Work Text:

The moon hung low over the sprawling city, casting shadows that danced across the rooftops. Nightcrawler perched on the edge of a tall building, his tail flicking anxiously. “Logan are you sure about this?” he asked, glancing down at the street below.

Wolverine leaned against the brick wall beside him, his expression a mix of determination and impatience. “We don’t have time for doubts, Bub. We need to find out what the syndicate is planning, and we need to do it tonight.”

Kurt sighed, his blue skin shimmering under the moonlight. “I know, but it feels… dangerous. More than just the mission.”

Logan’s gaze softened for a moment. “Just stick close to me, elf. We’ll get through this. We always do.”

Kurt’s heart raced at the nickname, a mix of affection and anxiety swirling within him. They had been friends for years, partners in countless battles, but tonight felt different. The tension between them crackled like electricity in the air.

As they prepared to descend, Logan smirked. “Try to keep up, fuzzy.” With that, he leaped down, landing gracefully on the sidewalk below.

Kurt followed, teleporting to his partner’s side in a blink. “Always show-off,” he teased, though the playful banter didn’t quite mask the flutter in his stomach.
They blended into the crowd, disguises making them look like regular patrons of the bar. Kurt wore a fitted suit that complemented his agile form, while Logan opted for a leather jacket that gave him an air of danger. As they walked through the dimly lit club, Kurt felt a thrill—part of it was the mission, but much of it was being close to Logan.

“Remember the plan?” Logan whispered, his breath warm against Kurt’s ear, sending a shiver down his spine.

“Of course,” Kurt replied, trying to sound confident. “You distract the guards while I slip into the backroom.”

Logan’s gaze locked onto his. “Just.. be careful, okay?.”

Kurt nodded, the weight of those words settling heavily on his heart. As Logan moved toward the bar, he could feel the tension in the air. Kurt took a deep breath and slipped into the back, his heart racing.

Inside, the room was filled with hushed voices and low fluorescent lights. Kurt crept through, searching for anything that could give them the intel they needed. He paused when he heard voices behind a door, straining to catch snippets of conversation.
“...We’re ready to move forward with the plan. The mutants won’t know what hit them,” one voice said.

Kurt felt a surge of anger. He needed to warn Logan. As he turned to leave, the door swung open, and he stumbled back, caught off guard.

“Look who we have here,” one of the guards sneered. Kurt’s instincts kicked in, but before he could teleport, the door burst open behind him.

Logan growled, lunging at the guards. A flurry of claws and shadows, Kurt fighting alongside Logan, their movements fluid and instinctual.

As they took down the last guard, panting and disheveled, Kurt glanced at Logan, his heart racing. Logan wiped blood off his claws, his expression a mix of adrenaline and something deeper. “That was… exhilarating,” Kurt said, trying to catch his breath.

“Yeah, but it’s not over yet.” Logan’s tone shifted, a weight settling over them. “You okay?”
“Better than okay.” Kurt hesitated, his heart pounding in his chest. He opened his mouth, desperate to let out the thoughts swirling inside him, but they tangled in his throat. He wanted to tell Logan everything—the way his presence made the world feel less daunting, how his laughter lingered in his mind long after they parted. But the moment felt too fragile, the noise of the alarms echoing in the background amplifying his anxiety.

“We need to move!” Logan shouted, grabbing Kurt’s hand and pulling him into the shadows. The urgency of their situation pushed away the vulnerability they had just begun to explore.

As they navigated their way back to the exit, Kurt felt a mix of frustration and longing. They were so close to addressing the truth, yet the chaos of the mission had ripped them from that moment. Once outside, they found a dimly lit alleyway to catch their breath. The city buzzed around them, the adrenaline of the night still coursing through their veins.

Kurt’s heart raced. He wanted to say so much more, to tell Logan everything all at once. The air between them felt thick with unspoken emotions. He could sense the tension, a delicate balance of fear and desire. “Logan, I—”

“Don’t,” Logan interrupted, stepping back slightly. “You don’t have to say anything if you don’t want to.”

Kurt’s heart sank. “It’s not that I don’t want to,” he said, frustration creeping into his voice. “I just… I’ve cared about you for a long time. More than a friend should.”

Silence hung in the air, heavy and fraught. Logan’s expression shifted, uncertainty clouding his features. “Kurt, I… I care about you too. But this—” He gestured between them, his voice thick with emotion. “It complicates everything.”

Kurt felt a pang of disappointment, the walls he had carefully built around his feelings beginning to crumble. “You think I don’t know that?” he snapped, anger lacing his words. “Every time we’re together, I feel it. The tension. The way I want to be closer, but I’m just scared of ruining what we have.”

Logan’s eyes softened, the rough exterior cracking just a little. “I don’t want to mess things up either. I’ve lost people before, Kurt. It’s easier to keep things as they are.”

“Easier?” Kurt scoffed, his heart aching. “Is this what you really want? To pretend this doesn't exist? To ignore what’s right in front of us?”

Logan’s jaw clenched, frustration mingling with anguish. “You don’t get it. I can’t lose you, not like that. If we go down this road, I don’t know what it will do to us.”

Kurt’s heart ached at the vulnerability in Logan’s voice. “But what if we miss our chance? What if we could have something real?”

Logan stared at their joined hands, his expression torn. “You make it sound so easy, but it’s not. I don’t want to put you in danger because of my feelings.”

Kurt’s breath caught in his throat. “You’re not putting me in danger. We’re already in this together. We’re a team. But if we don’t at least try, what are we doing?”

Silence enveloped them again, thick with tension and unspoken fears. Logan finally looked up, the weight of his indecision heavy in the air. “I care about you, Kurt. More than I probably should. I just... I don’t want to hurt you.”

The honesty in Logan’s words sent a jolt through Kurt. “Well... we can figure this out together, like we always do. Whatever ‘this’ is.”

For a moment, Logan’s walls cracked further. He stepped closer, his voice barely above a whisper. “What if we try and it all goes wrong?”

“Then we deal with it. Together.” Kurt felt a surge of determination, a conviction he hadn’t known he possessed. “But we owe it to ourselves to find out.”

Logan took a deep breath, his eyes searching Kurt’s. There was a flicker of hope, buried beneath layers of fear and hesitation. “Alright. Together,” he finally said, a hint of a smile breaking through.

As they stood in the alley, the world around them faded, leaving only the two of them, entwined in a moment of fragile possibility. Kurt’s heart swelled with hope, knowing that no matter the outcome, they would face it together.
