The legend of the wizard and the fairy

Summary:

The story follows a lonely wizard who one day while he was walking through the forest accidentally exchanged glances with “the most beautiful fairy he had ever seen in his life”
or at least that's what he thought.

Notes:

This story is based on a song in Spanish called “La Leyenda Del Hada Y El Mago” - Rata Blanca. I recommend reading the lyrics after reading the fic to understand this story a little bit more, it will be really nice!! ( Dont worry you don't have to read it if you don't want to;3)

Oh and English is not my first language, so i'm sorry if i make some mistakes T-T

Work Text:

While Rui walked through the forest, he calmly looked around; he was the only magician in that forest; therefore, he was feared by the other creatures. There were some rumors scattered around, such as those that he was a weirdo or others like he was completely crazy.

The boy didn't really care, but he felt very alone. His only friend was the moon, called Nene. She gave him strength to bear all the pain he felt because of his long loneliness; she was the only one who could hear him, but she was so high up there in the sky, so they had to settle with night visits and some words.

When he came across a lake, he took a seat under a tree and contemplated the view. The afternoon had already arrived, and the colors of the sky were toning the entire forest with a beautiful pink and yellow. Rui was sad; despite his great ability to control his magic, he had no one to really accompany him on his journey—someone who truly loves him and wants him as he is. Suddenly tears were felt in his eyes. "I'm an idiot," he thought. How can I cry over something stupid like this?

"Rui?" he heard a familiar voice call his name. It was Nene; he hadn't realized that night had already come. "Rui, what's wrong?" The green-haired girl was very worried. "Nene, what a surprise you gave me; please don't worry, it's nothing." Of course the girl was not satisfied. "You looked very sad there; now I'm intrigued," she insisted. Rui changed his face, and with the sleeves of his shirt, he rubbed his  his eyes. “Sometimes being a feared wizard brings you a lot of loneliness, but at least I still have this opportunity to talk to ou." Nene understood everything; she felt like him too. Rui was someone so comforting to talk with; he knew exactly the words to say. The first time they met was for something similar, but in this case Nene was the one crying; she had a best friend who she could only see a few times a day when the evening came, and the two of them could look at each other while Nene went up and Emu, the girl of the sun, went down to make way for the night, or vice versa. To make her feel better that day, the boy had quickly prepared a small fireworks show for her with his magic so that Nene could see them. The colors green, pink, yellow, and violet covered the sky on that starry full moon night.

“Rui,” the girl said again. He looked at her in silence. “If someone has to love you, you will know it,” she was smiling. “You just have to know how to recognize e it." The boy was confused after those words. “I don't think I get what you mean,” he laughed a little. “I know you will understand.” Now they were both laughing.

There was one afternoon when the wizard was walking through a part of the forest that he had never explored, looking for some ingredients for a potion; to be exact, he was looking for a flower similar to a white lily. He felt the stares of small, terrified forest creatures hiding behind trees or inside fallen logs. He had never seen so many creatures together in the forest; it seemed like they were surrounding something or someone. He continued walking along the small path he was following; there were many flowers of all kinds, but not the one he was looking for.

“HA HA HA HA, of course, little birds, I'm going to be a future star!”

Rui was very scared when he heard the loud voice coming from a small bush. Intrigue consumed him, and in an unconscious step he looked out to see what was happening. There was a small hidden meadow, with medium-long grass completely covered by trees that did not allow him to see the sky, a lake just a little further from the place, and bingo! the flower that the boy was looking for. But he didn't realize something; there was someone else there. When he looked down a little, he met the sweetest look he had ever known in his entire life—the look of a fairy who was sitting resting on a stone with a couple of little birds on his hand and some bunnies at his side. The wizard didn't know what to do; he was embarrassed, but he didn't know exactly why. "Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't know you were here."
The blonde boy looked at him. “Hey, it's okay, don't worry.” There was a big smile on his face. But something wasn't right with Rui; no creature had treated him so well in so long. The blonde fairy didn't seem to be afraid of him and hadn't run away like he expected. “Hey!” The magician returned to reality. “I'm sorry again; I was just coming to look for something, but I think I'm leaving.” The boy ran towards his castle as fast as he could. "I don't even know what I'm doing," he thought. "Poor fairy, I must have scared him, and now I'm the one running  away." The fairy, for his part, had been equally surprised because he had never seen a wizard be so cordial and careful with the creatures of the forest.

Rui spent the next few days inside his castle; he didn't know why he couldn't stop thinking about the fairy he had seen the other day in the forest. "He was cute," the boy fondly remembered his sweet t look. "Wait a minute, what am I thinking?” "I have to concentrate." But the next few days were nothing more than thinking about the fairy that he had found in the forest until he got fed up and decided to go in search of the fairy to talk with him so maybe he could get all those thoughts out of his head. When he left his home, it was quite early. He headed towards the place where they had met the last time, and again the creatures observed him. Rui didn't really know what he was doing; he only knew that he needed to meet the fairy again and finally talk to him for once. There was no one there when he arrived, so he decided to sit for a while on the same stone where the fairy had sat at that time. He watched the scenery, and it was really nice. The wizard sat there for a while doing nothing and occasionally writing notes of things he had to do when he returned to the castle in his somewhat old notebook. The boy began to get tired of waiting until he decided that he would take a short nap. It wouldn't be bad at all, so he moved to the side of the rock and lay on his side on it.

