Hi everyone,

I haven't had time to write lately but I thought I'd at least post this art. I know I've shown John in ancient Rome before, but somehow I felt like doing it again. I portrayed him as a gladiator before, this time he's a soldier instead. I like this piece. At the last minute I felt like the portrait was too static, so I added a bit of blur to suggest that the crest on his helmet was blowing in a breeze, and some red in the shadows. Just painterly little bits. I like the portrait better now. Oh, and the SPQR you can just make out in the background, I wanted to get that in since it was the motto the Legions carried on their banners when they went to war. It stands for Senatus Populusque Romanus, meaning the Senate and the People of Rome.
