Lensing: Objects of Power and Altered Items

Summary:

The Federal Bureau of Control's files on recently acquired Objects of Power and Altered Items from a small town in Oregon.

Notes:

No planned number of chapters, will add more files as I write them.

Chapter 1: Hand Bell (OOP99-PE)

Chapter Text

Hand Bell (OOP99-PE)

CONTAINMENT PROCEDURE:
No unique procedures required.

DESCRIPTION/PARAUTILITY
A small brass bell with a red mahogany handle.

The object is capable of creating intense Pavlovian responses in the user's target when rung. It is a unique case when it comes to Objects of Power in that it binds to the target rather than the user. When rung around anyone but the intended it sounds and appears to be a normal handbell.

███████ █████████

BACKGROUND

The object was one of several discovered in the town of ███████ █████, Oregon. It was found in the possession of local businessman ███████ █████████, and was promptly removed from his possession by Bureau field agent █████ Breaker.

Field agents entrenched within the town were able to gain positive confirmation that the object was bound by ███████ █████████ to his daughter. When the Bureau had recovered it, he was using it as a disciplinary measure. There was an altercation that lead to █████ Breaker discharging her weapon. No casualties.

█████████ is currently being investigated for violations of the Ash Act, while his daughter is being recommended FBC approved parapsychologists, to gauge the lasting effects the OOP may have had on her.

Dr. Darling has requested additional time and funding to be allocated to the study of the object. He believes it could fundamentally change the Bureau's understanding of OOPs and their relationship to the Parautilitarians they are bound to. (See ADDENDUM 3A for follow-up)

Chapter 2: Electron Carpet (AI178-PE)

Chapter Text

Electron Carpet (AI178-PE)

CONTAINMENT PROCEDURES
Altered Item should only ever be interacted with by a single member of Bureau staff at any given time. After handling the object, staff members should discharge static build-up immediately on an inanimate surface.

DESCRIPTION/PARAUTILITY

An 8 foot by 8 foot turquoise shag area rug. There is a gold border and central design depicting two arrows forming a circle around the center.

The Altered Item is capable of swapping the consciousness of two living entities after a discharge of static charge build up on the item is arced between them. Based on initial tests, there does not seem to be a natural time limit to the swap, however another discharge between the affected individuals will return them to their normal states of being.

BACKGROUND

Another Altered Item recovered from ███████ █████, Oregon, following the AWE that occurred in August 2012. Field agents were able to retrieve it from the home of person of interest, ████████ Pines. The opportunity to recover it non-violently presented itself while Bureau agents were setting up observational equipment to monitor the valley and more specifically, local tourist trap, ███ ███████ █████. ████████ and his brother left ███ ███████ █████ in the care of █████ ██████████ ███████ while they traveled, and agents were able to enter the premises after Ramierez had locked up and left for the night.

The Bureau became aware of the item and its nature after a review of relevant Dead Letters that could be connected to ███████ █████. There had been some kind of incident involving several individuals connected to the ███ ███████ █████, and one goat back in 2012. (See ADDENDUM DL-2)

Our team was unable to ascertain the exact origins of the Item however. Based on the tag attached to the rug, its clear that ████████ Pines or his former research assistant ██████████ ██ ████████ had some hand in creating it, but by what means is still unclear.

Chapter 3: Bolo-tie Pendant (OOP107-KE)

Chapter Text

Bolo-tie Pendant (OOP107-KE)

CONTAINMENT PROCEDURES

No unique procedure required.

DESCRIPTION/PARAUTILITY

A cracked teal gemstone inlaid in a copper pendant attached to a black leather bolo tie. The gemstone is currently being held together by standard office tape. While currently inert, the gemstone was capable of granting the parautilitarian it was bound to telekinetic abilities. Reports suggest it could be used on multiple objects within a range of 10 yards, including other people. The extent of its powers can not currently be tested, and initial reports are based on witness testimony and surveillance. Currently the pendant is exhibiting none of its altered attributes which has called into question whether or not it can still or ever should have been classified as a Object of Power.

Until more conclusive proof that the pendant’s resonance has been fully neutralized, it should still be considered bound to ██████ ███████.

BACKGROUND

The Pendant was only recently acquired by the Bureau from ███████ █████, Oregon, after convincing an Altered Entity to part with it. The creature identified itself only as ██████████, and was difficult to communicate with, seemingly only able to use its own name for conversing. Once agents were able to establish some form of common understanding, bartering was able to take place. Further investigation into the forests surrounding the town and its higher than average populations of Altered Entities should be conducted. (See Proposal 23A)

It is uncommon for an Altered Item to be neutralized, much less as simply as the Pendant was. During questioning, ██████ ███████ revealed to Bureau personnel that it had lost its abilities after being shattered on the ground by person of interest █████ Pines. Dr. Darling’s current theory is that the pendant may have acted as a locus for stray Resonance, creating small-scale localized Altered World Events, rather than exerting the force itself. However in its current state, no tests have yielded any meaningful results, even when Mr. ███████was cooperating with researchers. As of right now, its nature is anomalous, even when compared to other Objects of Power.

The Pines family once again has been linked to another Altered Item. Investigations will be opening a case on them. Contact may be necessary. (See Proposal 23B)

Chapter 4: Larry King’s Head (PE33-KE) (A-33)

Chapter Text

Larry King’s Head (PE33-KE) (A-33)

CONTAINMENT PROCEDURE:

No unique procedures required.

(ADDENDUM LK-33/A) Paranatural Entity A-33 is to be allowed access to the Panopticon breakroom twice a day for recreation and conversation.

DESCRIPTION/PARAUTILITY

The head of a Wax sculpture, depicting tv personality and talk show host Larry King. The head is capable of speech, independent thought and limited self-ambulation via that stump of its neck.

ADDENDUM LK-33/AB: This Altered Item is being reclassified as a Paranatural Entity, designation A-33. The Research department has deemed the wax head of Larry King fully sapient and cognizant. As part of the ongoing research into the nature of A-33, it/He is to be taken out of confinement twice a day to socialize with staff. This will serve as both a valuable time to collect Data and important enrichment time for the entity.

ADDENDUM: LOCKDOWN PROCEDURE: Larry is to be secured in the Executive Level in one of the currently abandoned offices. Dr. Darling saw to fitting Mr. Kings's enclosure with an H█████ R████████ A████████. It is unclear if he is susceptible to the Hiss Resonance but I'd prefer to not find out.

  • Acting Head of Research, Emily Pope

DIRECTOR’S NOTE:

Was anyone going to tell me we were keeping a talking head in Executive? Scared the shit out of me, when I was trying to find some coffee. I wasn’t expecting to be interviewed at 6 in the morning!

  • Jesse

BACKGROUND

The object was discovered in the aftermath of the AWE in ███████ █████, Oregon in 2012. It was discovered under some rubble on the outskirts of town. According to its own t estimony, it had been living in the HVAC system of the Mystery Shack (See relevant documents related to AWE GF12), until it fell out of the structure after “they made the house into a robot.”

The wax figure head seems to have intimate knowledge of the real Lawrence Harvey Zeiger’s (Larry King) life, and was able to recall extremely esoteric details of the Talk Show host’s career, family and childhood. However the altered item seems to also fully recognize that it is a separate entity from Larry King, and is well aware it is a wax facsimile.

Field agents responsible for the retrieval and delivery of the wax head to the Oldest House, broke protocol and engaged in conversation with the head on the flight back. They described it as “Charming, and old fashioned, but well meaning.”