When Rui slowly opened his eyes, he felt the rays of the sunset hitting his face and a strange warmth that didn't come from his body or the rock he had fallen asleep hugging, which in fact he was no longer hugging but something else. He raised his eyes a little, and there was the fairy he had thought so much about these days. He looked at him for a long time. "Cute" was the only thing he could think about. "Oh, hello! You're already waking up; I'm sorry I saw you there, and I thought that sleeping on a rock wasn't the most comfortable thing in the world." Realizing that he was still hugging the boy's arm, Rui quickly let go. "Please don't apologize; I'm the one who should apologize." Rui looked down. "I'm sorry for running away that afternoon; that was very rude." The blond boy looked at him with affection in his eyes. "So that's what you mean; I understand; don't worry!" “Could I ask your name? I’m Tenma Tsukasa, the next world’s future star!” Tsukasa was grimacing as he put a hand on his chest. “Nice to meet you, world's future star; my name is Kamishiro Rui.” Both boys looked at each other dumbly. “So Rui, you are a wizard, right?” The taller one replied. “Yes, and I can deduce that you are a fairy, right?” Rui could feel the boy’s wings fluttering calmly. “Right on target!” Tsukasa said, winking at him. Since then, the boys have formed a bond that seems indestructible.

And so it was; Tsukasa and Rui spent time together, going here and there.

The wizard knew he liked the fairy, but he never thought the fairy could ever love him, not the way he wanted. Rui never got tired of admiring how beautiful he was. They had become much closer now; there were times when Tsukasa would spend a few days at Rui's castle or Rui would go to the forest to chat with him in the afternoon. They were both stupid enough not to realize they both had feelings for each other. But there was one night that cleared his thoughts. It was that time he invited the blonde to his castle; both boys were sitting next to each other in Rui’s bedroom. Tsukasa noticed that Rui seemed down. "Rui? What's wrong?" The boy looked at the shorter one and said, "Nothing, my dear g, my dear star." Tsukasa was not convinced by that answer. "What do you mean nothing? I can see the sadness in your eyes." "Oh, I think you know how to read people very well." Now Rui smiled, “Okay, I’ll tell you, I think it’s important for you to know.” The fairy moved a little closer to the wizard and placed one of his hands on the other hand. “Don’t feel obliged to tell me if you don’t want to." The other quickly replied, “I’m sure I want to tell you.”

Rui began to speak, "You see, I wasn't the type that had many friends, and here in the forest the creatures spread rumors very easily. That's why everyone started to get away from me. I was alone for a long time wandering around here in the forest with nothing else to do without anyone to be with. The only person that accompanied me sometimes was the moon, but she already owed her heart to someone one else." It was true that Rui just wanted to feel loved and have company in his castle. The blond boy looked at him surprised. "That was until I met you, Tsukasa. You're the only one in the entire forest that treated me like a person with feelings. I really don't know what I would do without you. You're very important to me." He felt the boy give him a hug. "I didn't know about all that." The fairy gently let go of him and put a hand on his cheek. "I swear I will never leave you. I love you, ve you, Rui." A couple of tears escaped the taller one: "I love you too,  Tsukasa." It felt so good and so relieved to say those words that he had held back so much throughout these days. Both boys were now even closer; the blonde still had his hand there, and Rui now put his on his cheek. They looked at each other for what seemed like an eternity, and finally their lips met in a sweet kiss.
From that very moment, the fairy and the wizard wanted to be the two of them alone in the forest, loving each other forever and everywhere.

But they had not noticed something; there was someone who had been watching and stalking them from afar, someone who had a grudge against all the creatures of the forest, someone with enough evil in his blood to want to destroy any bond that dares to be happy. He was the curse of the enchanted forest; he was "the evil that always existed," and he could not stand to see so much happiness between two beings, so he decided to come up with a cruel plan for the pair of lovers. And so it was that on his steed he went out in search of the fairy and the wizard to give them a punishment. "Evil" was an envious creature that could never feel loved and ended up as it is today. Rui still remembers the afternoon when "Evil" took his fairy away. It was a cold autumn afternoon. The two of them were in the same place where they had met, but now they were both watching the lake. In the distance, they could hear a horse approaching at a rapid speed. When the magician realized who it was riding, he froze. It was impossible not to recognize him. Legend said that "Evil" attacked when two people truly loved each other and he would come with his steed dressed entirely in black. The legend turned out to be true, and in the blink of an eye he attacked with his hatred. He passed by Tsukasa and pushed him until the fairy fell. It seemed that he hadn't done anything to him until Rui realized that the blond wasn't moving.

The following days were fatal for the wizard; guilt and remorse consumed him. In his castle, he spent night after night looking for the power that would return his fairy. Tsukasa had not woken up yet; he just wanted to see him again; he wanted his love back, his sweet look that was now in the past. Rui had not stopped since then, and full of frustration, he looked for a way to recover the boy, who that day in the middle of the forest he had finally been able to love. His star was resting in the workshop on a bed that Rui had gotten from the guest room. The days passed without any answer. The wizard could do nothing but think and look with disappointment at his boyfriend, thinking about all the beautiful moments they had spent that time in the forest. Rui thought about all the things that Tsukasa had taught him for the first time, both how to make flower crowns and how it feels to be loved innocently for the first time. And today Rui knows what love is thanks to him, and he knows that he will have the strength to endure that spell that had been cast on his beloved.

He knows that one day he will see his sweet fairy rise, and he will stay with him forever.
