Work Text:

Deep breath in. Deep breath out. She was ready for this. She could do this. All she had to do, was get her acceptance letter. Her portfolio was great. And her test scores were even better too. She worked so hard for this, she could do it, right? But what if she couldn’t. What if someone was better than her? Had better scores, better resume- no! She hit herself on the head for thinking like that. She was ready, overprepared even. This was her time. This was her day, and her special moment.

She was watching the window like a hawk, observing it like the slightest movement would cause the end of the world. When the mail truck drove past her house, her eyes widened with excitement. Then, the truck drove past. Her heart sank, the dread worse than any other feeling any other person had ever experienced. Then, the truck turned back around since she lived at the end of her street, and put a letter in her mailbox. She counted down the seconds until it had been long enough for it to be socially acceptable for her to go outside. Then she ran out the door, in cat slippers. Her long pink and green hair flowed behind her like a strawberry river. She didn't braid her hair today. She didn't even glance at the mail as she ran back into her home. She sat down on her couch, as nervous as ever, and looked at the envelopes in her hand.

Then… sighed. First letter, some scam company. A “Here's a bunch of useless coupons, buy things at our store!” kinda a scam. So, she tossed it away. Taking a quick peek at the final letter sitting in her lap, one from one of the many art universities she applied to. This, is the school she really wanted to get into. It had the major she wanted most, 3-D Animation. It had been her dream since she discovered it was an option. She carefully, but also very quickly opened the letter. She took it out of the envelope, dreading but also being super excited by what could be on the letter. She skipped to the bottom, and the words she had been waiting for… for so long were there. “You have been accepted, welcome to the Raspberry Art University Family.”

She got up and audibly screamed, instantly calling her parents about the news. One of her family's cats, who was peacefully napping on the couch, jumped up and ran away. The phone rang once, before her mom picked up. Her excited voice rang through the house, much to her cat's dismay.

“Mom, mom!! Guess what??” She said in a very sing-songy tone. Before even letting her mom continue, she started speaking again. “I got accepted into Raspberry Art University!”

“Oh my sweet girl, I'm so proud of you.” Her mother’s comforting voice spoke through the phone. It always made her feel so much calmer.

“I'm so excited, the first day is on August 5th! I-I need to pack and get ready for the dorms, since I did get on-campus housing.” It was hard to understand what Mitsuri was saying because of all the squealing and jumping around she did. “Okay, I'm gonna go pack. I'll see you when you get home! I love you so much! Bye mom!”

A beep on the phone as Mitsuri hung up the phone and ran around her house, super excited. She ran to her room to pack. Grabbing a few suitcases and grabbing clothes from her closet. Her most favorite items, and a couple decorations. A little fake plant, a painting her little siblings made her, and a couple other things. She spent a while packing, obviously while dancing and listening to her favorite songs. She packed rather slowly because of it, spending a few hours packing. When her parents got home from their jobs and her siblings came home from school, they all celebrated. It was such a happy day for the Kanroji family. Her parents and a few of siblings started to cook a magnificent feast, one that would be worth it, Mitsuri did get into her dream university. Her parents were always so supportive of her, accepting her dreams no matter what.

When the food was ready, it smelled so good. It was akin to that of a christmas dinner, with a chicken in the center of the table, filled with an abundance of sides. Mashed potatoes, corn, green beans, baked potatoes, everything. There was also a plate filled to the brim with Sakura Mochis, just for her. Mitsuri was absolutely overjoyed with everything. She let her family get their food before she started to take servings. Taking a fairly large chicken, a baked potato, a whole lot of pumpkin seeds, some fish, and some corn. She split it over two plates and started to consume it like her last meal. In a way, it would be her last meal. Not forever, she wasn't dying. She was, however, going to college and this would be her last big meal with her family for a while. So she was gonna make it the best one ever.

She spent the entire meal telling jokes with her family, telling stories and predictions for her college experience. It was a very light mood, everyone was excited for her. This was her dream, so obviously her family would support her. Her family were the most accepting, supportive people anyone had ever met. She would be sad to leave them, but she didn't focus on that at the moment. She was enjoying this time with her family. Once all the food was eaten, Mitsuri helped wash and put away all the dishes. Much to her mom’s disapproval, who wanted her to relax before starting college.

Her bubbly art got her accepted into the college, and her bubbly personality was gonna keep her there. This was her time to shine and prove herself as a great artist.
