Chapter Text
After a whole day of dealing with annoying people and doing so much work, Chuuya came into his apartment, frustrated, and also accompanied by a massive headache. He did what he always does whenever he's frustrated. He changed his clothes, laid down on his bed, and his thoughts started drifting off.
Mori and some workers were annoying as usual. He had to do extra work today, and he couldn't get any sleep last night either. Goodness, it was just great. As he closes his eyes, trying his hardest to relax, his thoughts kept swirling in his head, and it all led to a certain someone.
He has thought this many times before during the past 4 years, how he felt when Dazai left him, how he felt an absence of something, like something was missing. He remembered how Dazai usually came to Chuuya's apartment unannounced at certain bad nights, walking all the way from his shipping container.
The way Dazai held him in his arms, the feeling of comfort and safety from the warmth of the brunet's closeness, it never failed to make Chuuya's heart flutter. Yet, he never got to experience it again after 18. Chuuya found himself longing for that very closeness, feeling a bit suffocated due to the lack of it. He should probably call Dazai... Wait- No! Why should he? That mackerel decided to leave. Chuuya shouldn't act like a lost and kicked puppy! He isn't some damn weakling... Right..?
Chuuya grabbed a pillow and held it close, curling up a bit as he tried to ease the suffocating feeling inside of himself. He couldn't take it. He has been holding all of these feelings in for years, and he just wanted to let it out somehow. When Dazai left unannounced, Chuuya had wanted to drop everything, get on his knees and beg for Dazai to take Chuuya with him. But ofcourse, due to his pride and anger, he didn't. He chose to keep it hidden and forever suffer.
In the ADA headquarters, Dazai was annoying Kunikida, as usual. Dazai refused to do his work while Kunikida lectured him.
"For God's sake! Don't act like a child and actually do some work for once!" Kunikida spoke in a stern and frustrated tone as Dazai sticks his tongue out like a child.
"Why does Ranpo-san get no work but I do!? We both are so smart and are geniuses! This is unfair, Kunikida-kun!" Dazai exclaims dramatically as he leans back on his chair, spinning in it. Kunikida just gives up and goes back to work, not wanting to deal with Dazai right now. He had dealt with him all morning.
After most of the ADA members went home, Ranpo and Dazai stayed behind just a minute longer. Dazai got up from his seat and stretched. Just as he was gonna walk out from the room, a ringing sound interrupted him and his steps come to a halt. He takes out his phone and looks at it, only to see the name "Chibi <3" on it, calling him. He wouldn't admit it, but he was surprised to find Chuuya calling him at this time.
Dazai puts the phone back in his pocket and smiles at Ranpo before going out of the office and closing the door. Ranpo stayed on his chair, leaning back with his arms crossed and his legs on his desk. His emerald eyes lingered on the door with a look, as if he knew.
Dazai walked out of the ADA building and walks towards his apartment before he picks up the call and spoke up, his voice smug and teasing as usual, "Didn't expect you to miss me, short stack." However, his expression immediately dropped as he heard the uncharacteristically quiet, wavering voice of the shorter man behind the line.
"Come over.. damnit.." Chuuya replies in an uncharacteristically quiet tone from behind the phone. Without a second thought, Dazai hums in acknowledgement and hangs up, turning around and changing his path to Chuuya's apartment. He walks in silence with a blank expression, but behind that it was filled with worry and concern. During their 7 years of friendship, Dazai has never heard Chuuya sound this vulnerable. Ofcourse, he was gonna worry.
As the doorbell ringed to Chuuya's apartment, there wasn't any reply. So, Dazai just decided to enter. He closes the door behind himself and takes off his shoes and coat. He walks towards Chuuya's bedroom, which was unlocked, thankfully. He opens it and calls out, "Chuuya?" And then he froze as his eyes landed on the sight infront of him.
Chuuya was curled up, holding a pillow close and keeping his face buried into it to prevent being seen... and letting out quiet whimpers.
Dazai stays still for some moments before he walks over and sat infront of Chuuya. Without hesitation, he immediately pulls Chuuya closer to lean against him, wrapping his arms around the smaller man. He spoke up quietly, his voice uncharacteristically a bit concerned and soft, "Chibi..? What happened..?"
Chuuya leans into him, throwing the pillow aside and clutching onto Dazai's shirt as he buries his face into Dazai's shoulder instead. His body was trembling, and his breathing was laboured. His whimpers grew a bit more pronounced and soon turned into soft cries.
Dazai tightens his grip, his heart aching seeing Chuuya like this. He held him close, trying to provide comfort in any way possible. He quietly whispered softly reassurances to the smaller man, gently rocking him back and forth.
The familiar feeling of comfort and safety from the warmth of Dazai's embrace washes over Chuuya as he leans onto him heavily, never wanting to let go, at all. He longed for this so much, too much. He stays silent, his cries finally dying down after a short period of time.
Dazai decides not to ask what happened just now, considering how vulnerable Chuuya was currently. He stays silent as he held him close, continuing to rock him back and forth. He leans his head on top of Chuuya's, mumbling some reassurances to him to get the other to calm down fully.
The room was filled in comfortable silence, before Chuuya broke it quietly. "Dazai..?" Dazai glances down at Chuuya as he hums in acknowledgement. Chuuya stays silent before he spoke up quietly, "Can you stay the night..? ...please..?" Dazai felt a flutter in his heart as he listens to Chuuya's small voice. He couldn't help but smile a little as he replies, his voice teasing but affectionate, "Miss me that much, huh..? Sure.."
