.

As he approached the classroom where Deku was teaching, Dynamight’s pace slowed. He could hear the murmur of voices through the slightly ajar door, Deku’s voice distinct even amid the quiet hum. There was something about that voice that always managed to pull him in, to calm the storm that often raged inside him.

He paused just outside the door, peering through the small window. Inside, the classroom was bathed in the soft, golden light of the setting sun, which filtered through the large windows, casting long shadows across the floor. The students were seated in neat rows, their attention completely absorbed by the lesson Deku was delivering.

Deku stood at the front of the room, gesturing animatedly as he spoke, his face alight with that familiar spark of enthusiasm. His green curls caught the sunlight, creating a halo effect that made him look almost ethereal. His movements were fluid, every gesture purposeful as he explained the intricacies of Quirk strategy, his passion for teaching evident in every word.

The students were hanging on his every word, some leaning forward in their seats, their eyes wide with interest, while others scribbled notes furiously, trying to capture every detail. There was an air of quiet concentration in the room, the kind that only came when students were truly engaged, truly inspired by the material.

Dynamight felt a rare, soft smile tugging at the corners of his mouth as he watched Deku in his element. It was moments like this that reminded him why he had fallen for him in the first place—why, despite their rocky start, he had grown to love the man who now stood before him.

He leaned casually against the doorframe, taking in the scene for a few moments longer, before deciding it was time to make his presence known. Without making a sound, he pushed the door open a little more and stepped inside, his movements as silent as a shadow.

Deku was in the middle of explaining a complex rescue scenario, his voice rising and falling with the rhythm of the lesson. He moved to the whiteboard, drawing out diagrams with quick, precise strokes, pausing every now and then to glance back at the students, making sure they were following along.

Dynamight took a few steps into the room, his boots making the faintest of sounds against the polished floor. But it was enough to catch Deku’s attention.

As Deku finished his diagram and turned back to face the class, his gaze landed on Dynamight. For a split second, his eyes widened in surprise, his mouth opening slightly as if to speak, but no words came out. He blinked, clearly trying to process the unexpected sight of his boyfriend standing in the doorway, looking as though he belonged there just as much as any of the students.

The class noticed the shift in Deku’s expression and followed his gaze to the door. The room fell silent, every head turning to look at the man standing there. The recognition was instant.

“Pro Hero Dynamight?” one of the students whispered, the words quickly spreading through the room like wildfire.

Deku, still slightly stunned, moved toward the door, a soft blush creeping up his neck as he realized the full extent of the situation. “Kacchan?” he said, his voice soft and filled with a mixture of surprise and affection.

Dynamight smirked, crossing his arms over his chest as he leaned against the doorframe. “Finished patrol early,” he said, his tone casual, though the look in his eyes was anything but. “Thought I’d drop by and see what you were up to.”

Deku’s blush deepened as he glanced back at his students, who were now buzzing with excitement, their eyes darting between their teacher and the famous hero standing in their classroom.

“Kacchan,” Deku repeated, his voice a little more steady this time, though the blush remained. “You didn’t tell me you were coming.”

“I wanted it to be a surprise,” Dynamight replied, pushing off the doorframe and taking a few steps closer to Deku. The smirk on his face softened into something more genuine as he took in the sight of Deku, standing there with his cheeks flushed and his eyes wide. “Figured you could use a break.”

The students were beside themselves with excitement now, their whispers growing louder as they pieced together the situation. It was clear that they were witnessing something special, something that wasn’t part of the usual school day.

One of the students, a girl with bright blue hair and a mischievous grin, raised her hand. “Mr. Midoriya, are you and Pro Hero Dynamight… ?” she asked, her voice filled with barely-contained curiosity.

Deku’s blush deepened, his green eyes darting nervously toward Dynamight, who simply raised an eyebrow as if to say, “Your call.”

Taking a deep breath, Deku nodded. “Yes,” he said, his voice calm despite the rapid beating of his heart. “Kacchan and I are together.”

The classroom erupted in a chorus of cheers, laughter, and excited murmurs. The students, clearly thrilled by the revelation, exchanged knowing looks and conspiratorial smiles, as if they had just uncovered the world’s best-kept secret.

Dynamight watched the scene unfold with a rare, soft smile on his face. He wasn’t one for public displays of affection, but seeing Deku so happy, surrounded by students who clearly adored him, made it all worth it.

Deku turned back to him, his eyes shining with happiness despite his lingering embarrassment. “Kacchan, you’re going to get me in trouble,” he said, though there was no real annoyance in his voice.

“Nah,” Dynamight replied, stepping closer until he was standing right in front of Deku. “They love you too much to get you in trouble.”

The students, sensing the shift in the atmosphere, quieted down, eager to see what would happen next. Deku, still blushing, glanced around the room before looking back at Dynamight. “So, since you’re here… Want to help me with the rest of the lesson?”

Dynamight’s smirk returned, and he nodded. “Why not? Let’s see if these brats can keep up with a real pro.”

The students cheered again, clearly thrilled at the prospect of having both Deku and Dynamight teaching them. As Deku moved back to the front of the room, Dynamight followed, his presence commanding the attention of every student in the room.

For the next hour, the classroom was filled with the sounds of excited chatter, explosions (carefully controlled, of course), and laughter as Dynamight and Deku worked together to teach the students. Dynamight demonstrated advanced combat techniques, his movements sharp and precise, while Deku explained the importance of strategy and teamwork, his voice filled with passion as he guided the students through each scenario.

The students were completely engaged, their eyes wide with awe as they watched two of the country’s top heroes work together so seamlessly. It was clear to everyone just how well Deku and Dynamight complemented each other, both in their teaching styles and in their relationship.

When the lesson finally came to an end, the students were buzzing with excitement, already talking about what they had learned and how they couldn’t wait to apply it in their training. Deku dismissed the class with a smile, watching as they filed out of the room, still chattering about the day’s events.

As the last student left, Dynamight turned to Deku, his expression softening. “You’re good at this, Deku,” he said, his voice low but filled with pride.

Deku blushed slightly at the compliment, but his smile was genuine. “Thanks, Kacchan. But I think they were more excited to see you.”

Dynamight chuckled, shaking his head. “Nah, they’re excited because you’re a damn good teacher. They’re lucky to have you.”

Deku’s heart swelled at the words, and without thinking, he stepped forward and wrapped his arms around Dynamight in a tight hug. “And I’m lucky to have you,” he murmured into Dynamight’s chest.

Dynamight’s arms came up to encircle Deku, pulling him close. “Yeah, well… I’m not too bad either,” he teased, though his voice was soft, affectionate.

They stood like that for a moment, just holding each other in the warm glow of the afternoon light, the world outside fading away as they shared this quiet, perfect moment together.

Finally, Deku pulled back slightly, looking up at Dynamight with a smile that could light up a room. “Thank you for the surprise, Kacchan. It was perfect.”

Dynamight leaned down, pressing a soft kiss to Deku’s forehead. “Anytime, Deku. Anytime.”
