Chapter Text
It was winter season, one of the most intense that Ford had ever experienced. Everything was so quiet: the birds, the trees and even the abnormal creatures were silenced these days.
Ford couldn't figure out what time was looking through the window, everything was taken by the immersive white of snow. Besides, he didn't realize how much time he has been working. Since Fiddleford left to see his family, he was left with all the research, it made him feel more lonely in his home. His Muse was also gone but that was different, Bill always leaves for weeks and only appears to help Ford with a specific part. But Fiddleford was there all the time, revising formulas, discussing theories and making large cups of coffe for them.
He caught himself glancing at the gloves he made for him, Fiddleford had dedicated his time to make a gift that Ford didn't even noticed he was needing, and what did he gift him? Yes, nothing, how thoughtful he was.
Ford realized it was time to stop, his thoughts were overwhelming his mind, making it difficult to focus on his work. He made a huge cup of coffe for the third time that day and started to write in his journal. Most of the time, he only writes when he makes a new discovery, but the writing had become more common as he documented his dailylife.
When he was thinking if he should keep the page, he heard a noise.
It could be the sound of the wind or Fiddleford coming back, he thought hopefully. However, the sound was an high-pitched voice followed by an explosion.
"NOOOO IT'S BROKEN!!" Shouted an strident voice sounding like a girl.
"LOOK OF WHAT YOU'VE DONE!" Accused a different voice, similiar to the first, but this one sounded like a teenager boy going through puberty.
"WHAT? It's not my fault, YOU had the idea to use this thing in the first place."
He was already familiar with Gravity Falls to not to approach desperately to see what was happening. He put on warm clothes and got his crossbow for precaution.
When he opened the door he saw two kids too busy arguing that they didn't even notice his presence. They were almost identical, with the same brown hair and the same face, they could be twins. For a moment, he planned to say something but he was alarmed that they could possibly be dangerous creatures disguised as innocent kids, especially because they were not wearing winter clothes. The girl was at least using a sweater but the boy was missing a shoe. How did they end up here? And how were the still arguing? And for what?
"Who are you and what are you doing here?" Ford decided to intervene before the kids killed each other. Surprised, they stopped arguing and turned quickly to him. He tried to hide his crossbow to avoid alarming them but they were already shocked with him, but not by fear. They were analyzing him up and down with a familiar look. It made him uncomfortable, especially with the boy focusing too much on his fingers.
"I'm Mab-" the boy put his hand over the girl's mouth, preventing her from anwering, which made Ford even more alarmed. "We do the questions here..." His voice was failing again because of the cold. Ford was still thinking why they were wearing summer clothes in the middle of winter.
"Who are you?" Questioned the boy, even trembling with every word he did not let his guard down.
Stanford had to make a decision. He couldn't take strangers inside his house, but it was torture to continue this interrogation outside with both of them freezing to death. God, why was he assuming they could be a threat? If they were dangerous, he would have already suffered an attack, and besides, they were shivering, almost passing out. Perhaps a warmer enviroment would help them answer him.
"Ok, I would continue but it's too cold out here. Normally , I don't let strangers enter my house but I will make an exception. Let's get inside before you both get hypothermia." The kids were apprehensive at first, but seeing their current situation, they didn't have any other option.
